  1. Icy cold wind, frozen fields, knocking the ice off your facemask between games - this is what football is about. This is why they don't play football in the summertime - it's a cold weather sport. Pansies.
  2. Yes, that has to happen, but shouldn't we build on our strengths at the same time? It's kind of a chicken and egg thing - if the line plays outstanding, the LBs and DBs will look better. If the LBs and DBs play outstanding then the line will look better. I think we're going to see marked improvement everywhere by the middle of the season, with flashes and glimpses here and there to start. It'll take the young LB corps some time to get going, but with a solid line in front of them I don't think we'll be displeased with what we see to start.
  3. You did direct this at me, though. You did crack on my football team. Note the use of my nym, and the pronouns that identify me. I don't think that's all that unclear. Pointing out the scores of those games, "laughing" about them, is cracking on my team. I question why you bother to "joke" as well. You're apparently not very good at it, or at least this wasn't one of your best efforts. I've enjoyed your posts about 99% of the time here. You have good knowledge and you're not (typically) disrespectful. This really caught me the wrong way, intended or not. I'm willing to chalk this up to a misunderstanding. I'll take you at your word that you were joking, and that I took it the wrong way. To help clods like me in the future, if you could be maybe a little more obvious about your jokes, that would probably stop this kind of thing, at least on my end. Cheers. I Hope this means we're able to "crack on" each other again! What is your point? Seriously?...So a tree falling in the woods without witness does NOT make a sound? Now, I'm gonna be up all night wonderin' if the light goes out in the fridge after I close the door. And all these years...I never knew what the signifigance of tipping over windmills was...now COWS..I get. Very seriously. And if you don't understand the significance of evidence in an allegation, you may want to crack open a book. Or two.
  4. If you know something, out with it. You're not helping anyone with innuendo. Either AC is the kind of guy we want on the team or he isn't. If he's not, then let us know. If you've got nothing, then don't make stuff up. I'm guessing you know stuff. I'm guessing you're right. But without facts, all you're doing is essentially slandering the guy, and that doesn't do anyone any good. I appreciate the info, I really do. But half a story is worthless.
  5. Was he doubled more toward the end of the season? Did his production go down or stay relatively consistent? Just asking - I am really curious. That is something I do not know (the double-team question). As for his stats, they remained consistent through the season, with a huge game against Kansas and another against Clemson. Here's a link to his ESPN page: http://espndb.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=175300
  6. Agreed. I liked what I saw from Allen last year, tossed into the deep end when he was probably expecting to get a little PT here and there. He played well under the circumstances. He ended up with four or five sacks, as I recall. The great thing about our line is, we're legit two-deep. We have guys backing up Turner, Crick, Suh and Allen who won't let the level drop - Moore and Steinkuhler in the middle and Cameron Meredith and Josh Williams on the ends. This is the deepest D-Line we've had in years, and maybe the most talented since 1999. I expect great things out of these guys. And by "great things" I mean destruction and dismay in the offensive backfield.
  7. If you could find the quote where that was said in this thread, I'd be interested. I must have missed that part.
  8. Ndamukong Suh was doubled most of last year and still led the team in tackles and sacks, so I don't think the double-teams he'll see this year will take him out of many games. It's hard to say that one guy is "the key" to the defense. It's not like on offense where one player can shoulder the load. If there is one guy on defense, it would be Suh. But really, the whole line has to step up big this year because of exactly what you said - the youth at LB this year and the shaky play of the DBs last year. Allen, Crick and Turner will need to step up, big-time.
  9. Yeah, just me and the other roughly one million fans who think like me. So lonely. It truelly must be fun pretending. I'll have to try it sometime. Riiiight. Because, like you, most fans think Husker fans should be judged by the lowest common denominator. Right.
  10. Coaches commonly assist with game film on mutual opponents. They're not at each other's throats - it's that fraternal respect they have for each other, that's all.
  11. I think throwing urine is an extreme example and not indicative of the CU fan base as a whole. I think that if it did happen (again, I've seen no evidence of this from the CU side, either), it was some drunken fool having a mental moment. I think there is a fair percentage of people in Boulder who like to get rowdy at games, and I think there is a fair percentage for whom throwing snowballs is not a problem. But going beyond that kind of thing is rare and not indicative of the fan base as a whole. It's too easy to stereotype a whole fan base off the actions of a few. Now, CU has earned some pretty poor opinions across the Big XII for their behavior, let's not pretend. Nebraska fans have long been a target, but the laser incident with OSU's QB is an example of other incidents against other teams. So do Husker fans expect CU fans to be vulgar/poorly behaved? Yes, but those are well earned expectations. And no, Husker fans don't go to Boulder hoping to be someone's target so they can run home and talk about it to their friends.
  12. Eh. It's probably not a very profound point I'm making about the "contradiction." No matter. Those who deny that there's a rivalry are similar to people who deny the sun rises in the west. If you told someone the sun rises in the west, they'd tell you you're wrong. If you say it again, they'll tell you you're wrong again. Lather, rinse, repeat. That's what Husker fans are doing - there is no rivalry, and we say so whenever Buffs fans bring it up. But every time we deny it, Buffs fans take that as fuel for their argument. It's baffling.
  13. Yeah, just me and the other roughly one million fans who think like me. So lonely.
  14. You just contradicted yourself, you know that, right? First you say you don't need us to validate your rivalry, then you say you like it when we treat you different than any other team. Which is it? Here's the thing - there's no such thing as a one-sided rivalry. It takes two to tango, so if only one team thinks it's a rivalry, it isn't. We call people who pursue another person this adamantly even though the object of their affection doesn't want the attention a "stalker."
  15. Who ever said anything about a police report? How about a news article about it? How about a photo to go along with it? How about an admission by a Nebraska fan that they did it? Because here's where your Husker fan bashing runs into trouble - knowing what we know about Colorado's fans, it's entirely possible that one of them did it to cast Husker fans in a bad light. Preposterous, sure, and highly unlikely, but it's just as possible as your "Husker fans are bad people" nonsense. It's fun to pretend, isn't it? You just keep pretending that the ONLY reason people across the country see us different is because we're the only Div IA school in the state. Have fun with that.
  16. The next person to post something below this agrees that they are automatically wrong. Just sayin'. =D
  17. Those must be the CU fans who don't go online and post on message boards. The few times I've been on any CU message boards, nearly half the conversation was about Nebraska or its fans. That's both during the season, when you're not playing Nebraska next (or just after), and in the off season. So perhaps you're right, but if so, the vocal minority drowns out the majority. This I agree with. It's too bad the Big XII killed this rivalry. It's not even a shadow of what it once was. The only way to revive it is to have the Sooners and Huskers win their divisions and meet in the Championship game every year. Then it will be just like old times, when the game was for the conference championship pretty much every year.
  18. Anyone who knows even a little bit about college football lore knows about the Four Horsemen. Only one team beat the Four Horsemen two times, and that was our very own Huskers.
  19. BC asked for topics a while back for his Deep Red series, and I suggested this one. I was glad to see he wrote about it, and did such a great job. Sipple, Christopherson, Rosenthal, McKeever and Henrichs are a pretty darned good crew of reporters over at the JournalStar. I just hope they get their site worked out. This new version is a train wreck.
  20. Listen, I'm not trying to cast aspersions on you. I'm willing to believe you on a personal level, but I work in employment law where we take nothing on someone's word. That's what evidence is for. You and I both know people make things up, and while you and I would probably enjoy sitting down to a beer and our favorite Husker stories, I don't know you at this point. I could tell you I'm the Pope and you couldn't prove otherwise. And yes, I agree that using murderers and rapists is a HUGE stretch. It's an analogy, and no analogies are 1:1. I'm exaggerating to try and prove the point to junior, who seems to be having trouble dissociating the actions of one with the actions of all.
  21. Suh's announcement that he was coming back was the most exciting thing to happen to this team in ten years. Well, that and the Alamo Bowl.
  22. Got a link to a news article about the "incident?" And why does this one incident tarnish all Husker fans? Are we all supposed to be good little boys and girls who never utter a cross word? We don't make mistakes? We're not human? Do the actions of a very tiny percentage of people, who do things the vast majority think are horrible, provide a true representation of Husker fans? If so, does that mean that we're a bunch of murderers? Robbers? Rapists? Because I can guarantee you I can go down to 14th & Highway 2 and find a bunch of Husker fans in the state prison. Who best represents Husker fans? The majority or the minority?
  23. Just curious, but does that mean people can't do it here for some reason? Are the sites affiliated?
  24. Considering Illinois returns a very talented QB and RB behind a decent o-line with the best receiving corps in the Big 10, I would be very concerned if I was Missou. Missou beating Illinois the last four years doesn't mean anything. Nevada is an away game on a Friday. Nevada's offense can move the ball, but they have alot of questions on D. I look forward to watching both of these games. All true. And I should amend my earlier post to say "any of our non-cons besides VA Tech." That's pretty obvious, I'm sure, but I wanted to be clear.
  25. As long as Jake Plummer isn't their QB, you're gold.
