  1. No need to get too worked up. Just a bit of trash talking and poking fun at an opponent. It's not something we seem to be above doing, either
  2. Speaking to our team's needs this year, I'll take one of the '95 O-lineman and Mike Brown at corner. (He played corner, right? I forget)
  3. But how did TO turn out? I think this is a pretty dismal reflection of today's expectations and perhaps the nature of today's game. If no coach would survive 7 straight bowl losses, than even a great like TO wouldn't make it today - could it hurt to give someone a chance?
  4. yep, sorry about that - it's for PC and it's the best I can do without a real console.
  5. Food for thought: 2 scenarios, pick one. 1) We wind up in a BCS bowl (say, Fiesta), bite off a bit more than we can chew and head into the offseason with a disappointing loss. 2) We go Cotton bowling again - which you'd have to say is a mild disappointment - but it's a good matchup (I don't know, how about Alabama?) and we pull off a nice upset to carry the momentum. Which one would be better - small but sure steps in the right direction, or jumping to BCS, falling, and maybe teetering a road of inconsistency the next year? I don't know.
  6. The Missouri fans don't seem wild on jumping ship to the Big Televen (nice name ) so if they did go after them, I'm not sure Missouri would necessarily agree. I think ISU is another logical candidate for them to go after. I'm sorry the Big 12 championship left a bad impression on us: in what way? Hopefully you'll get a better experience on this board. We do have at least one other sooner fan here. Here's hoping the NU-OU rivalry gets restored. It would be terrific.
  7. Here's another (crazy) thought: what about 3-3-5? :-P Bring back Culbert to the D, and we have Steinkuhler-Suh-Potter with a lot of depth behind them (Potter, Allen, Sievers at end, Jensen, Barfield, Johnson, Dixon at DT to name a few guys who might factor in)...then for LBs, we've got our Ruud-McKeon-Octavien with a fair amount of depth as well, and we introduce a third safety. With all the safeties we have, would that be bad? Thenarse, Asante, and Culbert are just the younger guys, we still have Wilson and Green. Plus we'd get to use our personnel creatively, as Asante is a fierce hitter and there was mention of Culbert possibly being able to play linebacker; one of our safeties could play a flexible pseudo-LB type role. Anyway, just hypothesizing.
  8. Gosh. That's not usually a selling point, is it? But man, this is exciting, great, great, news.
  9. Do you think we can drop two Big XII games and still win the North? That's what happened last year, right? And we could have dropped 3. To win the North, we need to beat make sure we beat all the other North teams; if we do, I think going 6-2 in conference is acceptable, or even 6-3 as long as we hold all the tiebreakers. But I expect no worse than a 6-2 conference record; it's what we had last year and very close to a 7-1 as well.
  10. Well, in a 3-4 it would be Turner, Suh, Steinkuhler? Does Steinkuhler as a DT make more sense and have one of Potter/Allen duke it out for the other end spot? I like our starting LBs, but how much depth do we have there? Ruud, McKeon, and Octavien are good, and we'll add Dillard in a 3-4 I'm sure. But what about the guys coming in behind them? We've got Brandenburgh and Lawrence, the only two I know of...I'm sure there are others, but I don't feel like we have the kind of linebacker depth needed to pull off a 3-4.
  11. In my mind, it won't be necessarily winning the "big" games - you have to admit they're pretty big games for us - but more not dropping small games. No more meltdowns a la OK State and Kansas. Those were embarrassing. The regular season should be a 2 loss season, and if we lose to anyone aside from USC and UT it'll be disappointing. Disappointing, but acceptable unless it's a blowout loss. I'll call a 3 loss season with now blowout losses, but I'm hoping for better. If we're really stepping up, we won't lose to the likes of Wake or Mizzou. With regard to "reloading", we do keep the nucleus of our team and we're basically reloading at Quarterback, and arguably at least half the D-line. Turner and Suh are monsters; Potter showed promise earlier in his career and you have to think one with Potter, Steinkuhler, Allen and incoming guys at DT we should not fair too badly, as long as Turner and Suh live up to their expectations. It'd be surprising from them not to. RB is another concern, but we do have a 5* there, if that can be termed "reloading".
  12. I think we'll split the four games. We'll lose to either Mizzou/aTm and we'll lose one of the USC/UT games No. Losing the CCG is all it takes...add another loss or two in season, which is far from out of the question. I say we'll be pretty lucky to get off with two wins out of those four. I think the odds are against us on USC and Texas, and if we don't drop some random conference game which we shouldn't have, then we'll be taking a step forward in terms of season consistency. Too much we've had some nice starts only to drag through midseason. I'll gladly excuse USC and UT. Any other losses are going to be harder to accept now.
  13. I wouldn't mind a Gator Bowl. Last year was the first in many in which we've gone to a January bowl game. Keeping that up means we had a good season but finished 2nd in the Big 12. It's acceptable; although I'd rather not lose the CCG winning the bowl game is more important. If we beat USC though, yeah, the Gator Bowl will be a little disappointing. I like where they have ND projected
  14. From a technical standpoint, this sounds like something that you're going to have to update manually every single home game. That doesn't sound very practical...I mean, this sort of thing won't just count itself. Unless there's some RSS feed or XML file out there that already has the number for us, then you can probably pull that number (I don't know how, since I've never worked with rss/xml before)....I mean otherwise, yeah, it's cool, but is it really that practical to have to go into the invision control panel and manually edit the number after every single home game?
  15. ....who's got his guys beat by a mile. Okay, two yards. Same thing. Enjoy...plenty more where those came from. Hopefully the bandwith on the host doesn't expire soon, but they're all JPEGs (5.6MB total or so, 150MB daily download limit) so it *should* be okay.
  16. Murillo and Thenarse go up to break up a would-be long bomb from JDB. Lucky attacking the open field. He looks like a hungry wolf in this one. No, the faces don't change in Madden but heck, this was an interesting angle. Keller gathers his troops. Random trivia: Vince Young used to fart in the huddle to lighten the mood... Thomas Lawson breaks one to the secondary. I have him and Senske on the roster at FB; JB Phillips is pencilled in at #2 TE. Fair or not, I don't want Phillips as my FB! And Keller lines them up to take a knee. 31-24, '07 Huskers (modded) vs '06 Trojan roster...yeah, yeah, it means nothing. Hey, but I survived the Madden late-game CPU cheating spree. Prince Amukamura takes the opening kickoff against Texas. The Prince breaks this one to just about midfield. With a little help from some "enhanced" acceleration But hey, I don't know his game speed. One must make educated guesses sometimes Peterson in traffic and near the goal line. Unfortunately, the next pass gets picked. Not a good day for Keller (or the Huskers...but a fine day for screenshots, anyway). Octavien blows past the 'Horns pass defense and nails Colt McCoy. That's Culbert bringing down the Texas receiver with Dillard in the foreground, doing his best impression of a Great Leaping Toad. Grixby - such a fierce competitor, full of heart and able to provide senior leadership for this team. Argh! Somehow I resisted the urge to "mod" his height up. Purify climbs the proverbial ladder of greatness. Bowman drops a sure interception there, but at least keeps it away from Sweed and an open forty yards to the endzone. Mendoza, who also had a TD run in the USC game, takes the hand off from Keller and brings it home. Here's DJ Jones on the critical block (according to Madden). Even though the Huskers are getting pummeled, Ruud lays the wood on McCoy and makes sure he's not enjoying his day. Again the Huskers pash rush prevails as Andre Jones and Ty Steinkuhler bring down McCoy while he's sitting ten yards deep. I'm sure he doesn't mind, because it's 42-17 by the time I give up on this game. Already up two scores, Keller goes long for Purify...
  17. So, not really into the NFL quite as much as I am into these glorious Cornhuskers of ours, I decided to have some fun with Madden 07...found some nice resources at football-freaks, including a custom roster full of college teams, including their helmets (and approximate) colors. Some of the colors/uniforms were wrong, so I went and fixed the Husker uniforms as well as modifying some of the off colors on other teams like UT. Also, it was last year's roster so I modified it to this year's, with some generous guessing on the player stats :-P Also patched it up with some (very rough) Husker stadium artwork and such; didn't bother to change much for the other teams though. So here are the results; I'm quite pleased, I think it looks pretty fantastic. Now I just need to find some creampuff NCAA rosters to beat up on 'rookie' level =) Dailey sitting on the turf after being sacked by McKeon. Yeah, I know he's not a QB anymore, but that's the way he was on the Tarheel roster. Ganz tosses it out to Lucky #5. A USC defender launches into this UNHUMAN leap towards Keller. No worries, Keller sidesteps it handily. Bowman breaks up a pass...no, he doesn't catch it. The Huskers in action from midfield. Can't figure out how to change the fan colors, it's a pity the stadium isn't a redout. Of course you can edit that in, but it's much too bothersome. Keller steps up in the pocket. Swift snags one in the clutch. Adi Kunalic kicks a field goal...guessed a number for him, I think #1 fits nicely with his name. Armando Murillo steps up and blocks a crucial Trojan field goal that would have put them up by 17. Andre Jones stops the Trojan return man with Asante ready to assist. Niles Paul returns a punt. Keller throws over a defender for Glenn. Steinkuhler (he looks undersized, I've got to fix that) drags down Booty for a sack. Husker attack in action. A kickoff following the tying score. 17-17! Same play, Bryan Wilson nails the ball carrier and forces the fumble! Blake Lawrence (also looks undersized, can't tell him from Ganz, haha) is there to scoop up the live ball. Glenn is just a machine. Yeah, maybe I modded him a little extra, but he just ran through tackles like it was nothing all day. And I mean he *really* ran through tacklers. I moved Culbert back to defense and put him in at SS to split with Asante.
  18. Looks like we weren't in the running for him in the end, and you know it's kind of low to be happy that a kid of his caliber didn't commit here, but...hey, if that means Gray will come to Nebraska, it's a great deal! Good luck at Michigan Sam!
  19. Agreed, great impression of OSU fans from that board.
  20. Hey guys, if that link isn't working for you, try this: -download the actual flash video (.flv) file from youtube; try entering the URL at www.saveyoutube.com -use a nifty program called SUPER (google 'super') to convert that file into audio (say, .mp3 or .wav) It'll be low quality of course, but that's because it came from a flash video file to begin with. Limewire is P2P and yes it's illegal.
  21. Georgia Tech, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, USC...that's not a light schedule there. Like it or not, ND has a brutal road to the championship every year because of the high caliber teams they play.
  22. Their schedule is tough enough.
  23. Trading Iowa St. for CSU is the last thing this North division needs...hm...
  24. Hope he chooses Michigan.
