  1. To be fair, the teams he was shown against on that video had tiny linemen and LB's, so Renfree knew he couldn't get lit up by anybody on the other side. In the state title game, he had a scramble and did a hook slide, which I thought was kinda weak. But on the other hand it shows he has the smarts to know when it's worth it to put your head down and go for it. Whoever said he looks like Colt Brennan was right on. When he throws the short, quick routes, he does sling it out there like Brennan. On deeper throws he has to wind it up a bit more. However, he is very accurate and very decisive in his passes. NU should consider offering to one of his wideout buddies. Both #80 Brandon Hirniese (6-2, 180, 74 catches, 1494 yards) and #17 Andy Wilder (6-3, 190, 44 catches, 861 yards) could develop into very good possession type receivers at the D-I level. Both catch the ball very well and are tough (both played defense). NU should make it a package deal to sway Renfree.
  2. DeBoskie had a ho-hum season this year, splitting carries with Nathan Jeffry. DeBoskie and his parents were not happy and he spent a good portion of the season pouting. I don't know if that hurts his stock or not, but he may have fallen off the radar for a few schools if they looked at his numbers this year (821 yards, 18 touchdowns). Arizona still has some solid prospects available, with DeBoskie being one of those.
  3. I watched Renfree in his state championship game, he showed a lot of things in that game. He has a quick release, leads his receivers well and is not afraid to run. He does like Arizona State, but they have a bunch of quarterbacks, including Jack Elway (John's son). If he's smart, he'll realize his chances of getting in the lineup sooner will be at Nebraska.
  4. Anyone who has read Knapplc's posts on these rumors knows how he feels about them, so he has decided to dish a couple of doozies to stir the pot and point out how ridiculous some of these rumors sound.
  5. I think the NCAA should scrap the current scheduling process. Instead of the individual universities doing their own out of conference scheduling 5 or 10 years out, the NCAA would do it. This way, they could develop a formula that would assure every major conference team played at least two OOC games against teams from the major conference and then the other games could be against non-BCS conference schools. The schedules could be done in two-year blocks, assuring a home-and-home series. The universities could appeal for specific opponents or for traditional matchups (like Notre Dame-USC or Clemson-South Carolina) that they want to continue, but this would eliminate the four cupcake OOC schedule that has become popular among rebuilding programs. The conferences would continue to handle their own conference schedules, but a new system would help eliminate some of these 'they didn't play anyone' debates. Ohio State shouldn't be playing Akron every year. They should be playing teams like Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and other perennial upper-tier teams from the other conferences.
  6. What was Purify stopped for? Speeding? Illegal turn? Or some other trumped-up charge that pretty much comes down to DWB (Driving While Black)? He had to be stopped for something for the police to determine he was driving without a license, so I'd be interested to know what it was. And all of the police supporters on here, you have to admit that in Lincoln, sometimes guys are stopped simply for DWB. And it's not just in Lincoln, it happens everywhere in this country. Mo should have gotten his license back and should pay the fine, ect. for driving without a valid license, but to chalk up this latest, very petty incident to a "Character problem" is not completely fair to the guy.
  7. Here's some news from USC, courtesy of the L.A. Times Tailback Emmanuel Moody, USC's second-leading rusher last season, will transfer to another school, several sources said Wednesday. Moody is one of three USC tailbacks who appear on the regional cover of Sports Illustrated's college football preview edition. But amid continuing speculation that a 10-deep position group would cause one or more tailbacks to transfer, the sophomore from Texas was a no-show at practice and at evening team meetings. Coach Pete Carroll declined to comment. Moody could not be reached for comment, but he said last week that he "felt forgotten" coming into training camp because of an ankle injury that forced him to sit out the Trojans' last four games and a hamstring injury that caused him to sit out nearly all of spring practice. Moody had looked good in the first week, but he suffered a knee bruise in Sunday's scrimmage at the Coliseum and did not practice Monday or Tuesday. Moody did not attend Wednesday morning's walkthrough. Afterward, when most players retire to the dorms to nap, Moody walked the campus talking on his cellphone. After the Trojans began practice, Moody walked toward the dorm in a T-shirt and shorts. Asked if he was off to see a doctor, Moody said he was going to fill out paperwork and would have more tests on his knee. USC's tailback depth might have taken another hit on Wednesday. Freshman Joe McKnight sprained his knee trying to block and retired to the trainers' table for most of practice. McKnight said he would be out the rest of the week. "I'll be OK," said McKnight, who was fitted with a brace. Freshman Marc Tyler, who broke his leg last season, is not practicing and sixth-year senior Hershel Dennis has been held out because of knee soreness. I think you'll see this happening more and more. You can't have the best recruiting classes for four or five years running and not have too many stars wanting to get their statsAll of those players were probably told by SC coaches that they would make immediate impacts in the program, but they all can't.
  8. You know what would be sick is if NU brought this cat in to do a live mix during the tunnel walk for the USC game. Run some of his own stuff as the highlights play and then mix it with the Alan Parsons Project song, then, as the boys hit the field, cue the band. That would have the fogies on the north side tossing their knickers on the field.
  9. Well, the Rams haven't been known as defensive juggernauts the last few years. Coaching staffs have different techniques they like to teach. Carriker's comments weren't an indictment of NU's coaches, just a blunt assessment of how things are taught differently in different systems.
  10. Sorry if it's overlap, just did a quick scan of the topic names and didn't see anything new.
  11. Just saw this on ESPN. New to forum so don't know how to put up a link, but here is the URL. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2558713
  12. Here's the latest from AZ. Keller's father told my sources that reports out of Nebraska that he is a lock to go there are premature. However, the Keller's have been in contact with Nebraska (and other schools that I just don't know right now). The father also said he is definitely leaving ASU. I think they are putting feelers out, getting the pulse of the programs and then will decide within a day or two. Nebraska is in the running, but without speaking to the player or his dad, it's hard to tell which way Sam is leaning. Keller's intentions are to play on Sundays. He will fit in great in the NU offense, especially with a full year to soak it up. Since he only has one season to put this whole fiasco behind him, what you'll get on the field next year is a highly-motivated guy out to prove that he should have been a starter all along. Great players can be even greater when they play with a little chip on their shoulder. I think it will work out well for both sides.
  13. Being down here in AZ for the last few years and watching Sam Keller, I can tell you that he would be a great bridge between Taylor and the next good quarterback at NU. Keller's off-field problems are basically rumors like: He likes to party a lot, drink a little too much and have too much fun. If you've seen the co-eds at ASU, who could blame the kid. Also, he's kind of cocky and many of the ASU players didn't really like him off the field. Also, other rumors have been circulating that when ASU coach Dirk Koetter named Keller his starter on Friday, Rudy Carpenter was very upset and was pondering his future at ASU (re: he was going to transfer). So, instead of losing a pretty good quarterback for three seasons (Carpenter's a sophomore), Koetter, after meeting with several players who wanted Carpenter to be the starter because they liked him more personally, Koetter decided he'd rather lose a pretty good quarterback with one year left. If Keller transfers, ASU has nothing behind Carpenter, but if he can make it through this season without getting hurt, Koetter can recruit a guy to groom.
