  1. Oh wow...that reminded me of last year when I was Bo Pelini for Halloween and I was pretty smashed and before going to a party and everyone was still psyched over the Mizzou win and everyone wanted a "pre-party locker room speech" and I said "Let's have some fun and party with PASSION. The most physical ass partyers. That's what gonna make this night great. The people who finish their drinks. RIGHT THERE, RIGHT THERE! ON THE SPOT! That's what drinking is all about. So let's take these drinks, pour em right into our mouths, FOR FOUR PARTIES AND GET AFTER SOMEBODY'S ASS!" It woulda been funnier if you would have made that speech dressed as a giraffe instead of as Coach Bo. random springboard: it would be hard to hit a giraffe right underneath the chin Good point

  3. I always loved that quote. My HS football coaches used to say the same exact thing (except they just said use the helmet and not use the "N").
  4. Mid-November. Wow. I would have assumed much earlier. I mean, we get games down here during that part of the season that are that cold. Interesting. It depends on the year. The Plains has varying weather. Like right now, this week in Nebraska we're getting cold and snow. Other years it could be 80 degrees. It could be 30 degrees in the third week of October, or 75 degrees the third week of November. Last year was a prime example of Indian Summer. We had 50-60 degree, maybe once in awhile 70 all the way through mid-November. Then, all of a sudden there is snow on the ground. I guess that's true. There really is no place...

  6. I personally always prefer night games in other stadiums that I have attended, but have never been further north to a game than Knoxville. When during the season does it usually start to get pretty unreasonably cold (20-30 degrees)for night games (7PM central start) by, say, halftime at Memorial?
  7. I've rewatched the entire season the last couple weeks. The only time Taylor was shown sitting by himself alone, was when he was hurt, or not playing in that game. As for getting in people's faces, someone posted in another thread that Taylor did just that, and some older players got butthurt about it. So... So if you don't get to play or if you're too hurt to play, you are suppoused to pout about the situation by yourself? Definitely saw him standing by himself, not talking to anyone numerous times during the season. Definitely have seen him act like a jerk during interviews (not socially awkward, not nervous, just like a jerk). I don't like his apparent attitude and I don't think he is that cool of a guy. That being said, I would like for him to perform well. I would like for him to heal up. I would not like for him to get hurt again. I would like for him to develop as a player and leader (I'm not buying the whole "I was a leader last year, just because you guys (the media) said I wasn't...I was" deal). I would like for him to prove my observations about him to be incorrect. The point is, it is possible to not like someone, but still hope they perform well/not wish ill will on them. You can still be a fan of the team without being a fan of every individual player's apparent personality traits. I doubt TM really cares what I think about him anyways. Please link to the interviews where Taylor acted like a jerk. Also, standing on the sidelines is not pouting. If it is, then Green was pouting most of the season because he was on the sidelines. The last 30 seconds of this are really lame. Also, I like that you leave out the most important phrase (by himself, not talking to anyone) from the bolded portion of your post. Either don't try so hard or try harder.

  9. You're trying to talk about what was in Taylor's head. We have as much real evidence that Martinez has thought about leaving the program as we do that Rex Burkhead has thought about leaving the program. There's only hearsay, all of which has turned out to be wrong. So why would you turn around and say, "well, maybe part of it was true?" I don't think that Taylor is a "model Husker," whatever the hell that is, and I don't idolize athletes. People who do are just asking to get disappointed. I am however going to step up to defend a kid who played hurt for his team when people accuse him of not being a team player and of leaving the team when there isn't a shred of evidence to back that up. There are people on this board who don't like how Taylor plays, and there are people on this board who don't like Taylor. The first one is fine, the second one is pathetic. Why? Aren't people allowed to make their own decisions on whether or not they like or dislike someone? Sure. But ripping them anonymously on a message board behind their back for personal reasons is cowardly and pathetic. These kids are student-athletes, give them some space. So where do we draw the line of "ripping" on people for personal reasons? Do we have to actually" know" them? Does it have to be verbal? Do they have to be a certain age first? Have you never ripped anyone in your life? I have never understood the the whole "they're just kids" argument. Why is it ok to play these kids up, hype them up, give tremendous praise and accolade during the recruiting stages or when they have great games, but when they start to act/perform less than admirably, we have to take it easy....because they're student-athletes? If they're old enough/mature for the positive spotlight they should be aware/realistic enough to realize that things go both ways.

  11. A lot of the time, especially when you think about the ankle/turf toe stuff and breakout freshman year, think of the similarities between Martinez and . Does anyone else ever think about their similarities? I mean, I hope that they don't share a similar fate, but everytime I hear something about Martinez, I always feel like it comes back to that foot. I hope that it actually gets a chance to mend this summer and that the coaches don't keep pushing for a quick recovery.
  12. Nebraska needs to look long and hard at offering these three guys. They could be "steals". Har de har! http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/041811/bre_816489281.shtml

  13. Unless a lot of those 43k were dressed as empty seats, Georgia came nowhere close to that number. I would say it was closer to 30 or 35k. Guess it really is hard to tell when tickets are free.
  14. Haha, in all honesty, Herbstreit doesn't make too bad of an announcer. Had he not done the whole '95 Huskers thing, I don't think there would be nearly as much hate for him around here. No. I pretty much thought he sucked long before that.
  15. I just printed this picture out and gave it to one of my building's custodial workers. He looked at me like I was Santa Clause.

Spiderman messed with my girlfriend. Spiderman wrapped his arms around her with my bedroom door closed. Suddenly I opened the bedroom door on Spiderman's sneaky ass. I caught him kissing my girlfriend and beat him to a pulp with a rubber hose.

  16. We were pretty well prepared to, but couldn't get enough people in agreement. Our main goal is to make as many people aware of the situation as possible. We're working on creating an art installation (we are artists after all) on the streets of downtown Lincoln, writing arguments for the importance of art ed, getting statements from faculty and trying to contact local news outlets. Several of us were ready to charge down over the stadium, but others were of the opinion that the spring game would be populated by out-of-towners who wouldn't really care about the UNL budget cuts :/ The goings on of the state's flagship institution should be of concern to all of the state's residents, at least I would think so. Also, out-of-towners can provide a signature . I just think the more awareness that you can drum up in a short period of time, the more your cause will benefit. Then again, it is pretty easy for me to make suggestions from a thousand miles away!
  17. To tell you the truth, you do have little time to organize, but you might not get another chance to speak out to such a large number of people. If I was y'all and as passionate as you seem to be, I would be putting those petitions and signs together as we speak. On game day, get up bright and early and go from tailgate to tailgate explaining the situation and getting signatures.
  18. It is possible that this is a political play. Pearlman says at the top that he is "proposing" the cuts; have they actually been made/approved yet? Last year when the Georgia General Assembley submitted their proposal to cut a certain amount of funding from the University System of Georiga's budget, every state university president came up with a detailed list of exactly what they "intended" to cut, detailing the impact that each cut would have. It was made to look like a major bloodletting and the strategy was to incite the public and put the onus on the state legislators to pull the trigger. President Adams released an e-mail very similar to the one cited above. After much outrage, cuts were made, but were nowhere close to what the original proposals were. I'm not sure if this is a similar situation, but things may not end up being as bad as he is proposing.
  19. You obviously never watched/payed any attention to baseball. Let me fill you in, sometimes it takes kids who are between the ages of 19-22 three years to break into the Majors. All the while, when they are playing triple a or double a they are still making really good money. http://96.0.98.5/Bas...ayer/11381.html 30k isn't horrible, but I think I'd rather go to college/pursue something else. The odds found in the link below make it seem like actually making it to the majors are VERY low. http://www.diamondfa...rs-peltier.html So, if your child was making a living doing something they loved and have always wanted to do, you would tell them if they didn't make it to the majors that they should move on? There are plenty of players that never make it to the majors, but if they enjoy playing the game for a living then it doesn't matter to them. If my kid wanted to do something that they loved, by all means do it, but I would prefer that it be in a career that A. Has a longer average span than just under 6 years B. Is over when they decide to leave vs. being over when they "can't do it" anymore.

All the while, when they are playing triple a or double a they are still making really good money. Shhhh you might hurt his feelings. I hear he watchings The Jersey Shore with his dad as a family tradtion instead of going to a Baseball game. Wow. So my dad and I watch Jersey Shore together, eh? Well being that either one of us alone probably has more “College Degrees” than your entire family, I think that it has served us better than your family’s little baseball endeavors. Ya know, since you seem to put such a high premium on attaining a “College Degree”.

  22. Yea cuz doing the fist pump in a night club is as difficult as hitting a 95 mph fastball. You definitely nailed it. The Jersey Shore cast contributes nothing to society, how do they deserve to even be allowed in America, let alone make a penny? The are everything a human being shouldn't be. I bet if you asked any one of them what 2+2=....they would tell you 3 because that is just how dumb they actually are. I wasn't making that argument and even if I was, what exactly is the ability to hit a 95 mph fastball contributing to society? My point is, the marketplace puts a price on different items, in this case "entertainment" and if it is determined that fist pumping idiot "guidos" should make $100k an episode or an equally tanned, gold glove wearing "guido" should make $33 million per season, well, maybe I should have skipped college and gone to the New Jersey shore or gone to batting practice instead of to the library to study. There are numerous Baseball players that have something that the Jersey Shore crew haven't earned and its called a College Degree. Not only is Baseball the America's pastime but its a great sport to attend to with your family in a friendly atmosphere (unless you're at a Dodgers/Giants game) while enjoying a hotdog, popcorn, etc. Everything on MTV is utter GARBAGE. MTV creating shows like the Jersey Shore or 16 and Pregnant among others are basically telling/encouraging society that its ok for you to be pregnant at 16 or talking like a bunch of retards that lack more than 5 words in their vocabulary while dressing like douchebags and sl#ts Ok, first, why is "College Degree" capitalized? Also, what is the America? Is that, like, the Iraq? The point you attempt to make about the importance of education as it relates to this issue is a very bad one in that you are essentially saying that the baseball players are more valuable or, for lack of a more fitting term, "better" than the JS crew because they have a college degree. So the guy who bought his "College Degree" from the University of Phoenix has a leg up on Bill Gates (college dropout)? On top of that, your argument doesn't hold much weight due to the fact that at least 1 of 8 original cast members did graduate college and has a "College Degree" (Vinnie) making the percentage of the JS cast with a "College Degree" exactly 12.5% or roughly half the percentage of the general American population (28%) according to 2005 numbers . In contrast, only 42 of the 750 Major League Baseball players have a "College Degree" (5.6%) according to 2004 numbers . So basically, your point about baseball players and education is worthless. Just worthless. The rest of your argument is similar to what others have said/complained about. Yeah, It really is kinda depressing to think that one can make $100k an episode for acting like an idiot, being drunk, getting into fights, and "smushing" (much more than the average teacher makes a year to educate the nation's youth) but the market has determined that a demand exists for these individuals to do what they do so they are compensated accordingly. You speak about people bonding over baseball and how great of an atmosphere it is, but a lot of people, myself included, don't like to go to baseball games. My dad and I bonded over watching televised football games together, lifting weights/running together, and doing yard work together. Should groundskeepers be paid millions of dollars because a father and son bond over doing a similar activity in a great, wholesome environment? Sure, if the market dictates that….but it doesn't. Burying your head in the sand and being upset that millions and millions of people around the world would rather watch Jersey Shore (thus legitimizing the cast members' respective salaries) than engage in the elusively defined "productive activities" is childish. Everyone has different interests and the market will dictate which interests are considered a premium whether they be Jersey Shore "actor", professional athlete, medical doctor, or drug lord. That brings up another question. When you have children, what would you rather have them doing? Acting like a complete retard on television, or being a pro baseball player? What I would want for my children is completely irrelevant to the matter at hand. What one person wants for their kids isn't going to change how much Snooki or A-Rod gets paid. To humor you, though, I actually don't plan on having kids, being that I hate them and the whole concept of "wholesomeness" but if I did, I would prefer that they go to a decent (preferably Southern) university, pick a major that they are interested in, and then pursue a career that is most in line with their interests. I would prefer this path over a the two options that you have listed. I like how you present the options with the implication that pro baseball players are never "complete retards on television" or in any other facet of their lives. That being said, I would prefer having a child who does something that they want to do in life and does it with a sense of integrity over having a pro baseball playing kid in the mold of Doc Gooden or a Mel Hall. If my kid was on Jersey Shore being a drunk, but not committing any crimes, I would prefer that over a baseball playing kid that did And if the kid was stuck in the minors for more than about three years, I'd advise him to move on with his life.
