  1. I'd think that any inteviewees coming to Lincoln would be absolutely swarmed by the press. It's way too early in the process. Hopefully TO talks with qutie a few at this preliminary stage and then brings only a few to Lincoln.
  2. Yeah baby. That's the Husker mindset I'm talkin' about!
  3. Well, we'll never know what would have been. But, we do know that parity is bandied about as the "cause" of all the upsets and that the changes in scholarships are leading to more parity. But that doesn't explain NUs fall from power. While there are some elements of truth to the parity explanation, I still say that the main reason NU was dominant in the past is the strength and conditioning program and the dedication of the players to become physically dominant and to go out and physically punish opponents. Hopefully that will be item number one for the new coach and something tells me that TO will let that be known very clearly.
  4. Of course I am optimistic about the future. You can't keep a good Husker down for long, especially now that Cally is history.
  5. At least Madden coached, wona superbowl, and knows the game. Burnt is just a talking head.
  6. Finally someone nails it. That's what Nebraksa Husker football was. When you played the hukser, you knew you were in for an a$$ kicking, even if you pulled out a win.
  7. During the MU KU game last night, did anyone notice how the A$$hat Muchberger start whining that schools needed to be more patient with coaches and pointed to Pinkle and Mangia as examples. Clearly intimated that NU had moved to quickly. Know it all Brent said the proper time frame was 5 years and that NU should have waited. Did anyone else notice that he also claimed Callahan's departure was due to the improvements shown by KU and MU! They really ought to ban that moron for the airwaves.
  8. fierce in our losses X That's what I took from TO's press conference. It isn't just about W and L. It how you win and how you lose. No one wants any more losing seasons. As far as how long? I ain't jumping on that issue cuz the fact is, it's an unanswereable question when you factor in how well they play in a loss. But it could be for a long time. As TO said, change is hard and expensive. It is disruptive and makes recovery all the more difficult. I think BC got more than a fair shot. But that's just my opinion. If his teams had been mroe competitive this year, he probably would not have been fired. For how many years did TO suffer the ignominy of being the coach that choked on the big one? He stuck around for over 20 years without the BIG win because his teams were, by and large, always very competitive. So, if they put together a team that doesn't suffer 20 30 or 40 point losses and doesnt' have losing seasons, chances are it will be quite a while.
  9. From TOs Presser today: "He recalled a recent conversation he had with former Colorado coach Bill McCartney. “He said, ‘You’ve lost your identity,’” Osborne said. “I think what he was saying was that we used to be a team that people hated to play because they felt it for two or three weeks.”" IMHO this couldn't be more true. When is the last time you saw a Husker team really punish an opponent? Until they get back to being the strongest team out there, the best conditioned, it isn't going to be the Huksers of old. I sincerely hope the new coach understands this.
  10. Junior has it nailed. You can't blame it totally on the defense at Boulder. The offensive play calling in the second half absolutely stunk. The WHOLE tenor of the game changed with that first interception and run back. The Husker were staggered and CU was sky high. The next one, that gave CU the lead was the back breaker for NU. The defense that had played farily well in the first half, just didn't' show up again. And the offense, once again, shut down totally for the whole 3rd quarter and 11 minutes of the 4th quarter. IN short, the team was beaten mentally and it showed. Now, all we can do is hope the new coach can figure out how to handle these kids on the mental side of the game.
  11. it is not working for me. whats up? Me either but it could be because I'm at work. For got about that. Dang. Works fine for me but I'm the only one signed into the Head Coach forum. Lots inthe General Chat section though
  12. Somehow I just don't care about KU MU..... not when our Huskers are in extremis
  13. Man, don't tease me, please don't tease me...... I dont' trust the media at all. Remember when they said Gore was elected, and then Bush, and then Gore, and then......... Oh please please please please let them be right.
  14. The only reason I will be disappointed tomorrow is if TO keeps BC. No alternative could be worse than watching this continue.
  15. You are one of the those I feel sorry for.
  16. The real reason, and maybe the predominant one, that TO must give BC the boot is because he not only turned his back on decades of Cornhusker tradition, he bascially stomped it into the ground. He totally ignored what made this football program pre-eminent for decades. He totally wiped out the thought that being a Husker player, having earned the right to step on to that field and play, was a high privilege and honor, that you too, could wear the red and white and represent along with the greats of the past. That, in my mind, evidences a total lack of understanding about the game. To those who play this game, this very difficult game, you need motivation. As Zac once put it, just playing for Nebraska should be motivation enough. Well, when you hide the tradition of excellence, the tradition of blindingly hard work, when you take the photos off the wall, when you tell walk-ons that they don't have a chance becuase of all the scholarship players, then you don't understand how to motivate or how to lead. All the perfect schemes in the world won't win a single championship without inspired play. BC might be really bright and know the theory behinds the Xs and Os, but he obviosuly doesn't know how to work with young men. If you can't motivate or lead young men, if you actually have your players telling the media that they are a product, then you have no hope of being a championship college football coach. TO knows this. TO is the incarnation of this. That is why I say, TO will say: Good bye Bill.
  17. At its roots, it is a sport, a game, not a business. As it is played on the field, it is a game, and not a business. That there are those those who profit from the marketing of that game, does not make the game a business. That there are people willing to pay large sums of money to see and support that game, does not make the game a business. That there are those who make millions selling equipment to get ready for the game, does not make the game a business. That there are those who make millions to play or coach the game, does not make the game a business. What is a business is gaining profit from the game and the only thing wrong with that is that business sometimes tries to control the game, i.e. gambling, i.e TV timeouts, etc. But the game itself is not a business. The game is about working together as a group to overcome the best efforts of the opposition. It is competition just to see who wins. Pure and simple. It is not earth shattering. It is not even very important in the great scheme of things. But, it is football, the greatest of all sports. It is a game, THE game in my opinion. To those of you who don't understand that, well, I feel sorry for you.
  18. Six years? Man, i know what he's done to Husker football is rightfully called criminal, but six years in the state penitentiary seems a but excessive.
  19. I know what your are trying to say, with the Coaches and AD's saying the won't fire/resign/be bought or buy out, until the season is over. But, other than that, I don't think it's the same boat at all. I don't mean to disrespect the Aggies but A&M hasn't had a program of FOUR DECADES of superiority and even dominance that is now in a heap of ashes.
  20. I would hold off on using the name BlackShirts for a while! Well, they played like Blackshirts for 3 quarters. In fact, that was the saddest part of that game. It wasn't the offense. Keller has been mediocre all along and the OL has been pathetic all along. It wasn't that an average team ended up smacking the defense around. It was that for the first time ever, I heard an announcer praise the Huskers for playing real hard for three quarters.
  21. Try any of the following: Huskers.com or KETV.com or KMTV.com WOWT.com They will probably all stream it live.
  22. On what happens if the wildly hoped for miracle happens and the Huskers manage to turn it around and win the rest of their games. Of course we get a bowl game but do any of you statisticians have any insight into what a 9 win season gets us? Are we in or out of the B12N hunt having lost to Mizzou?
