  1. I've been searching online for any official rule that states it but can only find that "The ball is dead when any part of the ball carrier's body touches the ground other than his foot or hand, by contact or otherwise." It doesn't state if he rolls over another player. However if he was laying on top of someone and his advancement was stopped then it is a dead ball. I would THINK that if it was a case where he was tackled and rolled over, still advancing the ball and nothing other than his feet or hand (without the ball) hit the ground it is still live. 99-100 times though their calling it dead as advancement has stopped....especially if a QB is carrying the ball as they always try and protect him.
  2. Does the name Antonio Cromartie come to mind? Point taken....but what did he do in his first 2 years at FSU. Sorry, not that up to date on FSU corners. I'm assuming he was a little more of a stud/shutdown guy than Bowman who has JUCO ball and a partial year of 1-A on his resume.
  3. Sorry. Not a chance in he!! of this rumor (and that's what it is since we're all chatting about it) coming true. He played on and off...coming into his own the second half of the season. Then the injury this year. No NFL team in their right mind would even consider wasting a pick on him.
  4. Gotta be OU.... 1) The storied tradition. (For whoever said they are only old enough to recognize KSU as a rival....I feel sorry for you. I'd even consider Colorado a bigger rival than KSU. KSU strung together a couple of wins and good teams....no means a 'rival') 2) We've already proven that we can hang with Texas...a good game that came down to an unfortunate turnover. But that's football. I don't think we have to 'prove' anything. 3) Let's see. Texas beat up on OU. We hung with Texas. We beat OU in Championship...isn't that KINDA like beating both of them? (Plus we beat KSU who beat Texas). 4) If there's a chance (which I haven't heard) of McCoy being out, I don't want to play them because 'it will be easier'. If that's your opinion, you probably like beating your kid (or kid brother) on NCAA Football or Xbox or Playstation. That being said, who knows what Peterson's status is...and give Snead a couple weeks to prepare and I think he'll be a very servicable QB for them. PS - Be rooting for Michigan this weekend. I personally have kinda liked their swagger this year. But the main reason is if they win/make it to the Nat. Championship we will have played all of these within less than a year: -Texas (defending National Champs that we coulda/shoulda/woulda beat) -USC (2-time defending Nat. Champs until the afore-mentioned Longhorns knocked them off) -Michigan (who we defeated in Alamo bowl last year - though not quite the same team....and could possibly end up playing USC this year who I already mentioned!!!) Pretty nice resume for a team that's 'rebuilding'!?!?!
  5. I think it is successful. We've won 8 hopefully 9 games. In the games we lost we were competitive (or were at least not embarassed as in past few years). As I said on another post...one of our greatest streaks recognized nationally was 9-win seasons. Not 8, 10 or 11. We should at least get that accomplished with 3 games remaining.
  6. Loved this poster as a kid...probably had it up from 3rd to 6th grade!
  7. Last I heard he hadn't worked out at all. Mack Brown wasn't reporting any more than that (imagine that) on any tests or updates that had occurred. Beginning of the season he was saying that McCoy and Snead were going to split snaps...or at least both get valuable experience. Bet he wishes he would have done that now.
  8. I'm not going to get fully into this because yes, what if's are ridiculous. "If Mo hadn't made the catch in either game...there would have been another play"....And? C'mon. You are now arguing What If's with hypotheticals. I'm the devil's advocate on here. I'm the realist. Too many fans think they got screwed or the ball took a bad bounce or whatever that leads to less than a perfect season. I just plead for fans to take a look back and look at the good bounces and things that go NU's way time and again to get a win. That was my point.
  9. Incognito was a 3rd round draft pick and starts at center for the Rams... L.P. was a 1st round draft pick and turned a bunch of teenagers into speedbumps with his car...if you are going to use that as a counterpoint.
  10. This is an acceptable level for me. 9-3 (hopefully after Colorado). Wasn't one of the major streaks that came to an end that was well documented by Nebraskans, and nationally by ESPN and the others was our streak of NINE WIN SEASONS? It wasn't a streak of 10 or 11 win seasons that was noted....but 9. I like the parody of college football. I like having to COMPETE. I like an earned win and not a cakewalk. Keep in mind while you mention the "What If's" of a 1-loss season....you should equally balance the "What If's" of more lossses than that. -OT vs Kansas -Missouri doesn't turn the ball over on a strong drive to begin the 2nd half that lead to an NU score (I mention this as a comparison of your USC argument where the score wasn't close, but Missouri started racking up yards and had some dumb mistakes) -A blocked FG, late hit and jump ball to win against A&M We're also a few "What If's" from 6-6. Just the facts.
  11. I personally don't. He has only shown flashes of being really good. But injuries some weight issues, and the rumors of an attitude issue now and then probably will cause teams to look elsewhere. His best chance is to probably have a solid season next year, keep in shape and keep working and get prepared for free-agent signing.
  12. I think that used to be a huge advantage for NU in the 90's. Our guys were simply bigger than the other guys up front. However, now a lot of schools have that size guys as well. You mean Carriker isn't the ONLY 6'6" 290lb. D-lineman?!?!?
  13. Just a suggestion....try option 'B' with an all red N instead of grey with a red outline.
  14. You want a guy to play with ferociousness and intensity, but also within his position. If a guy just plays thinking he can make every play and with wreckless abandon it's not best for the team. Sure...you may light up a RB in the backfield right when he gets the ball and draw "OOOOoohhhhsss" from the crowd, but do it again and it's a play fake that is going right over your head. Please reference LaVar Arrington for this case in point. He makes a highlight play once a game (when he isn't hurt) but misses 3-4 where he has put himself out of position by trying to make the BIG play. Just my opinion. That being said....go knock someone's helmet off Steve-O!
  15. He's good no doubt. But as many times, when we as NU fans see flashes of greatness we are very quick to crown someone as the next big thing. Admit it...you've done it before. Bobby Newcombe, Thunder Collins, etc. Plus it is easy to be excited by a guy like Mo (and believe me...I'm into the hype as well) when we haven't had a 'prototype' receiver for years. We've had TE's and WB's that were posession receivers. Let's see how he does over a full season (yes I hope he goes for 1000+ and 10+) with defenses making him a top priority before we give him a 1st round selection. As far as comparing the two it's kinda hard. Totally different offenses. Totally different receivers. I was in 2nd/3rd grade when Irving was playing, but he wasn't a 'throw it up and go get it' type receiver from what I remember. The 'prototype' WR has changed over the past few years, especially what the NFL is looking for. Guys like Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Mushin Muhammad have changed the position. Owners and coaches search for that 6'5", 225lb WR that can go get it (and would have been a TE in earlier years). For that reason, yes, if Mo can get decent numbers next year...he'll definitely get major attention. You can't coach size and a 40" vert, though his hands could use a little work. But who cares WHEN he gets taken, as long as he gets taken. Example? Marcus Colston for New Orleans. Big...fast...great hands....but went to Hofstra. He got drafted in the 7th round - 250+ pick. Went from working for the roster, to 3rd wide out, to starter. He virtually has Rookie of the year locked up, and is near the top of the league in receptions, yards and TD's....even against those 1st round 'guarantees'. Should be fun to watch Purify grow. Hopefully he can live up to what the hype and pressure that we're all building around him.
  16. I hope he can really live up to what we all expected. "We'll see what I can do. Plus, I've got another year." Hey Steve.....just make sure you stay away from Golden Corral next year!!!
  17. The look on the A&M fans faces after the TD and PAT is horriffic. I'm glad we won, but as an NU fan who has been through it (Jamaal Lord leads the team down on "THE DRIVE" against Texas to score - he throws a pick) ya almost kinda feel for them. Like somebody shot their dog...that they had since they were 3...and saved their mother's life...while they were petting it.
  18. I think there's been plenty. Yes, Frazier. Didn't LP get some major carries/yards his first year? Crouch...sorry, have to say, they tried to get the ball in his hands anyway they could. Even if he didn't get it D-Coords were concerned even if he ended up being the decoy on a fake end-around. And don't forget Congdon. After missing his first PAT ever at Nebraska, he was automatic for the rest of his freshman year....and he was deadly from 29 on field goals.
  19. I completely agree. Please don't think I was downing the spreading of the wealth, it works to our advantage. Was just addressing the fact that we don't have a 'standout' TE for the first time in years. But combined they aren't too shabby.
  20. Yeah...go ahead and transfer. Worked good for Curt Dukes and the wrestler that started at QB that one game a couple years ago. They are great guys.....but so was Ghandi....and that's what they are.

    #13 = #1?

I think you're considering the 'what could have been' for Berringer. WHAT IF he had been a 2-3 year starter? WHAT IF he was given a chance/made it to the pros. Based off of what he actually did you can't put Berringer up that high. Believe me...I think he probably could have been a solid backup, maybe given a chance to start in the NFL, but as far as Husker legacy, he is more remembered for being a great person, filling in for a few games, and his tragic death. Again, I agree with everything that he was....but wouldn't have him in my top 10.
  22. Bones as in plural? You have more than one? FREAK SHOW!!!!
  23. 1) OLA DONGAJDURJGRA-DAAAYYUUMMM!!! If the A&M guy would have kept his feet Ola would've driven him right into the kicker and blocked it with his back! 2) Boy...did A&M fall asleep on Peterson on the 4th & 3 or what? Great job of finding a spot to settle down in and Taylor finding him. Would have been tricky if he had decided to run it (if he would have got there, he would've gotten the wood laid on him). 3) Roughing the passer call.....I've seen worse. Probably a good call, but I've seen many of those hits not get called. Got one our way. 4) Purify pushing off....You don't get a good view/replay of his entire route. No when the ball goes up the guy isn't anywhere near, but did Purify give him a little nudge well before? Still sweet. (Yes - Menelik Holt is all of 6'5" it appears! And Congdon is all of 5'1" it appeared after he was swarmed on the point after!)
  24. I see it now....the next great conversion of an offensive player to a defensive player. Tierre Green, Leon Jackson (who is gone)....next: "At starting safety, standing 6'5 and weighing 180 lbs in pads....Beau Davis!"
