  1. I was lucky enough to attend a presentation by Mr. Epley this weeked. It was about 3 hours worth of strength and conditioning. This guys lives and breathes Nebraska Football. His presentation was such an eye opener but many high school coaches wanted to protest. They just could not understand why running the kids to death didn't work. Basically by doing proper training techniques with squats, clings etc. your players develop their legs a butt muscles. This improves the "Triple Extension" that he preaches. This is what makes the kids faster, improves vertical and power for blocking. A key principal is training your kid for 5 second bursts by doing explosive training exercises. He used Tommis Frazier as an example of the speed his program develops. I don't think most people would call Tommie slow. According to Boyd he ran a 4.62 40 yard dash but could cut on a dime. This is what he called game speed which is what you really desire. The 40 yard dash times are for track kids not football kids. Track kids are fast in a straight line not elusive. He said Coach Tom understood what 40 times were good for so he would never let Boyd time the football players during season. Too much risk for a hamstring pull. If you coach or have a kid playing any sport review his program. It really does make a ton of sense. Especially when he tells it first hand. He is located in Colorado Springs now with the NSCA. A coach can attend an 8 hour training sessin for a mmimal fee. If it was not so far from Kanas City I would go myself. It was pretty cool when he showed a NU lineman or running back blowing someone up with a block. Even sweeter in a room full of MU, KU and K-State fans.
  2. What kid are you talking about? He's referring to the kid (Micah Kreikemeier) from West Point Ne. Although I have no idea where he got that Husker fans didn't want the kid here?!! Although it's great to hire instate but we ALSO have the "walk-on program". I just hope we don't go offering schollies to every Nebraska Red Blood out there! Blackshirtguru, you are correct I was referring to Micah. Sorry I was not specific in my post. I have noticed other posts questioning Coach Tom's ability to offer Scholarships. I have also noticed a few other posts that questioned why this kid was offered a scholli and not asked to walk on. Of course these are two seperate issues and I should have responded accordingly. Go Huskers!!!
  3. Just Sunday Tom was the smartest guy in Nebraska and now he is not. Tom can extend offers because he is Tom. I am positive that Tom and Bo had a good understanding of each others expectations before Bo accepted the position. Tom has always been honest, up front and a man of integrity. I don't think he would just blind side his new coach. This offer is much bigger than one kid, it is about sending a message to every kid in Nebraska. BTW I hope this kid does not read Husker Boards. It looks like the fans don't want him and that could be crushing to a teenager.
  4. PUD said they could not recruit. We will be better off with middle of the road recruiters and Coaches that can develop players. We are getting those coaches. GO BIG RED!!!
  5. My Grandparents and my Great Grandma took me to a game vs Mizzou in the mid 80's. We were in the South stadium and up 3 rows from the top. Never seen anything like it. The atmosphere was electric and we won. It was butt a$$ cold though. This was a typical Nebraska winter and by the end of the game there were several inches. It was totally awesome!!!
  6. Home boy, Steve Pederson was fired because of the football team's lack of success on the field, which is directly tied into the coaching staff's performance. You think Pederson was fired because our soccer team underperformed? Come on! A huge part of why Ped was fired was his Management skills. That means he does not and did not work well with the people in the athletic department. Most of them infact. It wasn't just football. To say Football had nothing to do with it would be idiotic but it wasn't all of it. He ruined any sence of "family" and any comfortable feeling in working there. He removed alot of memorabilia from the walls and cases. Very very important members of the Husker Family that have been there the majority of their carreers left and not on good terms. Some of them are needed very badly. There are alot of very good reasons Ped is gone and it is not all football. I thought Pearlman said he received two emails during the evaluation period. One good one bad, that statement leads me to believe that football was a larger part than what he wants to admit. It would be more difficult to defend a firing if he said Pedey was being fired for a poor football performance. I believe that the "Management" issues were a smoke screen simply to get things moving. I am also guessing that the presure being put on by boosters probably wasn't due to how Pedey managed his staff. Go Huskers!
  7. As fans we have to understand this negative method does not work. It doesn't work for my kids and why would I expect them to be different. Kicking them why they are down will not motivate these kids to do better. We just have to stop the madness and help pick this team up and get through the year. The kids understand you cannot be successful using the current coaching schemes. They donot believe in running the defenses Coz has picked either. They can see they don't work and are probably tired of beating their heads against the wall. Yes it is painful to watch but it is what it is. Accept it and let's work on getting it back on track. As a recruit would you want to play for fans like this???
  8. I actually listened to about 8 total minutes. It is just heart breaking to listen to such a debacle.
