  1. Does it really create an advantage, though? What 'numbers and leverage' did you see against Iowa? Are we really accounting for LBs at the second level? Because the actual results of what's happening on the field don't reflect what you're trying to tell me here AT ALL. The leading rusher for Nebraska this season was Adrian Martinez - by A LOT -, and a good deal of his yards came from scrambling on pass plays. Our running backs have very little space to run, and people are definitely NOT getting blocked. Please explain why a sane person would want to continue doing more of what we have been doing? I'm not saying to do away with zone blocking altogether - the service academies zone block every few downs, too. But we don't have a mindset of domination - like we can't block a defensive linemen unless it's 2 on 1. That's just weak. I know that Iowa has always used zone blocking in their scheme, and it plays very well into their boot game. But, do you know what else they have? A fullback to lead block as well. What a concept.
  2. Frost might be a bust, but so was Riley, and change was definitely needed. It's just too bad Frost walked into Lincoln thinking he could bring us back with just a playbook and some platitudes.
  3. My line of thinking isn't so much about Trev, as it is the pool of available, qualified coaching candidates. Guys that could really come in to Lincoln and turn things around like we wanted from Scott. Is the Brinks truck all that's needed to get a big name and make us relevant again, or has that ship sailed?
  4. If they go after Willy Korn, and a good special teams guy, things could get interesting. If not? 3-4 wins, max. The real problem is, if Trev axes Frost, who does he hire? What options would he even have?
  5. I would contend Yant and Scott would do nearly as well behind a line that blocks like Wisconsin. They have no room with our zone-blocking, patty-cake scheme that leaves at least one linebacker unblocked on every play.
  6. With our offense as it is now, our 2 best receivers left, and one is setting records in Kentucky. What QBs have we gotten in the last 18 years that set the world on fire? Behind this line, would Joe Burrow have gotten the Heisman?
  7. 1) Who in the Legends division that year was on probation? Didn't we beat all of them with Pelini's 2010s Big 12 defense to earn our way into the title game, including Wisconsin? 2) Goodson had 7 yards a carry. Iowa can line up with a fullback and run the ball. Why can't we? 3) How is Nebraska going to be successful at all if they keep trying to do the same things, run the same offense, lose out on the same recruits, etc.
  8. Maybe. Question, though. Did either of these guys even get the ball once today? Did they get it a whole lot during the season? Can we recruit like Clemson and Alabama?
  9. In the past 18 years, trying to throw the ball, Nebraska has nothing to show for it. Why keep trying to do what everyone else is doing, and continue to fail? We made it to the B1G Title game once, and what did Wisconsin do to absolutely DESTROY us? I'll give you a hint. It wasn't by throwing.
  10. Ohio State and Oregon can do these things because they are Ohio State and Oregon. We are not them, nor will we EVER be. We have tried zone blocking schemes for, what, 18 years now? What do we have to show for it? We don't have guys like Stroud, Olave, Smith-Njigba. Never have, never will. We can't 'dominate the college football landscape' with these types offenses, because we're nowhere CLOSE to getting the best players for it. Why do we need to be super complex? What's wrong with simple, but effective?
  11. Agreed, but at the same time, Air Force can't recruit like we do. Nearly every team they play is far more talented than they are. Georgia Tech can't really recruit all that well, either. I also agree that there has been progress, but I see Frost's offense as one of the main issues holding us back. We try to throw, pass block, straight drop, get sacked, safety, etc. In a run-based offense, you keep the clock running, keep the defense rested and off the field, and wear out the defensive front. Get some of their back-ups in, and push them around. Get them loading the box, and drop one over their head, a football tale as old as Knute Rockne. It's who we are as a state. Hard-nosed, hard-working, lunch-pale type people. We are skeptical of flash-in-the-pan, too-good-to-be-true type things. Success and victory is only achieved through pushing through, not the easy way. Nebraska football was built on this. Down after down, play after play, run after run - being TOUGHER than the other guys. It was something we used to cherish and be proud of. I miss it.
  12. We're 3-9. No post season for 5 years in a row now. THAT'S pee-wee football. Air Force just got their 9th win tonight. They destroyed UNLV and their ultra-mega-awesome-spread passing offense 48-14. They're in the hunt for the Mountain West championship, and had a bowl game locked up weeks ago. If that's pee-wee football, I'll take it over 3-9.
  13. We have an offensive line. Each young man is a rarity in the human population. Tall, huge, heavy, and strong. Collectively, I'd bet they could push a blocking sled that literally weighs a ton. They're being coached to do things that don't suit their size and strength. Imagine if a coach could come in and teach Benhart, Corcoran, Bando, and Prochazka how to effectively drive-block a defender, one on one. Get a lead blocker, and it's a 4 yard gain, at least, every play. Do it over and over, until you break the will of the team trying to stop us. Wouldn't that be something? Not many safeties in that scenario. But I dream.
  14. I would take your analogy if your opponent scratched the 8 ball 9 times out of 12, the last 6 times in a row. Frost thinks he can win games with a playbook, but what it really takes is fundamentally executing football plays. The simple things, the little things. We don't do those things. Iowa does.
  15. I hate Iowa, but if their brand of football is 'boring' wins, I would take that all day, every day over our 'exciting' losses. They beat us today by playing fundamentally sound, all three phases of the game, solid football. Goodson averaged something like 7 yards a carry. We went from running the ball very well to fancy-dance passing crap and folded like a lawn chair. Congratulations to Iowa and Kirk Ferentz for valuing consistency and fundamentals in the face of flash, smoke, and mirrors. I still hate you.
  16. Or an offense where we don't give up 2 sacks in a row inside our own 5, the second being for a safety. An offense where we try to block defenders one on one, instead of zone blocking every play. 80-20 ratio.
  17. At this point, what gives you any indication that Frost is going to even get us to a bowl game, much less contend for the B1G West? I want Frost to succeed, but it's pretty obvious by now that he's in over his head.
  18. 3-9. That's the stat that matters. No one cares about how close we were. At the end of the day, we're 3-9, and tied for last. We did pretty well with Chadwell-type stuff, so if Frost would take the offense in that direction, I would have hope. I guess we'll have to see.
  19. Stats are for losers. The only stat that matters is the score, and we've averaged 23 points per game against FBS competition under Frost. That's NOT a solid scheme. In fact, that SUCKS. You don't know what a flexbone offense would do against the B1G. Army has done well against both Michigan and Wisconsin with a FRACTION of our talent, so you literally couldn't be MORE wrong. This scheme in Lincoln has never won anything of significance. We're one of the worst teams in the conference. A doormat. It's idiotic to want to continue doing the same crap that has gotten us here.
  20. Sorry, bro. Don't put yourself in a position where you have to count on us and our pansy offense.
  21. And we're 3-9. Congrats. Thank you for wanting more of the same. We don't get sacked, AND THEN sacked for a safety if we're running flexbone. I'd love to get a clue as to why anyone wants to keep doing this kind of crap. 60% isn't nearly enough.
  22. We don't get sacked on 1st and 10 at our own 6 if we run A-back Counter. We don't get sacked for a safety after that if we run a dive with the B-back.
  23. If Frost doesn't commit to a running offense next year, he should be gone. This was an absolute coaching disaster.
  24. It wasn't Adrian. It's the offense. Everyone giving me crap for wanting to run Flexbone. We win this game going away today if we ran flexbone. Defense gave up 1 touchdown. We've been trying to pass for 7 years, and it DOESN'T WORK.
