  1. I'm with Sipple on this one. Lucky for whatever reason has not shown big-time running ability yet, and he needs to come back another year to show that he is not merely a receiving option out of the backfield. Besides the Nevada game (an aberration) and the Texas game (he was an absolute beast in that one), I've rarely Marlon showcase his pure running prowess. I know he's incredible out of the backfield in the passing game, which obviously is key when it comes to NFL personnel directors, but I still think he needs to come back and show he can be a 20-carry, 120 ypg-type running back. Particularly, as Sipple pointed out, when there is going to be a lot of good juniors in the draft. Obviously a lot of it depends on what Watson has in mind for the offense as well as how Pelini's input will affect the game planning, but in the end I still think there is room for more development. I think what could ultimately decide it is who we hire for the RB coaching position and the bond that he and Marlon develop. I think if they hit it off, he'll stay (as he should). But it's up to him, and I hope he listens to his heart and not agents or whatever other outside influences are talking to him.
  2. 311 is good, but only after several hours of recreational drug use and munchie consumption. Not a good recipe for a team about to play a game of violent physical contact. In my opinion, which like everybody else's on this board, amounts to nothing, I think the best route would be something of the 80's rock variety in the vein of ACDC and the like. I don't want some no-name band that is basically just yelling into a microphone. Thunderstruck is a classic, and would be best in my opinion, but that is really overdone sometimes. The real thing we should try to do is find something that is classic but that isn't being played in every other stadium in the country. I still love the "contender" theme tunnel walks, but we can't go back to that because I refuse to have any reminders of the Callahan era.
  3. Link Nebraska The process: The Cornhuskers won't be rebuilt overnight, after they suffered through one of the worst seasons in school history under former coach Bill Callahan. The Cornhuskers went 27-22 in Callahan's four seasons, two of which ended in losing records, which previously hadn't occurred at Nebraska since 1962. With the Cornhuskers' struggling like never before, athletic director Steve Pederson -- who hired Callahan and gave him a contract extension before the 2007 season -- was fired in midseason. Former football coach Tom Osborne, who built the Cornhuskers into one of the sport's greatest powers, was hired as interim athletic director. Osborne's task was to evaluate the football program and decide Callahan's future. Callahan was fired the day after Nebraska lost to Colorado 65-51 to finish the season at 5-7. Osborne interviewed LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini in Baton Rouge, La., the following day. Buffalo coach Turner Gill, a former Cornhuskers quarterback and assistant coach, also was interviewed. Osborne also spoke with Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe about the vacancy. The search was quickly narrowed to Pelini and Gill. Grade: B The hire: Pelini has the characteristics Osborne wanted in Nebraska's next coach: he has a background in defense and understands the culture and expectations at Nebraska. Pelini worked one season as the Cornhuskers' defensive coordinator under Frank Solich and was the team's interim coach in the 2003 Alamo Bowl. He worked the last four years as LSU's defensive coordinator and helped lead the Tigers to the Jan. 7 BCS National Championship Game. Grade: C Final analysis: Osborne might have worried too much about hiring a coach with Nebraska ties. A program like Nebraska should have been able to lure a proven head coach. Overall grade: C+ I don't agree with them, but then again, I never agree with ESPN.
  4. Yea, I'm surprised Davidson's catch didn't make it, particularly considering it enabled us to win a national title. Also, had we gone on to win the title that year, I think Crouch's catch vs. OU in 2001 is an incredible play. But still, it's tough to bitch and moan when there are only 100 plays in the history of all of sports to pick from. Having three of them isn't so bad when you think about it that way.
  5. He is, at best, a special teams player who might get some reps at safety if he can make the adjustment. Too small for an NFL backer, thats for sure. Oh, and it helps if you can tackle. That might come back to haunt him. Still, best of luck to him.
  6. A brief interview, but Bo once again said all the right things. Mentioned the tradition going back to Devaney, through Osborne, and SOLICH too. And he obviously isn't thinking about a 7 or 8 win season next year. He expects to kick some ass.
  7. Rome to Nebraska fans: Dont tell me with your schedule, with the games you have at home, that you don't think you can't contend next year. "
  8. "I'm not talking about rebuilding, I'm talking about going in and winning right now." "I think that we'll be significantly better next year.........I think that getting the guys to trust the defensive system will be the key, and I think with the offense, Watson will put his flavor into it and they'll do great" "There's an air of excitement around the program, and I think the state is excited, and we're gonna go and get ready to win some football games."
  9. "I'm not concerned about what happened here the past couple years, but I do know where we want to go and how we want to get there, and that's by building upon the tradition that has been established here" Well said Bo. I'm going to try to keep up as much as I can.
  10. I've watched this countdown progress, and my stomach turns with each new guy being listed, because I know somehow the greatest pure option quarterback in college football history is going to be screwed off the list. I don't see how you can compose this list and not have him in the top 10. I don't even think I'm being biased here, I think that if you know anything about college football, you should be able to realize the impact Frazier had in every game he played. Simply asinine.
  11. He'll get his shot at being Nebraska's DC in 5-7 years when TG takes over for Pelini as HC. Can all Gill loyalists please suck it up and not bitch and moan until Bo has a couple of seasons under his belt? He's hired, he's T.O.'s guy, so get used to it. Otherwise, go root for Buffalo.
  12. Love the Iowa idea, but I have to agree with melscott here. You don't want to come out of the non-conference slate completely burned out and beaten up. Go for one marquee matchup (Va Tech/USC), one against a low-tier top 25 team, then get lowly D-1 programs (not 1-AA) to run up the score and get some momentum.
  13. I'm surprised Thenarse has been able to hold his tongue this long. Watching the guys in front of him tackle like a Pop Warner team has to have chapped his ass the past couple of years. Here's to hoping he comes out with something to prove in '08.
  14. Fantastic post, thanks for the pep talk. Hopefully someday soon we can meet you guys in a BCS game and tell the media to shove it up their *ss. I've always respected the tradition Alabama has, and am actually planning a road trip to one of their home games just to take in the culture behind SEC football. Anyways, thanks again for the post.
  15. I really hope that we at least get 70,000. That might seem unrealistic, but if we find a coach who can rally the fans, we could have a situation like Alabama had last year where everybody came out to support the new regime. We won't get 92,000 like they did, but I think more than anything, fans just want to believe again and feel some optimism. The spring game gives us a chance to rally those feelings.
  16. Wow !!!! You nailed it. I will never forget the look on Mannings' face when Woodson was announced. The Heisman has been a sham for several years and is based on ESPN and the Eastern Press popularity I may be wrong (I was only 13 or so at the time, so who knows how good my memory of that season is), but I think that Woodson did deserve the Heisman. His penchant for game-breaking plays and his excellence at cornerback merited his selection I thought. His team's national title? Not so much. Plus, I might be saying this because I couldn't stand Peyton when he was at UT. Hell, I couldn't stand him with the Colts either. That is, until his landbreaking performance on Saturday Night Live. Check it out: Simply Classic
  17. Mine was against CU in 2004, which means I was witness to the end of our bowl streak........fun stuff...........*sigh*
  18. Callahan was a "proven" head coach. That's gone really well thus far. Oh, wait......
  19. This, along with "B******" suggestions, is one of the most repetitive and ultimately pointless topics brought up on this board. As Georgia showed, black jerseys look badass, but none of the old-timers are ever gonna allow that to happen, they'll get their Depends all up in a bunch, so lets just let the idea go.
  20. Obviously this thread was in jest, but still, his heartless and cold, calculating ways don't translate to the college game. I don't see Bill getting along with 18 and 19 year olds very well.
  21. Even if we have to pull the Mark Richt scenario, I'd be fine with it as long as we got Bo. That being said, I know Bo wouldn't do that to his LSU team. Should be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
  22. Great topic. I couldn't agree more, which is why I think this is such an enticing coaching offer. Obviously our facilities are second to none, but any coach contemplating NU has to look at the talent and think, "I can step in and win right away." I'm not too worried about next year, I'm confident with the right hire we can turn around relatively quickly.
  23. In terms of commitment to the team, maybe, but that might be the extent of it. Brooke, despite playing in an option offense, was more of a pocket passer, whereas Ganz is obviously extremely adept at doing some sprint-out work and running the ball. I think he's faster than Brooke, but obviously Berringer wasn't a slouch either if he was running the option. So obviously I'm going back and forth and can't come to a definitive comparison. But in terms of selflessness and commitment to the team, I think they are similar.
  24. aaaaaaaaaannd I'm an idiot. totally should have checked the schedule..............disregard everything, i'm a moron. well, except the fact that ESPN sucks. That comment still stands.
