  1. Um, what? Over the years, Kerkhoff has written more in support of NU than some Nebraska sports writers. This article was an opinion piece on the 'now'. He's not always correct, nor do I always agree with his opinions, but he does give credit to the Huskers in predominantly Husker hating eastern Kansas/western Missouri. I would go so far as suspect he may wear scarlet colored glasses. I thank him for his efforts!
  2. I'll admit, I was hoping Levorson would be a big star. I grew up in Crete, class of '86. Heck, John's dad was my guidance counselor! We aren't known for producing top athletes, so it was great to hear one of our own finally got a football scholarship to Nebraska! It's a real bummer to hear things aren't working out for him. Hopefully, he figures out what works for him and has success whatever path he takes. I wish him the best. Side note, I had a classmate who received a football scholarship to a small college in Nebraska. He quit the team before the season started. I asked him why, and he said "It's not fun anymore." He was always bigger and stronger than anyone he faced on the gridiron in high school. My guess is he experienced a 'whole new world' at the college level and would have to devote more time and energy than he wanted to. Hence, no longer being 'fun'. I don't know if this pertains to John's situation. I have no insight, facts, proof, or documentation. 'Stuff' happens. Good luck to John wherever life takes him.
  3. Formula 1. But if I ever win the lottery, I'd like to try the 'Hookers and Beer' method.
  4. Beau Davis (4th string QB) and Justin Baumgartner (Long Snapper - and I admit, I had to look on the roster to even figure out who he was) are 'high profile'??? Would be to me if I were in the hospital. God Bless all the unpaid student athlete kiddies trying to get a degree who find time to do so. Beau Davis should be an inspiration to all. He's toiled away in the program, never once receiving big accolades, and playing in only two games in his career. Did Beau skip out on the Huskers like several other QBs? No. Gotta respect a kid like that. I'd love to meet Beau. And, um, the long snapper kid, too.......
  5. Brian's sign should read, "I am correct." Green will enroll, have a scholarship, and attend classes starting in Jan. But he will not be an official NU player (according to the NCAA) until he signs the LOI in Feb. This is an NCAA technicality. Even though his eligibility clock starts ticking when he begins attending classes? My apologies to Brian Christopherson, please send the sign to the NCAA. Recruiting rules are worse than IRS deductions. I give up.
  6. Bearing in mind that the last day of late registration for the spring '09 semester at UNL is January 20th.......... "With Green graduating from high school in December, all four quarterbacks are expected to be on campus for the spring semester, ready to take part in conditioning and then spring ball." "Green, who is committed to NU but not officially a Husker until he signs a letter of intent in February, has passed for 2,765 yards this year and rushed for 1,457." Both by Brian Christopherson at the LJS, IN THE SAME ARTICLE titled "Who Will Fill Ganz's Shoes?" on Husker Extra. Brian, here's your sign.
  7. FWIW, U.S. News and World Report college rankings: 47 Texas 64 Texas A&M 76 Baylor 77 Colorado 89 Iowa State 89 Kansas 89 Nebraska 96 Missouri 108 Oklahoma 130 Kansas State Unranked Tier 3 Schools Oklahoma State Texas Tech None of which has anything to do with the performance of their respective football teams....... GBR!
  8. I'm all for BCS chaos. I'll be cheering for the Jayhawks November 29th and the Tigers December 6th.
  9. Can't remember the games my father took me to in the late 70s and early 80s - too young. Don't remember the games when I was a student 86-88 - too drunk. Games attended in 90s - still too drunk. Games attended early 00s - don't remember, recovering from being a drunk. 2006 Big 12 Championship with ex-professor UNL and UNO. 2007 at MU with same ex-professor 2007 at KU with my kids (daughter 6, son 4, first Nebraska game for both) 2008 planned on going to OU with same ex-professor, told him we would be bad luck, didn't go anyway, didn't matter. Now I wish I had saved all the ticket stubs......
  10. Penn State - harken back to the 80s Ohio State or Michigan - quality big 10 opponent Alabama - harken back to the 60s West Virginia - just because Georgia Tech - good team in the early 90s Hawaii - Nice road game before or after a bye week SMU - harken back to the 70s/start a new rivalry?
  11. Well, I'll delurk for this one..... I moved down from Nebraska to Kansas City back in March of '96. A fellow Husker went with me to the 'lights out' night game over in Lawrence, can't remember if that was '96 or '98. Anyways, it was 32 degrees, raining, and Memorial Stadium concessions ran out of coffee and hot chocolate before halftime. We were teased a bit in the first half, just a little by a couple of guys, but nothing in the second half as 90% of the KU faithful had left. Skip forward a few years..... I had tickets to both the '07 KU and '07 MU games. When I told my father, he said be careful in Columbia. I asked him why, and he said when the KC Alumni took a bus trip over for a game (my parents lived in KC for one year) the Missouri fans were really nasty. I asked him what year was that. He said 1967 or 1968. I told him I thought things have probably changed in the past 40 years. Well.......... A friend of mine from Marsland, NE (well, that's his official address, in reality, he's a few miles east of Agate Fossil Beds National Monument) drove all the way to Kansas City, then I drove us to Columbia. We got there and noticed all the students wearing bright yellow (not gold) t-shirts with '(sexual reproduction) CORN' in large letters on the front. I thought to myself, wow, real creative and with the class and debonair style usually only seen in people who don't wear shoes. Well, we tracked down our tailgate party (half Mizzou, half CORN). After some playful banter, speculation, food, beer, etc., we went into the stadium without much taunting, well, I should say, that I could understand. I think the MU students had been drinking all day and most of our taunters were totally incoherent. Once in the stadium I had one of the MU students get right in my face and yell at me that my beloved Cornhuskers were not a very good team in rather vulgar terms. We were constantly barraged with running commentary on how badly our team played by the three young men behind us. They kept it up the whole game. Afterwards, we returned to our car amids shouts of derision aimed at anyone wearing a scrap of red, to find it not in exactly the way we left it. The results were that it took a few trips through the car wash to get the gunk off (still haven't figured out what it was), an afternoon to get the trim back on, and I still haven't gotten all the marks buffed out of the clearcoat. For the Kansas game, my sister came down from Lincoln and we took my 4 year old boy and 7 year old daughter to the Lawrence. We were treated exceedingly nice by KU fans. We did our own little min-tailgate before the game and chatted with some BLUEs next to us. I was wearing my replica letterman's jacket and received a couple of compliments on it while walking to the stadium. We had about as good a time as one could have at this game, given the outcome. The KU fans cheered for their team and didn't give us any grief. On our long march back to the car, a lot of KU fans felt sorry for us and were offering us beers, sodas, food, etc. Now, I have to put in this disclaimer, at the Kansas game, we were in the family section. So, I kind of call shenanigans on myself in comparing the experiences during the game. But the before and afterwards tell me who the better fans are. In fact, I was thinking about some of the stories opposing fans have related when coming to Lincoln. Sounds to me like KU has the edge. My sincerest wish is not for retribution when the Jayhawks and the Tigers come to Lincoln in '08, but I hope they are overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of EVERY NEBRASKAN THEY MEET! I doubt very much this will happen as those values seem to be in short supply in the under 30 crowd, but I can always pine for the old days of applauding our competitors after the game while our band plays their fight song.
  12. No that honor goes to Alabama WRONG! Alabama had 78K show up. Here's a verifiable source: http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/2008.../381927811/1011 However, I don't know how many attended Ohio State's spring game. This being said, I agree with the opinion that the number of attendees of a spring game does not a national champion make. However, it goes a long way towards recruiting......... slmhusker Actually, I think you are misinterpreting what is being said. All time spring game attendance goes to Alabama as they had 90k+ last year. Nebraska has the largest attendance of this year, but not all time. Yes, I did read that incorrectly. I thought we were talking about this year only. You are correct, the Tide packed the house last year for Saban. My mistake. I'm WRONG!!!!! GBR slmhusker
