  1. Agreed. One doesn't need to look past Boulder to remind oneself of what we do not wish to represent. I hear the new coach's contract has a clause in it that he gets the 5 cent plastic bottle return deposit for each bottle thrown onto the field which could make him the highest paid coach in college footgall.

if the QB is on his back the secondary can take a nap
  3. Remember the good ol days of the Big 8, which was more often called OU, NU and the little 6. If you want respect you've got to go out and earn it by taking the win away from OU and UT. While I'm excited about the upcoming season I'm just not convinced we are ready to take OU and UT if we come in with our best game and they come in with there's. Not to take anything away from the Huskers. I'm just not sure that the coaching staff can "out coach" either team on Saturday's. Just my opinion but the Husker D appears to perform very well when they play to the aggressive side of the game. When they are put into schemes less aggressive their headhunters (McKeon and the like) can be more easily neutralized. Offensively I haven't seen where we've kept good defenses guessing. That may be entirely due to the lack of a solid running game but who knows. If the O-line performs well, the running game picks up and a true break out threat emerges in the recieving corp. it should be a very interesting year. All will be needed to win the big 12 title. It's getting very very difficult to wait for the season to begin. The LSU game should tell us a great deal.
  4. Hasn't Carroll always been known as a guy with a great defensive mind. Just so happens he's had some great talent and great offenses in recent history. You could kind of see that last year. ALL the horses were on offense but the defense really didn't have great talent. Good schemes but not great talent. Maybe I'm wrong.
  5. I disagree. Until someone else steps up to the plate and wins the big twelve will continue to be OU and UT. How many years has it been that someone wins the right to go get thumped by OU or UT for the big 12 title? It's their conference until someone else shows them otherwise.
  6. Unless the offense can gain some consistency there are very few garanteed wins. Everything looks good in the press clippings but they always do. Yes we had a good win against Michigan last year but they were in a bit of a downhill spiral at the time. Not to take anything away from the Huskers. Had they not stayed on top of them the way they did Michican could have easily had the win. It was a great game and showed a great deal of heart on the part of the Huskers. I truly believe they wanted it more at the end of the game. CU was yet another team with issues. Turnovers and penalties can kill a good team against a lessor team. There are very few givens in terms of w's and l's. I remember the 83 team that lost to Miami in the Orange bowl. The Huskers were a superior team and should have blown them out. Miami was good but I still don't believe they were in the same class as the Huskers but they did get the win. A couple of turnovers, a blown assignment and a couple of big plays and the Cyclones could look pretty darn good after 4 quarters. Barney Cotton has always struck me as fairly conservative. If he mixes it up a bit, gets some momentum and keeps the D scratching their heads...........could be interesting.
  7. That's the big question. Early on in Calahans tenure we heard about a power running game and how it was an integral part of the west coast style offense. We also heard about how adaptable it was to the personnel that were available to be put on the field. I'll be anxious to see how he is able to utilize the talent he has and adapt to it rather than force a system that doesn't have the personnel needed. I'm confident he'll do fine but anxious to see for sure. With a solid O line the offense should be fun to watch this year.
  8. The recruiting class is only as good as the number of W's before they leave. Everything else is pure speculation. The only tangible will always be W's.
  9. Jackson is smart enough to know that big time college football is a business. He has talent and probably has aspirations of a possible pro career. He's sitting at Nebraska with a frenzy of good backs where he may never get a chance to show his talent. He made a good career decision and a good business decision. It doesn't sit well but how many tough decisions are overwhelmingly accepted. He came he saw didn't like it, came back and gave it another shot and decided to leave anyway. Shows some strength and maturity in my opinion. Heck often I've wished that I would have taken some chances in my working career and made some changes rather that tough out an un-winnable situation. Lets face it no everyone that comes in here that has talent is going to get his shot. Some of these kids could be starting at other universities in systems that better fit their talents and profiles. All that means is that the coaching staff and recruits need to be sure that they are working with the right coach/player/system. Give the guy a little credit. He toughed it out for a while. Thought better of the situation and made a move. I can't fault him for that.
  10. Kicked him off..............bummer. I don't have a problem with apposing fans and teams giving the Huskers that much more motivation. Let him back in but we must do our part to remain civil and not drop to his level. I hope every player and every fan from every team in the Big 12 things the Huskers are going to stink it up. I also hope that Coz pulls out all the stops on D and Cally comes up with a few trick plays to keep everyone honest on the opposing D. Time will tell how far along the Huskers have come. The O line appears to have made great strides, the press is having...........well not a field day but at least a good day as a spectator regarding the loss of two players. Bring it on. All the hype and all the press doesn't really matter much in the end. It all comes down to how many W's we've got at the end of the year.
  11. My opinion defense wins championships. When you look at the great defensive teams whether pro or college not only do they stop the other offense but they also put points on the board. Give me a great defense with the ability to put points on the board or place the offense in scoring position any day. After that the offense can drop in a few field goals and go home.
  12. In this case like most we can all speculate. What if one of the coaches was closer to Beck, what if nobody ever called momma, what if what if. The truth is the kid wasn't happy. Something wasn't explained to him well and he didn't step up and ask what was going on or maybe it was explained correctly and he didn't like what he heard. Who really knows. As far as Becks momma goes she did what many mom's would do. Her first instinct is to protect her son. Also like most parents it can be tough to know when to let go, when to push, when to defend and when to condemn. Like all of us young Mr. Beck will file this away with anyother baggage he has in his suit case and he will either learn from it or not. Time will tell but we never know. This could be the best move for Husker Nation and for Mr. Beck in the long run. I for one hope we see some big scoring games so we can see what Ganz and Davis have to offer. I for one haven't seen either of them play and get a feel for the game and tempo.
  13. I have a natural disdain for most of the press but realistically all Sipple did was report the truth (we assume). We don't know the full story here, this young mans full story either. It really doesn't matter. It's football time in Huskerland and the Big Red is fun to watch again.
  14. This is really a non-issue if the OL comes back as strong as we all hope. Taylor will carry the load this year, #2 and #3 will be much more mature and able by next year. If the team is good enough they can win with a good QB and a great QB isn't a requirement. That being said I doubt Beck will return. Brining him back can only solidify him as the #4 guy. You can't move him up the depth chart for quite a while after this incident. Even if Taylor should go down at best you could now move him to #2. You can't give him a start. For me I guess this really isn't an issue at this point. BC will need to do what is best to solidify the team as a unit and not pander to one kids antics. Look at Stoops. He had a choice to make in the best interests of the team and the school. Granted it's a much bigger issue he addressed with a much more important player but it still remains that he didn't try to cover, sugar coat or pander. He made the call. Beck started with some respect for his talent and in one poor decision threw it all away. Now he must start over with nothing like a walk on freshman. I wish him luck and hope he's learned something from all of this. It'll be a tough road if he comes back but a road well worth the travel. The truth is that there was a possiblility that all his frustration could have been settled had he simply talked to BC. He chose another route and it may not have been the best choice.
