  1. This shocks me. I've heard he's made some pretty bad plays at Yale. But 10th overall QB - that's not bad. He's smart and he's got an outside shot at the NFL. Talk about winning the gene lottery.
  2. First, I'm very sorry for what happened to your friend. It's a tragedy and nothing mitigates that. However, if you've ever changed the channel on your radio, if you've ever looked in the back seat, if you've ever dug in your glove box or if you've ever looked at a phone, map, friend in the passenger seat while driving, that's enough to kill someone. It can happen to anyone. The ridiculous thing about driving is that it's the single most dangerous thing most people will do every day, and they never stop and think about how dangerous it really is. You are piloting, often without the requisite skill, a 1.5 ton missile at speeds in excess of 30 mph. The consequences of a moment's distraction are devastating, yet we're often looking at the trees, or a bird, or the girl in the next car, or the sunset, or whatever.
  3. What does Nebraska's dirty laundry have to do with this? If you're saying everyone has skeletons, we'll all agree. But it's an obvious statement with little bearing on this situation, isn't it?
  4. But they must contain facts. They cannot aggrandize evidence to ridiculous degrees or those creating them risk prosecution. Further, JoePa's testimony (which is the instant question) is not written salaciously. It is recorded as given.
  5. I've only read parts of it...it was pretty disturbing. Paterno could've done more....just a really crazy and disturbing situation. Get a phone call from a grad assistant stating one your colleagues is performing "innapropriate acts" on a young boy. Had to be mind-blowing, shocking and scary all at the same time. From an empathetic perspective, that would be something really hard to swallow and take in as a coach.... I'm not trying to defend Paterno by any means...just trying to gain a bit of perspective on this whole crazy ass situation...trying to think of what would Paterno do...what should he have done, why did he do what he did? ya know... Well, I think for starters he should have found out if any of the allegations he heard about Sandusky were even remotely correct, at some point in the last nine years. Some effort. Something. Anything. Some kind of inquiry. Because by failing to do so, he becomes (in my opinion) complicit in Sandusky's perfidy by remaining mum. Further, at a bare minimum, he had a responsibility to every player on his team over the past nine years since the day he found out about this to last week to make sure Sandusky was completely innocent before allowing him around his team. Joe did nothing. Inexcusable.
  6. I really don't care if we win or lose this game anymore. Bigger things are happening than Wins/Losses.
  7. For the "innocent until proven guilty" crowd, nobody has convicted Paterno of anything. We don't have to wait for a court of law to know that what he did was wrong. I challenge anyone to read the Grand Jury Report, including JoePa's testimony, and state with a straight face they believe he did everything in his power to save those children.
  8. More about this Diversion Program, and why she's eligible: LINK
  9. Tom Deinhart from BTN thinks the game should be cancelled: LINK
  10. Only if there is a direct threat to the well-being of our team.
  11. You do know that there have been numerous people who have, unfortunately, been the victim of harassment at two different jobs, right? The fact that she complained at back-to-back jobs shouldn't cloud your impression of her complaint against Cain.
  12. It actually wasn't that windy on the field, or in the stadium at all. The flags on the goalposts were, aside from random gusts, hanging limp. The flag atop West Stadium was ripping in the wind, but the one on East Stadium was barely blowing around.
  13. That is awesome. I could have written that, word-for-word, except I'm not brave enough to rewatch the game. Everything you wrote is what I saw, and was baffled by, live at the game. Love that you typed "oi." I say oi all the time, but I rarely type it. That alone made me think you were inside my head. +1
  14. Some felonies are also capable of being dismissed through pretrial diversion. Leaving the Scene is one of them, and according to an earlier LJS article quoting either an LPD cop or someone from the DA's office, Cook is not the first person accepted into pretrial for this kind of incident.
  15. Doesn't matter if you like/dislike Millen, or his actions with the Lions, or as a football analyst. That was some real stuff, and you have to respect the guy for it.
  16. You are the one defending Paterno. Your words, "We don't know what JoePa knows or didn't know. However, it seems many are more than willing to throw him under the bus." Yeah, I'm willing to throw him under the bus for failing to take EVERY CONCEIVABLE ACTION to prevent the "fondling or something of sexual nature" between a grown man and a child. I completely agree with your analysis of McQueary. But have some decency and admit that Paterno is horribly complicit in this as well. Stop defending him, or castigating people for "throwing him under the bus."
  17. Not to cast aspersions on the Penn State students, but we've seen our players come under assault by snowballs, batteries, coins, bottles, etc, from other fans. It is not out of the question at all.
  18. You cannot be serious. JoePa knew there was "fondling or something of sexual nature" with a child, and you're quibbling about the word "rape?"
  19. Which you believe based on the perpetuation of these faiths throughout the last couple of millennia by that organization I'm talking about. No matter how independent your faith, its wellspring is The Church, in all its varied forms. It's not as if you suddenly discovered the Bible on your own in some cave in Israel.
  20. Well, somebody needed to slap them in the face, and we sure couldn't do it.....
  21. Paterno is currently tied with Stagg at 548 games coached. This weekend will be his 549th, giving him the "record." However, it doesn't matter what happened throughout his career. From this point forward, barring some crazy out-of-the-blue testimony that completely totally exonerates him, Paterno will forever be linked with this hideous scandal. No record or stat will ever erase that. Not trying to defend the guy but it could happen. The truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. About the only thing that could exonerate him is if it comes out that he was actually dead this whole time and someone else was calling the shots in the program. That's far more likely than any exoneration.
  22. The LJS is reporting that Lauren has been accepted into pre-trial Diversion: LINK Presumably that means she will start against Indiana this weekend, and continue playing.
  23. Cancellation could also be about the safety of the players and fans, both visiting and PSU fans. These are students who have literally rioted after victories. What kind of atmosphere are we sending our players into? So far there haven't been any incidents that would make me believe this game should be called. But if the Board of Trustees moves to oust Paterno before the game, you never know what the students will do.
