  1. That's being very optimistic. I think 7-4 is where we are headed. Even with a great recruiting class we still need to find out if these guys can coach. If we don't get some kind of a pass rush our inexperienced secondary is going to get burned. Don't think for a second we have made up those 30 points from where OK is. They had one of the best recruiting classes ever last year.
  2. Is Fluellen (sp) back next year or has he graduated. If he is I hope he will be able to stay healthy and use his speed. Brooks was advertised as a good possesion type receiver and if he has good hands he's a welcomed addition. With our additions to WR position perhaps they can be used to shuttle in plays so our QB's can stay on the field.
  3. Gentlemen I think we are getting too emotional over something we have no control over. Pederson fired Frank, the regents gave him that power. I didn't like it but my one week suspension from this board allowed me to see that it's not worth it. It's like arguing politics. There are two sides. In a few years if things are going nowhere in spite of having good recruits, then it's time for the whole administration to go. I'm letting it go for now but I will forever hold Pederson's quote over his head. He said it's about winning championships. Him and his coach better deliver. For now let's just see what happens or you guys can continue debating what the hell.
  4. I think the fact Smith returned for his senior year speaks volumes for his desire to lead. Maybe Matt Herian if he's healthy, but I don't think receivers are looked to be team leaders.
  5. It's pretty hard to give Pederson any credibility when everything he gets involved with becomes a controversy. He wanted to make his mark just like he did in Pitts. by firing Frank and now he has a head coach who "didn't realize there was pressure to win at NU" when Pederson plainly stated in the stupid news conference announcing Callahans hiring it was all about winning championships. Who are these idiots in charge of one of the most prestigious football programs in the country? No one I want to put two cents behind.
  6. Not to sour on these all-star games, but isn't it stupid to pull these kids away from school during their senior years when some haven't even qualified to go to college yet? We all know academics take the backseat to athletics, I guess it will take an injury to realize that this is all a pretty stupid idea.
  7. I think with the 7 home games, 6 or 7 wins are possible. With all the new players adjusting to new coaches it might take some time to get everyone going in the right direction.
  8. I'm tired of reading into what some of these players are thinking. Generally guys turn pro when they have nothing more to prove in the college game. Of course, in a better defensive scheme, they have proven they can play. (i.e. 2003 season)
  9. The only time the defense woke up was when former NU players and McBride talked to the players. Makes you wonder what Cosgrove was doing all year. I know Bill threw this staff together quickly last year, I was hoping he would make some tweaks to improve it but I guess I was wrong.
  10. The worst thing would be to fire Callahan after one or two seasons. Besides who can stand another coaching search conducted by Stevie Wonder? We need to wait at least until Houston Nutt needs another raise.
  11. You have to consider there are 48 other states (I don't think they play football in Alaska) with football teams, columnists and what have you that have been waiting to bash NU for 40 years. Yes the season sucked and many of the losses can be blamed on strange coaching decisions. We will find out here shortly if Callahan can coach or not.
  12. Hello Huskerboard: I just wanted to say that my post on New Years night was out of line. While Blackshirt told me to sober up and I was banished from this board I just wanted to say I am 45 yrs old and haven't had a drink in nearly 15 years. It was unfortunate that my post followed Dave because it wasn't personal. Some of you feel like you have to be spokesman for Pederson and Callahan. Are you so small that you have to defend these guys? After I was banished someone posted that another "hater" has flamed out. In my opinion that was a personal attack against me. The true difference between the haters and lovers is this. The haters actually think Pederson and Callahan are leading them to the promised land (see Cub fans in the dictionary.) The lovers (ie. the true fans) think this program is going to hell in a hand basket. But we are called naysayers, haters and the best comment we read is "don't come running back to this program when we are national champions" You all make me laugh. If I offended anyone, I apologize. But no one should be a puppet for this A.D. and the hogwash he is spreading. I look forward to having civil debates with all of you in the future. And Dave it was not personal. My rant just happened to follow your post. I can only say happy new year and you all have a good time dreaming.
  13. Okay so you are a moderator. That's makes you an *** kisser. The moderators tell us oh there's a support pederson webite. ***** you people. If you want to have a ****** **** and keep us from having any opinions then kick everybody off this board and kiss each others ***. Obviously since the word "husker" is attached to this board you are under their control. Everytime someone leaves this team it's the same old crap "I never heard of this guy". You make it sound like everything is great. Take off your scarlet and cream glasses and stop making excuses. Steve Pederson spent and Callahan are not going to lead you anywhere. And if, and that 's a big if you are real fans you would question what the hell is going on in Lincoln. Stop making excuses for these morons.
  14. Are you kidding? Stoops would have been hard pressed to have the same record as Frankie and when he lost to KSU in the big 12 game Pederson would have said I refuse to allow Kansas State to dominate the big 12.
  15. It all comes down to Stevie trying to ensure a winning record next year so this program doesn't look like the crap it's become. 5 straight home games? 7 home games? The Houston game was to be on the road and Billy knows he ain't ready for any kind of prime time.
  16. Maybe Callahan can't keep track of all the players. Remember last year he only wanted 70 guys to warm up before the game? This guy is an ass. People keep saying it's just players crying over spilled milk, well you know what? This is a disturbing calling card Bill seems to be leaving everywhere. Players questioning what the hell he is doing etc..Birkel was the athlete of the year in NE. and this moron couldn't find a play or two for him to run? I'm surprised he didn't think Ruud shouldn't play here either. Callahan and Pederson apologists better get your heads out. It's not solely about talent. 2005 looks worse than this year.
  17. That's the smartest thing anyone has done in Lincoln this year
  18. Haven't we heard enough from Callahan this year? "Wow!! what a great defense we have!", "We are getting better every week", "This team is playing very hard". We've been hearing total B.S. since January.
  19. I guess this is a well worn topic, but I would hope we would give Callahan a chance to do something with his own recruits. I have been critical of the play calling this year too. I think Bill lost this team when he brought in asst. coaches. It was his right to do it, but these players signed to play for a group of coaches and when those coaches were wiped out, it's created a mess. People forget how close players get to coaches, in some cases they are father figures. It's taking me a long time to say it, but more assistant coaches should have been retained and I think we would have seen better results. I'm sure Pederson wanted no part of Pelini, because Bo saw right through that phony bastard. In what way did retaining Gill help this team other than the fact that he's probably a pretty good yes man. Our receivers drop more passes than ever before.
  20. The strangest thing about the coaching this year is inconsitency. No wonder why the players look confused. We rushed for over 200 yds against the #2 team in the country and threw the frickin ball all over the place against SMU, KSU & Iowa St with no success. Those are 3 games we should have won. It's obvious these coaches are recruiters, but can they coach? That's another matter. And no one but time can answer that question.
  21. OU 56 NU 10 Rushing 10 Passing 5-16-4 int 82 yds
  22. I haven't seen any scores predicted. OU 56-10. Oklahoma gets off to a fast start and plays it's second string the entire 2nd half to avoid injuries.
  23. Callahan is not going anywhere. He signed a 6 year deal and we can't afford anymore buyouts. I understand he's a great recruiter, but does that make him a great coach? I guess we are heading towards our best recruiting class ever. So what? Osborne rarely had a top 10 or even 15 recruiting class. I remember reading for years how Notre Dame always had a great recruiting class. Well the Domers suck and have for many years. The bottom line is knowing what to do with the talent is what makes a great coach. Remember Bill said the Raiders were the dumbest team he ever coached. Maybe it wasn't the players.
  24. I think a point everyone is trying to make is that Iowa St. gave our offense many options that Callahan didn't take advantage of. We threw the ball 31 times in the first half and had 7 points. Our running game could have accomplished a hell of a lot more. The most disturbing thing I read in the World Herald about 6 weeks ago. It said Callahan is very stubborn. All that means is that we are going to continue to pass the ball with a QB that is not equipped to pass the ball. I don't care who we recruit if the coaches can't recognize their strengths and weaknesses. This is like watching the Mike Grants of the world throw 40 passes. On another note why didn't everyone crap their pants when Bill got the personal foul to start the game. Pelini got one in last years bowl game and everyone said "he's not head coaching material". I still think Callahan should be given a chance, but he better start coaching smarter.
  25. Run the ball you a$$hole$. Every incompletion makes it 2 & 10, 3 & 10 how can you put a drive together that way? I vote we don't go to Oklahoma at all next weekend. Regarding the reason the defense played well last week was that they were scared to embarass themselves in front of former players and coaches. It had nothing to do with Cosgrove, because he's still a crappy coach.
