  1. NU was in the MNC game with Solich in 2002. This is 8 years later, things have not changed, Solich could not recruit!
  2. USC, Bama, VaTech... all run the I-formation with FBs. The zone blocking is the same, only the OL physical traits are more for pass blocking than drive blocking. The blocking is the same used by Alex Gibbs and the Broncos and Pat Ruel at USC, the plays just differ.
  3. Cotton is the OL coach, Watson tells him what type of guys he want to run his system, big, tall, long guys like the Big 10, not the 6'2"-6'5" guys that are build powerful in the legs that can drive folks. Husker Power emphasized power cleans and leg explosiveness, pass blocking requires long armed, tall guys on the edges with big benches.
  4. even many of the same zone blocking plays, we just don't use FBs very much if at all and do not practice option and read plays enough to make them effective. The type of OL and the use of FBs and more teaching and execution of various options would be simple. The only thing is that power-I/option ball is not Watson's thing. check out this link, because we do run the same formations and many of the same base plays like inside and outside zone... Husker formations
  5. Why didn't it take that long for G-Tech to do it and they came off a losing record? Many of the kids that can't start because they are to short or their arms are not long enough would fit the interior and remember its the I-formation base with the option mixed in from multiple sets/formations, which would include zone read and spread sets just like before. More emphasis on not losing yards, holding onto the ball and teaching QBs to audible to the best plays vs certain fronts.
  6. Solich could not recruit I-backs or QBs w/o Osborne. Crouch came in with Newcombe. Lord was Solich's QB.
  7. He could not recruit the QBs or I-backs for the offense.
  8. The STUPIDEST and DUMBEST post/reply ever on this board! I guess Miami, Washington, Florida, FSU, KSU, VaTech and Tennessee all had SLOW and LUMBERING defenses? GaTech has beaten Miami, Georgia, VaTech, FSU and UNC in their first two years in the system, I guess their defenses are all to SLOW to defend the option!!! Definitely a FAKE Big Red Fan!
  9. Georgia, VaTech, FSU, Miami have all lost to the Jackets, are they all slow defenses? Washington Huskies, Miami, FSU, KSU all had fast defenses and so did Florida back in the 90s as did VaTech and Tennessee and they all lost to NU, so this faster defenses is BS! These defenses have went to a 3-3-5 to stop the pass, but that set and to small DEs would be crushed vs the 90s teams. Washing and NU both basically ran nickel defenses. Remember NU switched from a 5-2 to their nickel defense as the full time defense, with the WIL basically being and extra Rover.
  10. What good team did NU beat last year, like UT, Tech or OU? The WC offense did not work!
  11. TT and GaTech are not national powers with hype. If GaTech was squeaking by folks they would not be in the top 3 like UT. UT is OVER-RATED and only stays high because of tradition from the 60s and having a huge population and media markets. Tech doesn't get the 4/5 star QBs or WRs, nor do they get that on defense, so when they beat UT, UT should be ashamed. Check out GaTech's OL, they have 1 300 guy and 1 6'5" guy, the rest are 6'3" and in the 250-270 range. By the way the 6'5" 300 lb person is one guy!!!
  12. I live in Austin and graduated from UT. He does not schedule tough non league games, his team has 1 conference title, yet he is in the top school in the #1 state for D1 talent? How did he allow OU to score 63 and 65 points on his team? Why does Stoops have 6 Big 12 titles in 9 seasons to his 1 in 24? Why hasn't he played for more than 1 BCS title, while Stoops at age 49 has played in 4? Mack Brown sits in the lap of luxury. UT should be USC (7 straight conference titles and 7 straight BCS games and only 1 loss in them) but Brown's accomplishments are not even close to USC. The Big 12 is not a strong league. When OU won in 2000, NU, KSU, UT and OU were all strong and ranked in the top 10. There are not 4 top 10 caliber teams in this league and last year's teams could not have beaten those 2000 teams, all of which had great defenses, save for UT. How are you a nation championship contender when you have only reached a title game ONCE? GET REAL!!! UT is like bragging on the millionaire's kids because they are the best dressed and have the nicest home and car. What NU and OU accomplish is great coaching, having 5 and 7 MNCs compared to UT's 3.5. UT has everything going for them and yet have not produced results equal to their resources and hype.
  13. Washington and Green can run the option from the I. NU would not run GA Tech's offense and their QB was recruited to be a LB. Some of the WRs or DBs were probably option QBs in HS, so that would be easy to do.
  14. This team loves the Ace (2TEs and 2WRs plus I-back). The base plays for the 90s offense from that set were dive, trap, counter trap, counter sweep, speed option, outside and counter sweep pass along with various PAs and boots off of the runs. Option and read plays force defenses to play certain coverages and that is how you get big plays in the running and passing game. What TO did with the run, Leach does with the passing game. Tech has new WRs/OL and a slinger QB ready to step in every fall despite graduation losses. Most Texas kids wanna play for UT or ATM or the Oklahoma schools, but Leach still gets his kids and his recruiting is getting better with every win over an NU, a UT and a Sooner squad.
  15. Brown has 1 conference title in 24 years and when OU was down and out he can only win by a FG vs a freshman QB and a bad FG kicker. How the heck did Stoops score 63 and 65 on UT under Brown? OU played lights out defense vs a supposedly great UT offense. That defense would have won the game with a healthy Bradford and Gresham. #50 for OU was 265 lb TE playing LG!!! Mack Brown is a JOKE!!!
  16. Well the option basically shrinks the field and therefore it is designed to be effective from inside the 10. The WC spreads the field and therefore it is not as effective when the receivers do not have room to operate. A good running game will cure that though. Ran the wishbone for a 5A power here in Austin in the 80s and the option is the best GL play ever! Defenses can't just shoot gaps or you will just walk in and if they are not aggressive enough you cab just blast in. The offense takes DISCIPLINE and SERIOUS EXECUTION!
  17. Where is the offense, that averages 40 plus a game, rushes for 250 and passes for 200 and can dominate the LOS?
  18. All three played great defense. Tech was very physical in their win vs VaTech and their OL is very small at the tackles, less than 270 and they have only one 6'5" 300 lb OL, yet they dominate and score in the redzone. Solich needs to go to Army, he is the perfect HC for a service academy, where his HORRIBLE recruiting will not be a detriment.
  19. How many TDs? Spread QBs have high percentages on screens and short passes, where are the scores, the points? QBs are supposed to lead the offense to points.
  20. Very good post!!! That is strange that those two positions play HORRIBLE in Big games!!!
  21. The defense played well enough to beat Tech, if the offense would have showed up. This Tech team had a wounded DL vs UT, they went with a 3 man front and they had a different QB.
  22. I-backs, FBs and a few OL and kickers. NU was system team, just like Texas Tech! Tech is a passing version of the NU teams, save w/o the great defense and Leach takes to many risks on 4th down. Tech has a good walk on program and he plugs guys in and keeps on chugging along. THE SYSTEM! We used to POUND NFL prep schools big time, like UCLA, Tennessee, UW... Looked like those non-blue chip OL didn't have much trouble scoring in the redzone.
  23. Brenham runs the spread, his HS team. What does that have to do with anything? He never was an I-formation RB and is kinda to tall.
  24. Brenham runs the spread, his HS team.
  25. They are not gonna win the north. 3 straight losses next week.
