  1. From what I'm reading, the people on this board either think that the talent at Nebraska sucks, or the talent in the rest of the Big 12 is that good. I just don't see it. Yes, The Huskers had a very poor season last year but to think that Nebraska does not have the talent that the rest of the Big 12 has is crazy. I just purchased the Athlons preseason book and in it, it says that the Huskers have NO CHANCE against Va Tech, Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Kansas. They also have the KSU and CU games as could be loses. Other than OU and UT, Nebraska's talent compares to any other team in the conference. QB- Ganz may not be an NFL prospect but in the Huskers system will be very good. He has the potential to be one of the top five in the conference HB- Lucky is on everyone's preseason top list. Add Helu, Castille and if healthy, Kenny Wilson, and the Huskers backfield is second to NONE Probably the best in the conference WR- Yes the big names are gone but the players that remain are very underated. Nate Swift has shown the ability to get open and make plays. At 6'4, Peterson is a very reliable threat. Menelik Holt has not played very much but even the commentors from the CU game thought he was Mo Purify. Holt could be special. There's plenty more talent in this group. Both Niles Paul and Chris Brooks were 4 stars coming out of high school and Curenski Gilleylen is as fast as any player in the conference. If the coaches can find a way to use this talent then this could be one of the best postions on the team. Can be one of the best in the conference OLine- Should be solid. They lose Carl Nicks but the returners have all been starters at some point. I don't see a weak link in the group Could be one of the best in the conference Dline- Underperformed severly last season but has the players to be very good. Ndamukong Suh, Zach Potter, and Kevin Dixon were all 4 stars coming into NU. Barry Turner had a very good season two years ago. He's capable of being pretty good. If they reach their potential, this group at least be average again. Probably middle of the road but has the talent to be one of the best Linebackers- The only unknown postion on the team. Phil Dillard is slimmer and should do very well at the middle spot. No one knows if Glenn will be a standout or not but he does have the speed and agility to be very good. This is the only postion group on the team that won't be near the top of the conference Seconday- Armando Murrillo, Rickey Thenarse, and Larry Asante were all 4 star prospects coming in to NU. Sanders will have the group looking for the ball in coverage. This group will actually produce turnovers this year. Could be one of the best in the conference Kicking- Henery and Titchener are as good as anyone in the conference. Kunalic probably has one of the strongest legs in the nation. Find a team other than OU or Texas in the Big 12 with more talent than the Huskers. If coaches can bring out the talent, the Huskers will shock many.
  2. Western Michigan Broncos @ NU – Broncos go to work early on the Huskers leading 14-7 in the first quarter. The Huskers led by the two headed monster of Lucky and Castille take a 21-14 lead in to the half. Broncos struggle to regain their 1st quarter swagger and fall behind 31-14 in the third. They respond by holding the Aggies to 10 points. Huskers roll 31-10. Ganz passes for 210 rushes for 35 Lucky rushes for 105 and gains 50 through the air Castille rushes for 20 Wilson rushes for 45 Helu rushes for 30 Virginia Tech Hokies @ NU – The most anticipated game thus far for both teams. Va Tech, coming off a narrow escape of the upset minded Tar Heels are still undefeated. They bring there A game to Lincoln and lead at the half 13-10. The battle continues in the second half with NU getting it done again through the ground. Va Tech, who's still struggling to find its running game due to offseason struggles, just can't keep up. Huskers pull off the upset 24-13. Ganz passes for 210 rushes for 25 Lucky rushes for 75 and gains another 65 through the air Castille rushes for 45 Helu rushes for 60 Missouri Tigers @ NU – Tigers, riding a three game win streak against cupcake opponents come in to Lincoln with high hopes but the revenged minded blackshirts aren't having it. NU 38- TT 14 Ganz- passes for 210 yards and rushes for another 35 Lucky rushes for 130 and gains 50 through the air Wilson rushes for 55 Castille rushes for 20 Helu rushes for 15 NU @ Iowa State Cyclones – The right arm of Joe Ganz is put on display against the struggling Cyclones. He throws for over 185 yards in the first half. Huskers lead 28-6. Witt makes his first game appearance for the Husker. but the ground game takes over for the Big Red. The Huskers roll 45-13 Ganz passes for 210 4tds Witt passes for 45 1td Lee passes for 20 rushes for another 35 Lucky, Wilson, Helu, Castille, Mendoza, and Lawson combine for 150 Swift and Holt lead the Huskers with 4 tds and over 130 yards in the air Baylor Bears @ NU – Husker fans expect a blow out but are in for a surprise. Baylor, led by freshman qb Robert Griffin comes out on fire. Pelini's defense can't seem to find a way to stop the Bears early on. They lead it at the half 24-14. Major adjustments are made by the Blackshirts. Turner, Potter, and the freshman Josh Williams are on fire. D Line comes through and the Offense gets it going. Husker's get it done in the end. NU 31 Bayor 27 Ganz 375 passing Lucky 110 rushing Helu 25 rushing Lawson 20 rushing Holt and Swift come through again with over 180 yards combined Gilleylen, Peterson, Paul, Lucky and Brooks combine for the other 195 NU @ Oklahoma – Both teams come in to the game 8-0. OU is ranked #2 while NU is ranked #15. Husker fans complain all week about lack of respect but outsiders complain that they haven't played anyone. The Sooners show why they are a title contender. At Halftime it's OU 21 NU 6. Major adjustments are made at the half by NU's offense. The Big Red rushing machine is back. At the end of the 3rd quarter OU leads it 28-20. The spread and read option continues to give the Sooners problems. Huskers march down field and get a score but are unable to come up with the two point conversion. Sooners run the clock down to 1:45. Ganz and the boys start their drive. Peterson makes some key catches for the Big Red to get them down to the 45 yd line with a few seconds to go. Huskers send Adi Kunalic to kick the game winner. It's blocked and the Sooners survive the upset. OU 28 NU 26 Ganz passes for 235 2tds and 2 ints and rushes for 30 Lucky rushes for 35 gains another 50 through the air Wilson rushes for 60 Castille rushes for 45 Lawson rushes for 25 Kansas Jayhawks @ NU – KU starts the season ranked in the top 25 but enter the game with a 5-4 record. The D line starts the tone early for the Blackshirts. Ndamukong Suh begins to realize his potential as he leads the Huskers with two sacks going in to the half. NU leads it 28-14. Reesing is under pressure all night and can't repeat the performance of a year ago. Huskers win big in Lincoln. NU 38- KU 17 Kansas falls to 5-5 Ganz 420 yards passing and 35 rushing Lucky rushes for 55 yards and catches around 80 yards. Wilson rushes for 30 yards Helu rushes for 20 Mendoza rushes for 10 and catches for another 40 yards NU @ Kansas State Wildcats – The struggling Wildcats have lost seven of their last eight games. The woes continue as Nebraska's Joe Ganz puts up 110 yards in the first quarter and 215 going in to the half. The Huskers lead it 27-3 at the half. The second half kickoff showcases the talents of Niles Paul as he takes it 89 yards to the house. Watson hands the game over to the running backs and the Wildcats can do nothing to stop it. Huskers win big. 52-17 Joe Ganz passes for 310 Witt passes for 40 Lee passes for 10 and rushes for 35 Lucky rushes for 70 and has another 75 yards through the air Wilson 25 Castille 15 Helu 35 Mendoza 40 Paul 120 yards and a score from kick returns. Another 75 yards and two tds Gilleylen 60 yards receiving Swift 50 yards receiving Colorado Buffaloes @ NU – The 5-6 Buffs are having another mediocre season while the Huskers are ranked in the top 10 for the first time in years. Buffs come in to Lincoln with the same game plan as last year. HB Sweep, WR Sweep, Reverse. Pelini's defense is not having it. Larry Asante looks like an all american as he has 4 stops behind the line. Both the offense and defense are rolling in the first half. NU leads it 35-7. Seniors Peterson and Swift have solid performances as the Huskers cruise to 56-7 win. Ganz throws for 275 rushes for 65 Witt throws for 25 Lee throws for 25 Davis throws for 10 and an int (Senior Night) Lucky 110 rushing Wilson 50 Castille 10 Helu 15 Lawson 30 Ganz throws for 3040 Lucky rushes for 1025 yards OU vs NU for the Big XII Championship - They meet for the second time this season. Both teams try to get it done through the ground. OU, lead by Murray takes the early lead again on the Huskers. They lead it 17-10 at the half. Huskers mix it up with a combination of play action, read options, and spread option. The unpredictable Huskers are able to get it done through trickery. Huskers have a 24-20 lead going in to the 4th. Huskers defense keeps OU in check but it's the Sooners defense that comes through in the end. Watson calls on Castille to pick up a 3rd and short but a fumble scoop and score for the Sooners will decide the game. OU wins again. Sooners 27 Huskers 24 Nebraska finishes the season tied with Missouri for first in the North. Sooners make the Fiesta Bowl while the Huskers are set to meet the Gators in the Sugar. -May seem far fetched but not impossible. Huskers don't play any unwinnable games this year.
  3. It's cool that you've been a Jayhawks fan even through all of the bad years. I still feel like KU fans will start dissapearing if they can't have another really good season. Do you honestly believe that Kansas will finish the season ranked in the top 10? Do you believe that they have a shot at making it to the Big XII championship game? If they are as good as they thought they were last year, then this is the year to prove it. You can't honestly believe that your Jayhawks will come away with wins against all of these teams. Colorado, Kansas St, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas, Texes Tech, and USF are all on the schedule. I doubt KU will even be in the top half of the North next year and as for the orginal question. Kansas will not snap their losing streak in Lincoln. People aren't giving the Huskers a shot, not because of talent, but because of what happened in Lawerence last year. They seemed to have forgotten that Kansas spanked the Huskers in Lawerence back in 2005, then lost in Lincoln in 2006. Kansas will NOT win in Lincoln! They do not have more talent than the Huskers.
  4. Chris Brooks only has two years left to play. I think that the coaches realize this and are trying to get Niles to step in and fill his spot. j/k Seriously though, I'm getting tired of hearing about how much talent NU is lacking. If Chris Brooks, Niles Paul, or even Meno Holt would've decided to play for any other school in the Big XII North, including Mizzou, their coaches would have had them on the field and making plays by now.
  5. North #1 Nebraska............... If Bo can fix the defense, Huskers can easily return to '06 North title form #2 Missouri................. Should have another solid year but the Tigers will struggle in Lincoln and in Austin #3 Colorado................ Has potential but Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma St., A&M, and Texas will be tough #4 Kansas St............... Juco's might be a temporary fix for the wildcats #5 Kansas................... Schedule includes Colorado, Tech, and Texas and games at NU, OU, and Missou #6 Iowa St.................. Has a lot of ground to make up before they can compete South #1 Oklahoma.............. Defending champs should be strong again #2 Texas Tech............ Defense is improved. Team could break through #3 Texas.................... Didn't meet team expections in '07. Hard team to predict #4 Texas A&M............. Decent team in a tough conference. Hard to see Aggies fighting for a top #5 Oklahoma St.......... Defense is expected to be bad. Could finish anywhere from 4th to 6th in the South #6 Baylor................... Not a very good team. Period
  6. We seemed to be the only team in the country with huge problems on defense. I understand that the d-line struggled last year but there is no way that Nebraska was the only team with problems up front. The line will be made up of the same players as last year. If things are to turn around, what changes have to be made? Will a recruit such as Josh Williams or Cameron Merideth give the team the help they need? Is blitzing the answer? Will the Huskers have to run a good zone scheme to make up for a lack of a d-line? Will there be a breakout performance from one of the players? What must be done to fix last years mess?
  7. I think maybe you're a bit too negative on the Jayhawks. I think the South Florida game could go either way, but I don't think they lose at home to CU. I think the TT game could go either way with the win swaying towards KU as again it is a home game. Right now, I think you have to say they have the edge in the NU game as well even though it's being played in Lincoln. I think they will definitely lose to OU, Texas, and Mizzou. I think they easily could be a 3-5 loss team in 2008, but I would be astonished if they lost 7 games this year. Looks like last year, doesn't matter what we do on the field. If we do well this year, everyone will be "down". Never mind being the only team to Beat A&M on the road, Va tech at a neutral site, CU in Boulder (ask OU, not easy), Oklahoma State on the road, K-State in Manhattan, 7-1 in the Big 12.... Facts Don't Matter, we did lose 2 good Junior players and a great defensive coordinator, but not much is changing. If Reesing is Healthy, I look forward to another years of excuses about another good KU team (Not banking on anywhere near 12 wins, but I see the deulsions are all in the negative direction, and I have a few hater bets out already...) Just saw on Kansas City TV that a defensive lineman quit the team because of a bad back and a cornerback was kicked off the team for "violating team policy" (which is often code for 3rd offense positive drug test, though I have no knowledge that this is true in this case) So Jayhawks are down 4 underclassmen in addition to __?__ seniors no longer elligible Let me go ahead and set the record straight: Two Kansas University football players have left the program, the school announced Tuesday. Senior defensive lineman Todd Haselhorst said he left the program for "health reasons." Junior cornerback Anthony Webb was dismissed for violation of team policy, according to KU football spokesman Mike Strauss. Haselhorst said: "I've always had stomach issues since I've been here. I've been throwing up every day during conditioning. It's that and I've been having back pain recently and I decided to hang it up." Haselhorst said he plans to attend classes at KU during the fall semester to complete the 12 credits he needs to graduate. He said he will attend all home football games "to support the team." "I've had a lot of fun in the program and they've given me some great memories," Haselhorst said. "It's a great bunch of guys and great coaches and there is no doubt in my mind they'll have success again this year if they do the right things, if they practice hard, work hard and do everything 100 percent all the time, like we did last year." Here is the deal haters-CB Anthony Webb doesn't even play and was barried on the depth chart and Todd Haselhorst sucks. He wasn't listed as the starter according to the coaches because a Redshirt freshman (Richard Johnson Jr.) beat him out. No worries from Jayhawk nation. This is for the best. I didn't even know that there were Jayhawk fans before last season! Wonder what they'll be like after they play Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, South Florida, Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado this year. Bet they'll all go back in to hibernation.
  8. What was the problem with the Husker secondary last year? They were filled with talent but struggled all season. Andre Jones and Cortney Grixby started the entire 2006-2007 season and the Huskers were able it to make both the Big XII championship and the Cotton Bowl. 2007-2008 season came around and they both struggled to get on the field. Senior captain Zack Bowman didn't get much p/t either. Tierre Green was also a starter in 06-07 so I really do not understanding where the problems came from. Was the loss of Andrew Shanle the problem? Did Jones, Grixby, Bowman, and Green all digress? Was it the lack of a pass rush? What was the problem and what should Coz have done to fix it?
