  1. Agreed....what a dumba$$ call... I am sure he froze a lot of linebackers and dbs For me, it was when our own linemen stripped the ball from Martinez. And as someone else mentioned, watching their 3 man rush pancake our entire offensive line and Helu.
  2. So under Watson/Callahan we were a west coast offense. Last year we attempted to be a zone read offense, but found out we had a QB not capable of running the zone read, then tried to be a power running offense. This year we found our zone read qb, lit up the scoreboards then abandoned it for a power running game when he got injured. Mixed in with an air assault game vs. oklahoma st. Considering Taylor was finally healthy again, I expected to see us in the shotgun running zone reads and play action passes, yet we opened up under center with power running. Then we went to the wildcat offense. What exactly, other than inept, pathetic and lousy, would you call our offensive style? If someone were to ask you what nebraska's offensive game plan was, what our "style" was, what would you say? I'm at a loss for what it is we're even trying to do on offense at this point. Depending from week to week how healthy our qb is, we will either be a zone read, shotgun air assault, power running or wildcat offense?
  3. Haha I was sitting a few rows behind that whole thing. Im not to sure what to think of that. I'm pretty sure I know what I think of that.
  4. Sorry if it's already been posted, I didn't see it. And watched what happened during the Volleyball game.. The coaches met to shake hands at the net, but quickly, a verbal exchange began that threatened to turn physical. Assistant coaches and tournament officials stepped in to separate Washington coach Jim McLaughlin from Nebraska's John Cook as Cook walked to the locker room. "All I said, and you can quote me, is ‘The ball was out. Nice match,' and then he (McLaughlin) started going off with language that would probably not be approved by the NCAA," Cook said after the match. So, the Huskies volleyball coach almost got in a fist fight with the Nebraska volleyball coach a couple weeks before the bowl game. Great. No need to use words to pump up this football team, just show them the video and tell them to go get some payback.. Sorry Huskies, this could get ugly.
  5. If you were looking for a new job, would you quit doing your current one? If you did, you'd better be darn sure you get a new job, because you will have burned your bridges with your current employer. I don't think he's leaving, mind you. Everything I'm reading now says he's sending a message and or, simply wanted to hear his old friend out. But, even if he was leaving I would expect to see him going full speed ahead with this one until the minute it was a done deal that he was going to Miami.
  6. I think it's funny some blow hards keeps showing up to reprimand those who have posted on this thread. Yes, it's 8 pages (congrats on your counting abilities). Yes, it is just rumor and gossip at this point. But it's rumor and gossip being speculated on by everyone from ESPN, to the omaha world herald. It's being talked about from coast to coast on sports radio and college football shows. But, how dare a bunch of Husker fans discuss it on a husker message board where 90% of the topics consist of fans responding to articles and news surrounding the team. Shocking behavior by us all indeed.
  7. One paper reports it as Tom said no permission, others report it as the world herald " Pelini and NU Athletic Director Tom Osborne declined to respond to a published report that the University of Miami has been granted permission to talk to Pelini about its open head coaching job." So, as you say, which is it? The way I read it all coming down was, initially Osborne hadn't been asked permission so he denied the claims, but since has been asked permission and now won't comment on it. I've also read elsewhere (from miami) that he has been granted permission. So, it's left up to the reader. he has, hasn't or no comment.. Whichever you chose to believe. But for anyone not in the know to claim they do know at this point is silly. Any of the 3 can be true.
  8. Yes, you have my word. The next time Bo or any person related to the huskers said that a bunch of dudes talking on huskerboard.com was adding fuel to the fire, or in any way suggests members on huskerboard had anything to do with a decision a head coach made to leave or stay, I'll stop talking about it on here. Until then, I will continue to consider it my right to discuss husker news be it gossip or not, with fellow husker fans on this board. It is after all what I believe these boards are made for. Is that all right with you?
  9. Out of curiosity, you're not implying that Miami is "big time" and Nebraska isn't, are you? Because Nebraska is one of the very pillars of college football, one of the ten greatest teams of all time. Miami is no slouch, for sure, but Miami is not Nebraska. Not close. No, I'm not at all saying Miami is a "big time" school and Nebraska isn't.. I'm saying he wouldn't leave Nebraska and go to, say, Purdue or something.. But, imo, if another "big time" school such as ours were to offer him the job, and he felt he could go there and be the head coach, without the other stuff that comes from being the head coach at Nebraska, I've always felt he would take it. Some coaches would rather have all that comes along with being the head coach here. I just don't feel Bo is that guy.
  10. Have to disagree. It's a free country and Bo is allowed to take any job he chooses to. If he honestly feel it is best for him and his family to be at Miami, god speed. People need to get over this insane devotion to coaches. Unless they are Nebraskan, alma mater, or born and raised, they feel about our program the way we feel about Michigan, Miami and all the others. They have no reason to be loyal to us. This is a business for them and we are his current employer. Nothing more. And don't for a second think it doesn't work both ways. Or have you forgot the Callahan getting shoved out the door by the fan base just a few years ago? Callahan didn't preach integrity or loyalty as far as I ever heard. He was all about winning and doing it the glitzy, glamorous way like they do in SoCal. Bo preaches loyalty, character, and devotion to his kids. He says he will do anything for them and he cited this numerous times during the reprimand for his actions at aTm. Therefore, I expect him to live up to what he says in that regard. I think you're reading too much into "coaches speak"... Unless you believe Pelini will never, ever leave Nebraska, it should be accepted that eventually he will recruit some kid while talking about loyalty and integrity and then leave that kid. Wether that is today or in 20 years. Anything less than a retirement, means he will leave some kids and the fans dissapointed and feeling betrayed. I agree mostly, but you have to admit there's a big difference between leaving after being here 10 years and being here 3, right before we transition into a new conference. You don't bail at a time like this. Yeah, I hear what you're saying.. I just have felt for awhile now that Bo would jump at the first big time program that offered him a job. So I guess I'm not as upset as others. IMO, being a coach at Nebraska means you have to be much more than a football coach. Guys like Dr. Tom, Mac Brown, and such. Those guys are not just football coaches. They are the Kings of their kingdoms. They enjoy all that comes with being the central focus of a football crazed fan base where every win or loss is life and death to their community. Pelini is a football coach. He wants to be a football coach and that's it. He has made comments before about wishing "Nebraska wasn't the only game in town". He doesn't like being the central focus of this entire state imo. I think he'd love to go to a place like Miami where he can coach in the National spotlight on Saturday and slip into obscurity on Sunday.

  13. Dan, you never insulted me by tellling me you'd call me in the morning. You were genuine like that. You did your duty, handed me a kleenex and left.
  14. T-tragic was a mess. Freshman or not. Imo we are in the exact same position we were last year at this time. Needing to find a qb. Tragic's only real skill is his speed, which seems to be negated rather easily vs. athletic defenses. He has no ability to manage a game. Can't hang onto the football and is unable to even find 2nd options much less 3rd and 4th options... I'm not completely wanting to give up on him. But at the very least, that position needs to be up for grabs again come this spring. T-Ragic would have been funnier. I don't blame him-- I think he should have been pulled out, but I don't blame him at all. I think his ankles and feet were probably bound to the point of immobility. I mean, think about if you dinged up your left thumb that you use to play Madden with... it would be like that but more. Athletes get used to being able to perform within and to the extremes of their limits, you move those limits, it can have a catastrophic result. The whole system goes out of whack, he now has to think about his abilities because they aren't exactly the same ones that he had at the start of hte season or during high school or whatever. When all you have (or are defined by) your mobility and suddenly one ankle is taped up nearly cast-like and the other foot... well, I don't know what they do for turf toe, but it probably sucks too. I wasn't trying to be a smart donkey about the Madden thing, either. I'm sure we've tried to do low-stakes, fairly easy activities like play video games with something as minor as a paper cut on one of our fingers-- it sucks! It throws your game off. I just try to imagine something like that extended to something as major as the lower part of the leg to a runner... that's gotta throw your game way off. The pain screws with concentration, your concentration is even more limited because you have to think about trying to run earlier than your well-trained reflexes are used to telling you to run, and then you're trying to run the game as a freshman. No, I don't blame him at all... that had to be rough. But I do blame the staff for not taking him out when it seemed that he was struggling-- not because he "sucks" or is "clueless" but because it's like he was playing the game with a different skill set and, essentially, in a different body. It had to be frustrating and sending him down a mental spiral. I think he will be great, but that was just really unfortunate circumstances. At what point did his ankles go bad? Vs. S. Dakota st.? Because he was locking on receivers, throwing balls into crowds and generally being roughed up trying to run against them too.. Now you can argue I'm picking out games that fit my arguments and I'll grant you that. But then I ask, what did he show in practice that convinced the coaches he was the best (and apparently only) option for the championship game? Was his injuries so obvious then? Shouldn't they have been if by your argument, he was obviously affected so badly by them? If Taylor practiced at any point like he played in the game, he never would have started. Which tells me it was either not the injuries that caused his performance, or we need to re-evaluate our practices and how we make sure our starting qb is really fit to play a game.

  16. Thank you. You spelled out everything I'm too frustrated and exhausted from this season to say. Hopefully the big ten will be a shot of happyfootballjuice for me. Because honestly, this was the worst season I've ever suffered through.. Even the wins felt dirty because of the league they were played in. The washington game was the highlight of the season. And now, I' can't even enjoy that because we have to play them again.. Ugh..
  17. I love to watch college football. Love to root for my Huskers. But honestly, the goings on of the last couple years has soured me on it all. From the split up of the Huskers and the big 12, and all the drama from :01 to today's bad bowl assignment. To Reggie Bush, Cam Newton and every other scandal surrounding the game.. It's hard enough to worry about the on field stuff. I'm exhausted from caring about all the off field stuff. I've never been glad a season was over before. But I am this year. I need a break and hopefully will regain my spirit next year.
  18. He goes on to say "according to reports the last 24-48 hours, he's going to play a significant amount of time".. He's not reporting breaking news.
  19. Well Said.. Decades of "classy" behavior and we can't get anyone to listen the first time we stop being classy and yell we're being cheated. We gained not one ounce of national respect from our classy behavior. Now everyone is just upset because we are not grinning and bearing it like we're suppossed to.. That's what classy is. Get F'd.. Don't complain, smile and ask if it was good for them too.
  20. And for Omaha Not sure what this last part means. Does anybody know? He is being ironical. As in, there is no glitz or glamour in Omaha Nebraska.
  21. Actually, I have lived in 11 states over my time as a Husker fan.. and knowledgeable college football fans in every state have been really complimentary of the Nebraska way of football. The regard for Osborne and the the way he went about winning and doing so with decorum and class has been appreciated by many non-NU fans. The media, in general all across the nation, holds (or held) the NU way generally very positively until recently. Opponents writers have written countless articles on how well they, their fans, players and coaches were treated by NU and it's fans. Of course, there too has been negative articles all along as well --- everybody gets those. But few, very few, get the positive accolades from their opponents like NU has for decades. So... what I am saying is that the NU program has been regarded as classy by many non-NU fans. Now what has it gotten us, you ask? Seems to be an illicit premise. One is not classy for self-serving gain --- one is classy simply because being classy is simply the right thing to do. The article by this gal from Oklahoma illustrates clearly that she has had (as have many)a deep respect for the NU program. And, she is lamenting --- as a non-NU fan --- that her ability to respect the program has been diminished. It is in this that she is being fair, honest... and at the same time scathing. Scathing in the sense not that she is being mean --- she is actually being kind. It is scathing in that the truth is painful.. for her assessment of how the character of the program is being projected now is very accurate. What was once a program worthy of respect is becoming less so. Again, hopefully it is a blip that in time will go away, reverting back to where it should be ... and not the beginning of a downward trend. only time will tell. I guess we have our beliefs based on our own experiences. I too have lived in numerous states. And no, I haven't heard the "ah, you nebraska fans are classy" nearly as often as I've heard "ah, you nebraska fans like to call yourself classy"... I actually moved to Nebraska as a teenager. I grew up in California and my first game was Tommy's first game when he came in to replace Mike Grant during the game. I remember it because a guy sitting behind me said, loudly, "man, Osborne sure likes black qb's doesn't he?".. The crowd all laughed. That, to a teenage kid from California, was close to the most openly racist thing I'd ever heard said and needless to say, made me roll my eyes from there on out every time I heard about the classiest fans on earth.. Hey, I'm a husker fan. I love the team. But our fan base isn't "better" than everyone else. We're loyal and passionate. And I'm not going to refrain from screaming we've been wronged, when we have been in the name of not losing some silly reputation I don't think is real anyways.. We have some of the most loyal, passionate, rabid, traveling group of fans of any sports team in the world. I'll take that and you can hang your hat on classy.
  22. I think NU has lost what made NU... NU. Um, you do realize, no one other than Nebraska fans ever gave a darn about how "classy" Nebraska fans thought they were, right? Remember in the 90's when we'd all get upset because the National Media didn't give us our due. How ESPN and SI and all the other pundits hated us. Remember when the program fell, they were all too happy to forget about us. Unlike Michigan or Notre Dame, they were happy to ignore us. We were out of their hair. At what point did our "class" help us? I've seen 30 for 30 espn specials on "THE U" and on a Oklahoma who had a coach who was not nearly as classy as Tom, and a player who behaved much like this writer talks about Martinez. Haven't seen one yet about the "class of Nebraska fans." Actually never hear about it outside of Nebraska. Point being. I'm tired of this "class" or "best fans" garbage. They want to hate on us, bring it. Caount me in the I hope Pelini spike's the big 12 trophy crowd.
  23. And, yes, we all know Texas has clout. If the other nine members of the reconfigured Big 12 don't go along, Texas hasn't minded using its power before and could easily reopen talks with the Pac-12 or go independent. Hurry up little children of the big 12. Your daddy Texas is almost home and he's had a tough day at work. Run along now, I'll get his supper warm and clean the house, you get his slippers and brandy ready.. Don't want Daddy getting mad and threatening to leave us again, do we kids?
  24. yeah, but did she gouge his nuts when he was trying to recover a dropped beer can? No, but she did go all "Pelini" on him once when we were over. He'd have thrown a flag too.
