Exactly! I cant see how anyone can see it any differently. I dont dislike Cally's offense, but I dislike his management of it. Even if a new DC is brought in, and why does anyone think Cally would have a better DC in waiting(?), its not going to change the underlying lack of motivation and game/personnel mismanagment. The only thing consistent about the 4 years of Cally has been the team's inconsistency. Because of this, I have no faith that Cally could ever get us back to being a consistent threat to the national title. In todays college football, 9-3 should be the bare minimum record for a Husker team, winning the North, and a bowl game. With the thought that most years NU would have at least 10 wins (considering 12 regular season games nowadays).

The people spouting how Husker fans (except for themselves I guess?) have no patience, well you're right. I for one have no patience for the sum of what I've seen these last for years and then fed bull about how "excellent" things are. If one can can the sanctimony, one will find that this is about a head coach that has done nothing but blow sunshine, but cant get the results to match the arrogance. In my lifetime (35) there has never been a coach (head or assistant) so unreceptive to the fan base and the SUCCESS of the programs traditions. Most NU fans didnt start off not liking Callahan. Some fans were skeptical, and rightfully so, and Callahan had every opportunity to win those fans over. He failed, not as much on the field, but in his (and some of his assistants) negative response to adversity. The next coach will be given ample support and opportunity to prove himself unless he acts like a conceited ass to the fan base. The vast majority of fans could live with a down year like this, and some of the strange losses we've seen, in the early going of a new regime if we can buy in to what the coach is selling. At this point Callahan would need a personallity transplant to garner the support we'd all like Husker fans to provide to the head coach. Give "us" Husker fans some credit. We CAN see the forest through the trees. This is a knowledgable fan base. I'm thinking some of you havent been around long enough to realize that. (end rant)

Hmmm. Based on the aritcle in the LJS today, I'm buying into this. Know way to know yet if all the fact are straight, but Mann's dad is saying that a conversation did take place. Good call on this "rumor".

I can understand TO wanting to make the most educated decision possible. But if BC stays I would really have to question the way TO has handled this. The rumor-circus has run-amuck and big recruits have jumped-ship. If BC has a solid shot at staying TO should have been pro-active. He should have given BC some public support. He hasn't. If you look "between the lines" it appears that BC is a goner(which I hope is true), but if he isn't then what is up with letting it look like he is? TO hasn't exactly 'let it'. He has reminded us repeatedly that he has not, and will not make any such decision during the regular season. People aren't listening to him. The above quote is what I find interesting. TO is good. He says he wont make any decisions til after the end of the season (Saturday). Am I to belive then that he doesnt have a decision made and that the results of the CU game are going to sway his decison one way of the other for his final decision less than 24 hours later? It seems to me that either a decision has been made or this Saturday meeting is not going to be a hire/fire meeting.

Well, in all fairness knapp, its a yes/no question. Given that, not many are going to give Cally at least a 50/50 chance of staying. I'm kind of like others. I just cant believe Tom would continue to let the Husker Nation be fractured. I trust Tom; and I trust that he won't fall for Cally's salesmanship.

My biggest problem with the article's opinion is that it makes no mention of who Cally would replace Coz with. Why should we have any faith that he could hire a decent D coordinator? If Osborne "brought" someone in, who would be that person's boss? TO or Cally? Could a firing D coord like McBride or Pelini be able to co-exist with the bland Cally? I dont think so. I think this opinion lacked foresight.

No, I mean 1st season coach wins at least 6 games, 6-6, or 6-7. Second year the same, need to win at least 6 games. 3rd year, need to win 9 games, or he's out. Ok, so in the first season at 2-10 you'd fire him. I would have fired him at year three. That win loss record-- 2-10 6-7 4-7 7-5 6-6 belongs to Mangino, who, in his sixth year is currently 10-0. A coach that takes six years to reach 10-0 would not last more than three years (using his win/loss record) at NU. BEAT CU!! And if NU gets its act together and Oklahoma and Texas wind up on the sched, is he a 10-0 coach? Dont forget that Glen Mason got KU to the top10 a couple of times and look what he's done over the course of his career . I like Mangino's team, but I think you're reaching on trying to compare Mangino's year against its current sched to a school of NU's tradition and expectations. You're right, he probably wouldnt last at NU, based on his previous records, and most NU fans would probably be OK with that. Now if Mangino rolls off 5 straight 10 wins seasons or something fairly comparable, then I'd be willing to buy the point youre trying to sell.

I bet this sums up how most of NU fans feel. I'd be interested to hear what the Cally/Pederson apologists think about this.

If BC were to stay, I think we'd see a collective V8 head slap. Just like others said earlier, one or two wins at this point shouldnt overshadow the whole Cally era. I think the whole program needs someone that "we" can all rally behind and TO understands that. Right now there is an extremely small minority that really thinks Cally deservers another year or wants him here any longer. The new coach will be hugely popular compared to when Cally was hired. At that point "we" will basically be One Nation under NU again.

Agreed. I dont see Tom "waiting" and "interviewing" after the fact. When the decisions to fire is announced, there will be either an announcment of who the head coach is or something said to the fact that the person is found, but that it cant be announced at the current time. Regarding the second paragraph, you can also add the fact that the new coach will get to work with/for one of the most revered men ever in college football.

I want Pelini and I've thought about that. I think Husker fans can have the best of both worlds. If Pelini comes in and either cant get the job done or bolts to the NFL, Gill will always be available. When would he not jump at the chance to be head coach at NU, assumming he's asked within the next 20 years or so? This may not be the best way to go about things, but the scenario needs to be considered.

I'm sorry, but you're completely wrong here. It's still college football and tackling is something that must be worked on. What if these players' high school coaches didn't work on their fundamentals or taught them incorrectly? It is the players fault? Should the players have to carry their tackling skills from high school through college without working on them? No. I don't think the coaches are entirely at fault with not being "strong enough" or "dedicated enough". If players don't make the commitment to hit the weights, then does that completely fall on the coaches' shoulders? Coaches have to motivate their players, but in the end, if a player doesn't want to put in the work then it falls on the players. Then those players shouldnt be playing.

Very true. It wasn't Pelini's defense that gave up the ball to Alabama. See the 4th quarter like captain obvious says. Especially the last few minutes. That is a nasty, hungry, motivated defense. I'll be glad to have "that" DC here with his system! Last 4 games they have given up, 24, 43, 24 and 34! That's a lot of points! You guys that want Pelini can't give a viable argument why he should be hired over BETTER DCs like Venables, Strong or other coaches like Leavitt, Schiano or Gill! His defense was hyped early, but they have been getting rolled the last 4 games! I'll admit that your point crossed my mind. LSU's D hasnt quite been the shutdown D they were billed as. My thinking with Pelini is that he's a strong disciplinarian and will light a fire under NU's D. With a bit more talent and the right coaching, the current D could be really strong. Other good options do exist; Pelini isnt a god. But my immediate concern is the defensive and I'd prefer a defensive minded coach over someone that may bring in a good offense, but can't find an assistant to put a good D out there; kind of like a Texas Tech.

Absolutely, fxtoy. The losses certainly don't help, but when you talk down to the fan base, lessen the access to the team and facilities (although this was probably SP's doing), and basically severe ties with the successful history of the program, ones bound to not WANT to give the regime a "second" chance. Certainly winning may have cured all, but since that didnt/hasnt happened, BC has nothing else to fall back on.
