  1. I think the humiliating and ridiculous aspect of all this will be more than Coach Callahan can take. I sure hope so. A lot of guys with lesser egos than he would say piss on it, I'm not going to go through this anymore and simply step down. If Osborne needs to be at Callahan's practices then Callahan shouldn't be the coach for one more day. To me, it's just that simple. I bet he can't wait to get the hell out of here. I mean think about it. He's in an untenable position. I think it demeans us all as it stands now.
  2. Excellent post. I just wish he'd do the right thing and resign. Like his team has done for most of the season, Coach Callahan is just going through the motions. It's like a sham to me watching him at the press conference. It's so uncomfortable for him and everybody watching him knowing that he's doomed. His fate is sealed because the Program is in shambles. The sooner he leaves, the better.
  3. Mistaken as Cally can't do it by himself...hasn't this already been established? Isn't this why there is all this talk about firing BC in the first place? Cally is fired...we know this, TO knows this, Cally knows that is definate. But the apperance is what is being protected so that the best professionalism is being shown as far as his firing is going. Why make more waves when the media and the fans can do that for you. Exactly. It's a matter of when not if on the firing. Finito.
  4. Always the Voice of Reason and Calm, Coach Tom told Rome that one of the big advantages of the walk-on program was that it allowed the team to get a lot more reps because they could operate more stations because of the sheer number of athletes on the team. Rome asked him if he felt "betrayed" by Pederson over the Solich firing. TO wouldn't go that far but he did say it was disappointing especially since the team finished 10-3. Coach insisted again that he wouldn't tell Callahan what to do. He mentioned that Pederson's management style likely hurt him. TO said again it won't be quick and easy and he understands that fans are impatient for results, "it's just the way it is." Coach spoke of the history of the Program and how there were some great teams in the 1930s and he also modestly mentioned the great runs he and Devaney had. Rome said after the interview how much class and dignity TO has and what a soothing presence he is for the fans, something I said in a post last evening as a matter of fact.
  5. Yep. This thing had gotten to such an amazing fever pitch and frenzy that it was very soothing to see Coach Tom back in the driver's seat. Very refreshing. TO makes me feel good about things or at least optimistic that things can change. Such a contrast in style and substance from that prick Pederson.
  6. I can agree with that. The only thing that should really happen first and foremost is to start developing players. Get some of these guys a few series on the field. It's a great time to give them a shot and see what they can do. Niles Paul, Meno Holt, Wil Henry, Anthony Blue, give a few snaps to Witt (really, is that so bad?), put Culbert back at IB and give him a few meaningful carries, try him or Mendoza and Helu returning kicks and punts, on and on and on. I'm not saying start these guys, or play them majority of the downs. But give these guys a chance to play on Saturday. Better to make a mistake now while they are young. Allow them develop. And forget the redshirt crap. Save them for what? Burn 'em and play 'em. You wont know if someone is a playmaker if he's standing on the sidelines week after week, watching what we are watching, and just wondering "what did I do wrong to not get consideration for some playing time". They might just bring some fresh air, some excitement and enthusiasm... or life to the field. Just my two cents. Maybe a buck. GBR!!! I also would like to see some of the other players get experience and see what they can do and maybe as you say it could bring some enthusiasm and excitement back to the field.
  7. TO also said on Monday that he hasn't spoken to Perlman about the AD job and then we find out today that he was in Cally's office on Friday.....ummm why would that be?? And then Perlman admits that he talked to Osborne on Sunday. Don't believe everything you hear in press conferences. Also, Perlman said they had to start the search for an AD yesterday and they already had talks with TO. Trust me, Cally is already gone....they are merely waiting until the right time. TO hinted towards getting rid of Cally. You gotta listen to it and in political speak he is not supporting Cally. Not once did he say he supports them. I totally believe this to be true. There is NO way Callahan survives this long-term. Half-measures will avail us nothing. The clean sweep will be made in a timely manner, maybe not as swift as Michael Corleone in The Godfather on Baptism Day, but the Callahan Experiment is definitely in its final death throes. My personal hunch is that Callahan couldn't survive the complete unmasking of all the program's weaknesses at Missouri and the Okie State mauling was simply the coup de grace. I wished it would have worked out for Coach Callahan but he's had his chance.
  8. For his great reports on this huge story, I give a big thank you and many kudos to the now-legendary "I Bleed Red." My elderly mother has even heard of him and asked me earlier today if he had any more news about the Huskers! Nicely done.
  9. Very gracious post. Some of my best memories and fun moments in life have centered around the classic NU-OU football rivalry. It'd be hard to script some of the amazing scenarios that played out on the field back in the day. That series had it all.
  10. Great post. It definitely detracts from college football. I love the college dynasties and think football is much more interesting when Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, OU and especially Nebraska are good or great. The TV games are better and something to look forward to. Have to hand it to South Florida, but I just can't get too fired up for a S. Florida vs. Northwest Southeast East-West Florida AT&T matchup.
  11. Interesting Keller's intelligent and mature comments on how no one quite knows how to deal with the "weight of the situation." I can't help but feel bad for all of the young athletes who hate losing. So frustrating for everyone.
  12. It was like science back in the days when OU ran the Wishbone so effectively and Tommie Frazier had the Option attack clicking. And all those great players.
  13. Good points about Pederson having to go before things can really get back to where they need to be. He is so polarizing and bad for Big Red football. And does he have the only call-in show in America that doesn't allow phone calls? How chickensh#t is that?
  14. I bought 2 Husker sweatshirts today and am wearing one I bought about five years ago. But I already have taken down my Big Red yard ornaments that I always put out on Game Day for fear they'd be vandalized.
  15. There was even a little chatter in the booth about "positive spin" and there seemed to be a consensus that there is no way to put positive spin on such disasters as losing so convincingly to Okie State at home for the first time in 47 years. And if anyone could do it that man would be Jim Rose but even he, the master spin meister himself, seemed tongue-tied by the reality of getting mauled 38-0 in the FIRST HALF!
  16. Is this even possible? Could it be pulled off? Would it do more harm than good?
  17. I listened and it was uncomfortable and Twilight Zonish. It's abundantly clear the End Times are here for Pederson and Callahan.
  18. A clearly shaken Callahan said in post-game that "no one can really cancel the season." I bet he wishes he could right now or wake up and find out the past few weeks was just some horrible Kafkaesque dream. It's hard to put into words just how bad this is, how uncomfortable it is to simply listen to Coach speak after these awful games and wonder if it can get any worse and knowing that it can since a big portion of the season remains. The team is like a sick or injured animal that needs to be put out of its misery. But the reality is there is a game to be played next week. Hard to fathom how pathetic it has become to actually be worried how badly Big Red will be embarrassed by its next opponent instead of being fired up about winning games and championships.
  19. I'll always be a Husker fan and agonize in the bad times but rock n' roll when things are clicking. I haven't put 40 years into this thing to find another team to root for now! I think it's funny how people who claim to hate Big Red and make fun of them are still interested in what's going on and watch them on TV.
  20. They are not jellin. They are truly awful in nearly every aspect of the game. I wasn't upset when Solich left and have been supportive of what Callahan has tried to do but it obviously is not working out. I think it's over. After Missouri, it would take a miracle for Callahan to stay on. I was counting on Callahan getting speedy playmakers on both sides of the ball, but we haven't had any gamebreakers or players the other team fears since Crouch won the Heisman. And why does Marlon Lucky always seem to trip and fall down all the time? Where is the balance after contact? It's like he's wearing big oversized clown shoes. Drives me nuts. I never thought they were jellin. I cannot even try to have an opinion in this thread, thus the GBR. It is the only thing that I can relate to here. I will always say GBR. Better posting here instead of making another GBR! thread the day before the game. I have nothing further to add. I didn't mean to directly reply to your post. Sorry about that.
  21. Matt Davison should be doing full-time TV work for ESPN. He looked as comfortable as an old shoe when he was in the ESPN booth late in the Missouri game. I think he has a great future in broadcasting. It'd be sickening if his prescient and timely comments got him into any trouble. Pedersen is so creepy and bad news.
  22. Try to play with more reckless abandon and quit thinking all of the time and just play hard and fearless. Make plays. They play stiff and scared and have zero confidence, like a 25 percent free-throw shooter being asked to make the game winner with time expiring in double OT. Catch the ball when it hits you in the hands. Use solid fundamental tackling techniques and a little tenacity when trying to tackle D-1 running backs and receivers.
  23. Didn't play for the Big Red, but I watched OU knock Johnny Rodgers out of the game on a sideline route in the early 1970s. He's still my favorite player pro or college of all time. The quintessential playmaker. Tough and clutch.
