  1. Hard to say. If we beat Oklahoma, and they're undefeated coming in, I wouldn't be surprised to see fans on the field afterward. I always hate when that happens, though. It's dangerous, and stupid stuff can happen because that's not where fans belong. Mixing super-excited (and possibly inebriated) fans with players of a losing team on the field is a great way to have stupid/bad stuff happen. See: Kellen Huston.
  2. The only reason I know is when we hired Bo I was saying that lots of programs have these rough transitions when they go from a legendary coach. OU went through three coaches before they got to Stoops, another legend in the making. We went through two after Osborne, and (hopefully) Bo is the next Big Thing.
  3. Schnellenberger coached OU in 1995, for just the one season. John Blake was the coach when we demolished them in 1997 for #250. It went Barry Switzer, Gary Gibbs, Schnellenberger, Blake, then Stoops. Gibbs coached six years, then one year of Schnellenberger, three of Blake (all losing seasons), and then they skyrocketed with Stoops again.
  4. That's a valid enough concern, but it's no different than any other player on the field. Everyone stands a chance of getting injured by that same LB on every play. After watching LaTravis W in the Spring Game, my concerns over QB depth are lessened quite a bit. If ZLee goes down LWash can take over and move the ball, I have no doubt. Within a few games into the season I think Cody Green could be serviceable as well, and let's not forget Kody Spano, who has quite a bit of talent and all reports say he could (possibly maybe) be available in an emergency sometime this season. Let's say worse comes to worse, the wheels completely fall off the QB position and EVERYONE gets hurt. I have no doubt whatsoever that we could line up with three TEs, a FB and Helu and Castille in the backfield and go Wildcat all season long, and still score points. Heck, all we gotta do is get to the 40 yard line and Henery can drop three points on them every time. Easy money.
  5. You're familiar with how the lungs work, right?
  6. It's very possible. Blacksburg is a very difficult place to play. We'll have to play error-free and to the best of our abilities, and it still may not be good enough. Beemer is one heck of a coach and he's got some serious weapons on both sides of the ball. If we win that game we could be in the Top Ten. Lose a close one and we'll enter the Missouri game ranked in the top 25. Get blown out and nobody is going to believe in us, not one bit.
  7. I agree that we haven't seen anything near what Lee is capable of. People are talking about Washington taking over, and that's all well and good, but Lee is an impressive looking kid with (reputedly) a fair amount of skill. He looked decent passing in the Spring Game, and if he can simply manage the passing game while making positive yardage with his legs when necessary, he'll be more than fine. I would bet he'll be somewhat shaky in the FAU game, simply because it's his first start, and by the time we lace it up for VA Tech, he'll be in full form, ready to go.
  8. Did they have a sale on H's at the Extra Letter store, Jen?
  9. You're not talking football, you're talking about the Kansas Jayhawks. There's a big difference between the two. ;-)
  10. That game is ancient history. I suppose had we not won three MNC's since then some people would still hold a grudge, but since we did I think most people are inclined to look back on that game with more fondness than anything else. Husker fans don't think about Schnellenberger when they think about that game. They think about the decision to go for two, and the results of that play. It probably also helps a little that the last time Nebraska played a Schnellenberger team we destroyed them 37-0 (Oklahoma, 1995).
  11. So go put it in the KU forum, not here. And BTW, he's the 43rd rated TE on Scout's board. Why is this a "great" pickup?
  12. Briscoe, I presume? I hope he's eligible and I hope he plays. I want no excuses when we win in Lawrence. Even without Briscoe you don't win in Lawrence. Do not agree.
  13. I'm 38 years old, so to me she looks like a baby. She has baby cheeks. She's really cute, in an "I think my daughter is cute" kind of way.
  14. I'm not sure why you'd want to just forget one of the greatest games ever played. Yeah we lost, but that loss holds more honor than many of our wins. I'd rather hang my hat on that loss than just about any of our non-conference wins from the 1980s against Middle Directional State University. Some losses are nothing to be ashamed of, and this is one of them. We played our butts off and lost to a better team. No harm in that.
  15. Briscoe, I presume? I hope he's eligible and I hope he plays. I want no excuses when we win in Lawrence.
  16. We need to do something on the field before pulp rags like this take notice. It's been too long since we were relevant for them to automatically see that Helu should have a good year, our TEs could be some of the best in the country, Suh should be atop most awards lists and that in general we're improved. What have we done lately to make them take notice?
  17. LOL Knapp, you and I have already had the playoff discussion, so won't go down that road again. But I will call you out on your reason that other sports have playoffs. (we may have discussed this too. lol) You're correct that its not foolproof or the best team gets crowned, but it also has nothing to do with it being better than polling. MONEY! MONEY! MONEY! is the only reason playoffs exist how we know them in big time sports. First, the powers that be aren't concerned about championships and fairness. Thats for us knuckleheads that give them money for the entertainment value of it all. Second, like someone else brought up earlier, did we need a playoff to determine that the Patriots were the best team in football in '07? Of course not! Even the most avid Giants fans I know admit to that. Does baseball, after 100+ years of crowning a champion without the need for "wild cards" now feel that they've mistakenly used an unfair process all of these years, thus the creation of wild cards? No! TV playoffs are in place because of the profit it brings. There is no FACT that supports the notion that we'll have a "more deserving or "more fairly crowned" champion because of playoffs. Its strictly a notion. For those who are for a playoff, you'll get your playoff when the current powers determine that they'll keep the same percentage of the profits (money = power/control) that they currently do. Everyone may get richer with a playoff, but if the money is more evenly split, the power will shift. The money argument falls apart when you look at sports like city-rec basketball leagues, or beer league softball around the country. If they determine a champion, they use a playoff. And money is not the reason they're using a playoff - they're doing it because it's the best system out there. Again, nobody is saying playoffs are foolproof, or that they always determine the "best" team, or any such thing. Playoffs are simply the least fallible of the choices available.
  18. Haha. "Holes in the playoff system." =) I get a chuckle out of these arguments against a playoff. If I ever doubted that people were gullible, the bowl system would erase all doubts. The fact that people continue to buy into the pablum being given out by the bowls shows just how little ability people have to think critically. There's a reason that nearly every major and minor sport IN THE WORLD uses a playoff-based system of determining a "champion." It's not because it's foolproof, or that it always crowns the best team, it's because it's the least faulty system man has developed. Nobody ever said playoffs would solve everything. It's simply that they solve more problems than any other system, ESPECIALLY the bowl system.
  19. Yes, turning off sigs here is a must. This is a very different (and better) board without them. Anyway, welcome to Husker Board. I've recently returned after a hiatus, and it's better than ever.
  20. In a way it's an honor that such a rumor persists to this day. Nobody complains that Missouri is getting "county scholarships," or Kansas, or Colorado. Nobody even thinks about "county scholarships" when they think of Iowa State. Why? Because none of them have had enough success to raise the suspicion.
  21. Happier than when the new AD & coach came to town? Yes. PS - you've been a member for almost two years, and this was your first post? Wow.
  22. Since Tebow, McCoy and (probably) Bradford will all leave for the NFL this year, I wouldn't doubt this for a second. It would take a perfect storm of team need, worse than expected play by all three of the above-mentioned players, and stellar play throughout the season by Suh for him to go #1. Those are tall odds.
  23. If such a thing exists, and is known about by fans of other schools, how inept would the NCAA have to be to not be able to dig something up about it? Wouldn't it be pretty easy, if true, to simply follow the links in the story chain back to a credible witness? The fact that this "rumor" has been in existence for over a decade and yet remains unsubstantiated should be proof enough that it's bogus. I've been a Husker fan nearly 40 years and I've never even heard of this before today. If I've never heard the term "county scholarship" after all the digging, poking, prodding and talking I've done with coaches, players, reporters and other fans, that ought to tell you something about the "validity" of this thing. But thanks for the post. I learned something new today.
  24. I got an idea, merge your two universities and see if it can catch us in total attendence. But what would they call it though? I know, Kansas Wildhawks or State of Kansas Jaycats! My two universities? Nebraska and.... who? I only root for the Huskers, and there's no "knapplc U" that I'm aware of (although that would be totally cool).
  25. The point is valid, but I'm contractually obligated by the Dept. of Obviousness (I'm a Captain ) that we had a different coaching staff back then. Dont count Dillard out just yet would provide veteran leadership and he is bustin his tail from what I have heard and has a chip on his shoulder this offseason.BTW we have young FAST LBs who should have the mental hicups taken care of with another year with Bo. I think that we will be pleasantly surprised by the speed of our LBs and defense overall. I really hope PD comes back and comes back strong. We sure could use an aggressive, experienced LB in that corps of young (but fast) guys. I wonder how much that "dog house" he was in was real and how much was done for motivational purposes. It would be a sight to behold watching Suh let loose and wreaking havoc with that defensive line around him combined with Dillard playing an A-game with Compton and May and all the rest running around beside him. This could, potentially, be the best defense we've fielded since 2003.
