  1. The game is on ABC, so we could have some fun with that: Aloha Bill Callahan just Another Beat down for Callahan Anyone got Bo Pelini's Cell phone number or We miss Gary Barnett
  2. This topic reminds me of one of those really hard "Would you rather..." drinking games. Would you rather... Drink battery acid or get tasered until you pass out? Cheer for KU or Missouri? I going with KU. The entire discussion is pretty pointless when you consider that the team that prevails will eventually lose to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship anyway.
  3. I also thought this might be a possibility, until Callahan started wearing Cleveland Browns team colors to press conferences and on the Coach Callahan show, ignoring TO after the KU game. Get a fork, Callahan is done.
  4. I agree that people shouldn't be vandalizing his house or car, but there is a huge double standard at work here. Coach Cosgrove makes more money than 90% of Nebraska fans doing what any of us would do in a heartbeat if we had the knowledge and the talent to do it. The downside to his position is that if he performs poorly, he is not above being criticized just because you feel that a very small minority of fans has taken it too far. If he wants a job where he can do his job this poorly and not be criticized, he should consider Congress, because aside from that there isn't a job on the planet where you can do a job worse than anyone in the history of the position before you, and not be criticized. As far as putting myself in his shoes, I would hope that if I did my job as poorly as he has, that I would not be given a free pass from criticism as you have suggested. Criticism is what makes us better at whatever we do, and hopefully Coach Cosgrove can take this experience and become a better Coach.
  5. What is your reasoning for thinking KU has the best defense? Just curious. And how exactly is KSU better than Texas? Also, the real test of whether or not Truman is a flamer will come next year when Tigers are back to being mediocre. Will Truman still post crap like this on the board when Mizzou is having a down year? We shall see. The saddest thing for Mizzou fans is that this is the best team you'll ever have and you'll still lose twice to Oklahoma in the best of circumstances. I would probably take the opportunity to post stuff like this, if I knew this was the best my program was capable of.
  6. If only football were so simple. We wouldn't have to worry about recruiting at all. We'll just get the best coach in the universe in here and the rest will take care of itself. Reality is that we have terrible coaching, and that our players have given up. I think some of us don't want to place any blame on the players because they're just kids or because it's not their fault the coaches suck. Reality is that our players are not playing up to their talent level. Most of the kids on our team are such high level athletes that they have never lost 8 games in their lives, let alone in one season. They don't know how to handle this. You can't just put the blame on the coaches (as much as we love to do it here). At some point, we have to start treating these players like the adults that they are and recognize that they are not getting the job done.
  7. I think the only problem with this scenario is that it requires that we win our remaining games. I think we all want to think we can salvage something, but do we really want to see another game with these coaches and prolong our misery? Thanks for the update, but the way we are playing, another game would just be humiliating.
  8. Mizzou fans didn't exactly bring out the welcome wagon in Columbia this year either. We had all the windows knocked out of our car, and as we left the game faced 3 or 4 young guys that wanted to fight us. We've had a bad year with a lot of poor behavior by a few of our fans, but there's a reason that opposing fans brag on how cool we are in Lincoln. We don't have a lot to be proud of this year, but we will always have our sportsmanship.
  9. Neither team had to make a 3rd or 4th down conversion in the entire game. Is that a record? Was Cosgrove the DC for both teams in this game?
  10. I vote for Colorado. Losing the K-state at home would be tough, but not as tough as all my friends that are Beefalo fans emailing me to talk trash.
  11. I think Nebraska has an opportunity to beat KU this weekend, if they continue to improve. It's not like in the past when playing Kansas was a definite win year-in and year-out, but anyone who says we don't have a chance of winning is probably a BluePigeonHawks fan who is still trying to figure out the differences between football and basketball.
  12. I think the current recruiting and rating process for O-linemen favors giants over people who may be smaller, but more athletic. I was reading an article about another Big 12 team (can't remember if it was Colorado or KU), where 4 of the 5 starting O-linemen were recruited as TE. Big guys might do fantastically well in high school against smaller, less athletic guys, but mobility and athleticism are very important attributes in Offensive linemen. Good O-line coaches understand that. For years the Denver Broncos had the smallest O-line in the NFL, but they were in the Top 5 in rushing with 5 different RBs. It's not just how big those guys are and how they are rated out of high school.
  13. There could be some interesting power plays if aTm and NU are interested in some of the same candidates. I think people assume that Pelini is coming here, and that it's a done deal, but he's definitely on aTm's radar. I think we all hope he would choose NU over aTm, but who knows when the money is on the table what will play out.
  14. The is a difference between school pride and hubris. Good luck this weekend. I hope you'll be just as much a contributor to the board when the BluePigeonHawks are a .500 team and playing in the Tampax Insanity Bowl, like they are when they normally have a good year.
  15. Just a few thoughts: 1) I think this sort of thing is positive in the long run, because it's gut check time for fans. True Husker fans will be there on the other side of this. The people that turned on the players will be the first to bail. We're better without them. 2) Whatever coach we end up with will be an improvement from the current regime. If not, we'll be having this conversation again in a few years. I think NU learned a lot from the last hiring search, and I have faith that we'll end up with a great coach. Times are tough now, but the future is very exciting for Nebraska Football.
  16. Anytime a team goes through struggles like we are right now, some of our less dedicated, fairweather fans will jump ship like this guy, and place the blame on everyone else. I think Husker Nation is better without this type of guy who can't handle the hard times. He'll be back in the fold when we start winning again. I'm not defending the actions of the few fans that are getting all the attention for being jerks, but the fans who still bleed Husker red when it's all said and done are the real deal. Not this guy, obviously.
  17. That's not reaching at all. It's a prime example of Callahan's "preparation". Kind of like how he's still "recruiting". As fans, this type of thing is very concerning. Why are you minimizing the fact that our head coach doesn't even know what personnel the other team will be playing?
  18. I'm not into reading between the lines or getting all fired up about subtle things, but I was reading some interviews with our recruits, and I had some interesting observations. Two of our recruits (Kuli and another defensive recruit) have mentioned Bo Pelini's name when asked about the coaching situation at NU. I found it interesting as well that while our recruiting class is falling to pieces, the top defensive JUCO prospect made a solid commitment to us this week (Kuli). Does he know something about who our head coach might be that's more than just the speculation we read on these boards? Or is he drinking the same Kool Aid as the rest of us, and just basing this on what he would like to see happen? If it were the latter, I don't think he would have committed so solidly. LSU was his other top choice. Coincidence? Or does Kuli and a few of our other recruits have information from their conversations with TO about who our primary target really is? GBR
  19. There is no problem with the option (just ask our D about aTm). We need a coach who is not married to one particular offensive philosophy. That's the main reason I don't like Callahan (his inflexibility with the system).
  20. I think the Husker's new coach, Joe Glenn, will choose Zac Lee.
  21. A lot of teams that have depth and an intelligent coaching staff do this, which is why as Nebraska we don't understand it. We have the players, I'll let you complete the inference.
  22. If we hired Major Applewhite as a coach, would Phil Simms donate a million bucks to the athletic department so that Chris Simms could be our coach like he did at Texas? Might help to fund some of the buyouts.
  23. Every team that has beat or at least played with Texas this year has made a habit of putting Colt McCoy on the ground consistently. There were times during last week's game when we got to McGee, and McCoy is a lot less mobile. It will depend on our defense, and when I write that, it makes me realize that our defense hasn't played a full game this season. That scares me.
  24. I don't believe a guy goes from being the head coach at Buffalo to the head coach at Nebraska without doing something fantastic. Buffalo is 3-5 this year, which for Buffalo is a big deal, but Gill needs to show more. Build that program. Win your conference. He hasn't done either of those things. I'm not cheering for Bo either. People like him because he represented the anti-Steve Pedersen and everything that's gone wrong with the program. If you get down to asking people what his qualifications and experience are, they clam up. I am sticking with Joe Glenn from Wyoming. Two Division II National Championships as HC at Northern Colorado. One Division I-AA National Championship at Montana. See a pattern here? Oh yeah, and he grew up in Lincoln as a Husker fan.
  25. It's Ok. He's only a one star coach anyway.
