  1. I'd like to see fewer pinned topics, especially on the Husker Football forum. It'd be nice to see the newest threads on my screen when I bring up the page, rather than having to scroll down past all of the pinned threads. Can you try to limit the number of pinned threads, and periodically review and remove the old ones? Right now we have two pinned t-shirt threads, both many months old, which belong in the classifieds section; a 6 month old congrats message; and an old notice about a lame contest that died out, yet it's still pinned. Thanks...
  2. If 2 other teams go undefeated, then who knows? But ahead of 1 loss teams, for sure. Kansas last year was a good example, they were #2 in the BCS until the Mizzou loss. Hawaii had a horrid schedule, and played 2 OT games against weak opponents. It wasn't just lack of respect for their conference, it was that they were barely tested throughout the year, and Georgia exposed them.
  3. I don't follow volleyball very closely, but it seems like an unbalanced story. Lines like "has left the volleyball team", "could rejoin the team", and "sudden dismissal" don't make it very clear that her eligibility is gone. Reading the original story, it sounds like both Pavan and the team are best off parting ways. Good luck to her in Europe. Tying this to Osborne is ridiculous.
  4. And also dropped interceptions. I seem to remember a few passes Joe had no business throwing and got away with an incompletion. I think he'll have learned what worked and what didn't and be a lot better wrt to INTs this year.
  5. The most obviously blown call that resulted in a big play in a big game? 1988, at UCLA. The Bruins ring up 28 points in Q1. Early in Q2, Mark Blazek picks off a pass and falls to his knee. It's not that his knee scraped the ground, he came down solidly. Then he gets up, looks around, and realizes he never heard a whistle, and starts running to the end zone. Players on both sides are coming on and off the field. Blazek goes 75 yards untouched and unchased. Never a whistle. The ref shrugs and signals touchdown. UCLA scored the next 10 and NU was never in the game, so it's pretty well forgotten. 1982 Penn State out of bounds catch was kind of bang-bang. It really wasn't close but you can see how an official could blink and miss it. But it was a huge blown call because of the timing. I consider it the most damaging because we we had a truly awesome team and never got a shot at the title. 94 FSU OB, bad calls, but both judgement calls. I don't recall the clip that well but the non-fumble was in a pileup and not too easy to see. The Wiggins kick could've been called but that's really a judgement call on intent. He didn't kick at the ball, it landed on his foot. I believe he probably lifted his foot up to keep it alive, but could a ref really make that judgement? It definitely could've been from the hit. I had always thought the Ruud hit on the kickoff in OU 1978 was a horrible call but I heard a couple years ago that the returner was called out of bounds when he caught the ball, before the hit.
  6. I suspect the only rule is the number of coaches. If LSU hasn't replaced Pelini, they're ok. I suppose a team could suspend a coach to get a Chizlik or Weis to help out, but you're not going to keep much of a staff around pulling stuff like that. And any problems would be LSU's, not Nebraska's.
  7. I've only been to two bowl games because I usually travel to see family over the holidays. But if you get a chance to go, it can be a lot of fun. They are usually in a nice place, so there'll be things to do, plus you are making a road trip without going into enemy territory. So most likely you don't have to worry about your tires getting slashed at the hotel or game, getting snubbed in a restaurant, getting outnumbered in the stands, etc. Most fans from both sides are there to have fun and not cause trouble. I think it's better than going to a road game at the other team's home.
  8. Truly a great player, and deserving of the 1995 Heisman, but does anyone remember that Frazier threw 5 INTs in 43 attempts in those 3 championship games? Plus another 2 INTs in the post '92 bowl game. The post 93 Orange Bowl named an MVP for each team, Ward got it for FSU. While it's true Frazier got 3 MVPs, in that game he was just the MVP of Nebraska. He probably outplayed Ward, but Ward did have a few more total yards, and got the W.
  9. That was on the 2 point conversion Florida tried after their last TD, but you're right about everything else. Any other lineman would've been out of gas but Christian had just enough left to high step across the goal line. I can't remember laughing harder at another play. The ref completely blew the call, that should've been 2 more for the good guys.
  10. upteenth? As in one? That's all the sacks we had on Manning. We did have a lot of pressure on him all game, making him throw bad passes. For defensive plays, I'll add Strasberger's interception to seal the 1982 OU game, and Harris' two batted down balls in the end zone to hold OU off in 1983.
  11. A few comments: While I agree that Gill was a great QB and perhaps more complete than Frazier, the comment that Gill couldn't play varsity as a freshman is wrong. Freshman were allowed to play starting sometime in the mid 70s. I believe Monte Anthony was the first freshman to play at NU. Osborne kept to keep most freshmen on the frosh team. I think Quinn was our QB in 80, wasn't he? That's a pretty good QB for Gill to beat out. Vince Young is an absolute freak of an athlete. He put that Texas team on his back and took the championship game in his own hands. Had he stayed for his senior year he may very well have gotten his 2nd championship. I'm a big Frazier fan, but I put VY ahead of him. My opinion. It's too bad Frazier is not in at all. Archie Griffin was #21 and that's very generous. good back for 4 years, but not spectacular like Walker, Sanders or Dorsett. He didn't have that great of a senior year but there wasn't another strong candidate. Chuck Muncie was 2 or 3 IIRC. Charles Woodson at 11 and no Peyton Manning is just to piss off Tennessee fans who had finally quieted down some after 10 years. Tom Novak in the top 25? You gotta be kidding me. Would there have been anyone outside of Husker Nation who wouldn't have said "who the f*** is that?"? It'll be Red Grange. There is absolutely, positively, no way he is kept off the list. Simpson is deserving as a play of top 10, but will be kept out because of his legal troubles.
  12. First, I only mentioned Witt, didn't say he'd be starting. I imagine he'll be in the mix. I'll have confidence in whoever is named starter next year, because of where Ganz put the bar.
  13. Whether it's Ganz or Lee or Witt or whoever (just 11 letters in the top 3 names, huh), we can be certain whoever it is will be very good. Instead of having all guys with reputations and an untested senior, we know Ganz can put up some yards and points. If someone beats him out they will have to put on a real good showing. I like that better than wondering if we'd have to start whoever seemed to make the fewest mistakes while having some semblence of an arm. My guess is Ganz will start.
  14. I don't see why you would even have a final meeting for the players with Callahan. If he's bitter, it just gives him a chance to cause some dissension. Even if he's not, it could lead to the players rationalizing what really wasn't a very good performance by them this year. Likewise with a public statement. No need for one, what would it accomplish, for anyone, unless he felt that Osborne unfairly characterized the reasons for dismissal. Just walking away quietly is the professional thing to do, and that's exactly what Callahan has done. I think everyone could use a bit of self-reflection to decide what they could've done better, and then look forward to the future, and don't keep looking back. "Everyone" includes the fans too.
  15. Hawaii struggled against some very weak teams. They are nothing like Boise St of last year, and if they have to play against Georgia in the Sugar it will be very, very ugly for them. Hawaii only really looked good against Boise St. They deserve a BCS bowl. To put them in the championship tells every other school to find an easy conference and don't schedule any tough OOC games. The NCAA Div 1A clearly is not giving the idea that every team has a shot at the NC, not without a playoff. Whatever made you think they did?
  16. LSU is comfortably ahead of OU in the coaches poll. The BCS formula does differentiate poll points, not just position, so a solid #2 is big for them. Sagarin's ratings are out. The one he has to use for the BCS has VaTech #1, LSU #2, and OU #3. Ohio State #4. It looks like the other computer ratings don't come out until the announcement. Based on early returns, it does indeed look like LSU vs Ohio St. Kansas dropped to #8. Looks like they won't get a top 4 guaranteed BCS spot. The best hope for a 2nd BCS bowl for the Big 12 is the Orange, or the Sugar if the Rose Bowl takes Georgia over Illinois. I think the Fiesta will take ASU if they can.
  17. Well, it's not like it's any kind of a rivalry game...
  18. I started another thread on that last night, trying to analyze the scenarios. They may not get one if Missouri loses if the Rose Bowl wants Illinois. http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22906
  19. If OU beat Missouri, OU goes to the Fiesta Bowl. Ohio State goes to the Rose Bowl vs WV (assuming WV beats Pitt--very likely). LSU/Tennessee winner to the Sugar Bowl. BC/VT winner to the Orange. USC to the Rose Bowl, assuming they beat UCLA--likely. If Hawaii beats Washington, they should stay at #12 or higher and gets at large spot #1. Georgia will most likely stay in the top 4, guaranteeing them a BCS game, at large #2. The Rose Bowl gets to pick a replacement for Ohio State. This is the biggie. They may go for a traditional Big 10 / Pac 10 matchup and take Illinois (at large #3), who just needs to move up one spot--perhaps past Tennessee or BC, underdogs in their conference championships. Or if Kansas is lucky they take Georgia. The Orange gets the next pick, and probably takes Georgia if they are available. Otherwise Kansas probably gets this. Fiesta goes next--do they take the local Arizona State team (at large #4), or do they take a Big 12 matchup of OU-KU? I'd guess they'll stay local. The Sugar goes last, and is stuck with Hawaii. Root for Missouri, or root against Hawaii if you want to see Kansas in a bowl. Or hope the Kansas moves up to #4 and gets a guaranteed spot, but I think LSU and Va Tech move ahead of them if they win their games. Why do we care? Big 12 respectability (especially B12North), and all Big 12 schools get a cut of this big payday. Instead of a huge 2nd BCS payout, we get the Texas Bowl in the conference instead.
  20. You are exactly right, Colorado ABSOLUTELY WILL get a bowl bid.
  21. The way to make sure you get last choice of coaches between all of the schools looking for new coaches is to treat your outgoing coach like crap.
  22. I think they7 still need a KSU loss to Fresno state. Why do you think that? Do you not think the Big 12 will get a 2nd BCS game?
