  1. Sounds like as much of a USC lock as you can get. From CA anyway and is hard to begin with to get people out of there. Brother went to USC and brother in law went to USC and was a freakin stud. Doesnt look like much of a shot for us here.
  2. So who are we all recruiting still? For a while I thought we were just recruiting Patin, Peters, and Amie. Those were our main targets. I guess I am just looking for some legit possibilities that we could possibly be looking at.
  3. David Harvey- DE Clayton Seivers- OLB rush end Jordan Picou- Center Zach Potter- DE Prince Amukamara- CB Ty Steinkuhler-DE Travis Lewis -WILL Eric Hagg-CB Joseph Townsend-DE Roy Helu-S Zach Bowman-CB Mike Smith-DE LaTravis Washington-S Ben Martin-DE Ricky Thenarse-CB would make a good S too. Anthony West-CB Corey McKeon-MIKE Phillip Dillard-SAM Lance Brandenburgh-MIKE, SAm Bo Ruud-WILL AND Beau Davis
  4. While this is his fourth year here, the first year he got three two star guys in jordan adams, beau davis, and joey ganz. Im not saying that stars mean everything but you cant say he hasnt done a good job developing them, bc sometimes they just dont have enough talent. I personally think he has done a great job with Ganz. He did wonders with Taylor. He increased his knowledge of the game in huge amounts, and developed his mechanics. Beck just wasnt mature enough to take over a team especially an offense that requires what Callahans does. I think if he would have stuck with the team this year there is no doubt he would have been the starter from day one next year and even this spring. That is taking for granted that he calmed down a little bit and waited his turn, thats not callahans fault. He inherited a good quarterback in Keller and we will see next year how he does. As for Witt, and Lee I most definatley think that Callahan will turn one of them into a great quarterback. The least amount of time one of them will have to start is more than likely three years and they will end up breaking all of Taylors records.
  5. I figured they redshirted but I was just wondering how they progressed. (size, strength, coaches reports, ect) Does anyone think they will contribute next year on the defensive side of things?
  6. There is still tom. or are you sure they are done?
  7. Since we were at 31 committments for a while is it possible that we could get all three, Patin, Peters, and Gilleylen? If so that would be a freakin great class.
  8. It was my understanding that we were looking at this guy for a speed receiver to end out our class, since that seems to be one big thing on the coaches list right now. I read on rivals that he will no longer be visiting Nebraska because the coaches called him and told him the position has been filled so there is no longer a spot for him. Does anyone think that they are just going a different direction such as patin or peters or does anyone think that we filled the position with Gilleylan since Anayiam already is committed. Just wanted to bring it everyones attention if it wasnt already known.
  9. I am wondering what happened to Pierre Allen, Ben Martin, and Mike Smith. They have been in the system now for a year and will have a full winter and spring under their belts. Smith is a big guy who is around 6'5 I believe, the same with Allen. I believe they will get a shot as well. I do agree that I think Ty and Townsend will move to DE's and I believe I even saw Ty play there in the cotton bowl which tells me they have already moved him there. I think Crick and Yancy will get a very solid look and crossing my fingers that Jason Peters will be given a shot as well. DE: Potter/ Townsend DT: Suh/ Barfield/ DT: Johnson/ Dixon/ Jensen DE: Turner/ Ty
  10. Nevermind I got my answer, Travis Lewis is now listed as a four star along with William Yancy. That is now 12 four stars and the possiblity of some others like Washington, Stafford, and Barfield. If that happens 15 four stars would be damn fine with me.
  11. So what is the deal with the four stars? When are they done giving them out? I really thought guys like Travis Lewis, Prince, Crick and Yancy to all receiver four stars as well. Then there were always the possibilities of guys like Washington and Stafford to receiver four stars. I am also very surprised that Paul didnt receive five.
  12. I agree with the post. I have done the same thing many times. Ill put in a post saying that shanle isnt good and things along that nature and all the sudden people are saying how he plays hard and he should be out there. I think Swift does have things to offer along with peterson- right now. In my opinion with the way things are going neither one of them would see the field if they were coming in as freshmen in 3-5 years. They just dont have the speed, strength or quickness as the receivers we are bringing in. I do think Swift is better than peterson. I agree, I am not saying they arent good people or havent contributed bc they have, but we really do have better athletes than those two. Im not sure how anyone can say that without peterson we wouldnt have won the a&m game. The ball hit him in the hands and he caught the ball. Good job, nobody ever said he cant catch. I would like to think that any one of our receivers could catch a ball with nobody around them that hit them directly in the hands. Look for Brooks, Holt and Henry to take over for those two- I hope anyway.
  13. Yes he is still solid to NU. There is an aritcle on rivals about how he was upset with himself for even going on the trip, and how he is solid, his mom and coach loves nebraska as well. Great news, had me nervous for a minute.
  14. Its not just conditioning, its lifting, speed camp type stuff, its getting bigger faster and stronger. If you lift to hard and strain what you have already injured it would mean you cant do spring ball either.
  15. I think that it is going to hurt them. I heard Mendoza ran the third fastest forty time in winter conditioning. Im not saying that he is going to take them out but him and Castille are gonna push for playing time. Glenn is a power back and in my opinion as far as game plans his direct competition is Castille. If Callahan wants to pound it out then he is going to want to put a big back in there like he did at Iowa St. It appears on film that Castille has more talent than Glenn, but Glenn has more experience. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I think as far as Wilson he has all the physical tools he just needs to learn the offense, blocking schemes and hold onto the ball. He has Luckys speed in Glenns body, what more could you ask for? I really think Lucky will be the solid number one next year. He made vast improvements this year from last and he is only going to get stronger faster and more knowledge of the offense. This really helps Mendoza since he may get more reps in spring practice if they are still not 100%.
  16. How in the world can you say that Callahan isnt recruiting the best high school players in the nation. So Lucky wasnt a top recruit, Beck, Suh, Leon Jackson, Chris Brooks, we went after players such as Tayor Mays last year but he went to usc. Just bc we dont get all of the players that we go after or more than likely a good majority doesnt mean that we arent going after them. We do and get some of them we just arent to the caliber of the usc's texas floridas or lsu yet, but it is coming.
  17. I dont think that at all. Every team besides maybe USC and Texas look at jucos, and even then they are more than likely looking at them but they end up getting the best high school talent so there is no point. I believe Callahan is looking at the best high school talent available and then jucos are his second and third options. As far as asante he does have three years left so he is almost like a high school player. As far as murillo he is just trying to get some immediate help in a spot we are in desperate need of athletes. As far as the dt's we are taking that is all for depth and maybe some playing time. Right now we have Suh, Steinkuler, Jensen, and "the Beast." To me aside from Suh that is not a lineup that looks very appealing. With the additions of Barfield, Dixon, and Townsend, along with the high school players I feel a lot more confident in the options we have coming in here next year. With lee he is pretty much a high school player as well. That was a ridiculous statement about Cally leaving right soon. He is trying to bring in the best players no matter what, sometimes it doesnt work out that way so he has to go another route.
  18. First of all, I would just like to know where all of you guys saying these things about shanle were when I was making my point that he isnt good on another post. I have watched film on Asante and I said before that he just flies around the field and lays people out. He does have the tendancy to get out of position but he is just trying to make plays and with his speed he can make up for it. As far as Murillo I am just going off what people are saying and looking at what we had last year. I dont guarentee he will start from the beginning next year but if he gets the defense down then I think he has more ability then the other corners we have and will start by at least mid season. I do however think that Grixby and Jones will be a great compliment for a nickel corner or even a solid number two corner. If you look at the jucos this year they were all designed to come in and play right away where we had NO depth. DB's and DT's, along with Lee who has four years to play three. Doesnt Asante have three years to play three as well? He is pretty much just like a top notch high schooler coming here.
  19. I just saw the new rivals came out. Niles Paul went from number 41 or 43 I believe to number 73. I dont understand how that is possible. He made the top ten list of performers against top competition and he drops that far. I was honestly expecting him to jump to five stars. He almost had 1000 yards receiving and 13 td's his senior year also. Sounds like some sort of politic deal to me. I wonder if he would have jumped had he committed to michigan or LSU or USC. The rivals site had a ton of good things to say about him, then they drop him that far, makes no sense.
  20. MadcatNu hit the nail on the head. They were talking about this on 1620. That is probably why he looked so much better as a freshman and sophmore and then looked not so good as a junior. He was in position most every time. I think he still plays a lot next year whether it is as a number two rotating in or as a nickel back. I think Asante will start becasue he is a freak, he will be here in the spring so he will have about 6 months to pick up on the defense, and there is absolutely nobody besides him to fill the position that was formerly held by all american shanle. As for Murillo, I am not sure that he will start, but if he is as good as everyone is saying then I think he will start. He is also here for the spring, has great speed and good size. It all depends on if he can pick up the defense too. Jones looked pretty good at times last year though. Cornerback is a toss up, which is a good thing. Bowman, Jones, Grixby, Murillo and Thenarse could all be fighting for starting positions or playing time.
  21. I do think that Rudd has too much experience and game knowledge for him not to play. Now I have been on the bandwagon also so saying that Rudd cant hit and things like that. However, remember when Octo was healthy in fall camp and he was still neck and neck with him. I agree that there must be something the coaches are seeing that we arent. I just cant see him sitting the bench and certainly not moving to SLB. I think the rotation will be: WLB: Octavain, Rudd MLB: Mceon, Brandenburgh SLB: Dillard, Brandenburgh
  22. I dont think rudd is terrible, I think octavian is more athletic and if he can stay healthy then I think he would be a much better linebacker than rudd is. I have heard he is a terrible practice player which may be hurting him a lot. What I was getting at was mainly about wide receiver since there seems to be a log jam there. I think that Holt, Brooks, Paul, and Henry are more talented (faster, bigger, stronger, jump higher) than people like peterson, or swift. I think that if they prove themselves in practice and they show they know the offense just as good as the other person it shouldnt matter how long they have been here. I dont think if somone is obviously better but doesnt hustle as much the more athletic person should play. As long as he is performing on the field and isnt a distraction its all about winning. Would I rather have a person have both? Yes, but I would rather have someone who is more athletic who gets the job done than someone who screws up but hustles right back up to make a tackle 15 yards down the field.
  23. I am sick of hearing people say why would we bench this player? He gives maximum effort every play, or he plays sooo hard every play. If it was only about effort there would have never been a "Rudy" because he would have been playing all the time sucking and he would be remembered as a terrible player instead of a legend. The best player should play no matter what. If two players are equal then I say the player with the most heart and determination should get the nod. I dont care how long youve been somewhere, if a freshman is better than a senior the freshman should play, no questions asked. I have had questions about this in the past, but I think they will come through next year and play the clear cut best people. I think that will be Purify, Nunn (yes I said it), Holt, Brooks, and Hardy in certain plays (hes too damn fast to keep him off the field, swing plays or something like that). I think Octavian, Mceon, and Dillard at SLB will be the LB's. I think the secondary will be Green, Asante, Bowmann, Murillo, and Jones, Grixby and Thenarse also getting playing time. The post above me was just before mine, I totally agree with it by the way.
  24. I think the biggest reason glenn and wilson didnt get a lot of playing time this year is bc they were such terrible blockers and wilson just couldnt hold onto the ball. I will admit I have wanted Lucky to start since the day he got here, he is so highly touted and I just want him to do well. BJax earned my respect throughout the season. He has he ability to take it to the house, is a better inside runner, a good blocker and pass catcher. I think the only thing that lucky doesnt have that Bjax did was the ability to break tackles. It seems like Lucky almost dives into the ground sometimes. I wish he had the determination to just not go down, like Adrian Peterson or even Cody Glenn. I think we will not miss a beat next year, bc we have so much talent and depth. We will have another power runner even if Glenn does get hurt, we will have another all purpose back even if Lucky does get hurt. I also agree that Lucky will have a breakout season and I also saw a HUGE difference this year from last year.
  25. I agree that Paul is a great talent, and maybe he will contribute a lot next season, maybe he will contribute some and maybe he will redshirt. I dont think anyone can say that if he doesnt do this by mid season something is wrong with the coaches. Look at marlon lucky, everyone thought he would come in and start right away, but it took him a lot more time to get used to the college speed than anyone thought. With the people we have coming back I dont think its a stretch to see him used on special teams and a certain plays down near the red zone. With all the depth and young talent coming back it just depends on how fast he learns the offense.
