  1. James Patrick Tressel (born December 5, 1952) is the current head football coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Tressel
  2. I've heard rumors theyare after Scott Frost, currently OC at Oregon? Anyone else hear that? Bruce Feldman ‏@BruceFeldmanCFB With Bo Pelini done at #Nebraska, expect #Oregon OC Scott Frost to get a close look. Terrific off. coach & very well-liked by Tom Osborne
  3. Commend you on your thoughtful post. Quite an interesting point you make in #3 above. Not to pour salt in any old wounds or stir up a hornet's nest but there was once a head coach at Nebraska who won 9 games and lost 3 and got fired, just two years after winning 11 games and going to the NCG. As I recall, that head coach hired Bo as DC, and when the HC got the axe, Bo stepped into interim HC position for Alamo Bowl win. Then rather than hire Bo permanently for something like continuity, he got the axe and they broght in a "pro" coach. How'd that work out? Just saying.......
  4. Looks like you called about three minutes too early: LINK Their CS told me they would have something set up later on but well, I finally got the BTN through DISH an Channel 439 (south of Plattsmouth). I am paying $7 per month for the multi sports package in addition to our regular America Top 200. I did this just to insure that if it's on BTN, I will get it because for some reason, I can't bring myself to trust any television broadcast system. Now, come Sept 1, I will be seeking to cancel the Multi Sports package it indeed the BTN is offered without furtehr charge as indicated as part of the AmericasTop packages.
  5. Okay, so I think I've got this figured out. I won't be bothering to switch to Direct because, as I understand it, it doesn't matter which satelite system or cable system you have, regarding Husker football anyway. Direct HAS the BTN now but does NOT HAVE the right to broadcast Husker Games yet. Dish does NOT have BTN but will around Augusut 11, 2011. I'll just add their one time fee sports package around then. But even then, no one, not Direct, not Dish, not Time Waner, not Cox, will have rights to broadcast Husker games. Husker games will be broadcast only after BTN assigned broadcast rights and it won't do that until Time Warner agrees to put BTN on a no pay tier. Sometimes I realy hate what big business has done to college football......
  6. espn link Read the comments section! "My simulated wife made me vitual bacon and eggs in my virtual mansion" Might be a cultural thing but I think the other B1G fans get a bigger kick if their team goes to the Rose Bowl than the MNC game. Have they pubnlished the results of all of their "virtual" games?
  7. We have the Dish Network. It did not offer the Big Ten Network on my programming plan in Nebraska. I called. They said just go to the web site and add it. I did. I confirmed the order of a multiple sports package. The Big Ten Netowrk did not show up on my programming guide. I went back to the web site. Any evidence that I had ordered it was gone. So i called Dish Network again. Now they explain that they will automatically add the Big Ten network to locals near Big Ten Schools. At no additional charge. So, I asked when they would do that. They said when the Big Ten Network got broadcast rights in Nebraska. I asked when that might be. Dish Network said it was up to the Big Ten Conference. I've read about the head butting with Time Warner Cable and how that is holding up the delivery of broadcast rights. However, I'm technically challenged and don't understand what that all means. I know that DirectTV already offers the Big Ten Netowrk and that Dishnetwork offers it also to zip codes less than two miles east of me in Iowa. So, how and why is a cable tv company holding Nebraska fans hostage? I'd appreciate any information any of you can share as I am deciding on whether or not to switch to DirectTV.
  8. I don't care who you are. That there is funny! In fact, that may be the best post ever........
  9. I think the bigger question is how well will the Husker Defense play in the CCG? So, what say you? How many point can they hold Texas to, thus setting the bar for how good the O has to be in order to win. Or do you think the D can score enough to win it alone?
  10. A close loss would just mean that NU was not yet a great team. Great teams win the close ones, teams that are just pretty good occasionally upset great teams and thus take a step toward their own greatness. The early season VT loss was a sign that NU is not yet great but had great potential. But I don't see any loss at the end of the season as positive unless "alsoran" is positive.
  11. What ever happened to that Martin or Mark Lucky dude who played for the Huskers a couple of years ago. Aint heard much about him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlon_Lucky
  12. Yeah, too bad we only see them every other year but it makes the game in Lincoln every four years that much more special.
  13. At a Coloradans for Nebraska Watch party!. Was going to travel to the game but plans changed due to son on leave from Marine Corps. About 250 Husker fans and maybe like four Beefalos. They were pretty cocky to say the least. Was on second Jack (double) and Coke. When they snapped the ball, I instantly got a chill. When the kick went up, I literally jumped up on my chair and started screaming "GOOOOOOOUSUNOVABCHGOOOOOOO" even before it went. When it went through, the whole place erupted, total pandemonium. I saw like four spilled drinks and a couple of dinners hit the floor as well.
  14. FWIW, Freeman didn't fare very well at the combine last weekend.
  15. Those were the genious defensive calls of the season IMHO, plus brilliantly executed. I have very warm feeling about the future of Husker football.
  16. Man, that is music to my ears. Huskers = Power Football.
  17. Do you think he could be a four year starter?
  18. One spring in the mid 70's, I taught Vince Ferragamo, Chuck Malito and Tony Davis to SCUBA dive. And my wife used to babysit Craig Johnson....
  19. The KICK! WOW. But I have to say that my favorite image from the game is the Suh run back, the sealing of the deal. The stiff armed - full speed three hundred pound knee to the rib cage, full body slam. Gaaaawwd, that was just plain fabulous. Hell, that poor kid might as well have tried to stop a freight train. For a second there, it kind of made me feel sorry for the kid. But, just for a second.
  20. I saw MAJOR improvement in the psyche of the team. Yes, we still have hurdles like pass defense, and consistent run blocking but the ferocity is coming back, the tenacity on defense, the heart. You can have all the 5 star blue chippers in the world and if they aren't coached to have a heart for the game, they'll go the way of the Callahan era. All other things being equal, the difference between also-rans and champions is the heart. That extra burst of speed that become second nature when the ball snaps. The extra stretch to make that one handed catch. That extra shove that allows you to beat a block and make a sack. The belief that now matter what, you believe in your team's and your ability to find a way to get it done. The routine four seconds of insane but focused ferocity. Yes, I see that coming back. Yes, I think Bo has delivered. He knows the team isn't there yet but they have come so very far. It takes time.
  21. For those of you that suggest we don't want to play GT, it appears that the reason is you don't think we can beat them or we can't handle them. If so, allow me to suggest that should be THE reason you want to play them. My take on Bo is not that he or his team would cower from a tough challenge. My take on Bo is that he would relish the challenge, and hopefully, he' instilling that in the hearts and minds of these young men, rebuilding what I always thought was the heart of Hukser football. Playing only teams you think you can beat is not what makes a champion.
  22. Agreed. Their offense stinks and they won't be able to stop ours. GO BIG RED! I wonder how many folks recall the formative years of this relationship the 80s. The two teams swapped training secrets. Bobby was the one that taught TO about Speed on Defense. That's where we moved our safeties to corner and our corners to LB and recruited blinding speed at safety. That was one of the main reasons for the ascendancy of the Huksers in the 90s. In turn though, TO taught Bobby about the running game. That's how great both of those coaches were, to see the value of shedding their pride and learning from each other. Both teams benefited and prospered tremendously. With that said though, while it was an interesting non-conference rivalry back then, I frankly see no particular joy in playing them at this point in the Bo rebuilding era. I think Bo has done an amazing job in rebuilding the character of this team. To fight back from adversity, to never give up, to swarm to the ball on defense, to actually tackle like you knew how. He's even got the offensive line playing like there is a glimmer of recognition that they stand in the shadow of some of the finest offensive blocking in history. I mean, it really looks like a football team again. So, if Bo really has moved this team to where we think he has, I'd much rather see us play the toughest team out there becasue win, lose, or draw, that's how you become a national powerhouse.
  23. It was a bizarre day. The defense was Jeckly and Hyde. On the one hand, the tackling was pathetic at times. They missed like 5 tackles on one play alone, er make that 5 arm takles. On the other hand, they had big times stops and sacks, too. Bo's correct that they just played lousy. On the other hand, the Defense made game changing plays plays as well, did they not? I think the team was up, but just didn't execute. Time and reps will tell. As for the stupid penalites, yeah, that's a problem. Penalties like that come from lack of discipline. Discipline takes time to instill. I am no more or less worried than I always am about dem Huskers. It's kids, remember.
  24. Shhhh, don't blow his cover. That whole getting shot thing was so he could dump Yoko, move out of New York and have a normal life. It's sad though that instead of making it all the way to Nebraska, he got lost and hung up in Arkansas.
