  1. Beck might quit if Mangino came here. Rumor is that the KU assistant coaches hated Mangino after he threatened to fire them after almost every game and practice. That's also the supposed reason why coaches bolted for Miami, Nebraska, K-State, etc. But, if there is indeed a shakeup in the offensive coaching staff.... imagine Beck the O-coordinator and Mangino running the O-line. What a turn around that would be. That would also make for a lot of weird connections between the two programs now that Turner is at KU. Bottom line, Mangino knows football, but he doesn't know self-control, both emotionally and physically. I think it would be a bad hire with all his baggage.
  2. I agree. While the outcome was highly, highly disappointing, those young men out there tonight, particularly the defense, made me very proud to be a Husker fan. If I could say anything to the men wearing red tonight, I would say, "Thanks for a great game." I am still 100% behind the team and I thank them for their efforts. GO BIG RED
  3. I believe Kyle Larson got one from Bo after the Alamo Bowl
  4. From what I hear Mangino is done at KU. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread about domestic issues at Mangino's house and from what I've heard that is playing a major part in this thing. Also people are wearing thin of Mangino's explosive temper. Guys on the team can take an ass chewing but Mangino has had a history of taking it too far. He's also thrown some players under the bus which has really distanced himself from a lot of guys in the locker room. Mangino has done a lot of wonderful things for KU. They're definitely a better program now than when he took over. But KU has also put a lot of money into the program and they're expecting better results. This is a much more attractive job than what it was a few years ago. Also, from what I hear, Gill is a name floating around for replacing Mangino. I seriously doubt Leach would take the job considering him and Mangino are good friends. Also, Patterson would most likely have more interest in the KState job than the KU job.
  5. I take back half of the terrible things I've ever said about O'Hanlon! Good thing he doesn't listen to schmucks like me! GO BIG RED!
  6. I completely agree. I think it would be great to face OU every year, even though the past ten years they've been much, much better. But even when OU was down in the 90's it was still a big game and a lot of fun. The SEC does a good job of working with rivalries, not against them. I thought it was foolish to do away with this rivalry in '96... I'm excited some people are still thinking about bringing it back. And yeah, it could make the schedule more difficult but so be it.
  7. I was pleasantly surprised with the Mizzou fans. We sat close to the student section and the Mizzou fans, for the most part, were respectful. Two people we sat next to traded friendly smack talk, but it was all in good fun. A few people yelled some obscenities at us, and one guy gave me a good shoulder in the concourse, but those fans were in the minority. I'm sure there are people like that at UNL games too. But overall, a very good experience. I'm glad I went! GO BIG RED!
  8. I think it would be pretty cool to see your name on the back of a Husker jersey. For an incoming freshman seeing their name on that jersey, it probably serves as an awesome symbol to show that they are now a Husker. And I don't think a name on the jersey really creates a selfish player. In fact, I would argue that having their name on the back would, if anything, bring more responsibility and accountability to a player. On that note, I would love it if they would go back to the old school uniforms. Just put a name on the back and a "N" on the helmet.
  9. haha that one is pretty good. No one hates Missouri than Kansas. Here is a website from a store in Lawrence filled with funny anti-Mizzou shirts. http://www.joe-college.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=28
  10. That's all it takes to get banned? I agree to keep things civil, but this board is pretty tame by most standards.
  11. I think JP's real message is that you have to have a kick ass, take no prisoners, don't take no s*** from anyone attitude. You can't just turn it on when it's fourth and one on the goal line. It has to be part of your routine. Practice, warm ups, weights, everything. You don't have to be a prick, just have an attitude that you're a bad dude. A guy that comes to mind is Ray Lewis. Talk about intensity, this guy has it big time. He's not a jerk or anything during interviews (he actually comes off as a real intelligent person), but there is no way I'd put my arm on his armchair in a movie theater.
  12. At least Frost didn't get rolled like the last time he was caught in a runningback's rage (LP)
  13. Honestly, it's been my experience that the best coaches were never the best players. It's usually the second or third teamer's. The reason is they usually weren't the best athletes and had to work there tail off perfecting every technique, watching extra film and asked the most questions. Billy Martin, a former Yankee player and manager (like five times), said the exact same thing in his biography. I can't find the book to give the exact quote but he was talking about some MLB managers who were former All-Stars but were struggling as managers. Having said that, I think Mike Brown would probably be an excellent coach. The man is very smart and a hard-nosed player. Even though I hate the Bears, I hope he makes a comeback for them.
  14. You would have to kick out Colorado, Kansas, K-State, Baylor, Okie State, and Texas Tech as well then; they all have stadiums in the 50,000 - 55,000 capacity range.
  15. That first season was rough. I had some serious doubts then about his coaching abilities after that Southern Miss game... wow that was a tough loss. But then we would have games that would get my hopes up again, like the Michigan game. Basically it was a roller coaster ride with BC.
