  1. I have, and I've seen several others mention him in conversation. Maybe you're not reading every message?
  2. I agree that Mangino isn't coming to Nebraska, but it's not because Osborne wouldn't let him. This is the same TO who kept some pretty unsavory players on the roster during his final ten years in command.
  3. Yeah, let's knock off the Texas hate, or at the least take it to the Woodshed. This is stupid. Where do we get this mindset that EVERY Texas fan is out to get us? That there are NO Texas fans who might think we played a good game and who like the game enough to give us props for that? We're not children, so let's learn some grace and accept a compliment graciously, or at the very least just refrain from crapping in a thread of respect.
  4. Nice detective work! Sounds like we have a cyberstalking goofball on our hands. Had Gill taken an OC job with, say, the Patriots, would he have kept that up, saying that the Patsies had hired the wrong guy? Imagine spending money on a website like that. Could donate that to the local shelter, but no... spend it on this. Brilliant.
  5. I voluntarily moved from just north of Palo Alto, CA back to Lincoln. Does that make me crazy? Probably.
  6. That Cal game was bizarre. Cal just got done beating Stanford and Arizona, then they get pasted by a Huskies team that had lost four of their last five. I have no explanation for that... Washington will be tough. Their stadium is notoriously loud. But we'll have a bunch of seniors on defense (Allen, Hagg, Thenarse, Gomes and Amukamara) who should help clamp down on their offense. If we can score 20-24 points, we should win this game. Unfortunately, that's a big IF right now.
  7. Is this any surprise after some of (but not all) of the Jayhawk fan visitors we've had in the past couple of years? This is a program that doesn't know its role, like if Nebraska suddenly had a good season in BB and began demanding excellence every year. They'd laugh their butts off in Lawrence if we did.... kind of like we're laughing a bit up here at this stuff from Jayhawk Fan. I'm pretty positive the vast majority of Jayhawk fans are fine with Gill. I'm also pretty positive that they'll all be on board with Gill if he sends them to a couple of decent bowls in the next couple of years, especially if they beat Missouri at least once in the next two years.
  8. That is to say that the thought processes of an 18/19-year-old are logical, and we know that's not always so. Is it "huge" or is it "minimal?" That's the big question, and I don't know if anyone has the answer. Would I be concerned playing there every year? Not with a defense like this. I guess that's where I'm coming from.
  9. We'll have to see who's favored. Washington loses a LOT from their D this year. They lose: DE - Darrion Jones DT - D. Te'o-Nesheim DE - Cameron Elisara LB - E.J. Savannah LB - Donald Butler That's a lot of guys off the front seven gone. They replace them with: DE - Kalani Aldrich (SO) DT - Tyrone Duncan (SO) DE - Everrette Thompson (SO) LB - Cort Dennison (SO) LB - Matt Houston? (JR) They actually lose quite a few more LBs than what I've listed - their two-deep is full of Seniors at LB. They'll be tough, but not insurmountable.
  10. It's not ridiculous, and it's not a minimal impact. Having that game played right in their back yard brings immediacy to these kids. Playing in the biggest, coolest venue in the conference's neighborhood impresses these kids. Knowing that if they play for Nebraska they'll have a legitimate shot at the CCG every year where their family/friends can come watch them more easily also has an impact.
  11. That 2001 Rice game featured one of the best pass plays I've seen by the Huskers, too. Crouch to Wilson Thomas, where Thomas laid out and caught the ball and hit the pylon as he caught it for the score. Really neat bang-bang play.
  12. #1 QB??????? Over McCoy, Bradford, Tim "ESPN sucks my d!ck" Tebow I know he is good but he isnt #1 QB good. Yep. Scout had him as the #9 overall pick, the first QB taken. I've seen him as high as the #3 pick. He's legit.
  13. Steve had an axe to grind against Solich from way back when he was on Osborne's staff long ago. The boosters may have been involved in Solich's firing, but Pederson didn't need any help in that regard. There was some big booster who was all pissed off when we fired Callahan. Cook, maybe? Not sure, but there are always going to be boosters calling up the AD giving their opinion, and threatening to yank funds if they don't get their way. The trick is to not be led by the nose by these guys.
  14. Gill went from making $400K per year at Buffalo to $2 million per year at Kansas, says Sean Callahan.
  15. I agree, especially with the bold part. I tend to think (opinion) that Buffet knows this as well, and that's why he largely stays away from big money contributions to the athletic department. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Warren put a couple of dollars away for the Huskers in his Will. Bequeathed money won't (or shouldn't) make the program beholden to anyone. And it would jive with Buffet's philanthropic nature to do something like that. We'll have to see, 20 years from now.
  16. CB, I think you're preaching to the choir here. There's not as much anti-Texas bias as you might think. I think most people are ambivalent towards Texas until we play them. This current sentiment won't last much past the bowl games.
  17. The difference is that in crucial, game-changing situations, it's awfully difficult to remember calls that went our way and which deleteriously affected a high-profile opponent. When's the last time we were in a big-time game, with a top opponent, and had a hugely controversial call that went our way? Games like Penn State, Florida State and the recent CCG all come to mind. When have we gotten the benefit of the doubt in a crucial situation in a big game like that? You could go back to the Wiggins "kick save" but then you'd have to say that Wiggins intentionally kicked that ball, and that's a huge judgment call that isn't supported by the video.
  18. I'm a Bears fan but I can live with you Packers. You're the enemy, but you own your team and you've got moxie. I like that. Just as long as you're not a god-forsaken Cardinals fan, you're still OK in my book. you mean they have real fans? like ones that have been around longer than a year? Sure the Cards have real fans. They put nearly as many fans in their 46,000-seat stadium as the Cubs put in their 41,000-seat field every year.
  19. He's less likely to throw a mid practice tantrum and tell a player that he's going to get sent back to Oakland to drink 40s with his homies. Isn't that more of a stereotype than an advantage?
  20. I'm a Bears fan but I can live with you Packers. You're the enemy, but you own your team and you've got moxie. I like that. Just as long as you're not a god-forsaken Cardinals fan, you're still OK in my book.
  21. What advantage is there to having an African American coach?
  22. I don't have a real problem with playing the CCG at Jerrydome every year. It puts us down in a high-profile recruiting area, and when we go there and represent ourselves well, it looks good for us. It's on us to win, no matter the location. Home field is only an advantage if we let it. Plus, there are a LOT of Husker fans in Texas. They filled the stadium with plenty of Red when many thought we'd get blown out. Imagine how crowded that place will be with Husker fans when we're favored. If you want an example of what it takes to win in hostile territory, look at Texas beating the Huskers in the Qwest Center the other day. They had a good team, they got punched in the mouth early, and they came back and won. I think the Final Four should be at the Qwest every year - we'll fill that stadium every single year, it'll be a great showcase, and yeah Nebraska will have "home court," but it's not unfair to a team with the skill to overcome that.
  23. Speaking of "dirty teams," did anyone else catch the ESPN show by that independent filmmaker about the Miami Hurricanes? They were boasting about how they liked to swear at, spit at, and in any other way intimidate opposing players. They showed a highlight reel of fights, swearing, dirty plays and outright mockery of their opponents, then had various players from the last decade or two sitting in the studio giving interviews, laughing about it, talking about how great it was that they "scared White America." This is exactly the kind of nonsense that makes me when people talk about how "bad" our team and/or fans are. We're not always Boy Scouts. But there is much, much worse out there.
