  1. It doesn't matter. He's connected at the hip to Callahan weather he likes it or not. I'm sure Pud is smart enough to figure out that he'll get at least as much heat as Callahan when things go wrong because this is Pud's creation. He created it, and he brought Callahan into it. He owes it to Callahan to give him a vote of confidence, even if he's lying (like the article said). You don't think he's trying to distance himself in order to fire Callahan do you (either now or in the near future)? Everyone knows I think Callahan is a horrible coach, but I think firing him now is worse than keeping him around to see if he can make something happen. Besides, I don't think Husker Nation would accept Pud firing BC without Pud's resignation as well. Likely nothing will happen, but it's really strange he declined comment. Any other thoughts as to why?
  2. Have you actually heard this somewhere? I think it's a matchup a lower tier bowl would love to have, but is it possible? First of all, Ohio has to win their last two games. I think they'll win at home against Miami, but lose on the road this week. Even if they were able to win both, every place I read has the Independence Bowl as SEC vs Big12. I don't know how the lower-tier tie-ins work. If there is a bowl elligible team availible from the specific conference they have a deal with, do they have to take it? Or can they look elsewhere? Can anyone shed light on this. One thing is for sure: if we manage one more win, the lower tier big12 bowls will fight over us because we travel so well.
  3. Why is that? When Devaney started out, he lost homecoming to Missouri in his first year. He also got blown out by Oklahoma in Norman 34-6. The same is true for Osborne. He lost at Missouri and and got blown out by Oklahoma in Norman 27-0. And if you think the teams Devaney and Osborne first went up against in the 60's and 70's are the same caliber teams such as Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas Tech of the 21st century, then you have problems. Kansas St, the worst team in the history fo college football was a guranteed win every year up untill 1993 when they began getting 9+ wins. They were 60-153 from 1973-1993 (avg 3 wins a year). Iowa St was 116-177-7 from 1973-1998. That's not even begining to calculate Kansas or Missouri and Oklahoma St which had consecutive losing seasons from 1989-1996 and other losing seasons in the 80's, and 70's. Some people say losing to teams like Kansas is called medicority, i call it Parity. Tom Osborne, Bobby Bowden, Joe Peterno can no longer stock pile talent upon talent like they use to do in the old days and now smaller teams like Kansas, Utah, Miami-Ohio compete with the bigger name schools and pull off upsets. Devaney and Osborne might not have had losing seasons to begin with, but then again they never had advanced computer equipment to breakdown how many times a team runs a certain play, or the ability to rewind over and over again game film and take that players moves and blow it up on a tv screen and see how to attack them and find weak spots. They also were not tied down by all these NCAA laws and scholarship limits. Did you use the 'parity' argument when Solich was going 9-3? My guess is you didn't. I think Former's comparison of Solich to BD and TO is much more valid than yours of BC to those guys. Look, you've proven to me by your arguments (and your new nifty pictures in your signature) that you really dislike Solich and blame him for all our problems right now. Those of us who disagree with you think none of this was necessary. Pud removed a successful coach who was on the rise after a bad season and sold us a bill of goods that turned out to be a sack of crap. That's all Pud is, a sleazy door to door salesman. And this coach is his product. After each rant like this I always leave a disclaimer that I could be wrong. Maybe, by some miracle, BC will get this turned around. But right now momentum is definitely headed in the wrong direction and I don't believe that it is going to be corrected with these clowns. Now, tell me I'm a bandwagoning, fair-weather, spoiled fan. Because I know that's what's coming next. By the way...are you trying to say 'Karma' in your signature, or is 'Karam' some sort of play on words that I'm not getting? I honestly want to know because I'm a little slow on the jokes sometimes.
  4. I will criticize this post because it is not what it is. Total yards: KU - 428, NU - 138. Even if you take away the 70 yard run that's still a difference of over 200 yards. We got it handed to us and that's that. Nothing that can't be corrected about this loss? You talked defense your whole post. What about the offense? 138 yards. I don't care how bad the offensive line is, that just sucks.
  5. www.nationalchamps.net I'm sure it's on the official athletic department site, but I always go to the above site because they have the future schedules for all D1 teams.
  6. Just a little personal antectode on the topic here. I was at the UNLV-BYU game in Vegas on Saturday. Some UNLV fans were behind me, and I heard one say to the other: "Did you see Nebraska...the lost to KANSAS!" It was in an unbelieving tone. I couldn't tell if it was a 'they've really hit bottom' statement or a 'wow I can't believe Kansas pulled that off' statement. And I didn't have the strength to talk to him about it.
  7. Except they regularly start the game by giving up 3 scores... I won't buy this 'tired' crap. I don't understand. Hunter is saying that by pure numbers, an offense that is on the field more is simply going to score more points. You don't agree? I think we all agree with that. It just doesn't make sense that most of our opponents score half their points or more in the 1st quarter. Our defense shouldn't be tired then.
  8. That would be great. I've seen his TCU team play this year and they're good. But it would never happen. As much as I would love to jetisin most of this coaching staff and our fearless AD into outer space, we're stuck with them. If we fired Cally after this season (even though he deserves it), no self respecting coach would even take a call from Nebraska. Look what happened when SP fired Solich. We were pretty much a joke nationally, and it took far too long to even hire the loser (yes, he does now have a losing record as a head coach) we got. The only thing that is possible that I would like to see happen is to get Pederson out. I didn't agree with the coaching change, but was willing to see if things were really as bad as he claimed. "Win now." "We will not surrender the Big 12 to Oklahoma and Texas." Oh, really? How about Oklahama, Texas, Texas Tech, Missouri, Colorado, and Kansas. Freakin' Kansas! "Rebuilding is not acceptable." Obviously. I don't know exactly what we're doing right now, but it's sure not rebuilding.
  9. This is pretty much the way I feel. Most of my animosity is really for Pederson and how he created this whole mess. I give BC a hard time because I didn't believe he was the right choice and I don't think he's going to work out. I could be wrong, though.
  10. Here's the numbers. Everyone can make their own conclusion and maybe we can put this thread to bed (something tells me everyone has made already made their conclusion, but) Bill Callahan: As Head Coach 27-27 As Offensive coordinator 40-35 As Offensive Line Coach 101-87 Total Record of all teams he's been involved with 174-157-5 So technically he's not a loser. But he doesn't look like much of a winner, either.
  11. Well we should be in good shape then because Callahan is essentially running what Chow installed at USC, right? Disclaimer: The above statment was meant to be humorous in light of the debates we've had concerning my experience with watching Norm Chow's offenses vs. Bill Callahan's offenses. It should not be construed as a desire to re-open the debate of BC's WCO vs Norm Chow's offense.
  12. Yes, but the Mountain West Conference has a TV deal with ESPN as well. If they don't pick up the game, there are restrictions on when it can be played, but the local channels can still show it.
  13. I would if I was closer. I'm heading down to Vegas instead to catch the BYU-UNLV game. So there's no TV at all on the Nebraska game? I was hoping to be able to catch some of it at the ESPN Zone or something. Which reminds me of a question I've always wondered. How come Nebraska doesn't show the games locally every week? The local channels out here carry Utah, BYU, and Utah State every week, even when they're not on the networks. They have their own sportscasters and do their own production. Of course the quality isn't as good as ESPN or ABC but at least you can see the game when the team is out of town. It would make even more sense in Nebraska what with Memorial always sold out. Anyone have an answer?
  14. Now that's more like it. I actually attended '91-'95, so my senior year was the '94 season. I have brothers who have played for MN. Many of my friends played for him. My cousin played offensive line for Crouch and was in his class. Everyone I talk to says that Petito gets outcoached on a routine basis. That he'll make calls in key situations that the other team sees coming from a mile away. I didn't know that they had made the playoffs every year since I graduated. Maybe I was jinxing them. But my brother who currently attends MN played for a couple of years there and doesn't think very highly of the coach. Good guy, just blows it when it counts. My point was that with all the talent that passes through MN, a good coach would have more than 1 state title by now. I never stopped reading the board, and posted a few times early in the season. Mostly that I didn't see what we were getting so excited about by barely beating Pitt and ISU and to comment on some people saying we would win the North. I post when I see something that's interesting to debate about or comment on. As the year moved on, there was more things being written that I want to talk about.
  15. But what about the offense? Overall it's worse. But I will give you that turnover thing. As I was looking at last season's stats, I didn't remember how many interceptions we threw. 10 less turnovers through 8 games is a big improvement. I just wish the offense could move the ball more. Also, Cory Ross has a QB rating of 581.2 this year. Maybe he should start under center this week.
  16. Just asking? I wish that along with the backhanded sarcasm, you would actually address what I say with some points. I enjoy the debate when it actually happens.
  17. Where exactly do you see ISU finishing in the north this year? I expect them towards the bottom with KU. Not really a turn around is it when none of the teams in the north are ranked, oh wait CU is 25th. I expect them to lose to KState this weekend and fight it out with KU for the bottom (that is if NU beats KU). ISU had one good year, and really that year they fell apart at the end of the season. Turn around? I don't think so! BTW, Iowa State is no KState. KState has made a BCS bowl, they had a shot and almost got to play for a national title, etc. I used a high school team because you don't get much more parity than that. There is no contracts, there is no recruiting. The team with the most talent doesn't always win in high school sports. I can show numerous examples where a highly talented team in high school didn't even go .500. I guess we could also use the NFL. The Patriots are not the most talented team in the NFL, but whalaa they have won the most Super Bowls the last 5 years. If college has so much parity, let's compare it to where there already is parity. I don't think college has much parity. I know nothing of Millard North, but I do know a little something about the coach and team at Papillion LaVista. Prior to his going there, they hadn't even had a winning season the previous 5 years. He comes in, and within 3 years wins a state title. I don't believe he's had a losing season. Yep, the talent just happened to come in when he took over coaching. Give me a break! I know about Millard North. And Newearthhusker mentioning it actually proves your point Junior. I went to Millard North and was actually there for a couple of years with Crouch. I was a senior when he took the starting job from a guy in my class as a sophomore. You are right when you say Millard North is talented. Even before Crouch there were enormously talented teams that should have been challenging for and winning state titles. They didn't even go to the playoffs all four years I was there. It's because Petito is a ridiculous coach. He's a good guy and all, but he can't gameplan or adjust and routinely got outcoached by teams with inferior talent. He couldn't even win a state championship with Crouch. A good coach would have won at least one, maybe two. He finally won one a couple of years ago. I didn't get a chance to see any games that season, but from what my brother told me, the team was just so ridiculously good and so far above everyone else that even Petito couldn't screw it up. Yes, Millard North often has had the most talented team in the state over the past 10-15 years...but they have won the state title once and missed the playoffs many times. Talent...or coaching?
  18. I didn't think Mizzou was overlooking KU, I was just giving overlooking a team as an example of something I think happens far more often than being drained after a big win. And I also didn't mean to say that being off after a big win never happens...Indiana Husker gave some examples when it did happen. My only point was I think the whole being off or drained after an emotional win point is overblown and I wouldn't count on Kansas reacting that way. I guess there's always a possibility though.
  19. yep one more year and this thread can come back up imo The thing is, I remember a lot of people on this board saying the same thing last year. Many said if we don't show a big improvement in record this year, Callahan should feel some heat. It seems to me the goals keep changing in so we feel like we're progressing. I'm not one that thinks he should be fired right now...I'm a realist. We're stuck with him. I just think people should be more worried than they are. Regardless of how much progress we think we've made...there was really no excuse for not at least challenging for the north title this year and last year. The division is just so bad. And there's no excuse for having the 96th rated offense. Transition or not.
  20. I've never bought this argument. I've seen teams lose because they overlook lesser teams when a more important game is coming up. But I don't think teams often come out flat after a huge win. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. Granted, Mizzou did it last week against Kansas, but we all know that MU is schizophrenic anyway. It wasn't the emotional high after the win against us, they're just inconsistent.
  21. Can you imagine what Vince Young would do to us? He's like a Brad Smith who can actually throw.
  22. Alex Smith had 135 rushes last year. If you take away the 18 sacks, that's about 10 rushes per game. And that doesn't count the rollout passes or the options that he pitched or shovel passed it. And he did that A LOT. Believe me, I watched the games. That doesn't sound like WCO with a little option mixed in. Just because Callahan says Urban Meyer was running the WCO, doesn't mean its true. I'd still like to read that interview with Meyer that you said you saw.
  23. Actually, CU had one hanging in their case before TO did. Let me get all of this hub ub straight. The spread option is basically a version of the WCO? I was always told FS recruited Dailey to run the spread option, and this is why Barney Cotton was hired as OC. So, basically FS was going to start running the WCO? Yeah. Doesn't make much sense does it? Nameless doesn't know what he's talking about. Meyer ran the option AT LEAST 10 times a game when he was at Utah. And like Nameless said it was dead and opponents alwasy sto....oh, wait a second...it was really successful. And I'll hold you to that prediction about Ohio, Nameless. He's got 4 this year already with 3 games left. And to borrow an argument from Husker Nation: "He doesn't have HIS players to run HIS system yet. Anyway, I want to be clear again that this is not an argument to bring the option back to Nebraska. We crossed that bridge long ago. But it really annoys me when people will make up things just to make themselves feel better about the current situation.
  24. The spread offense actually incorporates alot of what the original WCO use to before it got watered down by other versions. You have different variations of it depending on which school you are breaking down film on. A lot of the plays Florida St runs for example right now are similiar to what Urban is doing at Florida at the moment but with a different dimension to them. What irritates me the most is people who say the WCO can't work in the college level, specially in colder weather climates, the 1997 Packers would beg to differ who won a Superbowl with it. Urban Meyers practically built his offense after reading one of the most infamous West coast offense playbooks called Football's West Coast offense that was published in 1997. It has plays, formations, terminology, and how to gameplan against opposing coaches who run similiar offenses. If anyone TRUELY wants to understand why Urban Meyers became a hot coach overnight at Bowling Green and Utah, then pick up the book and read it. He's admitted in an interview that he's basically running plays from that book. Is that interview online somewhere...because I'd really like to read it. I'm not saying he didn't say it, but to somehow say that Urban Meyer and Callahan are running the same offense is just not true. The only way you can say that is if you never watched him coach. I'll admit I haven't watched a whole Florida game this year, but I saw plenty of Utah games last year, and it's not what BC is doing. And I never said the West Coast Offense wouldn't work in college...at least I don't think I did. I always maintainted that BC's version is too a tad difficult for the college player to grasp while not really fooling defenses enough to justify the complexity. And he can't gameplan....but I've said that already.
