  1. We were 7 point FAVORITES.. Remember, V-Tech lost to East Carolina and struggled against Marshall.
  2. Just checked that and it's true. That is very impressive. Georgia Tech scored 38 in 2006. Florida State scored 21 in 2007. I don't know if this is my heart or my brain making this prediction, but if you are going to put me on the spot... let's go with 24-21 Hokies. I respect the heck out of your program and although I have a fairly good feeling about the way our team is progressing I see this game as fairly open. I hope that our homefield will be the difference maker between two excellent teams. No team has scored more than 21 on us at Lane since the 2006 season if I am not mistaken and I think both Ds will play exceptionally strong and try to contain the running games of the opponents. My girlfriend and I are actually going on four day vacation Monday morning, which is probably a good thing as I am getting more anxious by the minute. We'll be back on Thursday and I hope to see as many of you as possible before the game. Here's to a great game, with no injuries, and a wonderful time together in Southwest Virginia or wherever you all may be watching the game. Best of luck to you all for the rest of the season! - Hokieluv
  3. Ok.. so was Oklahoma in 2000 1998 Oklahoma was 5-6 1999 Oklahoma was 7-5 2000 Oklahoma went 13-0
  4. Welcome to the board! I just started posting too after many years of lurking. I agree with your post except for a small part of it. I think it's entirely acceptable to get your hopes up for an undefeated season. Not expecting one, but hoping for one. I realize some people don't like to get their hopes up for something that will likely not happen. But I'm not like that. When I buy a Powerball ticket, I realize I'm not gonna win. That doesn't stop me from thinking about what I would do with the money. When I don't win, I'm disappointed, but it was still fun to imagine winning. As long as I'm a Husker fan (which I will be as long as I'm alive), I will begin every season hoping for Nebraska to run the table and win the National Championship. Even if we went 0-12 the year before (God forbid). Yes, I will be disappointed a lot, but it will be much sweeter if (or when) it actually happens.
  5. In all seriousness.. Yes, I do think we have a chance. A very small chance, but still a chance. We will only be underdogs in 2 (maybe 3 if Mizzou is favored) games this regular season. Virginia Tech is very beatable. OU will be tougher, but at home, we have a chance. But we also have to avoid getting upset be MU, KU, TT, Baylor, CU, etc. It's a small chance that we go undefeated, but it could happen. There is nothing wrong with hoping it happens this year. Don't let these self-proclaimed "realists" try to bring you down. Every year, cheer for the Huskers to go undefeated. Anything less is an insult to our fine program.
  6. I agree. After we win this year's National Championship, we will continue winning every National Championship from now on. Eventually, the NCAA will consider it unfair to the rest of the college football teams and move us into the NFL. We will then win every Superbowl. They will rename the sport to "Peliniball" and change the lyrics of "We Are The Champions" to "We Are Nebraskans." GO BIG RED!!!
  7. I tried to listen to KLIN (lincoln radio station), but it's NOT WORKING TODAY It worked last week when I tried it out, but now its not working.. What is the best way to listen to (or watch) the game online?
  8. Apparently sarcasm is a lost art.. It's a major pet peeve of mine when people say there's no chance. There's ALWAYS a chance. If he didn't mean 0%, he shouldn't have said it.
  9. NO chance? A 0% chance? Seriously?? I guess I don't have to go to the Oklahoma game anymore if there's no chance to win. Wait.. didn't 1-4 Stanford beat 5-0 USC a couple years ago? I seem to remember 5-4 Iowa beating 9-0 Penn State last year. Oh yeah, upsets DO happen ALL THE TIME in college football. But it would be silly to think that Nebraska could upset anybody.
  10. Remember also 2008 Alabama and 2002 USC. Saban went 12-0 regular season after he went 7-6 first season. Carroll went 12-2 and won the Orange Bowl after going 6-6 first season. The second year jump is very real for great coaches at tradition rich schools. It can happen here too! We just have to hope and cheer as loud as we can. If the second year "jump" does not happen, we'll hope for a third year "jump"
  11. Ok.. so football season starts in 35 days (but who's counting, right?) and fall camp starts next week. So I, like many of you I am sure, am about to go insane. I've been watching Husker youtube videos for the last hour or so and thought it would be fun to list the most memorable play of every season I can remember. Feel free to agree or disagree. If you disagree, post your own. 1993: Field goal wide right against FSU. This was actually my very first Husker memory. One of the only times I've seen my father cry. 1994: Cory Schlesinger's 2nd TD to take the lead against Miami. 1995: What else? Tommie Frazier's 75 yard TD against Florida. 1996: ?? (I don't remember a specific play from this season) 1997: Another easy pick. The catch. Frost to Wiggins to Davidson. 1998: The facemask on Crouch at K-State that was never called 1999: Eric Crouch leveling an Iowa DB on the way to the endzone 2000: 2001: Stuntz to Crouch TD pass against Oklahoma 2002: Lord interception to end our upset hopes against Texas 2003: Ruud fumble return to "upset" Oklahoma State in the season opener 2004: Joe Dailey running out of bounds on fourth down against Southern Miss 2005: The interception-fumble by Smith against Texas Tech 2006: Purify TD catch against A&M to clinch North 2007: The USC fumble on a punt return that was recovered by USC and ran 50 yards (we had the momentum before that happened) 2008: The 57 yard field goal by Henery to take the lead against Colorado
  12. Here's the interesting part: Pelini told me on Monday that, in the days after the MU game, defensive coaches from Texas and Oklahoma State called him to ask about the scheme. Who beat the stripes off the Tigers the next two games? Guess. Interesting.. Did Texas and OSU use our scheme? Did Pelini give it to them because he just doesn't like Mizzou?
  13. If we are undefeated, then I think we get Gameday. People still remember the NU-OU rivalry as something special. If both teams are undefeated, it will be huge. If we have one loss, then they probably go elsewhere.
  14. I just want to say.. IF V-Tech beats Alabama and IF we beat V-Tech, we will easily be in the Top 10 and we become the media darlings of the year, much like Alabama last year. Expect a lot of love from ESPN this year. Its not that they hate Nebraska, they just were being honest the last few years. Now that we're on our way back, they will not shun one of the largest fan bases in the nation.
  15. I heard awhile ago that Dezmon Briscoe would be academically uneligible for the 2009 season. Is this true or was it just a rumor? If true, do we become the clear-cut favorites to win the North?
  16. Go to the OU game.. no contest. What if you went to the 300th sell-out game, and then we BEAT Oklahoma later in the year? You would always regret missing it! Don't take the chance! Regardless of whether we win or lose, its gonna be a huge game with a lot of media buildup.. maybe even a Gameday primetime game if we take care of business during the beginning of the season.
  17. Just took a long look at our 2010 schedule. We are gonna catch some heat from the media and pretty much all college football fans for our non-conference opponents. Western Kentucky in Lincoln Idaho in Lincoln at Washington South Dakota State in Lincoln I really hate to see this. I have always railed on teams like Texas Tech and Kansas, K-State for loading their schedule with creampuffs.. but this is way worse than even them. We may quite literally have the easiest schedule in D-I college football.. It's nice that we should blow through them without much trouble, but do we lose credibility for not beating a decent team outside the Big XII? Will we be prepared to play the big boys of the Big 12? With Texas losing much talent (including McCoy), will we even have the schedule strength to be able to make a run at the National Championship?
  18. Definitely the Virginia Tech game for me. If we played V-Tech ten times with last years teams, I bet we would've won 6 or 7. It was a game we really should have won, if not for turnovers, blown coverages, muffed punt returns, and penalties. I would want a do-over with Missouri if we could have played them again at the end of the year. Missouri ran out of gas at the end of the season and we got hot. If we could have played them in November, I think it would have been much different. I would not want a do-over with Texas Tech, because quite honestly I doubt we would do as well in the do-over as we actually did in real life. As much as I hate to admit it, the OU game probably wouldn't change much at all in a do-over either. (That said, we should beat Tech this year, minus Crabtree and Harrell, and do much better against OU in Lincoln)
  19. I am very curious to see your responses! This is how to do it. Put the game that you think is toughest on the top. Put the game that you think is the easiest on the bottom. Put a dashed line where you think Nebraska will be favored (Games in which NU will be the underdog will be above the line, games where NU will be favored will be below the line) Oklahoma at Virginia Tech -------- at Kansas at Baylor at Missouri Texas Tech at Colorado Kansas State Iowa State Florida Atlantic Arkansas State Louisiana Lafayette So, if Huskers win games they should win, and lose games they are supposed to lose, I think they go 10 - 2.
  20. Everyone so far has missed the point of my post. Of course things look great for 2010! Everybody thinks that.. I'm saying watch out for us THIS YEAR. All of those coaches I listed amazed people during their second years, when everybody said that they were a year away. We are in the exact same situation!!
  21. Bob Stoops at Oklahoma 1st year - 1999: 7-5 2nd year - 2000: 13-0 (won National Championship) Nick Saban at Alabama 1st year - 2007: 7-6 2nd year - 2008: 12-2 (remember they were 12-0 and ranked #1, nearly beating Florida in the SEC Championship) Pete Carroll at USC 1st year - 2001: 6-6 2nd year - 2002: 11-2 (won Orange Bowl) Urban Meyer at Florida 1st year - 2005: 9-3 2nd year - 2006: 13-1 (won National Championship) Jim Tressel at Ohio State 1st year - 2001: 7-5 2nd year - 2002: 14-0 (won National Championship) What do all these coaches have in common? They are arguably the top 5 coaches in the game. They all took over programs with great traditions that were down. They all had a mildly successful first year. They all had a magical second year. Teams surprise everybody when they have a 2nd year head coach that they believe in. They simply play above their ability and make things happen. They play with more intensity, because they want it more than the other team. If we believe that Bo Pelini can be one of the top coaches in the game, then why can't we make a run at the title THIS YEAR? Every one of those teams were considered to be a year or two away, but they weren't. They surprised everybody. Maybe 2009 is OUR year! GO BIG RED!
  22. I see that Nebraska is 100 to 1 to win the National Championship next year. I think that is pretty fair. That said.. Miracles happen! GO BIG RED! I'll be rooting for them to win it in 2009 just like any good fan should. 100 to 1 shots sometimes prove everybody wrong and win it anyways! I remember people saying that USC, OU and Ohio St. were one year away. Maybe that could be us, it's definitely worth hoping for. That said.. People should not overreact if we do, in fact, lose 3 or more games. We'll get there eventually!
  23. For some reason.. I'm very proud that our fans dominate internet polls. It means we care more about our team than ANY other fan base (cares about their team)
