  1. I love the references to "nothing else to do on Saturday". Kinda funny when you consider one of our fan strong holds is Southern California. Must be those Nebraska transplants can't find much else to do there on Saturday either.............or we simply have a loyal fan base that believe in a long lived program.
  2. There are a couple of things that TO and BC and FS are comparable on. All 3 were as stubborn as the day is long. TO and BC know what their teams are capable of. TO stuck to his game plans because that is what the team did best. I must admit that it is possible that is what BC may have been doing in the USC game. With all the speed of the USC D, I'm not sure we have the reciever talent to really get the guys open. Keep in mind that in the first game Zack was picked off once. In the long completion to Herian the ball was way late and the D was out of position but look how fast they recovered.
  3. Personally I kept waiting for the 2 minute offense. Never saw it. I must say It didn't appear that SC ever found the rythm with their offense either. Whether that was due to our D or the 2 weeks off we'll never know but they didn't look sharp at all. Their front 7 did a great job as well. SC is a good team and this was a good measuring stick for us. What did we learn from the game. Here's my take. BC may be one of those coaches that gets super conservative (outside of one fake punt) the bigger the game is. Unless BC assumed that everyone in the nation expected and arial show and wanted to keep them off balance. The O-line is very good but they will not dominate against a great D line. That's only a 100% improvement over last year. Our D- front seven are pretty darn solid. They may not have the big names of an SC but they appear to be well coached (I had to admit this) and are pretty hard nose ball players. Our backs are the real deal. You cold see flashes but a pretty solid D kept them in check. BC does not have confidence in the passing game. I thought for sure we'd see the tight ends heavily involved but it never happened. The "good game plan but did not execute" is a bad sign. Spoken like a NFL coach and not a college coach. BC may be another Mack Brown. In the title game last year it was USC's game to win until Vince Young took it upon himself. My conclusion on the game. The 06 Huskers are light years ahead of last years team. Very impressed over all that they could hang with SC. Just think of the difference if they would have not fumbled the ball and picked off one of the two passes that hit our D-backs in the hands........and the penalties weren't so costly. Had those things happened we'd be talking about a title chase.
  4. I agree with the score often and early. In the 4th the depth of that program can become a factor. Up till then it's only 11 on 11. When fatigue sets in and they have fresh legs is when the depth really makes a difference............well that and special teams. We can't afford to put the thoroughbreads on the special teams the way SC can. If we give them the short field after each kick off it'll be a very long night.
  5. The dudes just messed up to say the least. We all know the whole group home thing and his history. Talent aside, the real shame is that anybody would go down such a path. I hope the guy someday finds a way to fight whatever demons he's fighting. Thus far it appears he's been loosing the battle for as long as we've been hearing about him. I hope he doesn't end up like a Scott Baldwin or something like that. Who knows maybe the guy could turn it around and use his experience to help others avoid such things. As far as his effect on the program that is only outside the program. TO made a tough choice which separates him from many others in a like position. In my mind the whole LP thing and the way TO handled it bring up the program. TO gave the guy a chance to turn it around and make something of himself, TO worked hard on a young man's behalf so he could have a chance at a decent life. Just because LP didn't take the chance and make something out of it is NOT a black eye on the program. It's like TO said "to some people I'll always be the guy that played Lawrence Philips" or something to that effect. He knew that when he did it and sucked it up and did what he felt was right. Good for him and good for the Huskers.
  6. This is a NON-issue. The SC players don't believe for a second that we have a chance thus the bulletin board material has no real effect. Second thought. This is a no win situation for Jones unless he just says the same stuff anybody says. "Ya, SC is a good team and we just want to go out there and give our best. The only other alternative is "well I hope we keep it close. We know we're not a good as them but we just don't want to be blown out" It ain't all bad a guy saying he thinks we have a shot at winning.

    CU fans

I've worked with several KSU fans over the years and they rub it in pretty good when they beat us. So be it. The ones I've worked with haven't been the best to deal with when they loose but NOTHING compared to CU fans. CU fans have got to be the worst in the nation, certainly the worst I've experienced. For now I'll just enjoy the quiet

    CU fans

Is it just me or have the CU fans become downright meek and quiet since saturday. It's like the last person in the Buff club turned out the lights and locked the doors. Frankly I'm enjoying it.
  9. Don't give them too much credit. Yes it took the mystique out of the blackshirt D, the mystique of the O-line had already been diminished prior to that and all but gone the following year. The tradition and performance of the Husker D and O-line got into the heads of opponents for years and I believe was a great advantage for us. Why do I say don't give them too much credit? If I recall correctly the beating we took on the ground had much more to do with our D than it did their Offense. It was just a poor performance on our part on a poorly coached D. We had never before or since seen so many players completely out of position. You can have guys that just distinctively have a nose for the ball and can find the runner in a pack on every down. Then you have guys who don't and must play assignment football. I recall the LB's in particular over pursueing and being completely out of position to do anything.
  10. Let CU keep talking. I prefer we NEVER forget that game. I'm glad they keep reminding us. Besides when all you've got to brag about is one game in your history you should reminise. What else do they have to brag about? The girl kicker thing? The recruiting scandals? Give'm a break. Ya they are terrible fans and that will NEVER change. I have a theory. I suspect most of the student body are native Palestinians. They can hurl water bottles with the best of the Palestinian rock hurlers. The similarities don't end there though. Their disdain for the good guys for no reason, their total lack of rational thought, the Palestinians have nothing but rocks to be found everywhere, CU fans live in a placed called Boulder. Both want what everyone else already has......self respect. Neither can form a complete sentense with out several 4 letter words. The big difference....The Palestinians don't quit.
  11. I still say this is going to be a horse race. High scoring on the SC side of things.......minimum of 38. The question is will the Husker offense be able to match them TD for TD on thier home field. We haven't had a good road team in quite a few years. I don't see SC punting more than 3 times in this game. I see our secondary getting beat for long gains. The question is can we stop the run when they try to mix it up, can Cos get the guys in the right sets at the right time. I also believe Cally is going to need at least one trick play in the game to loosen thier D up a little bit. If the game were on our own turf I'd be more optomistic but I'm still not counting the Huskers out yet. Should be a good game if the team shows up for their first real road challenge.
  12. In my youth the general concesnus was that Mizzou was a dirty team. We've all got our reputations to live down I guess. I also like the comment about the lack of proper bloodlines or something to that effect by the CU guy. I wonder how many Nebraska natives are in the NFL compared to the number of CO natives.
  13. Can you really take the guy from MO seriously. I mean he probably has to wait for his wife to get done eating so he can borrow her false teath to chew his own food. Lets see, getting slammed by a CU fan. Should we really care. CU is what it is. They try to strut around like a football powerhouse but they had but a few good years under McCartney and we all know how the Barnett thing ended up. It's been downhill since McCartney left. Hawks looks like the real deal. If he can bring them back great. If not they'll simply return to what they are and have always been before McCartney and after. A puff of smoke in a red hot conference.
  14. Hate is such a strong word. I must admit that I did find and unbelievable amount of pleasure in our win over them last year. Besides how can you hate a team with a fan base so helpful to other teams. Remember last year, the Huskers were getting tired from running up and down the field on them. The fans could see this and offered up water to re-hydrate our Huskers with dozens of bottles of water. Besides how could you dislike the marshmellows. Cooked on a stick is how I like them.
  15. While the guy may have a temper it's good to see an O-lineman with some attitude. The guy has a Ray Lewis attitude and a motor to go along with it. I didn't see the play but IMO this guy will make the team and will be a decent lineman if he can control himself, maybe even a great lineman.
  16. Michigan is getting they high rating so that everyone can justify Ohio State as a title contender if they go unbeaten. They have a very favorable schedule from the looks of it. It just doesn't appear that their conference schedule should be that tough nor the non-conference. Politics.
  17. Maybe a thorough but whoop'n of the CU team this year, next and so forth will help set the record straight. Hawks is a great coach from what I understand but we should have them this year. Keep in mind that everyone feels our season rides on ZT so he's going to have a target on his chest every single game.
  18. Back during the title years I believe the Huskers benefitted greatly. At one point they were the top selling college products. Michigan and Miami were always top sellers year in and year out but the Florida schools in general did pretty well. ND always does well also.
  19. Anyone know how that ranks compared to other major programs? I wonder what the colleseum holds. Cally had better have the team looking real good this year. I don't think Mr. Peterson would survive if the consecutive sell out streak fell. Mr. P would drop the boy in a heartbeat if that happened................then again so would I.
  20. I think we should get 200 yards. Spread around four players, that is 50 each. I could see Wilson with a carry of that amount. With all the work in the offseason, I hope to see a lot of rushing yards. I must respectfully disagree with the running yardage. At fify each that's like one run a piece for a total of 4 running plays. I think they'll run it more than that.
  21. Agreed however there could be several OC oppurtunities that we will never hear about. The coachs in the NFL are a pretty tight nit group. We only hear what they want us to hear.
  22. Old faded memory but we're talking about Beck, Daily, Dukes.......I'm missing one. Hey has anyone heard how any of these guys are panning out for their new teams?
  23. Can't wait for this track meet to begin! Poor George, I'll feel a little bad as he scratching his head trying to figure out something, any thing to slow us down. They sound like pretty classy fans though.
  24. Saw an interview with Ganz on the news last night. While one could read a little concern over the adding of two QB's recently the kid said bring on the competition. It looks like Keller will have a fight on his hands next year. I'm guessing that Ganz wont' be sitting on his honches waiting for next year though. He's going to bust his but all year just in case Taylor goes down and to prep for next year. Kids got a great attitude
