  1. In fairness to the guy whose number was called (Smith) by the ref, I didn't see a hold on either play. I don't think you should lose your job because the ref F's up. Tex Tech had holds on almost every play....no calls. IMO the refs decide these games by willfull neglect or application of one sidedness. TT got a zebra break today....
  2. After watching OK ST beat Mizzu last night it is clear that to beat a Mizzu or TT you cant do it rushing 3 guys. OK ST really handled Mizzu with 8 man fronts and LB's and saftey disguised coverages. Danials had his rythim taken out right from under him. In my view this game will be re watched for the prottotype of how to defeat the spread. Add the time of possession element of OK ST and Ne today using the run, put those together and your keys to victory versus the spread are clear. We looked much better today at TT, guess what no 3 man fronts. 5-2 4 was far more effective. many of the spreads advantages are neutralized by the extra congestion within 5 to 7 yds of LOS. Playing off with more DBs in zone, you just get picked apart. 3 man fronts concede the LOS and should never be used against the spread offences. When everyone fgured out 8 men in the box could beat the option, it forced changes. Same will be true with the spread. Breakdown the film of both games today, and a prototype D against the spread should begin to emerge. OK St and NU both used good balance today. While disapointed by our loss, the team played much better, within a better scheme. missed several opportunities to strip the ball for turnovers today, its always one element or another...perhaps we'll get complete game sometime this year.
  3. too early to say. lot of the best defense was in 2nd half after NM began playing a true freshman at center......that was awful tough for that kid, sacks, bats, and penalties all started after they lost thier starting center. depth for NM played a role in our performance. Missuri has plenty of depth, as do most of our B12 opponents. VT is young, we wont know much until after MO>imho
  4. Nebraska scored on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. that is meaningful in its own right. The failure of SDSU to convert field goals hurt them immensley. Running game will have to adjust to 8 men in the box because that is what we'll see, all year. I expect that there are ways to counterprogram what we'll be seeing. Ganz has good capability for play action, the skills he showed in game 1 prove that. might try a stack 2 TE and fullback in front of I back. Too early to write any forgone conclusions, we do not really know whats to come, D gave up yards but not points? In a win that is not too bad, in a loss, you can get down mentally because the evidence matches the outcome. Special Team D needs work, Special teams O is a potential production center with Paul in the mix.
  5. They might not have there best WR by the time they come up here. And if they do, he probably won't be 100%. mizzus lines are strong, its line backers very good, its secondary is a problem. Illinois didnt run like last year having lost thier back to the nfl, but juice was burning them deep. mizzu looked pretty damn good.
  6. Game viewed on PPV. If first impressions are wieghed against hope as expectation, my general post game / team view is that NU will have a better season than last year, the youth in the depth chart stood out today, there were many positive signs and many missed assignments. Our athletecism is better. Execution was spotty on D and O. Watson gave the team a good tempo in playcalling, running game was off from expectations, accept JoeG speed on his runs was outstanding..... Henry was lights out good tonight...on his FGs, a couple of his attempts were difficult points off of FG cant be taken for granted, points are points. Cody played like a guy with hs hair on fire....what is not to like about that. He covered some deep balls against backs and rec and imo was excellent most of the time, only two or three plays all night where he hiccuped. For 1st game at lb he was special. liked Jared Cricks effort as well, he got his hands up and knocked down one ball late in q4, thinking he could emerge and weneed him too, as we missed the big guy we lost by suspension. Prince showed some skills for sure, as did Hagg and West, despite several breakdowns. Because i dont know where some of these guys are supposed to be on any given play, it seemed like the safteys were out of position the most, and that a few missed tackels kinda got my hackels up on a few plays. Definitely liked the tighter coverages on rec versus last year, in fact that aspect stood out as very positive. The guys were playing tight and that lets them get position on the ball which we sorly lacked last year. Kick off and punt return coverage, needs work, more of the bench need to step up and want that duty, because those plays will be critical against guys like Macklin and many other ST punt and KO returners in the games ahead. running game was hard to judge, timing wasnt there on perimeter blocks too many whiffs, so they need to work that out. OL hard to say why more yrds were not available, too soon to judge this IMO. We knw the backs have the skills. Joe G's mobility was outstanding, his accuracy was good when he was steping nto his throws, that rope to Luck for TD showed something. Rec did better than avg. a few drops, a few throws out of sync...chalk them up to missed opportunities, and then work to cut those down in future games. Saw enough too be optimistic about our season, depth is going to play a role, the younger players will have the opportunity to shine, with the kind of attitude shown in this first game, there is reason to sustain a solid outlook for this team. all in all enjoyed the game. the tempo and the key changes in coverage style....leave a good first impression.
  7. We all knew this kid was special! His dad is a coach and probably told him to make an impact on special teams.....purrfect place for a true freshman with special skills. its tough to crack the lineup as a true frosh, one of the surest ways to make an impression is to take the ST route, just like young guys to the NFL, if they cant or wont step up on ST, they will likely cut ya. Establish yourself as a Player 1st.....that is a mindset, from the videos we saw, you would expect that attitude from a kid like Mason....and here we are hours away fro an opener, and there he is...came to play the game.
  8. Read a story back in April about Tyrone Fahie. This guy is already a man at 26 years old, served in the military and if his intangibles are up to par, I'd expect him to climb the dept chart relatively quickly. From the original piece it indicated he was a bit rusty and short on experience but a mature man up against even great kids.....man wins. 92 Fahie, Tyrone DE 6-3 255 So. Virginia Beach, Va. (U.S. Navy) (Ocean Lakes)
  9. Mason Wald has the best inate skills of any film I've seen on any of our recruits. This young man if he has the head will be all B12 by Jr yr, flat out cuts the field to the ball ratios better than anyone since mike Brown. Cant teach what this kid shows.
  10. Ask Bill Parcells what he thinks of the whole Frost family. When Bill was coaching at hastings college before his other careers he used to pow wow with frosts on football. me thinks scott has been mentored very well, and will do very well where ever he is.
  11. did Bo say anything about how his meetings with the players went? Asst coaches? Missed the whole thing.... can someone recap what I missed
  12. Robsker attacks fans for ingratitude to team; His attack is not founded in facts, but hyperbole. all the proof you need is the consecutive sell out of the stadium remains intact. Count the turnstyle robsker. people vote with thier wallets. You are like a mouthpiece of the new left, always seeking to find a scapegoat. What better scapegoat than question the loyalty of a fan base beyond your hyperbole. Husker football isnt going anywhere that this fan bases has not seen before. Afterall we've always had opponents in every game, we've seen bad coaching in victory and defeat. Every game at home or on the road has been watched critically by most of us. We dont even need claims such as We'll be back" truth is we never left. We know good football by our tradition, including the battles of the 70's when we couldnt get past the Sooners, no we are an educated fan, schooled in both adversity and success. we dont need no mouthpieces, to describe our intent. We are what we are, and will make no apologies for it. your attempt to add baggage to the equation has failed.
  13. Count me as one who had no idea what Ganz had, I'd never seen him play, throw or run it was all a mystery to me. I only know there has been an avater on someones posts that said Fear the Ganz.....all along that persons conveyed the truth. Ganz is outstanding, he deserves all credit, the emotional sparks fly with JG in the game. You had to see it. I feel cheated not having been given the opportunity to see him until now. Seems like the staff is good at wasting talent, be they redshirts that get ripped off before there time, or players like Ganz who are riding the bench for whatever rationalization the coaches might have. Its like Purify not showing up in all games all the time....whose brain dump is behind that? Fix it is all Ive got to say, there is talent here that needs leadership, not managment by ego.
  14. Wave the wheat; congrats, this is the best KU fb team in 40 years, hope you win out. Your right about your coach and your players heart.
