  1. 1) XD 2) True, Beck was something like 1/6 for 21 yards with an int, but he presided over our game-winning drive and delivered what I'd consider to be a clutch pass for a young guy hurled into so much pressure. I don't want to see Davis quarterbacking again, but Ganz is kind of an unknown right now. 3) We'll have Ganz, Witt. Depending on how Ganz progresses, we may not need or even want a juco.
  2. Let's not hate too much on Freeman, though. He made the choice that he felt was right for him, given all the variables at the time. Who coulda foreseen this? He may be kicking himself, but it's not his fault. I know he switched from Nebraska, but as a recent high school student, well...we're very indecisive. Flip-floppers, if you will.
  3. Don't forget Sam Koch is also on that Ravens team!
  4. Of course, you are not allowed an opinion that is wrong I don't think anyone will wish for Beck back. Should the unthinkable happen, and ZT go down - well, we all hope we'll have someone good to step in. Could be Joe Ganz, who knows at this point? But we lost Beck long before he was released from his scholarship. The minute he decided to skip practice, that he was above the team, that was when he ceased to possess any quarterbacking skills whatsoever. I'm sure we all wish Beck didn't turn out this way, with this kind of attitude, especially the good signs coming from him all the way up to this. But he did, and since he did, you couldn't pay me to wish for him to ever take the reins of our offense.
  5. It would be intruiging if Beck goes over to OU. But I can't really imagine Bob Stoops saying, "Folks, The TEAM is more important than the INDIVIDUAL. We are STRONGER as a program because this TERRIBLE SCANDAL came out. That said, I am pretty desparate and we need a quarterback. Welcome, Harrison Beck, and Harrison Beck's mother. He will start right away, of course, because Thompson is just mediocre." I mean, as cool as it would be to lay the smackdown on Beck in the Big XII CCG, and as much as I don't like OU football, I give Bob Stoops more credit than that.
  6. Well, it's frustrating. We were going along fine, with no problems, laughing at the Sooners, and then we lose Bowman and Beck goes over to the Dark Side. But you're right, we aren't doomed. It's just frustrating that this had to happen. But Isiah Fluellen plays CB? I didn't know that...
  7. Just to confirm: Ganz *is* a redshirt sophomore, right? I saw one article describing him as a junior... Probably because Beck was seen as the future of this program. Things have changed.
  8. Even though I think what his mother said doomed him, you can't blame his mother for saying that. Bottom line, it's his own fault. He's the one who left practice.
  9. Agreed, I just have a good impression of Ganz. And Davis, well. Wasn't his TTech performance something along the lines of "int, int, inc, int, inc, int"? The only "average" guys are the poor suckers who aren't on our team
  10. Will Coach Cally wear red? Clearly. He will be eminating red like the devil himself, and those of the LA Tech sideline will be terrified at the glowing red flames which surround him. As they very well should be. First Husker scoring connection? How long? Kenny Wilson will take the ball from the 20 and tear through the entire sorry defense of theirs. Which would be, 80 yards. Will we sell out the athletic venue to max capacity? No doubt. Result of Tech's first offensive drive? Tech will not, at any point in this game, have anything that can even remotely qualify as an "offensive drive." Could the rumors be true about Lil Reds battle with bulimia?? Haven't seen him lately. Perhaps he should see a counselor, or maybe he is jealous of Husker Herbie. Players of the game? Well, they'll have a heck of a time deciding between the 22 Nebraska starters, that's for sure.
  11. Hunter94, I don't think so. I think the highest rated high school quarterbacks are too prideful to let a challenge deter them. They'd be too prideful to say, "This is too hard, I want something watered down for me." And besides, as a fan, I don't want any "watered down" West Coast, like they're running at, say, UNC. But this whole thing with Beck shows that he's just stupid. What did he have to complain about? He was practically cemented as the future of this program. Does he think there's a difference between a 2-year starter and a 4-year starter in terms of future success? Ask Matt Cassel, second-stringer QB on the Patriots, who never started a single game for USC. Still, all the better. Beck will not be a good QB, I think we can all agree. Truth.
  12. First and second sentences don't agree. That wouldn't be easy for anyone to say. "Sorry guys, I'm a total ass. I bailed on you, but welcome me back with open arms, right? I'm all better now. Sorry Zac. I don't really think you suck. That was all just my mom, you know. You believe me, right? Yeah. Go big red, or something." Even if he did say all that, that he didn't agree with his mother, I just wouldn't think it's true. Walking out of practice reflects very badly on him, regardless of what his mother said. The fact that his mother blasted the pride of Husker Nation just sealed the lid on the coffin.
  13. Pshhhh. If Beck's gone, it's no big loss. He's not worthy of being a Husker anyway. Who cares what Beck's mom thinks? Since when did Beck's mom become the ultimate authority on football? Joe Ganz! I'll be excited to see him play against the Trojans...because you know, I think BC will be nice to SoCal guys once the score hits 42-0 midway through quarter two...
  14. I think the #4 placement was a result of his just coming off injury. Other QBs had more time to develop, he'll obviously have catchup work. Of course, when Joe Dailey wound up #4 on the depth chart, he upped and left for North Carolina. But that's a little different: he was recruited for a different system. That Beck is a 10% passer is true, but consider. He was thrown, nay, hurled into the fire against KSU in a dire situation. He completed a clutch 20-yd pass to Nate Swift when we needed it. All good signs. And he played minimal garbage time against CU, but it was both minimal and garbage time - we haven't seen enough of him to downrate his performance in any way. As for next year's QB, how about Joey Ganz? I don't think so; can you point to any specific examples? Even if you can, I don't think it's a good idea. When a kid is frustrated, you have to deal with it in the context of the situation. Not by beating them over the head and exacerbating their problems.
  15. Hard to say without knowing what's going through Beck's mind. I think a short suspension is in order no matter what, though. No matter how many stars you have on Rivals.com coming out of high school, you don't just skip a practice on a whim and not face any sort of consequence. I think that message needs to be sent clearly, because, to sorta quote Bob Stoops in a different situation, it's for the better of the team. But of course on the poll I chose public humiliation Great idea! Though, seriously speaking, I think AR Husker Fan has hit the nail on the head.
  16. ^ Truth. And thank god we are not Oklahoma.
  17. *shudder* Let's not talk about the Bowman thing right now.
  18. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Since '96, I believe. 2) What/who led you to The Nation? Used to live in the area. 3) Where are you from originally? NE 4) Where do you live now? New England. Patriots land. 5) Favorite Husker memory? 2001, OU. Mike Stuntz to Eric Crouch is the one that stands out. 6) Worst Husker memory? 2001, CU. Just, in general. It was the beginning of the Dark Ages. 7) Number of home games attended? 0. 8) Number of away games attended? 0. 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? Don't really have any : \ 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Don't get many Husker games here. Usually listen to Jim Rose's play-by-play along with Yahoo! sports coverage. 11) Favorite all time player? In recent memory, Cory Ross and Zac Taylor come to mind. They have spirit 12) WCO or Option? Option, no question. But WCO, now that we've got it running, is fun to watch. Being able to pass is great. 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? Don't know anything about Byrne, but I'm critical of Pederson's firing of Solich, thought it was premature. Then again, he hired Callahan. 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Not sure. 15) Favorite Husker play? The good old triple option 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Nothing in particular. 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) Google

    BCS

No playoffs. Bowls are cool, and IMHO a great system. With playoffs, every team but one comes out with a loss to end their season. Not really healthy, in my opinion. But SI's Stewart Mandel suggested having a NC game in addition to the bowls; maybe a championship pitting the best two of the BCS bowl winners, or a 4-team mini-tourney. Not too plausible, but better options, I think, than a full-blown playoffs system.
  20. No no. Cookies are stored client-side on your computer. The poll results are stored on the server. Unless you remotely hack into the server, deleting cookies isn't going to do anything. My bet is they do it by IP address: one-vote-per-IP. In other words, if you're on dialup, and you sign off and sign on again...chances are, you'll get another vote. Broadband users are not so lucky here. But surely we have better things to do than listen to a modem dialing online over and over and over?
  21. Well, I hope to god he's not feeling how his mother says he's feeling. I think she may have offended a good deal of Husker nation with those comments - which were understandable, coming from a mother, but shallow nevertheless. "Wrong choice by going to Nebraska, should've stayed in the SEC"? Not something you want to hear out of any player's mother. "Zac is <strong>'OK'</strong>?" Let's get something straight here, Mrs. Beck-Bothwell. Zac Taylor is our savior. Zac Taylor is this team's inspiration. We thank our lucky stars for him and pray for his safety every night. The only way Beck starts a single game this season is if Zac goes down - which is a situation I personally fear more than the apocalypse. Beck looked like a great guy: good talent and sacrificed his redshirt to deliver us the KSU victory. I thought that showed a lot of good character, but this latest development seems to indicate the opposite. Being a highly touted recruit doesn't mean the coaches owe you anything - after just coming off that shoulder injury, I don't think you can just waltz into training camp and right away shoot up the charts. If Beck is trying to pull another Crouch, he should expect no sympathy from Husker nation, and nor should he expect any good to come out of it. I don't think Callahan is going to track him down and beg him to come back like Solich did. As far as Ganz goes, I like Ganz. He's a bit of a more mobile QB I believe, hearkening ever so slightly to the glory days of yore, and I've just been getting good impressions. While I always assumed Beck was going to lead this program after The Savior moves on, if that's honestly his attitude I wouldn't be sorry at all to say good-bye to Beck and welcome the Joey Ganz era. Besides, Ganz is a cooler name to hear announcers call out, IMO. :-P Apparently his frustration is being listed at #4. Which I don't completely understand, Beck listed at #4 - but disappearing from camp is sending me chilling vibes and the ghostly echo of "Eric Crouch". I seriously hope this isn't what it looks like, and that he pulls himself together. Because you know, I trust the NU coaching staff and their judgment on their players more than the players themselves, and their mothers. Sure he's important, but the minute he decides his interests and those of the team's conflict, that's bad news for his future. At any school, at any level. *Ahem* Excuse me for my rant. I'll breathe now.
