  1. This doesn't have to be mean spirited. Bo Pelini is a fine human being who did a decent enough job taking over a program that had hit rock bottom. I thank him for his efforts––I believe he gave it everything he had––and wish him well wherever he ends up next. I wish his replacement all the best and sincerely hope he can get this program back to competing for our conference and the national championship.
  2. The program is moving on. Thanks to Bo for taking us from Callahan to a more stable place. I wish his replacement all the best taking this program to the next level.

  3. Pelini fired. Credit where credit is due, Sock.
  4. Sean Callahan announced it, too.
  5. Is this for real? I checked the tweet, and sure enough, it's there. Now where's the confirmation?
  6. This is bullsh#t, Sipple, and you know it. Bo Pelini's future has been a serious topic of discussion for at least a year. It resurfaced when our offense was stymied for most of the MSU game, reached a fever pitch when Pelini's defense ritualistically imploded in Madison, and continued unabated as we were forced to settle for third in the league after Minnesota bullied us off our own field. How can you read this nonsense without getting a headache? How does Sipple even write it? He can't be this ignorant. He can't. The victory over Iowa, a 7-5 team with one of the softest schedules in the nation, preserved our sacred place as the third best team in the B1G West. It's truly inspiring. I'm glad that one comeback win over a total mediocrity is enough to convince you to stand idle as the program you're employed to cover continues its gravitation toward that same level of mediocrity. Excuse me, you're right, that's not fair. Iowa has won the conference under Ferentz and made a BCS game in the last five years. Sipple also has one of the stranger methods of argument I've ever encountered. He essentially makes the point that if Pelini & Co. had preformed any worse than they did, his critics would have an even stronger case. No sh#t, Sipple. 1. You mean it's where Bo Pelini could have helped matters, by hiring competent staff and fielding a team that didn't self-destruct with penalties, turnovers, and fundamental errors week after week, season after season, despite the total support of the athletic department to field said team. 2. You mean aside from: Sipple, you're talking out both sides of your mouth. Bo Pelini is on record as saying he has already received everything he asked for program-wise. They have done everything that can be expected. You're argument is a perversion of the idea that talent level is the main problem. Minnesota and Iowa can keep within striking distance of Wisconsin, but Nebraska can't because it lacks the talent because it lacks internal support from Eichorst. Your argument is a house of cards resting on nothing. And we've seen roughly the same every year, with a clear downward trend after the last of Callahan's recruits moved on. There's no more sleeve to roll up. Fortunately Bo has you to fetch the lemonade if he works up a sweat tweaking. I love the swipe at LJS readers wedged in there at the end. Who edits this crap? At this point Sipple doesn't even know who or what he's arguing about anymore. I sort of get it. Can anyone imagine an assessment of our program more devoid of context or facts? The guy doesn't know if he's coming or going on any of it. A truly baffling piece of writing. This is Nebraska we're talking about, a program that has come to nothing but stagnation, embarrassment, and irrelevance under Pelini. The man's had seven years to right the ship. The idea that the resources of the football program or the dwindling interest of the fanbase should be squandered on this staff is simply ridiculous.
  7. Sipple has lost his mind.

It's quite literally hilarious Sipple is taken seriously by anyone.

Good god. That is such a ridiculous argument. 9-3 seasons here and there are fine. If you won a few games that matter and maybe, you know, win the conference once.

It was in reference to the "column" Landlord posted in the main thread.

  8. The only thing I gleaned from today's rumor stew is that everyone who posts them fundamentally disagrees with everyone else, and there is a blanket of silence over the press and the administration. Doesn't inspire much confidence in any predictions.
  9. Minnesota football.

  10. Way to go GA Tech!

  11. Not if you're dealing with pros. Coaching changes are the worst kept secrets in sports. Someone always leaks it. Our AD is routinely compared to a groundhog. This might be an exception. It also might not be. Time will tell, and very soon at that.
  12. It's Saturday afternoon. If Monday noon comes around and there's nothing more concrete and no word from the AD's office, we'll have compiled a lot of unpleasant information. That this thread turned out to be click-bait would, in those circumstances, be the least of our worries. After last seasons Iowa game, Ive learned to take the people who claim to be "insiders" words with a grain of salt. This sock puppet guy needs an alias for his alias. Just in case hes wrong, his real alias wont lose credibility. The only person I trusted with inside information on this board was skers. His information was usually correct 60-70% of the time. But he is not here at the moment, so I guess we have to deal with the sock puppet and hedley... I learned my lesson back in the day, and have very little confidence in anyone claiming "insider" status (I think very few people know anyone high enough up the chain to speak with any kind of certainty). However, "By their fruits you shall know them." If the dude turns out to be plugged into the right sources, the facts will establish it. If not, they won't. He did us a favor by self-imposing a very reasonable timetable on his credibility. I respect that.
  13. Dont worry, Im not. I knew u were full of sh#t when you said Harbough was a top choice. And now the presser moved from today til tom. And then if not tom, the next day. And then if not the next day, the next day and so on... Tick tock. I dont know what this is alluding to, but Im not saying there wont be a press conference. But you dont have to act like youre some kind of "insider" to make predictions like this. First he said it would be today, now he says tom. Hell, I could say the same thing and tell all you I got it from someone "in the know" I mean the clock is running on this not-a-source's value to the Huskerboard community. But like Hedley said, these situations are fluid, involve a lot of people with sway, and depend (possibly) on factors outside of anyone's control. And to be fair, the guy did say on the last page: It's Saturday afternoon. If Monday noon comes around and there's nothing more concrete and no word from the AD's office, we'll have compiled a lot of unpleasant information. That this thread turned out to be click-bait would, in those circumstances, be the least of our worries.

  15. +1 I hope that's how they see it, because it's exactly how it is. It's outrageous to expect hardworking people to pay money––or worse, spend their time––on this product. Supporting the status quo is not an option. If Bo hadn't already blown his coordinator hires, he would have an out here. Unfortunately he's given no indication that he's able or willing to seriously examine the staff or his philosophy, or make intelligent choices when the chance comes around, so that's most likely a dead end. That leaves one option.
  16. Is that due to an irrational fanbase, or that words no longer carry weight with the fanbase given the track record? A combination of both. I'm in a weird place where I can see the rationality of all sides here. Barney's right - this is an accomplishment and it's not the worst thing in the world. But those who want his head are right - the bumblery which led us to this particular place cannot go on. The levels of wrong are heavily nuanced. I agree, except the #9wins crowd is downright superstitious about the number and how they use it. The team played just as poorly for most of the game yesterday as they have for the past four seasons. If we are truly down to "it's not the worst thing in the world" thinking, we're already entering Apathyville. And that's a problem. The bolded part, to me, is synonymous with coaching change. It doesn't make any sense to expect the same cast of characters to fix systemic problems that go on year after year, regardless of who's playing or how talented they are. Nine wins is better than eight, and a lot better than seven. But in our specific situation, it's not the real issue, and shouldn't be elevated to the Trump Card status it's perceived to have.

  18. Watched Same McKewon's breakdown video following the game. What in the hell is wrong with the Nebraska press? The amount of emphasis they put on a comeback victory over 7-5 Iowa is about to burst a blood vessel in my head.

I enjoyed it plenty. Then I put it in perspective and returned to the obvious: the game should have no impact whatsoever on what happens with this staff.

Probably a bunch of pussyfooting from people afraid to ask the hard hitting questions.

  19. I've defended Sipple and can sort of empathize with the guy, but this column is just silly. He starts off by saying you won't hear much Bo speculation from him; the discussion "gets old." Yet a few paragraphs later he does return to it. He brings it up again further down. Pelini's future is the single biggest issue facing Nebraska athletics. Period. There's a decision to be made and the athletic director has not made it. But the discussion is old? After the last game of the regular season? Right when most schools would announce the new direction the program is about to take should there be one? It gets worse. We're not in the chase. Or the hunt. We're not anywhere close. Our top conference rival has blown us off the field the last two times we played them, we drop winnable games every year, and a team can't plan on making a living being down 24-7 with five minutes left in the third quarter. After seven years of Pelini, we finished in the middle of the B1G West standings. Why wasn't that part included? And why in God's name are you so enamored with a player saying the team had its best week of practice? Shouldn't it cause you alarm? You watched the game, right? We were a comedy of errors yet again. There's no snark in saying it. I'm happy we won, but for Sipple to sit there and pretend like this was some great achievement is belittling to the program and his readers. Iowa loses games like this all the time in exactly this fashion. I picked them to win, then they turned the ball over four times in the first half and blew a gargantuan third-quarter lead at home. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a rally/overtime victory. But to gush over it and swallow the "we had our best week of practice line" (what the hell is Davie supposed to say under the circumstances?) is beneath you.
