  1. It's possible he'll be able to pitch the new coach to the recruits by then. I heard Sean Calahan on the radio saying that he's going to specifically talking to in-state kids. Collins Okafor is one that has said he hasn't been contacted since the coaching shake-up and is starting to get concerned. Tonight on Big Red Wrap up they interviewed Okafor. He shared that he had been to Stanford recently and to KU last weekend. KU interviewed him and offered him a scholarship. After the interview Sean Callahan said, 'Wow, that's something we didn't know! That's a concern there.' I'm sure he went back to Husker Illustrated and put that on the old website. When asked how he would feel if Osborne came to his house for a visit he laughed and said, 'It's Coach Osborne! My mom would be brewing up tea/coffee!' For the Nebraska kids this is HUGE that a legend is coming to visit them at their homes! It's probably an even BIGGER deal to their parents! But how awesome is Dr. Tom!! This is why I have no worries as to who our new HC will be. Tom is a coaches coach. He knows what he's looking for. While we don't all agree on who will be chosen I think we pretty much agree that any of the people on the list would be a good hire for Nebraska. (By the way Steve Sipple (LJS) and Mitch Sherman (OWH) both picked Pelini!)
  2. I disagree. (Most humbly and this is not a personal attack on you by any means, just an observation) If this were a board where we were talking facts and statistics I would be right there with you. BUT THIS IS A RUMOR BOARD!! This is THE place where people can do exactly that: Speculate to their hearts desire. Bring in ALL of the rumors they've heard and even make some up just for the fun of it! THIS IS A PLACE TO HAVE SOME FUN!! I mean really! After the four years we've had I think we're entitled. Like you have said yourself, 'AS I SEE OUR NEEDS' Isn't this just speculation on your part? Yes, it is but that's ok. That's what this board is for! So relax, have some fun! You wrote a very intelligent piece here but don't ruin it by insulting the rest of us who just want to be a part of this unfolding drama. We are not ignorant, we are not uninformed and this is not drivel. Speculative yes, drivel no! It's simply what it is...people wanting their OPINIONS heard. GBR!!!
  3. NO BO!! He's never been a head coach. His own LSU fans want him gone. They equate him to Bill Callahan! To me Pelini is a bomb waiting to go off. No thanks! While I'm for Gill I think that we will all be in for a big surprise when they reveal the new coach next week (or end of this week). It will probably be someone like a Jim Grobe or Paul Johnson. We'll see.
  4. This is what they said on WOWT website: A Husker players meeting is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday. Channel 6 News cannot confirm this has anything to do with the search for a new coach, but we do know that AD Tom Osborne contacted LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini Sunday. Big Red Insider Sean Callahan says even the seniors who wrapped up their Husker careers last Friday have been invited to attend. The university says it is a normal post-season team meeting to discuss off-season schedules.
  5. "Finally, current Wake Forest Coach Jim Grobe could also be in the mix. A twin-jet Learjet 45 left Smith-Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem, N.C. at 5:01 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and landed in Atlanta 53 minutes later." The plot thickens!
  6. Most appealing NCAA Football coaching opening? Nebraska 56% Michigan 38% Texas A&M 3% Baylor 2% Arkansas 1% This is exciting because it doesn't limit us to the two candidates that have been named repeatedly on this board (although I am for Turner Gill). While it needs to be a quick decision, I think it will be a well thought out decision as Tom O, being a former coach (and I must say one of the premiere coaches in college football history!) will be able to sit down after all of the interviews and take a look at what would be the best fit for NU.
  7. Read this on WOWT this morning: "Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez's name has been bandied, but he said Sunday he has no interest in a return to coaching. Alvarez, who stepped down as Badgers' coach in 2005, played linebacker at Nebraska in 1965-67. "I've got the job I want right now," Alvarez said." http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/11804396.html So take his name off the 'list'.
  8. WOWT reported this morning that Alvarez is NOT interested in the NU position. He stated that he is happy where he is (AD at Wisconsin)
  9. WOWT stated this morning that Alvarez is NOT interested in the NU job. Barry said he likes where he is and what he's doing (AD for Wisconsin).
  10. If we play competitively then it will take the sting out of any games we lose. Folks on the outside will be encouraged just to see a competitive Nebraska team again. We will have many of the same players that we had this year and frankly, I don't see much difference between what we were playing and what everyone else was playing? WCO?? What was that anyway? Just passing a little more? I for one just want to see some smash mouth football on the defensive side. Our offense can get the job done for the most part. I also want to see the new coaches teach those boys how to tackle and play their positions. If we can make those changes we have a good chance of being pretty good next year. GBR!
  11. I didn't notice that but what I DID notice was that he wasn't calling the game. He spent more time talking than he did calling the game. I hate that. I don't care about some famous person on the sideline! I'm trying to watch the game! I just wish he would do his job if he is a PBP man. If he can't do it, get someone else who can. It's suppose to be a football game not a talk show!
  12. LSU fans don't care. They want Pelini gone! He is like Callahan was to us!! PLEASE NO PELINI!!! Here is what they said about Bo Pelini on their message board-tiger droppings: http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/message...c.asp?p=6161209 (If for some reason you can't get in, here are some of the comments from that board:) "and yall thought Callahan was a flop.....just wait." "No kidding, a D coordinator that gives up 30 points a game, no O experience and on record as not being an recruiter. That is a recipe for disaster when the fastest kid in Nebraska runs a 4.95." "i am free till Monday, can I drive him up there, We can get our hands on some help and help him pack too. I will by his first Nebraska cap, and go ahead and rename it the Pinkshirt Defense, you know soft in all the right places." NO PELINI!!!!!
  13. I was just reading the fan reactions to Bo being contacted by Nebraska. Here is what their fans are saying: http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/message...c.asp?p=6161209 (If for some reason you can't get in, here are some of the comments from that board:) "and yall thought Callahan was a flop.....just wait." "No kidding, a D coordinator that gives up 30 points a game, no O experience and on record as not being an recruiter. That is a recipe for disaster when the fastest kid in Nebraska runs a 4.95." "i am free till Monday, can I drive him up there, We can get our hands on some help and help him pack too. I will by his first Nebraska cap, and go ahead and rename it the Pinkshirt Defense, you know soft in all the right places." **This is really scary stuff. NO PELINI PLEASE!!!!
  14. Has anyone heard from IBR? (I think that was his name?) I was wondering if his predictions came true or is the jury still out?
  15. Turner has been a head coach for two years, was quarterback coach for NU under Solich and the greatest coach in histroy Tom Osborne. He was coaching in Nebraska for three National Championships and playing for another. *Wasn't Turner also the Assistant Head Coach under Frank Solich? I think Turner has much more experience as a head coach than Pelini does. Pelini was head coach for one game for Nebraska. That's it. He has never handled an entire football program. Turner has done so for 2 years and had success in those two years. So in my humble opinion, the opinion that Turner isn't experienced enough when compared to Bo Pelini holds no water.
  16. Whether he was here or not...at Memorial Stadium or not doesn't mean he'll be the next head coach. Osborne said that he had a person looking into who might be interested in coming to NU. He said that person told him that he had 4 or 5 names but Osborne didn't know who those names were. Another wait 'n see.
  17. I think Gill will be the new Head Coach but not because of anything you saw. When Tom asked what qualities he was looking for in the new head coach he didn't say, 'A great defensive mind' or 'Someone who will win games' he said he wanted a man of integrity (Turner), a man who knows football (Turner) a good motivator (Turner). All signs point to Turner Gill. For those of you who think he's not ready consider this: Tom Osborne wasn't ready either but Devaney took him under his wing and mentored him. That is what will happen here. Turner is not going to come into the Head Coach position alone. Osborne will be right behind him helping him to make every decision and always with the teams' best interest at heart. I would much rather have that situation than to bring in someone who could embarrass the university...again.. Sorry but Bo Pelini makes me nervous. He might have a good defensive mind but one thing we've learned from the Callahan fiasco is that we need someone who has a total football mind, not just all offensive, like we had with Billy C. Turner will also bring a ton of healing to a very injured program. THAT is significant. He will bring back that sense of tradition and pride that has made us a great football team. Whoever gets chosen though, I will support. May the best man win!
  18. Sean Callahan of Huskers Illustrated just reported that Bill Callahan has indeed been fired. News conference in 14 minutes!
  19. I'll believe it when I hear it here in Nebraska from Tom Osborne's own mouth. Until then....we wait....
  20. I read this at Huskers illustrated: Osborne set to have press conference on Saturday by Sean Callahan Interim Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne has called a 9:30 a.m. press conference on level six of West Stadium for Saturday morning. Osborne is expected to announce the future of NU head football coach Bill Callahan and his staff at Saturday's press conference
  21. I'm a little nervous here. I have a feeling that we might wake up to find that while the DC and most of his staff is gone, the HC will still be Callahan and his OC staff will still be here. I guess I have some questions. What WAS Callahan hired to do when he came to Nebraska? He was hired to change the system and he did. Did it work? Doesn't look like it but he did do what he was hired to do. Has offense been the problem these past four years? No, it's always been defense it seems although today the offense fell apart after the first mistake with no apparent repair. It's so confusing! I mean, just a year ago we were Big 12 North champions. Do we forget all of that? I doubt I get much sleep tonight! Regardless, Go Big Red. Even though I was born and raised in Missouri, I've now lived in Nebraska longer than I lived in Mo and am as Husker Red as a transplant can get. I've lived through the glory days of the Osborne era and simply want to get back there. My personal hope is that I wake up to headlines that read: New Staff Coming to NU led by Nebraska Great TURNER GILL. One can only hope- GBR! TLS2
  22. The facts are this: If the Huskers were 13-0 or even 10-3 under Callahan this year we would be singing his praises instead of crabbing about him. So the reality is that he simply wasn't a good fit for Nebraska. He had no malicious 'agenda' to come to NU and destroy the program. He simply didn't fit. Nuff said, GBR!!
  23. From this military family to all of Husker Nation, we wish you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving. GO BIG RED, BEAT THE BUFFS! *****AMEN TO THAT!! And thanks to your family for serving our country. Prayers go up to all those who are serving in our Armed Forces. My they spend next year at home with their families. GBR!!!!
  24. Worst case: Things stay the way they are. We give the staff 'one more chance' Best case: Dr. Tom puts the headphones back on and becomes our HC again
  25. The money to take care of Callahan's contract does not come out of the athletic department. There is a foundation set up to take care of Husker football and their pockets run very deep. So keep your change
