  1. She eats red meat, I saw the video. Nice...
  2. This has been commented on many a time, and I would suggest you look closer at the picture. Look at how dark the liquid is. If that were to be beer, it would be one dark beer, probably a very dark lager, which no one in their right mind would ever "beer bong." I've never "beer bonged" beer in my life, though, so I wouldn't know for sure. Anyway, the liquid is root beer, and from a keg of root beer that my dorm bought to throw an end of the year party for our campus. I'm thinking I'm going to take it down just to stop people from making assumptions. I'm not judging, at least in my opinion. All I said was that I lost some respect for him if in fact he is covering it up. I think that Christians are called to keep one another accountable, and although I do not have a personal relationship with T.O., as a Christian, I think that it holding him to a scriptural standard is something that I and every other Christian is called to do. I don't think I am any holier than T.O., if anything he is probably a better Christian than myself, but that doesn't mean that I should not look to keep him accountable. You do make a good point, though, that they have not commented on the situation. I hadn't thought about it in that way, and I appreciate you pointing that out. I would still be somewhat disappointed were that the case, but it is a bit different from straight-up lying about it. 'Macroboy' is 100% right. Judging is not in the Christian job description; that's God's business. God cares most about what is in your heart (good and bad), not what comes out of your mouth. It's like coveting, but not stealing...or lusting, but not cheating. It's being untruthful, but not lying. ...and you know what happens when you're untruthful, Doctor Tom. MUAHAHAHAHA!
  3. Can't forget Suh's attitude though. He knows he still has a higher potential to reach and so do his coaches. He's humble enough to get better and better. His performance leap last season was a big one. Imagine if it's as big or bigger this year. ...that could be scary good.
  4. Rob, I appreciate the cordial reply. My point is simply that the punishment that Paul receives should be based on the punishment defined for the rules he broke (and I agree that he willingly broke all of them). But if the discipline for those actions is not strong enough, then the discipline needs to be changed going forward. We don't have to change the rules on Niles Paul, in order for the next guy to follow a hardened disciplinary policy. It may send a message to some guys if he's exemplified, but I believe it's neither fair nor necessary to do it in mid-swing. Bo could sit this team down at any time and lay down the new rules (and if they're as extreme as a loss of a scholarship for a DUI, so be it). As long as the punishment is defined beforehand, it's each player's job to weigh the risks of his actions. If sitting out for a year was the punishment for a DUI a week ago, I wouldn't have anything to say about this. My contention is not really focused on the harshness of the punishment, but the fairness of it's application. I would be equally disturbed if the coaches did nothing and the rules demanded otherwise.
  5. If these two quotes are authentic... "I'll do what I want no matter what... the safety of those in the community does not matter --- I'll do what I'll do..." "I don't care about team rules or my coaches rules, or the reputation of the program and university --- I'll just do what I want anyway." ...then I'm right there with you guys. If not, those are wild and unfair assumptions. I myself have driven under the influence in the past (thankfully, without incident), but I never once made a conscience choice reflective of the attitudes mentioned in those statements. My thoughts in those cases were more like "I can make it home safely" or "Everything will be fine...", not at all the assumptive attitudes that you guys have built your latest responses on. You believe that Niles Paul committed these offenses with an intentional, conscience disregard for human life, as well as the people and organizations that support him. I don't believe that. I believe that Niles Paul is a 19-year old, who probably knew he wasn't doing the right thing, but did not consider the potential consequences strong enough to view them as reality. He probably thought that "Everything will be fine...", but he was obviously mistaken. In that regard, it makes him a lucky young man, guilty of poor judgment...not the arrogant individualist defined by those quotes. You didn't think you were invincible as a teenager in one facet or another? If Niles is anything like most people I have known, this sort of errant behavior comes more from ignorance to reality's consequences and inexperience, than it does some malicious or elitist attitude. The reason I continue to parallel this to speeding, is to supply a perspective that I think we can all relate to. Most of us have done it, and even though we know it's illegal, we've still done it. Why is that? Because we have a blatant disregard for the law, our families, or lives lost in speed related traffic incidents? No. It's because we think "Everything will be fine..." We don't intend to hurt anybody or even get caught, but in those situations we think the real risk (as we understand it) is justified. You probably figure you have a good excuse for going a couple extra 'mph' and wouldn't want people putting damaging quotes in your mouth if you get caught. Don't miss my point. I never once said Niles shouldn't be punished or held accountable for his actions. He is 100% accountable to the law, the community and the university for his transgressions. But in fairness, Niles himself is no more responsible for the next player's DUI than you are for the next guy's speeding ticket. He should be punished based on the rules that he broke, that were in place when he broke them. If the team needs a harsher penalty for this, the coaches can set a new policy in place, effective immediately. I just don't feel Paul's punishment should be beyond what is already established, in order to try and offset other people's offenses in the past and future. That's not justice. I think we all agree that any DUI event is bad news. We'll just have to agree to disagree on the punishment side of things.
  6. I just watched a clip hosted by Dave Webber, of the Omaha WOWT 'Sports Machine' from a few days ago. It was an update from a practice last week that Webber absolutely butchered. In a 10 second span, he referred to Menelik Holt as Will Henry, called out freshman "cornerblack" Anthony Blue, then reffered to Ekeler as "assistant Mark Papuchis". cornerblack...why wouldn't they edit that? http://www.wowt.com/sports
  7. Committing crimes? Give me a break.....you're acting like these were individual, sinister attempts to break the law and cause trouble. This is not armed robbery. The kid made a bonehead decision and is paying for it within the rules. In your entire life.....have you ever gone even a single, solitary mile per hour over the speed limit? Have you ever roll-stopped at a stop sign? Have you ever sped up to beat a yellow light? Failed to yield? Turned without signaling? If so, you've also technically committed crimes, so welcome to the ranks of the common criminal. If not, you need to understand that you are in the top .0001% of law abiding citizens in the world....and you are refined to a level of human nature and self-control that many of us would not dare dream of achieving. It's not fair for us to be on the same message board as you, let alone trying to hold ourselves to your standard. There's only one solution for this menace known as Niles "The Armed Robber of Death" Paul:
  8. There's something I don't understand here. If perfect angels can fly, what's the point of riding on those high horses? Seriously though....Niles is from an area where it usually takes more effort to stay out of trouble than it does to get in it. This kid has probably spent a majority of his life dodging his surroundings in order to hang on to a future. Some of you are sending the message that in comparison to one bad decision, 19 years of good ones means absolutely nothing. I hope he doesn't have to deal with people like this in prison person.
  9. Happy Cop says: If you get pulled over going 62 mph in a 60 mph zone, you should be arrested, forced to lose your job and made an example out of for the community. Speed kills and it's against the law....statistically, it's a factor in nearly all fatal motor vehicle accidents. But luckily I don't have to worry about that with you fine folks, because since you were teenagers, you've respected the law and haven't made any mistakes at all. Thank goodness!
  10. Trying to go beyond the disciplinary structure of the law and the team to make an example out of Niles Paul (as far as I know, a first time offender and a good student) is wrong. To date, outside of a little punt return fumblitis, you can't say anything bad about this kid. Now all of the sudden he needs to be publicly stoned to set an example for the university? That's not his job. If the leniency surrounding drunk driving laws is the problem, let's keep that the problem. Let's not make Niles Paul the poster boy for Hunter Teafatillering drunken driving. I'm certainly sympathetic to the losses mentioned, as I've experienced more of it throughout my young life than I care to discuss....but vilifying this kid as a form of prevention, is simply not fair. Many of us know better, but still end up making bad choices periodically. Some of those choices can be more destructive than others, but the law deals with outcome and intent...not possibilities. The punishment should fit the crime. The crime was underage drinking and driving...and 8 mph over the posted speed limit. Niles will have to deal with his state/county officials, as well as his team's officials. Why should he be punished beyond what rules are already set in place for this offense? For the record, if he was at K-State....he should be in jail anyway.
  11. 2:08am...I don't remember ever doing anything beneficial to my life at 2:08am. I just saw this video about Niles Paul yesterday; about how great of a student he was and his character on and off the field.
  12. I agree with the point about Snyder not doing anything yet. This is a list of where coaches rank in this league right now. This is not some historical or all-time list of Big XII coaches, neither is it a list that ranks expected coaching performance in the next 5 years. Snyder has a lot going against him. Regardless of what he did before, Kansas State is once again Kansas State. Snyder has been on a multi-year hiatus from coaching and is probably going to take a while to build a solid staff and good chemistry. Beyond that, he's taking over a mediocre team, a bare cupboard (for his system anyway) and with Missouri and Kansas' recent success, recruiting is going to be even harder this time around. I realize he's turned things around at KSU in the past, but he couldn't sustain it for the long haul. With all the odds against him, he's one of the most unproven current coaches in the league with one of the toughest climbs ahead. Except for the fact that he turned around the program around over a decade ago, what makes anybody think that Snyder isn't starting at the bottom in Manhattan this year? Coaching performance is measured by present results, not ideals or the last decade's successes. 2 cents
  13. When I was 18, I passed up a hot girl who was 20, to date a hotter girl who was 15.....who looked like she was 19. Anyway, her birthday was exactly 1 week after mine, so I was 3 years and 7 days older. We dated until I was 20, so technically, our relationship was perfectly legal.....except for 7 days out of every year when I became a felon. I think that's ridiculous, but that's probably only because of my disinterest in prison.
  14. Common sense is telling me that you leave a program at this stage of the game for one of two reasons: You're not expecting to be the starter...and you can't handle it. You're expecting to be the starter...and you can't handle it. A sophomore with a "bright future" is not going to lose a year of eligibility to avoid being the starter at Nebraska.
  15. The article doesn't say, but I think this happened in the afternoon. I was at Papio Bowl with some family on Sunday around one o'clock, when about 5 or 6 guys came in. They really didn't look like they came to bowl, because half of them still had their coats on after awhile, sitting back a bit from the lanes. I was suspicious for a bit, because I started to get the impression they were waiting for something. Personally, when I see group of grown men browsing around a bowling alley bar on a Sunday afternoon, one wearing an over-sized "I ain't scared of no po-po's" shirt, I keep an eye on them. Nothing happened while we were there. In retrospect, I did see a smaller guy with them wearing glasses (he almost looked out of place). Now I'm thinking that must have been Cortny. I told my wife about the article. She remembered the big guys, but also thinks they were there with some children. I don't remember seeing any kids with them. It's sad when the life discipline and leadership skills don't leave the field with kids. When sports are no longer a lucrative reality, the failure to build a solid backup plan within their education really hits hard. Article Link
  16. Very informative article. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Somebody put Phillip Dillard's head on Suh's body.
  18. You mean a huge "Suh" of relief
  19. Just a little story to pass the time until signing day and spring ball: My wife and I were at Nebraska Furniture Mart (Omaha) today. While we were walking toward the TVs, I noticed a couple of familiar faces. Cody Green and Mike Ekeler were walking in the opposite direction. They seemed to go largely unnoticed, but perhaps that's because a handful of nerds like myself were simply turning to their disinterested wives to explain the 'situation'. I didn't see Coach Ekeler buying him anything, so I can happily report that no NCAA violations were witnessed. On a side note, I let Matt Shick go ahead of me to refill his drink at Pepperjax Grill during lunch. I wanted to confirm whether or not he was the infamous "Bill in Lincoln", but I didn't bug him. It was kind of an odd morning....
  20. I think that's a huge thing, that he used the word "we" in his dialogue about Nebraska. When he talked about Michigan, he referred to them as "they'...and he didn't use any possessive words when discussing Maryland. I would bet a nickel he'll be a Husker. "I remember everybody's name.....which is rare" (even Dr. 'Rob' Osborne)
  21. My MVP is Joe "Pony Boy" Ganz....hanz down. One thing to keep in context with Ganz too, is that prior to this season, he only had 3 games of starting experience. This kid was brand new, but played and led like a veteran all season. If you could pick one player to keep for another year (that is out of eligibility), who would it be? I'd take Ganz.
  22. This was posted in August....NU's record had nothing to do with anything at the time This thread is 4 or 5 pages long. I'm going to assume you read the entire thing including the back and forth replies as it matured You come on here and read a 5-month old post and then reply AFTER the season about how Missouri owns Nebraska and the North....Our coach has been around for one year and we're one conference win behind your 'ownership' of the North... This post was derived by reading multiple postings on this board alone about how great MU and KU were because of one good season. KU fans were going to win 10 this year and beat NU at home...and MU fans were talking National Championship all the way. That's going to be tough next year, as in my opinion...both teams are on the fall from last year and NU is rising. Losing your star players isn't going to help any. If you want to see hundreds of posts on the topic, just search the board. In fact, there are many posts within this thread about it I'm not going to reply directly to your "grow up" comment I'm sorry if this thread has offended you, but that's not the goal around here. In my experience, we typically get along great with fans from other teams that post.
