  1. Well they really didn't have a lot of options to choose from, to be honest. I mean they probably should have chosen our game, considering it's the two closest ranked teams playing on Saturday (to my knowledge). I see their logic, in that Tech pulled off a huge upset last year and now Texas wants revenge, but come on. Tech's QB from last year is gone and so is Michael Crabtree. This game is going to be a win for Texas in the 42-18 range. Doesn't seem worth it to travel down there to watch that.
  2. Saturday, I found myself feeling the same way except just oppositve. When Michigan was playing Notre Dumb, I couldn't help but finding myself hoping both of them would lose. I did the same thing while watching UCLA and Tennessee play hoping both of them could find a way to lose. Haha me too. I wish there was a way they could have both lost, but I was actually happy to see Michigan win simply because it put Notre Dame back in there place OUTSIDE the top 25. No way Lou Holtz-s-s-s prediction of them winning the MNC is going to hold up now.

    VT -3

That's what I was thinking too, because I couldn't remember exactly how much home field advantage gives you but I figured it was about 3 points.
  4. This is sort of futile. If you want the students in the student section to all act like upstanding citizens, then go ahead and try. My guess, however, is that you'll probably have as much luck doing that as you would going over to Iraq and Afghanistan and telling the men that keep killing our soldiers to stop hating the U.S. and planning our demise. As you said in your OP, the whole vagina thing was a MINORITY of the student section, and not the majority. Plus from where I was sitting, it seemed like it was mostly the people in South Stadium doing the sign from where I was sitting, and not the East student section. South usually has the youngest students in it as in Freshman, Sophomores, and everybody else that couldn't get East tickets. Maybe we should have a behave-out, where all the students buy shirts that say "I'll behave" and we can sit and be modest onlookers the whole entire game and not fuel the crowd like we always do.
  5. I don't think it is as wide as open as it may appear. I think the North has a better shot this year than they did last, but not by much. For example, Texas still has the best athletes in the conference position by position. They also still handled that Wyoming team in the second half once they got things rolling. Idk how long Gresham will be out at Oklahoma, but it is possible that Bradford could be back come game time in Lincoln. OSU is going to rebound after that embarrassing loss to Houston. Gundy will find a way to get more out of them. Their hopes of pulling any upset and making it to the B12 title game, however, were greatly diminished after this weekend.
  6. I was definitely looking for a flag on that since it was pretty obvious and very near where the ball was at the time. I watch a lot of college football and there is simply a lot of bad officiating going on all over the place, not just at our games. As stated, they are human and I normally don't get overly upset unless it interferes with the outcome or if it's just bad from start to finish. A few missed calls, or miss-calls are going to happen, though. I noticed the block in the back while watching highlights (couldn't see it from my seat) but there was a ref literally parallel to that point on the side line. I'm amazed he missed it. I know they are human, but they made/missed calls yesterday that are borderline horrendous. The one that standouts in my mind is the hit on Eric Martin. Other ones that should have been paid more close attention to was the first fumble ASU had and the block in the back. Not saying I'm upset that they didn't flag us, but there are enough refs on the field to the point of where many of these calls should have been made.
  7. Good guess. I know some people don't like to go to Blacksburg because of the huge clusterf*ck of things you have to do just to get there haha. Props to VaTech for making their stadium inaccessible
  8. What did you expect? Everybody thinks ESPN hates their team. Truth of the matter is that they can't cover everybody all at once. Besides, I don't give a sh*t if ESPN doesn't cover us. When we start making splashes against big teams, then we will speak for ourselves. Besides, those four quarterbacks you listed are part of very prolific offenses and one of them is a Heisman winner. Our offense didn't consistently dominate teams last year and we have a "who is that?"quarterback that hasn't played in a big game yet.
  9. Week 2 polls are as meaningful as nutritional labels to Mangino. They are there but you don't pay attention. Polls are meaningless now and at the end of the season. Perfect example was Texas getting knocked out of the big 12 championship game after winning the head to head against OU. Maybe OU was a better team and just had a bump in the road, but things should be decided on the field and not partially based on opinions. You know polls suck when Notre Dame beats a poor Nevada team and gets ranked #18, and then they lose by 4 points to a Michigan team that will probably only barely become bowl eligible this year.
  10. Yeah well, they're talking heads, like you said. They pride themselves on finding fun and interesting stuff for everybody to talk and think about. For once, Lou Holtz actually had our back and said that we were not overrated. But if you look at how things have set up recently, you could consider us overrated, but I don't agree with them. OU loss to a good BYU team, but they didn't have their starting quarterback. People will say "yeah but Bradford struggled throughout the first half". Has anybody ever seen a game that Bradford struggled the ENTIRE game through? Even though they lost to Florida, he still had a good showing during certain portions of the game. I'm sure he would have stepped it up a notch and OU would have won had he not been injured. Texas is Texas. Struggle against lesser teams, find ways to win against big time teams. It's the same story for them every year. OSU proved they are overrated. They had one chance this off season to prove they deserved the hype, and they proved it. Next week they go and lose to Houston? They are the same story every year as well. The Big 12 North is the same as always. A lot of potential that doesn't translate into beating the South. MU won't be the Big 12 North champ this year, and it's going to come down to KU and NU. I give NU the nod just because KU has to face all those tough South opponents this year. So yeah, the talking heads will be talking heads. But they do raise a fair point, in that the Big 12 "powers" didn't have great showings early in the season. They'll be eating their words come season end, when they see a Big 12 team in the National Title game again.
  11. The Good: Without question Zac Lee. Had one of the best individual QB performances we have seen. The Bad: The running game. It seems to me that they think if Helu isn't getting over 100 yards in less than 15 carries then they are going to slow him down and hold back on his touches. You simply can't do that. I don't care if they are worried about him being injured. Some games you have to give your play maker 20-25 touches. It doesn't have to be a consistent thing, always giving him those touches, but I'm sure with a few more carries he could have had some explosive runs. The O-line just wasn't blocking well yesterday. The Ugly Run defense and penalties. Our D-line seems to be going solid, but it's more or less the line backers not reading and plugging the right holes which has a lot to do with youth and inexperience. NU has still shown a lot of vanilla stuff defensively, so that has something to do with it, but we still need to execute our easier defensive plays. And penalties, we had 3 for 40 yards. Two personal foul penalties and a holding call. Honestly, those are two of the easiest penalties to not get if you just play smart.
  12. I was in the Northeast endzone and was watching Martin on the whole play. Both sides were being physical and the ASU guys took Martin down and were on top of him. They were on top of him for quite a while and they were doing something to Martin. Martin was kind of pushing back to get them off, but they wouldn't let him up. So yeah Blackshirt I saw it from the east side and we were all yelling over there for the refs to do something. Sorry to throw this in too, but that holding call on Paul's touchdown catch that got called back...did that flag come like after we scored the touchdown? I mean it seemed like a really late flag to me. And I can say it since I am just a fan, but these refs sucked. Oh yeah and the fumble...was a fumble. They reviewed and still said it wasn't...yeah refs you guys suck and too bad we can't tell you not to officiate for us anymore. Thanks for all the insight as to what happened guys. I don't want to sit here and lay out the refs for the game they called, but it does seem to be a recurring event that they don't make the best of calls nowadays (but when have they?). I saw the replay once, and you could see the ball pop out about half a second before his knee hit the ground. It should have been a fumble, but maybe they pulled out the ol' "must have irrefutable evidence" shtuff. I still think it should have been a fumble though. And on the 70 yard touchdown pass, I noticed the flag while Paul was running past the ASU 40 yard line, so it had been on the ground by the time he had crossed the endzone. I remember specifically because I looked back towards the line of scrimmage and saw the flags. I stopped celebrating as soon as Paul hit the 40 or so ASU yard line because a flag back there is usually a 50/50 shot between a late hit penalty or holding, and I remember seeing Zac Lee still standing.
  13. Here are some important stats from last year's game between VaTech and NU. Don't forget that this is roughly the same team from a year ago, except they don't have their starting running back and lost a few defensive starters. VaTech: 1) They had 55 running attempts for 206 yards, averaging 3.7 yards per carry. 2) Had 171 net yards passing, and Taylor went 9 for 15. 3) Controlled T.O.P. 34:44 to 25:16. NU: 1) Had 25 attempts for 55 yards. 2) Had 7 penalties for 69 yards. 3) Had three fumbles and lost 1. I think these stats show us a couple things. First of all, they are most definitely going to run the ball and we are going to have to be pretty stingy about it. But on the positive side, when a team runs 55 times and you hold them 206 yards, that isn't necessarily all that bad. We have to be able to run the ball against them to be successful. Second of all, it's apparent that when they pass they go for the big play, which is something we're going to have to limit. If he gets 171 yards passing on 9 completions, it shows they really don't like to throw the ball unless it is going to prove very beneficial. Third of all, we are going to have to cut down on the penalties and fumbles if we are going to have a shot. We toned them down against ASU, but we still had nearly 40 yards taken away thanks to 3 penalties. We have yet to fumble the ball and have only thrown one interception in the last two games, which means our ball control is going great. But, VaTech has a solid defense, one much more talented than the ones we have faced. Ball security needs to be a huge point of emphasis this week. If we can get Helu and Burkhead a good amount of touches, limit penalties, and maintain ball security, we are going to win and possibly have a big day against VaTech. Lack in those three areas, and we are going to face a similar outcome like last year.
  14. How in the hell Notre Dame still manages to receive 40 votes is beyond me. I wonder what Lou Holtz-s-s-s is saying now that Notre Dame got beat by a not so great Michigan team that will probably just barely become bowl eligible this year. Impressive jump for Houston though. That was an unbelievable game against OK St., one I would have never seen coming.
  15. NO! If Lester was anywhere near the level of McKnight, he would be on the field playing. Idk if you guys watched the OSU v. USC game last night, but McKnight obliterated that OSU defense on USC's game winning drive. He made brilliant cuts and had flashes of speed that resembled another former great USC running back, Reggie Bush.
  16. Yeah I think this thread is going down the drain, and it did from the start. Simply put, it doesn't matter how much any of you would wish some members of the student section would "grow up", because it's not going to happen with everybody. It's like saying you wish the whole world would grow up and act their age, and we all know their are millions of immature @$$holes out there. Alcohol and football games don't mesh well together. I don't condone the pu$$y thing by any means, but as long as their are young kids who think the world is theirs (which will be forever), then stuff like this is going to happen.
  17. So, I don't remember what part of the game it was, but at some point their was a bit of a scuffle on the field, one of our players removed his helmet, got a personal foul call, and then collapsed on the field in pain. All I saw was two guys on top of him during the kickoff, and then them getting into a little argument. Anybody see what happened? I missed it and didn't hear any of the announcers on the radio after the game talk about it.
  18. Couple things: 1) As another poster said, the people who are students here (myself included) are still young college kids who don't give a damn and will do what they want. I happen to be one of the people who discourages chants like "bullsh*t bullsh*t" and other things like that, because I don't think it's appropriate. But, they're still college kids and they're going to do what they want. I didn't like the hand gesture, either. 2) The student section is always louder than the rest of the stadium and is standing the entire game. It's not like the rest of the stadium that spends most of the time sitting and watching except when something good happens. We're always up and ready. I don't think it's fair to bash anybody for wanting to leave the game early when it was obviously going to be a big win for us. Plus, when you spend the entire game yelling, screaming, and standing, there isn't a lot of gas left in the tank come the end of the game when you already know you're going to win. Some people just lose the wind in their sails and are ready to get going. Plus, it was ASU, not Oklahoma or some other big game.
  19. Is Marshall as good as UNO? hahaha that's what I was thinking. Not cracking on Va Tech, because they are solid in the running game, but rolling up 444 yards against Marshall doesn't say anything about how they will do against a competitive team. ..... But the SOMEWHAT porous run D we have shown is worrying The biggest problem with our running game is the inconsistencies at linebackers. They just aren't making the right reads and plugging the holes, and a lot of that has to do with youth and inexperience. These guys have two games under the belt, so we can expect them to do some better things. They have shown flashes of greatness, but need to make it more consistent. And, like a few others have said, it was Marshall, a very very poor football team. I think we would have had a similarly successful day if they had been playing us today.
  20. Waaaaaaaaay too soon to tell. Too soon to say that Watson is one the better OC's in the nation? Why is that? Way too soon to tell that Watson will be here for awhile. He is open about the fact that he wants to be a head coach, and he'll take the job somewhere if he thinks it will fit him. Bo is going to support him in whatever decision he decides to make. If he gets offered a job he likes by the end of this season, he'll strongly consider taking it. Edit Just got this quote from Watson during the Big Red Welcome: After seeing this quote, maybe Watson does really want to stay here? But we'll have to see. I think he will strongly consider a change if he likes it. After all, he did interview for another job last year.
  21. I think some of you guys aren't giving credit to what BSU has done. Like one poster said, over the last few years they have been a much better team than us. If we played right now it'd be a close game. BSU has a lot of talent and a great coaching staff. We can't forget, a lot of people doubted and reamed BSU before their BCS win over Oklahoma. Very few people saw that as a possibility, but it happened. Can't underestimate them.
  22. not too far fetched... Brandon Rigoni is on the staff, he is such a nice kid! Really? Didn't know that. He was a beast on special teams, though.
  23. Arkansas St. has better players at more positions than FAU did. They have playmakers on offense and a strong player on the defensive line. But, at the same time, they aren't MUCH better. Arkansas St. is making people think real hard just because they blew out that high school team a week ago (sorry, had to do it ). They will give us more of a challenge than FAU did, but it's not going to be something to worry about. The biggest match up I'm looking at is our Wide Receivers vs. their DB's. According to an article I read, ASU has no DB above 200 pounds and nobody to match our wide receivers for height. ASU sacrifices size for speed. All of our receivers are over 200 pounds (the starting ones at least), have an average height to around 6'2" to 6'3", and have the speed to match with anything ASU throws at them. They blocked very well in last week's game against bigger players than what ASU has to offer, so expect perimeter blocking to be excellent this week.
