  1. Geez...Runzas??? Why don't you just tell the guy you're gonna kill him and get it over with
  2. Take the Nevada game out of your figures and then recalculate...let me know what you come up with. Marlon - turn pro. The NFL needs a Westbrook clone...Nebraska does not.
  3. Another thing about the D-Line that I noticed and liked...they waited for the O-line to get set so they could have time to pick up on whatever keys they were looking for before they set up in their own stances. Interesting to see the Ohio State line down in their stances while Dorsey and crew loomed over them, looking into their backfield for a last second read or to pick out the gaps they wanted to shoot. Maybe they were playing a tendency from the QB or backs...if so, it would indicate some pretty observant scouting and coaching.
  4. Nebraska's Corey McKeon... Huh? Oh...I thought after last year when he failed to show up on defense for most of the season that he still had a year of eligibility left...sorry
  5. I had the same thoughts watching the BCS Championship. Looks like this style of defense stresses excellent man-to-man corner coverage...don't know if NU has the talent at this point. I would assume that the defense will have to be adjusted to the personnel at the beginning.
  6. Until there's a playoff between the best teams of all 50 states to back it up, I say that's crap. When someone can prove to me that the state championship team of California is better than the state championship team of, say, North Dakota or Minnesota, I'll stick with 3-star recruits from the Midwest over 4 or 5 star kids from California or Florida any day...better attitudes and work ethics. Just because the "press" doesn't get to Bismark...or the people there aren't as inclined to flood the net with press releases and hype, doesn't mean the players there aren't as good as the players on the east or west coast...just not as promoted, probably due to the fact that the people from the midwest are not as pretentious as those coastal clowns. --Let me start by saying, worst opinion ever. Bet against CA teams against midwestern teams and you will lose a lot. Are you going to sit there and honestly tell me you would rather take the NoDak high school football team over De La Salle High in Concord CA that did not lose for 6 years? Or Helix High in San Diego when Reggie Bush was RB and Alex Smith was QB? Its well accepted that one of the reasons of USC's dominance is that Carroll was able to reopen the recruiting pipline in his own backyard that other schools were taking from USC. By the way, nothing against the midwestern boys. Certainly there are many many great athletes there. But, numbers and stats do not lie. California has a bigger pool to draw from, creating better competition. If all it took was better attitudes to win over talent, then Illinois could have rallied to victory in the Rose Bowl after that clown did a flip into the end zone. Yep...gonna sit right here and say that exact thing...especially if the two teams go by North Dakota High School academic standards and eligibility rules...which would leave most of De LaSalle and Helix's teams sitting at home watching the game on TV. You can argue your point all day if you want but until there is an actual National High School Championship game, there's no way you can honestly say that California schools produce better football talent than midwestern schools.

  8. It doesn't matter what type of offense that Nebraska runs...they still aren't going to get a second look from top QB recruits. First of all...Nebraska doesn't get enough national TV coverage to support the egos of most of the "top" QB recruits. Think they're going to come to NU to play for local media coverage? Doubt it when they can go to USC or Ohio State to play on National TV every Saturday. Second...history shows that the NFL just doesn't come sniffing around Nebraska when they're looking for a starting QB. Which of Nebraska's past QB's have ever gone on to the NFL to meet with great success? Tagge? Humm? Fraizer? Crouch? Only one I know of was Vince F and he happened to be in the right place at the right time for a great team...all the others either ended up holding a clipboard on the sideline or watching the games from home. What top QB would want to follow in the lines of that? Then you have the other factors to throw in there...weather (why would a precious five-star want to take a chance of jamming a toe on frozen turf when he could be playing in California or Florida), academics (FSU sounds like a place for a great athlete with marginal thinking skills to attend rather than NU), friends and family support ("Texas promised to fly my grandma in for all the home games!") etc, etc, etc.... Run any type of offense you want but run the one that works best and allows you to win. If that means a FB plunge up the middle for 3 yards every damn play...so be it! Find a QB who you think will work with YOUR system and don't worry about running an offense because it gives your players a better shot at the NFL...who cares what they think anyway? Didn't they give us that HCing genius Callahan?
  9. I totally concur....I don't know when the "Look Like Nate Newton" conditioning program was instituted at NU but it ain't working. A little less fat, a lot more muscle and...most importantly...some "off the ball" speed...would go a long way.
  10. I hope it is more than a series here or there --- but significant time in building up a future QB. Does anybody really think NU with Ganz at the helm next year will win the B12 North? I can't imagine it. And we won't with Lee or Witt either --- but our chances the following year (2009) with Lee or Witt go up proportionately with how much Lee of Wit play next year (2008). I would agree with some of the thinking posted here if I thought next years record would be much different with Ganz at the helm than it would be with a young QB. It might be different but I'd doubt much. I'd expect that NU will not beat OU, VTech, Missouri, Kansas, or Colorado next year no matter who plays QB. I'd think we'll be much more competitive with these better teams than we were last year, and likely will not get blown out too often (or as often) --- but it is also doubtful we beat any of them. As for the rest of the schedule, who knows. As people say its a crapshoot. I just hope that the young QB's (or a young QB) get major playing time next season or we are looking down the pike at, at least two rebuilding years in a row. I really think you have it wrong. Your QB has to be THE leader of the offense (regardless of age or experience). He has to inspire faith in the rest of the team that no matter how bad things are going, he is going to lead them to a win. Putting someone in there to get experience for the next year is not going to set well...especially with Seniors who won't HAVE a next year. The players want to win and they want to win NOW...not two or three years down the line. That's like telling someone that if works for you today, you'll let him see you pay someone else for the job you did tomorrow.... Like I said...you start your best and work the younger guys in throughout the season when the opportunity arises so they can build from that for the next year.
  11. Too much over-analyzing here. You start the guy who gives you the best shot at winning, be it Ganz, Lee or whoever. Ganz may be gone the next year but most of the other guys on the team will still be there and if they get used to winning during Ganz's last season, they're going to develop a winning attitutde that's going to carry on to the next year. So, if Ganz is the best you've got, you start Ganz and work the younger guys in for a series here or there throughout the season to get them some real-time experience.
  12. Born and raised in SW Iowa...those Treynor football and basketball teams of the late 70's - early 80's were nasty...Had to been something in the water around there cuz I thought I was a big guy but everybody there seemed to be about 5 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than I was...even the kid's mothers were bigger than I was... I did see in the paper this fall that one of Frain's boys had made some All-Iowa football team. He's lucky all I have is girls or I'd have had to sent my boy down to kick his boy's ass....
  13. The Huskers were always my favorite team all the way from birth till 1980 when that stinking Todd Frain got a full-ride scholarship to NU and all I got was a partial and work study to ISU even though I was an infinitly better player Then I hated the Huskers till around 1985 and Frain graduated...after that, the Huskers became my #1 team once again. The Cyclones still rank a very close second though...even if they did make me work four years scrapping food off plates in the cafeteria. Having close to two decades of experience with disappointment and unmet expectations gained from years of being a Cyclone player and fan, I believe I am in a better position than anyone to help you keep a stiff upper lip and to confront reality during this, Nebraska's darkest hour... No need to thank me.... Sundberg's three TD passes tied a Nebraska bowl record. Two of those scoring tosses went to tight end Todd Frain, tying another NU bowl mark. Huskers must have made the right decisions back then since that 5 years span was almost comparable to the 90's. ....just saying Hardee Har Har.... I'll have you know that in 1983 I stopped Doug Hermann in his tracks....with my head. Told me it was the hardest hit he'd gotten all year. Real funny guy Hermann was.... And yeah...I remember a lot of Orange Bowl games over that span. I watched them all on TV

  15. I don't understand how you got 16-12. 7-7 (2002) 10-3 (2003) = 17-10 Last 2 games of 01 - 0-2 2002 7-7 2003 9-3 Add that together, 16-12. It isn't slander to say Solich's winning percentage in his last 28 games was damn near the same as Callahan's(57% compared to 55%). Frank was nothing more than an interim coach at Nebraska.....there is not great record. If anything, he left a hint of scandle with his alleged affair with the student he supposedly got pregnant. So, what was so great that he needs to be remembered for? I think he was the first Husker ever featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated...Not a lot of guys can claim to have been on the cover of SI but Solich is one who can.
  16. You might not have noticed what with the stars in your eyes and all....but ISU's defense was ranked so much higher last year than Nebraska's D that there was really no comparison...like 46th for ISU to...what...90th for the Huskers? Take off the rose-colored glasses and face reality. There's lots of work that needs to be done here.
  17. During the Florida/Michigan game, the announcers said the name Tebow 12,459 times...I think they would have had sex with him on the field if they could have... Going by what I watched and heard...Florida had one player on the field and Michigan didn't have any players at all. Only Tebow was there...and he won no matter what the scoreboard said. The best way to watch any of these Bowl games is with the TV sound turned down and the radio volume turned up because all the TV homer announcers have sucked thus far....
  18. Oh...you said commas! I thought you said comas and was wondering what Husker defense had to do with anything... My bad...carry on.
  19. Butler Davidson Dayton Drake Jacksonville Morehead State San Diego Valparaiso Nebraska would have killed those whimps in the Pioneer League...plus, if they played their cards right, they would have gotten to take two road trips to California and one to Florida...
  20. Bah...we won't miss any of those silly seniors that are graduating. Meyer...overrated. I mean, just because a guy becomes only the 3rd player in Big 12 history to gain over 10,000 yards in his career doesn't mean he was any good...anyway, we have us a couple of Freshmen and some 2-star recruits at QB (why we plan on signing 4 QB recruits...I have no idea) so we won't even miss Meyer. And what about those other two stiffs on offense. Blythe, the ISU career reception leader? Barksema, the 4 year starter at TE? Big deal...we got us plenty of hot recruits to take their places...any goof can catch a football. Besides...we got rid of ol Barney...pawned him off on some other loser Big 12 team...so the offense is on it's way to the top! On defense...sure, we lost Rubin, a solid NT...but he was too fat. Fat guys shouldn't play football. Costs too much to get equipment for em, and at ISU we're all about saving money. That DT, Braaksma? Who cares...I kept getting him mixed up with our TE, Barksema. Saves announcers and broadcasters a lot of trouble with those two gone. Oh sure, we lose our two starting OLB but Bowen didn't really deserve to be a two-time All-Big 12 second teamer...if he was any good he would have been on the first team, and he wouldn't have nicknamed himself "Ace". The other one, that Banks guy....he wasn't even quite as good as Bowen! If he would have nicknamed himself "Duce" though...then he would have been cool! Ace and Duce at OLB for ISU. We'll replace those two tomato cans with a couple of jokers and we won't even miss those guys. The only other kid graduating is that Berg kid...and he was from Nebraska anyway so he was a basketcase from day 1. Ha...with our huge group of one and two star recruits and incoming group of mediocre or questionable JC talent...it's Champions of the Big 12 North baby! (use your best Vitale imitation there...)
  21. While we're dreaming here, try this one on...Iowa State will be the 2008 version of Kansas and take the Big 12 North. Really! ISU returns 15 starters on offense and defense, including the entire O-Line. Lot's of RSF coming up along with a fairly decent recruiting class (for ISU anyway...lots of big Texas kids)...and the schedule is favorable for once. All the "big" games will be at home. South Dakota State - (H) - Win Kent State - (H) - Win Iowa - (A) - Win - (these guys are going to suck) UNLV - (A) - Win Kansas - (H) - Win - At home, and these guys were a one hit wonder in 2007 Baylor - (A) - Win - Baylor should drop football and stick with...uh...field hockey maybe? Nebraska - (H) - Win - We always win in Ames in years that end in 8 A&M - (H) - Win - Home field advantage gives Cyclones the edge OK State - (A) - Win - Growing confidence against an average opponent Colorado - (A) - Win - It's Colorado, how could it not be a win Missouri - (H) - Win - Snowstorm will slow them down...hopefully K State - (A) - Win - These guys will have quit again by now Then...it's on to the Big 12 Championship and the annual slaughter of the North by Oklahoma. After that...a short trip to the Fiesta Bowl where ISU can be soundly thrashed in front of a nationwide audience! So there you go...12-0, Big 12 North Champions and ranked #1 going into the B12 Championship game. Bwhahahaha!
  22. Don't make me have to go back and crunch the receiving numbers now just to tell you the majority of those yards came against crappy defenses too... As for dumping all over Lucky, I've done the same thing to others who I think underperformed...including "Big Mo", Keller and the entire defense. The only guy who I've missed is the kicker (forget his name) and I think he did pretty darn good!
  23. When I read that backwards I kept seeing "Paul is dead...."
  24. Tell that to Troy Davis...his line put the "offensive" into Offensive Line.
  25. Can't watch any of em because my Direct TV receiver went out about a week ago and the dipsh*t's can't come fix it till January 9th On a bright note though...the satellite dish made a swell sled for my kids once I ripped the damn thing off the side of the house...very aerodynamic
