  1. If I got to choose exactly how this upcoming season would happen, here it is. Nebraska starts the season by announcing its acceptance of a Big 16 invite, along with Notre Dame, Missouri, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers. Nebraska thunders through the first 5 games, winning by 3-4 TD's a piece. Boise State gets beat bad in Week 1 by Virginia Tech. 5-0 Nebraska gets revenge against 4-1 Texas, who lost a close one to Oklahoma the week before. Nebraska and Oklahoma both finish the season undefeated and meet in the Big 12 Championship game. This will be Nebraska's last Big 12 Championship game ever, and we get to play it against our old rivals for a spot in the biggest game of them all. Of course we beat them 6 to 3 and play undefeated Alabama for the National Championship. Ohio State also finishes undefeated, but is left out of the Championship game by fractions of a point. The BCS falls apart, and adopts a playoff system based on the 16 team super-conferences that start forming around the country. Nebraska and Ohio State "randomly" play in Lincoln to start the Big 16 regular season in 2011.
  2. If Nebraska jumps to the Big 10, and it looks like we will, we will no longer be in the same conference as OU. I'm excited about the thought of playing Oklahoma every year in our non-conference schedule. Maybe as a yearly season opener?
  3. I have a headache after reading that. Your good analogy was comparing the season to a roller coaster? Wow.. that's never been done before..
  4. Yes. A mindset that has been missing, the numbers and stats people are looking for will follow.. Kind of what i got from "Nebraska is back." You guys get my point!
  5. Being "back" is a mindset. You cannot measure it with tangible numbers. Even if you could, you think we would not even be back after going 14-0 and winning the MNC? Hard for me to even comprehend the logic in that..
  6. I had a talk with some Texas fans tonight that made me realize one thing I'd like to share. Nebraska football is back! Some may argue that we need to win our conference an x amount of times or win a national championship a y amount of times. The Texas fans would obviously disagree. They expressed their dread at having to play in Lincoln next year. Teams no longer want to play us. Our team, coach, and fanbase feel that we can line up with any team in the country and beat them. We are hoping for an undefeated season next year, and will be disappointed if we do lose a game. Our defense is getting the national media to sing our praises, and most voters will even feel confident enough to put us in the preseason top 10. Nebraska football is back! Feels good, huh? P.S. Now that we are "back," we now need to win games and championships to stay there.
  7. Yep. Nebraska being back is when Nebraska fans and players feel they can win every game, and that our team can and will beat any team that has to play us.
  8. We are excited about the POSSIBILITY of winning a National Championship next year. It's the best chance we've had in nearly a decade. Why would we not be excited about it? Something changed in this team late this year. We as a team and a fanbase feel that we can play and beat anyone in the nation. There is nothing wrong with that, as long as we don't over-react if we do lose one or two. The problem is too many people expect an undefeated season, rather than hope for an undefeated season.
  9. I want to come up with a top 10 list of the best and most memorable plays of the 2000's. Help me think of some plays. These are the plays that I can think of off the top of my head that will certainly be in. Stuntz to Crouch TD against OU in 2001 Crouch TD run against Mizzou in 2001 Purify TD catch to beat A&M by 1 in 2006 Henery 57-yard FG against CU in 2008 Suh INT TD in 2008 4th down stop against Zona to finish the shutout in 2009 Some plays are certainly memorable, but I'm not sure I should include them on the list. Should "negative" plays be allowed? If so, we could add these. Smith INT and fumble against TTech in 2004 Nunn fumble against Texas in 2005 83 yard reception by VTech in 2009 McCoy throwing the ball as time expired in 2009
  10. I want to start by saying I could not be happier with the transformation our D has undergone under Pelini. Our future is VERY bright! My topic however, is about the number of yards that opposing teams seam to get against us. On the other hand, they simply cannot convert those yards into points. Is our defense a "bend but don't break" defense? How do they seem to come up with a turnover or big play when they really need it? Is it luck? Is it coaching?
  11. I think we get it. However, the best thing for the future is not losing more games this year. NOT IN ANY WAY. The best thing for the future is to go to a BCS bowl. Losing games always hurts the little picture and the big picture. Going to BCS bowl games helps both. It's just a very obvious one-sided poll, and anyone who votes differently is not taking the poll seriously.
  12. 0-15? 2-16? WHO CARES?? They are both terrible! I am hoping this staff can get us back on a level playing field with the South.
  13. I haven't seen this yet. Some people don't get to see every thread. Thanks for posting!
  14. One of the polls used in that average have us rated #1 I think having us ranked ahead of OU at this point can actually be justified. We lost by a point to a top 10 team on the road. OU lost by a point to a Mountain West team at a neutral site. BYU then got clobbered by Florida State.
  15. I feel confident that Nebraska will be playing in the Big 12 Championship game this year, and was wondering when tickets will go on sale? I searched for it on Ticketmaster, but I couldn't find anything. Even if Nebraska doesn't make it, I'll still probably go to the game because that stadium looks AMAZING!
  16. Why so confident? You have some nice things going, but you haven't faced a competent passing attack yet. Nobody even in the top 60 in passing. Mizzou is top 20. Becuasse the mizzou defense allowed over 200 rushing yards to nevada and helu was number 6 in the nation going into this weekend. Because today the vt offence showed that it isn't has bad as everyone thought. Because the nebraska defense has allowed less than 10 points per game. And mizzou gave up 20 points to that always stingy power attack of boweling green (do I need the insert sarcasim guy or is it obvious) Missouri's close games with Bowling Green and Nevada also come to mind. It's true that Nebraska hasn't seen a passing attack like Missouri this season. Also Missouri hasn't seen a defense like Nebraska's.
  17. We will not be favorites by any more than 3. If, as TigerTim seems to think, Mizzou is favored by 4.5 (or at all), I will be hitting Nebraska hard. I think we will win by a couple touchdowns or more.
  18. I think we would beat VT 4 out of 5 if we played them 5 more times.. Anyone who actually watched the game would probably agree.
  19. Enthusiasm is great and I surely hope you are right. But claims for "next year" in all due respect this early in the season is usually an alibi for not getting anything much done "this year". We have beaten two patsies and I hope a third this Saturday. If we win that game we will be the best in the Sunbelt conference. We haven't played a single team in the Big 12. We lost the only game we played against a team that is a legitimate big time football team, and they have a set of problems of their own. Why don't we beat Missouri and then thump our chest about THIS YEAR and if we TCOB, next year will take care of itself. Let's win some games this year and get to the top 10. I agree. Actually with both of you. We will be a great team next year. But looking ahead to next year should never happen during a season. Let's focus on being great THIS year. I don't want Husker fans to get a Chicago Cubs mentality, always saying "next year is our year"
  20. Good observations, except for one. I think it was our gameplan to not pass rush. On every play, our front four spread out and contained Taylor. I thought it was obvious they were not trying to get to him. On the plays where we blitzed, we got to him pretty quickly.
  21. I root for Big 12 North teams to lose out of conference. I realize it weakens our conference perception, but if we win the Big 12 and go undefeated, it doesn't matter. We should still get into the MNC game. On the flipside, if Mizzou, Colorado, etc. lose embarassingly, it hurts their chances to get top recruits and build their program, and that makes it easier for us to go undefeated. If a recruit was trying to decide between Nebraska and Colorado, where do you think he would go after these first two weeks?
