  1. Haha yes I'm sure they are trying, what relevance is that? And yes he did score but he got tackled near the end zone when the guy ran him down to do so. I guess he could have let up but then I question why he didn't run his fastest till the end. according to max preps he ran 70 times for 329 yards in 09' and only got 20 carries in a game once and had 16 receptions for 379 yards. He had his 99 yard kickoff return for a td against ralston where he ran 9 times for 36 yards, caught 2 passes for 24 yards had 2 total tackles and that lone kickoff return. Most top notch athletes in nebraska high school play both ways so that's a bogus excuse for the guy.
  2. Ya I'm not impressed either. Like I said last year when we were discussing Evans, at the class B level in Nebraska a division 1 quality recruit should be dominating against the competition and it appears from his highlights that not even close to the case. Now I guess it could be that his team is just not that good, but there are several other division 1 talented players that dominate even thought their team sucks. The last highlight he had on the kick return he got ran down from behind by a guy that appeared to be at least 10-15 pounds heavier than him, and speed is supposed to be his big asset.
  3. I think the northeast part of the country has some real talented players that sometimes fly relatively under the radar. Guys like DJ Woods and Swigert from last year weren't really highly recruited but will turn out to be quality college receivers. I really think we can get some good additions that Ohio State for whatever reason doesn't want.
  4. I really don't even consider Mckeon a husker. The guy showed absolutely no heart and IMO he was one of the main guys that was pouting causing really, really bad locker room morale. The guy's a disgrace to everything that husker football stands for.
  5. This to me again points to Gilmore not being very good IMO. He was a mature player who was probably our second fastest with good hands but bc he didn't block as well as some others he rarely got to play until his senior year, then he got hurt. Until Gilmore learns to put his playmakers on the field, somewhere, somehow, this offense will not reach it's top notch.
  6. I also think it's funny how for the past 6 years people have consistently bashed pretty much the entire big ten. Whether it was saying Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the national championship or Iowa is overrated or Penn St. is overrated and so on. Now all of the sudden we hear talk about us joining the big ten and it's this great conference. I would prefer to stay in the big 12 just bc this is where our roots are and it's a huge risk moving to a completely different conference. At least when the big 12 was formed we still had our entire conference from the big 8 stay put. It's exciting and scary at the same time.
  7. a 6'6 peso back? I really doubt it. The closest thing we have to that is Fisher at 6'5 and he's far from someone like Hagg or Cassidy or possibly David if that's the position he starts at. This kid is a sure fire lock to be a DE IMO, if he indeed can't catch that is.
  8. If this does happen does anyone think that Bo's contract will get revised to not allow him to skip out to Ohio State since we'll be in the same conference? If this is going to happen I hope TO has thought out every scenario possible. This one decision will shape NU football for the rest of time pretty much. I'm also curious as to how this would change our approach on recruiting. Texas has so much talent and we have really good relationships there but I wonder if they will still want to come to NU if we don't play any games there. We also do a lot of recruiting from California and pretty much the only team in the big ten that did a good job of recruiting cali was Michigan when Carr was there, but not really a lot anymore.
  9. Straight from Bo? What side of the Pelini camp?
  10. Ya it's pretty frustrating. Put A&M in a "normal" state for recruits they wouldn't even be in contention for a quarter of the recruits they are and have been. In the last 8 they have gone 6-7, 4-8, 7-6, 9-4, 5-6, 7-5, 4-8 and 6-6 for an average record of 6-6. In the last 8 years recruiting by rivals they've been ranked 17th, 22nd, 16th, 43rd, 26th, 8th, 13th and 10th. Any other location and they'd be lucky to finish in the top 50 recruiting classes.
  11. There's a massive difference between Gomes redshirting and the alternative being Thorell or West compared to David redshirting and the alternative being Hagg. The swap of Thorell for Gomes, IMO, translated to at least one extra win last year. I understand Pelini doesn't recruit a lot of Jucos and the ones that he does recruit end up being at a position of need so they play right away. With that said, Kinnie and Gomes were obviously an upgrade to what we had in their positions before them. That isn't necessarily the situation with David and I really think that he has the luxury to redshirt, the other two did not.
  12. Well then that's freakin great news. I would hate to see pelini waste his first year by inserting him five or so games into the season. With Hagg being a senior and having the linebackers already in the system for at least two years I would love to see him redshirt and take over Hagg's position for the next two years, let Harvey Jackson redshirt and sit behind David for two years and take that over as a junior and start for two years. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but IMO that situation would be ideal. Unless we get some other athletic stud that can come in compete w/ David for the peso position right away.
  13. Cody Green did a lot better than Taylor Martinez? Like I said I was at the spring game and both played pretty well but to say it like it's fact that Green played better is confusing. Martinez: 9 rushes for 60 yards and 5-9 passing for 79 yards 2 td's and one int that was tipped. Green: 5 rushes for 19 yards, 7-15 passing for 155 yards with 1 td and 0 int's. Green for sure should have had one more td passing though. Like I said in my first post, Green is ahead of Martinez in the passing game but Martinez really has only had one spring to learn our offenses system and progressions, Green has had an entire year now, so i expect him to be ahead.
  14. I read an article and it said that David has 3 to play 2 so I'm not sure what to believe.
  15. I was at the game as well and I came away pretty impressed w/ Martinez actually. He is a much better passer than I thought he was going to be. Not to say that he's extremely accurate but w/ his running ability he's still a pretty good passer. To me, even though it was a spring game, it was his first spring game and he seems to have a little more composure than Green. I guess you could say he has "it" a little more than Green. I do think that Green is ahead of him in the passing game as far as going through progressions, which I think Green really improved on from last year. I really think that our O-Line is going to be much, much better than last year. Qvale is freakin huge and seems to have really good feet for his size. Throw in Hardrick and I think we have something really nice forming. Paul really, really impressed me as well. He had two catches in particular that he had to make a full turn adjustment on about a 40 yard pass and game down with the ball. As far as younger players, Zimmerer had a few good runs. He runs really hard and had one trap play I believe go for about ten yards and even put some punishment on one attempted tackler. Rome also stood out later in the game and at one point I think he had three tackles in a row. Hyland absolutely impressed me. He's obviously not a game breaker but can certainly pose some match up problems w/ his size and he seems to have really good hands. Whaley also has stepped up his game. When he hits someone, they usually don't go anywhere except backwards. Has anyone heard about any of the recruits that were at the game? In particular Green or Williams?
  16. I really think that if all four of them want to commit the staff takes all of them. We have to capitalize on the momentum we have right now and since DT's are so rare and seem to be even harder for us to get we have to take them when we can get them. It's also possible that one or two of them contribute as true frosh and the other two or three redshirt and essentially become a part of the next years class.
  17. I was referring to the time we spent in dime last year was probably somewhere around 35% and I assume will be close to the same next year. That would be 2 safeties, 1 LB, 1 hybrid, 3 corners and 4 DL. I know it might not sound reasonable to have a hybrid in in the dime but Hagg will for sure be in and I'd assume that David would also be in if he assumes the hybrid position.
  18. Ok I say we relax about Green. He's a quarterback for the Cornhuskers, would anyone on here not take advantage of that with the ladies? Also it's spring time so he has five more months to progress before he plays a real game. He's also still probably only 18 years old. Now if he doesn't make any progress by the time fall camp is done then I would be a little disappointed but I'm not even close to throwing in the towel.
  19. I'm sure its somewhere in this thread, but does anyone know whether David can redshirt this year? With Hagg gone after this year he would seem like a prime candidate to take over the peso position after Hagg leaves. With his talent you have to have him on the field as much as possible, I think, the same goes for Compton and/or Martin and it'd be a shame for two of them to be standing on the sidelines in dime formations along with Fisher and Whaley.
  20. Does it sounds like our recruiting from last season? Yes it does, but if we can pull in the athletes that we did last year I'd be happy. I don't know if other coaches are outworking us seeing as how we have about 20 high school seniors coming to our spring game and have had two unofficial visitors to practice in the last three days. I'd say it has more to do with us being in a very good position w/ Aaron Green and maybe someone else that only the coaches know about. Sure it would be nice to get another athlete like Standard but if we get Green along with Burkhead, Tray, Heard, Okafor, and Ward all on schollie. That makes 6 RB's on schollie w/ nobody graduating the year after. I know we have a stacked secondary this year but I really think we need to address the true corner position this year a little more. In the past we have gotten Andrew Green and Middleton two years ago and Mitchell and Evans last year. Seeing as how we are going to have at least three corners aside from the hybrid position on the field at least 35% of the time we are going to need at least 5 corners that can play at a high level. It's possible that after this year we lose Prince, Dennard (early) and Hagg. We need some top flight corners in this years class in a big way IMO.
  21. Harvey Jackson comes to mind first when thinking of someone that can fill Hagg's position.
  22. Well I hope Wats proves me wrong like he proved his doubters wrong.
  23. Ya I understand I don't know .0001% or less of what the worst coach on NU's staff knows. But I would really like to know how a team like Cinci or Oregon can have such explosive offenses when the talent is pretty comparable. I'm not trying to pretend I know the x's and o's of our offense or any other one but when I see Oregon running 3 or 4 different types of options or Cinci having guys that weren't offered by hardly anyone blowing up it just makes me wonder why NU can't at least try to run something like that. When I see Lee run the zone read and triple option time after time after time and getting one yard at a time it doesn't take a genius to realize it's not going to work. Just things like that that make me wonder. Now after years of not having a lot of speed on the field it gets released that a guy who hardly played runs a 4.39? Amazing.
  24. I agree 100%. However, I think creativity from a coach can make average speed look outstanding. We have several players w/ outstanding speed who aren't even getting a chance. I was asking alll year for the wildcat, halfback pass, jet sweep..something, anything to make the defense scared. Instead we run up the middle 90% of the time. I understand that was the gameplan halfway through the year, but in the Texas game why not run a trick play? All we needed was one freakin td to win that game and we couldn't pull out all the tricks? All of the sudden we run the wildcat in bowl game and, surprise!!! it works!! They said they had that in during the season but they couldn't run it. What? Why can't you run the wildcat? Are they saying that nobody else on the team aside from Burkhead can run the wildcat? Nexus, my point is not to say that Bell, Mendoza, or Brooks are an every down impact player like a Dez Bryant or Joe Mcknight or Shipley. But when you watch Oregon or hell even Cinci you see players stepping up w/ a big run or a big return or something. Why not give our guys w/ speed those chances? We just didn't put our guys in positions to succeed. Running jailbreak screens to freakin Meno Holt, running the option w Lee when he's proven time and time again that he can't run it well. Bring Green in and make him a drop back passer. Like I said I just don't have a lot of confidence in the O coaches at this point and hopefully they prove me wrong bc if they can we'll make a run at the NC this coming year.
