  1. I am starting to sound like the amen corner for 'skersfan'. I agree with everything above. I would like to add that I think the average SC fan is also "shallow" about their team. Thats why I like this board, Husker fans are much better informed. I like that plan you have on attending FUCLA games dressed in Nebraska red! Fight On! Go Big Red!
  2. I would like to verify 'skersfan's insight into the Trojan Family. I don't have a clue about NU coaches changes. See, 'skersfan' knows what he is talking about. What would you know Trojan. Eh? I suspect, as a Trojan fan, he knows quite a bit about SC, including how many coaches have left the program over the last few years... I appologize TarheelTrojan I thought that was aimed at me. My bad. No offense taken.

  4. yep, your right....its dead. This is what happens when you go to the mega 12 team conferences. In my opinion the OU-NU was bigger than any conference. I always watched that game. I anticipated that game. I talked about that game afterwards. It was every year. You marked it on the calendar. It was football excellence against football excellence. It was one of only a handful of big national college games. USC-Notre Dame another. (although the Domers aren't that good anymore). No, that game had national interest and impact. I loved it. Now it is dead. Not what it used be. You still have a chance to play each other in a championship game, but thats it. A great football tradition has died. R.I.P.
  5. You two Robs could play good Rob/bad Rob if some punk USC fan started posting smack.
  6. This is the kind of stuff that separates Nebraska fans from others. More of my fellow North Carolinians will get to see this great side of the Husker community. Fight On!
  7. I keep forgetting that about pro sports in Nebraska. Sorry. Besides I am not a pro sports guy, so to me the SC-FUCLA game or the OU-Nebraska game is big.
  8. Thats really cool. I won't ask how you "acquired" it.
  9. When you first said this I agreed. But upon reflection, I disagree. Rivalry means playing the other guy for who he is and not what for he has done. UCLA's upset of us this year would never have happened if it was based on "taking care of business". Our upsets of them in the past would not have happened if it was based on "taking care of business" Here locally in b-ball the Duke-Carolina rivalry wouldn't be what it is if it was based on "taking care of business". No. Rivalry means pinning your ears back and going after that other guy at all costs. Anything less is some level of championship game, not rivalry. I liked the rivalries of the old Big-8, the old Pac-8, the old SWC, and the old ACC (R.I.P) ... but in my observation the OU-NU game was and is bigger on a national scale than the battle for "LA". If OU and NU played every year it would be good for football on a national level. My observations gOU Big Red Ahh...something we can agree on 100%! First, the battle for "LA"isn't even on that level. Last month the LA times asked fans their favorite teams. The Dodgers were #1, and Lakers #2. SC was third and FUCLA fifth. It really has limited, but intense, interest. On the other hand, the OU and NU game is two states, with two long traditions which has traditionally brought widespread national interest.

  11. I know I am an outsider about a lot of Big 12 rivalry stuff, but is it true Oklahoma football players think the "N" on the Husker's helmet stands for "knowledge"?
  12. I forgot what Devaney sounded like. Didn't he sound like Al Pachino in "Scent of Women" when he gave that speech at the end of the movie about what it meant to be a Baird Man? It was amazing to hear this. Yes, excellence is about just inches. Lombardi said, "Winning isn't everything, but the effort is takes to win is."
  13. As an "outsider" (USC Trojan) I find this site to be the best. You have found the heart of Husker football. Guys know their stuff. Welcome! You will love it.
  14. Great analogy NU would be a total misfit in the Big Ten. They are rust belt East Coast bias. No way. People here in the ACC have not digested Boston College coming into the ACC. The ACC is good ole boys, NASCAR, etc, and prim and proper Boston just does not fit despite them having a decent athletic program. No way would Nebraska fit in the Big Ten. No way.
  15. Yeah. That was what I was trying to say. Thanks for explaining me better than I can.
  16. You're right. It was a close game. I just added that as hyperbole to see if anyone was reading carefully and you were. Good observation. Truth is, I don't know is Mizzu collapsed at the end, or Oregon State asserted itself. If was a nail biter, not my deliberate exaggerated characterization. I just wanted to add a little heat to the post.
  17. Every year one of the other teams is supposed to step up and they never do, Dwarfs? Dwarfs? Two of those "dwarfs" (Cal & Oregon State) beat the crap out of two of the Big 12's best teams (Mizzu and A&M) last year in nothing but smack mouth football. The Pac 10 provided the smack and the Big 12 provided the mouth! We did play you guys and we "stepped up" and you didn't except for walking into one of our roundhouses. Apparently the Pac 10 "dwarfs" would be giants in the weak northern division of the Big 12. I want even mention the USC game (oops I did) if you won't mention the Oregon game. (That one little play cost Ok the game and the other 59 min. of Duck domination had nothing to do with it? Perhaps it was the noise at Autzen stadium (that just slipped out) Plus you ASSume that had the OKs gotten the ball they would have scored) Could have, should have would have... The bottom line, you lost. Now you try to belittle your victors. If they are "dwarfs" then what are you? All our games against the Big 12 went on the "W" side of the ledger, yours went the other way. Dwarfs. What a laugh. You spend too much time watching Disney. Watch football outside of your own back yard.
  18. I agree. I have found JGS30 to be a class guy, unlike some of the responses I have heard. He made the posting asking your input because be didn't know. He was asking for help from the people who should know, not ridicule. Remember what Will Rogers said, "We are all ignorant, just on different subjects" Ignorance means lack of knowledge, not being stupid. By that definition I am ignorant about Husker football. Thats why I am here, to learn, and maybe throw in another perspective. Overwhelmingly you guys have been great to me, but sometimes some of you can get so narrow and provincial. Thats not the great Nebraska tradition I have heard of.
  19. I ignored this the first time I saw it, but I just can't tolerate poor diction(The use, choice, and arrangement of words and modes of expression). The correct word is "razed" (as in "to tear down, demolish") not "raised' (as in "to lift up") That "condom" thing we welcome because we know it puts us close to where we want to be! Are we still buddies? Gah, curse you Google and your inferior word search! As an English major I'm ashamed of myself. I typed it in that way and got about six thousand results so I assumed it was okay––but I knew, somewhere deep inside, that it was misspelled. But fear not, it shall be spelled correctly here and forever. As much as light can fellowship with darkness, the beloved elect Huskers with the Condoms outside the city in Gehenna, we are buddies. We can even get best friends forever rings if you like. And USC must be RAZED to the ground. I love it, buddy!

  21. I hope your assessment is more accurate than mine. Admittedly, my experience is limited and based on one high profile game. Perhaps it was the emotion of not winning a NC in over 30 years. I'll not close the book on my opinion of them now. But, I still want them to lose!
  22. Texas! Before the 2005 championship game I had no experience with Texas fans. Now that I have had many of them introduce themselves to me, I have not found one with any class. Besides, "Hook 'em Horns", what kind of grammar is that?
  23. Good observation. Eureka is only about 80 miles to the border. (I say border instead of state line because its a whole new world in Oregon!) They make all the fruits, flakes, and nuts in California look normal.
