  1. Beck might quit if Mangino came here. Rumor is that the KU assistant coaches hated Mangino after he threatened to fire them after almost every game and practice. That's also the supposed reason why coaches bolted for Miami, Nebraska, K-State, etc. But, if there is indeed a shakeup in the offensive coaching staff.... imagine Beck the O-coordinator and Mangino running the O-line. What a turn around that would be. That would also make for a lot of weird connections between the two programs now that Turner is at KU. Bottom line, Mangino knows football, but he doesn't know self-control, both emotionally and physically. I think it would be a bad hire with all his baggage.
  2. I agree. While the outcome was highly, highly disappointing, those young men out there tonight, particularly the defense, made me very proud to be a Husker fan. If I could say anything to the men wearing red tonight, I would say, "Thanks for a great game." I am still 100% behind the team and I thank them for their efforts. GO BIG RED
  3. I believe Kyle Larson got one from Bo after the Alamo Bowl
  4. From what I hear Mangino is done at KU. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread about domestic issues at Mangino's house and from what I've heard that is playing a major part in this thing. Also people are wearing thin of Mangino's explosive temper. Guys on the team can take an ass chewing but Mangino has had a history of taking it too far. He's also thrown some players under the bus which has really distanced himself from a lot of guys in the locker room. Mangino has done a lot of wonderful things for KU. They're definitely a better program now than when he took over. But KU has also put a lot of money into the program and they're expecting better results. This is a much more attractive job than what it was a few years ago. Also, from what I hear, Gill is a name floating around for replacing Mangino. I seriously doubt Leach would take the job considering him and Mangino are good friends. Also, Patterson would most likely have more interest in the KState job than the KU job.
  5. I take back half of the terrible things I've ever said about O'Hanlon! Good thing he doesn't listen to schmucks like me! GO BIG RED!
  6. I completely agree. I think it would be great to face OU every year, even though the past ten years they've been much, much better. But even when OU was down in the 90's it was still a big game and a lot of fun. The SEC does a good job of working with rivalries, not against them. I thought it was foolish to do away with this rivalry in '96... I'm excited some people are still thinking about bringing it back. And yeah, it could make the schedule more difficult but so be it.
  7. I was pleasantly surprised with the Mizzou fans. We sat close to the student section and the Mizzou fans, for the most part, were respectful. Two people we sat next to traded friendly smack talk, but it was all in good fun. A few people yelled some obscenities at us, and one guy gave me a good shoulder in the concourse, but those fans were in the minority. I'm sure there are people like that at UNL games too. But overall, a very good experience. I'm glad I went! GO BIG RED!
  8. I think it would be pretty cool to see your name on the back of a Husker jersey. For an incoming freshman seeing their name on that jersey, it probably serves as an awesome symbol to show that they are now a Husker. And I don't think a name on the jersey really creates a selfish player. In fact, I would argue that having their name on the back would, if anything, bring more responsibility and accountability to a player. On that note, I would love it if they would go back to the old school uniforms. Just put a name on the back and a "N" on the helmet.
  9. haha that one is pretty good. No one hates Missouri than Kansas. Here is a website from a store in Lawrence filled with funny anti-Mizzou shirts. http://www.joe-college.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=28
  10. That's all it takes to get banned? I agree to keep things civil, but this board is pretty tame by most standards.
  11. I think JP's real message is that you have to have a kick ass, take no prisoners, don't take no s*** from anyone attitude. You can't just turn it on when it's fourth and one on the goal line. It has to be part of your routine. Practice, warm ups, weights, everything. You don't have to be a prick, just have an attitude that you're a bad dude. A guy that comes to mind is Ray Lewis. Talk about intensity, this guy has it big time. He's not a jerk or anything during interviews (he actually comes off as a real intelligent person), but there is no way I'd put my arm on his armchair in a movie theater.
  12. At least Frost didn't get rolled like the last time he was caught in a runningback's rage (LP)
  13. Honestly, it's been my experience that the best coaches were never the best players. It's usually the second or third teamer's. The reason is they usually weren't the best athletes and had to work there tail off perfecting every technique, watching extra film and asked the most questions. Billy Martin, a former Yankee player and manager (like five times), said the exact same thing in his biography. I can't find the book to give the exact quote but he was talking about some MLB managers who were former All-Stars but were struggling as managers. Having said that, I think Mike Brown would probably be an excellent coach. The man is very smart and a hard-nosed player. Even though I hate the Bears, I hope he makes a comeback for them.
  14. You would have to kick out Colorado, Kansas, K-State, Baylor, Okie State, and Texas Tech as well then; they all have stadiums in the 50,000 - 55,000 capacity range.
  15. That first season was rough. I had some serious doubts then about his coaching abilities after that Southern Miss game... wow that was a tough loss. But then we would have games that would get my hopes up again, like the Michigan game. Basically it was a roller coaster ride with BC.
  16. Rivals always seems to have inflated numbers to sell subscriptions. After further review, Mo's 40 time on rivals when he was recruited was 4.45 and Octaviens was 4.5. http://rivals100.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=102381
  17. Jayhawk fan, I don't think Kansas lost too much talent. They lose McAnderson at RB, but they brought in a good juco RB and they return Sharp. Anthony Collins had a great year but KU has done a pretty good job with their line the past few years. On defense they lose Talib and McClinton, but other than those four guys (granted they were major players for KU) they bring back pretty much everyone else. Can they have the team chemistry that they had last year? That's the real question. Can't wait for the "Italian Stallion" showdown either!
  18. We as fans might not care but I can almost guarantee that a lot of recruits tune into ESPN and the bashing there isn't a good thing.
  19. Oh man, Brian Knuckles. I completely forgot about him. I remember reading an article comparing him to Rozier. What ever happened with Knuckles?
  20. I assume you are talking about Barry Sanders, with an "s" on the end. Yeah, that would have been a nice steal! I heard even the Jayhawks passed on him. About the article posted: Why would Callahan quit recruiting an entire high school after one kid changes his mind? It said that this year alone they have five, yes five, DI recruits. That doesn't make any sense to label all the kids from that high school because of one athlete.
  21. oh yah. he was a burn. last i heard he was trying his hand at being a sports agent. from what i read, he really matured after his final injury. I think Evans still considers himself a Husker and fan of the Big Red. I know that he has appeared as a guest on Big Sports 590 talking about the Huskers. Things just didn't work out for him after so many injuries.
  22. a kid that went to Auburn NE the last 2 years. the kid got displaced by katrina. anyway he helped auburn to a state title, and looks like a very good prospect 6'3" runs a 4.5 With the recent news of Nebraska kids being asked to walk on, one would think that the same thing could be offered to this kid. There are always student loans and I am guessing with his background he could get a loan without interest.
  23. What's more impressive: A coach a year removed from appearing in the Super Bowl or an assistant coach coming off of a National Championship win?
  24. Yeah, this was the post I was referring to when I made the comment along the lines of that just because someone runs from the cops doesn't mean the cops are right. You bold letter the fact that he ran from the cops. Don't make the mistake of thinking one should never run from the cops. Like I said, the Jew example was the extreme, but I wanted to make my point that there realities when running away is far better than being an innocent person up against the law enforcement. Again, like I said earlier, it doesn't apply to Witt; he obviously shouldn't have ran. I wish I would have just left that out of my post completely, but now I am left to explain myself more thoroughly.
  25. offenses here.. the kid did nothing that deserves any jail time at all.. jesus.. hes a kid.. give him a break My daughter's 19 year old boyfriend is a Marine serving in Iraq right now. Big kid...6'3, 220 lbs...would've made a great DIII or II LB if he would have hit the books like he hit on the field. I'm pretty sure he would have liked to be at a DI school getting drunk and screwing around for a few years on the state's dime but nobody "gave him a break"...send Witt over to Iraq for a semester and let him find out how lucky he is to be where he is. Maybe that will straighten him out. So let me get this straight: The person your daughter is dating would rather be "getting drunk and screwing around"? Have you told him/your daughter these thoughts of yours? How does that sit at home with you? Second of all, I love the quote when you say "nobody 'gave him a break.'" You mean the free state public education wasn't a break? Oh yes, that's right, he didn't hit the books in high school but that couldn't have been his fault. Apparently Witt did hit the books: 4.0GPA. But he's just "lucky"; never mind the facts that not only is Witt a full-time student, but also spends at the bare minimum 20 hours a week with football. And trust me, practice time carries over to off time; you're not exactly in a great state of mind to hit the books after workouts. But like you said earlier, Witt is just "lucky" and his "lucky" breaks have nothing to do with discipline and hard work. So to teach him a lesson, we should send him off to Iraq? Did I really get that part right? Iraq? Where did that come from? Is that to teach him how "lucky" he is? I guess in your world Iraq is an option for the "lucky" kids who get "a break". Let's reexamine the situation. A college freshmen gets drunk during dead week, makes an idiot of himself, and then tries to run away from the cops. Yes, Witt has to shoulder much more responsibility than most kids. Yes, Witt did a stupid thing. Yes, Witt deserves to be punished. But to those of you who are calling for his head, I think you should relax and realize that very few people are as smart or as logical as yourself. Witt messed up; it's not excusable but it's reality. I am sure Dr. Tom and Bo would like all their athletes to sustain from alcohol but they are at least somewhat understand that kids do stupid stuff sometimes.
