  1. Tacking on to your post above mine, about the 100-200 mile thing, I would totally agree with this. I probably wouldn't drive up for the Spring Game if I were you, or I would do it very rarely. I'm sure you're right that the vast majority of people attending live within a smallish radius of Lincoln.
  2. We are always in position to rag on the Badgers. That's a birthright.
  3. I see the Spring Game a lot like the second half of a blowout win. Fans stick to their seats when we're up by 40 so they can see the next Big Thing in game action - even if it isn't a real game at that point. The same mentality in staying to the end of a blowout is in play for those attending the Spring Game.
  4. Tim Miles ‏ @CoachMiles Dang it!!! Welcome to Lincoln Pic attached:
  5. That's what I figured. I'm not hip to the lingo you kids in the B1G use yet. Michigan and Ohio State being the Big Two, the remnants being the Little Eight, with PSU making them the Little Nine.
  6. Look if you are going to be a member of the B1G you can't just start trashing the Little 8 way! ¿Que?
  7. More meaningful for just two conferences, though. And not even two full conferences, since Colorado Fan, Utah Fan and Nebraska Fan haven't adopted the Rose Bowl yet. I would presume that if you ask most Husker Fans which bowl they hold most dear it would be the Orange Bowl, since that's what we played for most of the last 40 years.
  8. We should talk about this more Friday at Brewsky's. Hint, hint.
  9. Ginger animals don't have souls.
  10. I don't think that's anti-religion at all. I think that's a really healthy way of looking at things. It's also the way I look at life, coincidentally. Almost all of my friends are Christian. Some are agnostic, some atheist, one Muslim that I know of. Mostly I don't talk religion with people. I just don't care, and as long as they don't care about me/my beliefs, it's good.
  11. We'll see about the "addition by subtraction" situation. I'm getting the impression that may be the case too - even if Pap is in over his head. I'm pretty concerned about the defense this year. Hopefully Papuchis surprises me and he's fully ready to grasp the reins, but I'm afraid we'll see the effects of a defense left somewhat rudderless over the last couple of years, combined with the growing pains of a first-time coordinator (like Beck last year). Not getting into what was going on with Carl, but there should be a lot less distractions with him in Florida. Hopefully that translates to better play on the field.
  12. Totally understand mixing it up. What I'm saying is that we never mixed it up. We did the same thing (the decoy play) every time. Decoys only work if you do them once in a while. The majority of the time you have to play to your strengths.
  13. The 90s were the best time to go to the Spring Game. We had good, fun teams to watch and you could walk up to the gate and get really good seats - usually if you brought a can of food you'd get in free. We had a really big dip in attendance at the turn of the century. 30,000 fewer people watched the game in 1999 than in 1998 (the year after Tom's last title), and we averaged less than 30,000 people from 1999-2003, Frank's final year. There was a pretty good jump for Callahan's first Spring Game, and I still remember the fans giving a HUGE cheer for the very first play - Joe Dailey brought the team out, lined up in a passing set, maybe four players went in motion and the crowd erupted. It was pretty funny. It got a lot less funny after that, though. 2004 was a tough year. Attendance at those Callahan-Era games stayed pretty strong, though - we averaged just under 60K each of his four years. Then Bo came in, the latest program savior, and we had another big jump in 2008. We've averaged 75K in Bo's first four years, although there was a significant drop from 2010 to 2011 (10k). I would expect about 60K this year, making this the most sparsely-attended Pelini-era Spring Game. In other news - if you're going to the Spring Game, get to your seats about 20 minutes early. They're going to give Rex the Uplifting Athletes Award about 15 minutes before the game.
  14. It was just a good example of it. It is a fairly extraordinary claim that Cody has been privately bad-mouthing the school and our head coach since he left, the kind that should be met with questioning. Compare that with the similar 'insider, rumor' stuff that claimed Taylor at one point or another was ready to walk out on the team. If you had doubts about this, forgive me for not seeing it in your post equating people who have nothing but praise for Cody with Bo bashers. You are forgiven.
  15. Wanted to put these numbers in here so we don't lose them. From Sipple's blog post: Past spring-game attendance figures: 2011 -- 66,784 2010 -- 77,000 2009 -- 77,670 2008 -- 80,149 2007 -- 54,288 2006 -- 57,415 2005 -- 63,416 2004 -- 61,417 2003 -- 33,419 2002 -- 31,420 2001 -- 30,414 2000 -- 22,415 1999 -- 29,739 1998 -- 60,498 1997 -- 42,018 1996 -- 46,659
  16. I am clearly not as well versed with these meds/devices as you are Knap. You need to watch more Austin Powers. "You need to watch more Austin Powers." Translation: "Honestly, its not mine." You need to think about my penis less.

  18. Just because man has an effect on the climate does not mean "ZZZOMG MAN WILL DIE!!!!" which is the tenor of every single report you hear about climate change. I have yet to see a single report showing that an increase in base temps could possibly be beneficial to mankind. It is impossible that every single climate model shows "disaster" via an overall warmer planet. Yet I have seen none in any major news report... ever. That's a too much Chicken Little for me. You seem to be hung up on the base temps. The rate at which we're causing it to change is what we have to worry about. Our infrastructures and ecosystems are suited to particular weather patterns and sea levels. It's not very reasonable to think that rapid change would somehow be beneficial. The climate has changed rapidly before. Shockingly, all life didn't end. Let's be real. "We're all gonna die!!" sells more papers than "It's getting a bit warmer." Full disclosure - I think climate change, and man's effect on it, bears much scrutiny. It's nothing to ignore. I'm mostly railing against the hyperbolic coverage of climate change.
  19. Viagra would just keep it up, it wouldn't make it taller. For that you'd need a Penis of the Plains pump.
  20. Do you think this country would be better off with more non-religious people? When you answer "yes" to that question, you'll understand where Tebow is coming from.
  21. Well, here you go. bshirt, the negative rumor is not about Taylor and all of a sudden you drop your standards for what's rumor and what's not? I for one only believe what I read in the papers and this is what the papers say: I'm sorry, was that intended to be a joke? Or did you dust off your palantir and foresee that bshirt was going to post this in this thread, 8.5 hours later? And I wouldn't consider one person's post as "roundly accepted." But that's just me.
  22. I think the amount of "give up" in this team is dramatically less than it was the last few years. There was definitely a lull yesterday - we got up 4-1 and started cruising along, then hit a bump (the two-run fifth) and the wind NOTICEABLY went out of the sails of the team. In fact, the whole stadium got quiet, fans and everybody. It was kinda weird. Then two more in the sixth. Then three more in the seventh. In about one hour we went from being up three to down four. Then the Hawkeyes brought in their closer, who had shut us down on Friday, and very clearly the team said, "We're not done yet." They had plenty of action in the eighth, although they only got one run. The crowd got into it again, and the energy picked back up. We put them down in the top of the ninth and as soon as our leadoff hitter got on base in the ninth, it felt like we had a chance. I don't remember that kind of feeling in the last couple of years. It seemed like when we got down, it was over.
  23. The only caveat I'll give to those examples, zoogies, is that it was the first year of a new offense. That's the only reason I can think that they kept the starters in all game, every game. There were a few games where I was shouting to Bo to put Carnes in. I'm thinking the Minny game was one of them. There were others. Bo never seemed to listen to me, though.
  24. That was in the first article I linked in the post above yours. Yeah well I have better hair than you Knapp. Undeniable fact.
