  1. Here's what Pelini said in that exchange: OWH Article link I hope it's fair enough. Bo has a way of parsing words to the press - and hence, to us - that doesn't always convey the full truth of the matter. The question is, do any of the recruits who just signed feel that they've been given full disclosure, or full enough disclosure that the decision they made was the correct one? The way Bo has dealt out information in the past makes this a very pertinent question.
  2. I wouldn't put the onus on Watson. He's known the door was open to leave for two years now. He isn't the one I'd be most concerned about not being truthful with recruits.
  3. The timing is awful, especially if Scott Frost is coming over. I have several Duck Fan buddies, and they're up in arms over the rumors in Eugene that Frosty is headed back to Lincoln. They are (justifiably so) upset that Frost had a hand in the recruiting of several players, only to bolt afterwards. They're upset that players may reconsider their choices to Oregon (which they can't after the LOI is signed, but whatever). Bottom line is, they're pissed we may come "steal" Frost from them. I really, really hope we were up-front with all of our recruits about what was going on. If not, it looks bad for us.
  4. The difference being that, because Bo is a public employee employing other public employees, simply not talking about it forever is not an option.
  5. Here's an article from last May about the AAU and Big 10 expansion: So maybe AAU membership isn't strictly required, but in the case of Oklahoma, I get the impression it's an insurmountable barrier.
  6. Think about this from the media's perspective. Bo hasn't spoken to them since the Holiday Bowl. Five weeks later, with rumors swirling, and an outright declaration of coaching changes being made by another coach in the press, do you really think they should not have addressed the topic? Especially when it's possible - even likely - that Bo won't speak to them again until the Spring Game ten weeks away. If they didn't ask those questions they may as well have hung up their journalist's credentials and gotten another job.
  7. I don't think Mangino was a genius. He made a decent team out of a relatively crappy bottom-dweller at Kansas, and that takes some decent coaching. I have a present for you.
  8. The First Amendment disagrees with you. Freedom of the press is a right, guaranteed by the Constitution. The press are under zero obligation to respect the privacy of public issues. When the questions were asked it was no longer a private matter - the cat had been let out of the bag in the Indiana presser by Wilson. The reporters asked pertinent, respectful questions. All the crying about these questions beggars belief. I don't "fail to realize" anything about this situation. I know full well what the rights, privileges and expectations of the press are. Bo and his assistants are public figures, and their salaries are paid by taxpayers - that's why they're public information, and announced every year. Sure, they're real people, but when they take a public position like they've done, they give up certain levels of privacy. Goes with the territory. Their in lies the crux of the problem. If "certain levels" are to be observed who sets them? As a Mod here you are in a position of power yourself. Should we demand to know certain aspects of your life because it goes with the territory? Granted the two situations aren't realistically comparable, but you get my drift. The constitution also says we have the right to bear arms but that was back when it took 2 minutes to load a musket. I think if the forefathers were here now there would be provisions. But that's an argument for another time. Sounds like wiki-leaks may have a job opening soon. Maybe you should send your resume. You don't think I'm more in the "public eye" than regular members, being a Mod? Most definitely I am, and most definitely the things I say and do are under far greater scrutiny than normal members. I knew that when I accepted the position, and I take my slings and arrows as they come. Bo needs to learn to do the same, and adapt when situations evolve out of his control. That's the bottom line.
  9. The story is being picked up outside the sphere of Husker football: Read more
  10. Didn't Papuchis come here with Bo from LSU? LSU must have seen something in him. Id say LSU is a better program than Ohio, wouldn't you? Why don't you wait until the guy fails before cracking on his hire - or potential hire. Unless you think Bo is an idiot, you've got to think he'd hire a qualified guy.
  11. This is a bit like saying Frost has a lot to do with Chip Kelly's offense at Oregon. Okay, maybe more than a bit, but I think Mitch is speculating completely on Beck's title as passing game coordinator. It was still Mangino's show. Even a guy with the OC title there, you would've said, "yeah, but it was Mangino's show." I'm going to say these moves are risky and cause for concern, /especially/ when improvement or solving the problems we have, does not seem to be the impetus for them. Where do you get the info to counter Sherman's claim about Beck's involvement with Mangino's offense? I don't know anything either way, so any info you could give would be helpful. I'd say solving our offensive problems are entirely the impetus of Watson/Gilmore's departures - if those happen. Losing Sanders would have to be disciplinary in nature since he had one of, if not THE best secondaries in the nation last year, but when our offense fails to score in critical games, replacing offensive personnel is nigh on inevitable.
  12. I wrote up a blurb about that conversation HERE. Good stuff from Sherman this morning.
  13. He was joking. He's not butthurt. I know it's fun to toss around the "butthurt" accusation, but you're off base here. It was a joke, nothing more. Don't crucify the guy because his joke wasn't funny. I thought it was funny. Maybe that's just me seeing through the sarcasm though. Some people have a VERY hard time with that. I should have said, "Don't crucify him because you thought it wasn't funny." I thought it was funny, too.
  14. He was joking. He's not butthurt. I know it's fun to toss around the "butthurt" accusation, but you're off base here. It was a joke, nothing more. Don't crucify the guy because his joke wasn't funny.
  15. You made a joke heavily drenched in sarcasm, but it wasn't terribly obvious. That's why people are responding the way they are. Everyone is getting worked up over a joke. This isn't much of much.
  16. Listening to Mitch Sherman (OWC Sports Reporter) on the Jack & John show this AM. Lots of speculation, of course, but they opined that perhaps the reason UNL didn't hold a presser yesterday to announce the recruits – something they've done every year throughout the modern era – was because Bo wasn't even in Lincoln, which would also explain his absence at the banquet last night. They speculate that Bo was out on the hiring trail, talking to candidates who may be filling empty coaching positions. Mitch speculates that Indiana broke the news about Raymond early as a "back at ya" move to Nebraska, since the Huskers hinted that Ekeler was going to coach the Hoosiers about three days before they were ready to announce his move. So maybe Wilson's disclosure wasn't an accident? Sherman also says that whatever is going on with Marvin Sanders, it's a different situation than what's going on with Gilmore and Watson (the other two guys who didn't attend the dinner last night). Sanders' departure – if it happens – isn't a football-related issue. He thinks we find out sooner rather than later. J&J interviewed Sanders late last season and they felt he was happy and excited to stay. Sherman talked to Sanders at the Bowl Game, and had the same impression. Sherman says Sanders wanted to spend the rest of his career here, and was devastated when the staff was broken up in 2003. It's a strange deal with whatever is going on with Sanders, and this situation is the strangest of all that's gone on this week. Apparently we're looking at replacing nearly half the staff. Sometimes change is good, and especially on offense something fresh could be good to get us out of the doldrums. Defensively it's a different story and its' a gamble to bring in a new secondary coach. If you mess up your chemistry between coaches and players you could have problems. You just have to hope the players hit it off with the new coach. Sherman speculates that we could have a Co-Offensive Coordinator, and it could involve Beck ,who had a lot to do with the offense Mangino ran at Kansas with Todd Reesing. Sherman has no idea how long this process will take. He says he has to work on timelines, but notes that Bo doesn't. There's no reason not to make the moves that you're going to make, though. Hopefully, so we can stop the speculation, it's over soon. It may be pushing it to make the moves by the end of this week, but maybe sometime next week. J&J think that the timeline will be pushed up because of the disclosure by Wilson yesterday. But who knows. ________________________________________________________________________________ EDIT - Edit to point out that everything in this post (aside from this edit) is a reasonably accurate paraphrase from the Jack & John interview with Mitch Sherman, and NONE of it is my speculation or opinion.

  18. Sipple chiming in as well: Els emerges as LB coach candidate
  19. The Big 10 Network is nice. It rakes in tens of millions of dollars for the conference. It's an important asset to the schools. But the revenue from the BTN pales in comparison to the lion's share of the $1.4 Billion (with a "B") in grant monies these schools rake in annually thanks to their collective academic standing. There is zero chance they jeopardize their grant revenue to acquire a larger TV footprint.
  20. And a spare pair of underwear.
  21. Do you mean closing the deal on the field? I would agree with that pertaining to Cotton, although it appears Bo doesn't share our sentiment. When it comes to recruiting, I think Cotton is an asset - or at least, this class lends credence to that belief. Cotton was the lead or co-lead recruiter on: Daniel Davie, Ryan Klachko, Tyler Moore, Ryne Reeves, Zach Sterup and David Sutton. Cotton accounted for a lot of "stars" in this year's recruiting class, so maybe he really is an asset there. Someone who pays more attention to recruiting would have to chime in here to correct me if I'm wrong... Someone in another thread mentioned that one more coach may be reassigned. I wonder if that wouldn't be Cotton, moving to an Admin role, but still involved in recruiting. Pure speculation on my part, of course.
  22. KC, the bonuses are interesting to look at, but you can never, never, never count on them. Teams fluctuate so badly from year to year based on graduation, schedule changes and mental lapses that bonuses simply can't be counted on. Nebraska 2010 is a great example - we should most definitely have been in a BCS bowl, but inexplicably we weren't. The only crucial thing to note here is base salary. Oregon may not make a decent bowl next year. They may win the MNC. They may pull a Texas and win five games with all the talent in the world. You never know.
  23. Speaking of our recruits, the OWH has another in a series of great photo galleries, this one focusing on our latest recruits and Signing Day. Well worth checking out.
  24. Rumorville will not be coming back. And neither will this thread.
  25. Agree 10,000%. It's a concept that HAS TO stop.
