  1. Georgia Tech and Navy have been running it recently, with some success. It's not like we couldn't run the Option here again, and have it work. It's a completely viable offensive system with the correct personnel. We just don't have the correct personnel, and the way it looks, we're not about to go out and get them anytime soon. Watson's offense controls the clock, moves the ball and puts points on the board. If it ain't broke... You kind of touched on this but I think I'll expand more.. Not only do we not have the correct personnel, I don't think Watson would be able to effectively run the option. Running the option effectively takes a lot of skill. Plus let's face it, is there anybody that we feel could take us to great places if Zac Lee got hurt running the option? We've got a bookcase full of young, unproven guys. We don't have a bunch of Brook Berringer's sitting around.
  2. Me too. I love watching the last couple minutes of this game. And HEY!!! The T.V. is finally playing a game Nebraska wins!!!!!
  3. I put 30-40 simply for a couple reasons: 1) It's in Blacksburg. We struggled in Lincoln, which means it will be even harder down there. 2) Match-ups. Our offense vs. their defense, I would give VaTech the edge. With returning starters they possess and the tough defense they play, our offense will have it's work cut out for it. Our defense vs. their offense is a pretty even match up. They don't have a lot of break out players except for Taylor, which is going to be our biggest problem. The last time we faced a fast quarterback, he torched us for over 100 rushing yards (Griffin). If we can contain Taylor and force him to make a lot of throws, well then I think we'll be fine. 3) Special Teams. Despite our punt return last year, VaTech played extremely tough special teams. They blocked quite a few punts and field goals last year, more than what Nebraska managed. They also put a heck of a lot of emphasis on special teams. This could very well be the key to the game for us. Two new starters and long snapper and place holder won't benefit us.
  4. I must disagree with you on this for two reasons. 1) Even though Ohio State has a knack for blowing it in big BCS bowl games recently, are you saying they can't recruit and neither can the Big 10+1 in general? If so, you are poorly mistaken. Lets take a look at the 2009 recruiting rankings: #1-Ohio State, #4-Michigan, #10-Michigan State, #19-Penn State. Now I'm not saying that I put a lot into recruiting rankings, but statistically speaking four of the Top 25 recruiting classes came out of the Big 10. 2) If those four teams can still get highly touted recruits, whats to say Nebraska can't? Our traditions are just on par with OSU and Michigan if not slightly better in some areas. We would have equal opportunities against many recruits which means we would get at least a few to pull through for us. Further more, we also can't argue that it would be harder because of those teams because I think we have the toughest conference to recruit in. Texas, Oklahoma, and a lot of the other Texas schools get the pick of the litter and then everybody else gets left overs. We have to go up against them every year in recruiting. I would almost argue it would be easier to recruit if we were in the Big 10. I'm definitely not saying we should go to the Big 10 because I would not like it at all, but the recruiting point you made just baffles my mind.
  5. I think this belongs in former Huskers? Either way, when I think of Terrence Nunn all I think about is dropped balls and fumbles.
  6. Well, going by what your thread title says, I think any age is great! You just have to realize that they are probably going to be a pain in the ass. I think you should take him. The atmosphere at a Husker game is a lot different than a stars game, so he may end up being more willing to sit through it. But with any kid, being in the same place for too long will result in the kid getting bored quickly. I, for one, didn't enjoy full Husker games till I was around the age of 10. Before that, I would have much rather played with my Hot Wheels then watch the game. I think it's worth it, personally. Hopefully it will be a blow out (whichever game you take him to) so leaving early won't be that hard to stomach.
  7. I'd bet that Helu is a 4.45 type of guy. But yeah, 4.2...even I don't believe that hype. As much as I'd like to believe it, there is no way. With his size the best he could probably do is a 4.4 or roughly in the area. Running backs have to have added weight on them because of the hits they take. It's easy for corners and safeties to be small and have the 4.2 speed because they don't need to be as bulked up.
  8. I don't really care where the game is. Yeah, it's in Texas, but who cares? Even if it is closer to all the Southern schools, in my eyes they have somewhat earned it. They keep staying good and the North keeps staying mediocre. Plus, I don't think location matter necessarily. Flash back to the 1994 Orange Bowl. Miami was practically at a home game there, yet Nebraska was still able to squeak out a win. I do agree that a domed championship game would be a lot better as far as weather is concerned, though. It will allow for both teams to concentrate more fully on the game than be distracted by weather.
  9. Simply put, it is one of those 'milestone' numbers. People enjoy celebrating those definitive numbers because they are even and they sound cool. Nobody wants to say "Oh look we have sold out 307 games!" People would rather focus on 300 because it has a ring to it. Why do people celebrate 50 years of marriage? Because it has a better ring to it and it seems more like of an accomplishment than the number 49. Not celebrating our 300th sell out would be like not giving a rat's ass in 2076 when America hits our 300th anniversary. We enjoy big round numbers because they have a bigger impact, and that is the best way that I can say it. Would you say a guy rushed for 923 yards or say he rushed for about 1,000 yards? Which sounds better?
  10. Especially Asante. I don't see how someone can get beat so many times and still play!! Because he's the ASSASSIN!!!
  11. I didn't lose audio. Update your audio drivers if you are having troubles. I was nervous there to see when Suh would speak but he's up right now with the Big12Sports.com guy. I thought Bo had a great interview. Classy and compelling.
  12. It makes me very optimistic to see that out of the 11 key players they discuss (Suh and the other 10), 5 of them come from the front seven (even though Dillard may not even be the starter). We might end up having one of the best defensive lines in all of college football this year.
  13. I wouldn't count on it. The OU game is our best shot, but Ohio St will be playing Penn St that same week, so unless we go into the game undefeated, I doubt ABC/ESPN will chose Lincoln over the Big10 and Happy Valley. The TT @ NU is even less likely because Oct. 17th is the week of the Red River Rivalry. Given that NU will have been on ESPN the Thursday before, and the fact that TT will probably be a one loss team at the time, I can't see that happening. There is a chance NU could be on game day just not in Lincoln. I could see either NU @ Baylor on Halloween, which would contend with the USC Oregon St rematch in L.A. and Florida @ Georgia. Or the most likely candidate to me @ KU the same week that TU plays @ Baylor, because there aren't many games on besides maybe Florida @ South Carilona or ND @ Pitt that weekend. Unless we go undefeated into that game (and we are playing well) and Penn State and Ohio State both have a loss or two, then we won't get College Gameday. Besides, honestly, it is the most useless and over-hyped thing in all of sports. "Oh God I can't wait to see that shenanigan Corso put a drawn out mascot uniform to please thousands of fans across the nation!" It's useless, redundant, and over-done.
  14. They hate Nebraska except when they are forced to be nice (i.e. CFL lol )
  15. lmfao they pronounce Ndamukong's name en-du-make-in
  16. I think depending on what criteria you are using to grade, this choice is difficult. If you go on actual physical talent, Rozier is the best Nebraska football player of all time. But if you go by accomplishments (and the way he commanded the offense), then Tommie Frazier is the best of all time. I'm interested to know what criteria others use to grade the greatest football player in Nebraska history, and who that choice would be? LINK
  17. Not to say I'm an expert on the way people talk and they way they sound, but when Damon says "Oh yeah, I forgot about that" he didn't sound like it was a grave situation, but rather like 'oh yeah i forgot about that no biggie'. Plus, there are numerous reasons a player may not be on campus atm and we should not rush to think this is a bad thing. It could be, but we don't know. If he was kicked off the team we'd know because every other player that leaves, gets suspended, etc., is reported on and told to the media. My guess is it is either something small or a suspension that really isn't a big deal. He also might be ill. tl;dr If it was bad like getting cut from the team or a suspension, we would know.
  18. Pre-season hype is your answer. As far as returning starters go and last years performance, they are the second best defense in the Big 12 this pre-season.
  19. As soon as they start beating the teams they should beat (consistently) and beat teams in big games (for example, beating either VaTech or Oklahoma this year) will put them in the conversation. They also need to beat teams well, and not struggle through a season against teams at the bottom of the conference or against weak non-conference games like they did against San Jose State last year. Honestly, if Nebraska goes through the season and beats VaTech and makes it to the Oklahoma game unbeaten, there will be some discussion of them going to the NC game. Oklahoma is our biggest hurdle this year. But for a consistent year in and year out Nebraska NC discussion, refer to the first paragraph.
  20. Spot on with the Thenarse analysis. The guy is very talented in run coverage and in special teams, but he is a very poor defensive back when it comes to pass coverage. Constantly got burnt on long pass plays, looked lost and confused, and he also never took his hard hitter mantra to heart. I really want to see the kid do well given his rough childhood growing up.
  21. 1. Missouri lost almost all their play-makers on offense and both their coordinators. 2. The Huskers handled Kansas last year, expect more of the same-even in Lawrence. 3. The game with Colorado was close last year thanks to a bone-head fake field goal call. Overall, the read/assessment was fair and I think that given the Huskers recent history, especially considering with the previous coaching staff, that many sportswriters want to believe in Nebraska again. The Huskers just need to win a "big" game to show the rest of the nation that we're in fact back. And, a win on the road against Va Tech or at home against Oklahoma would fit the bill nicely. I sure hope you're right. I think we can all agree that we are in better shape than them, but anything can happen in college football, as we've all seen, especially on the road. To add to what jen said: 1) The last three times we went down to Columbia we got beat handily, but I'm convinced that in those three games Missouri out-talented us overall, and were much better coached. Pinkel and his team choked last year, and this year we have better talent across the board. 2) With both of our lines returning most of the starters and Kansas losing theirs, expect us to dominate the trenches again. A final TD score made the final score look close for Kansas last year, when it really was not after the second half got under way. The game should have ended in a 45-28 win for us. Reesing and the Kansas stadium won't be enough for Zac Lee to not win, a guy who will have already traveled to VaTech and Missouri earlier in the year. 3) Colorado is the underachievement of the Big 12. Always a lot of talent, never any production. This is Hawkin's year to produce or get out imho. I'm not convinced enough by their backfield and offensive/defensive lines to be worried. And, again, with tough road games against VaTech, Missouri, and Kansas already under the Huskers belt by this time, Boulder will not be as bad.
  22. Greatest play call? There are just too many. But greatest play by play announcing is easy for me... "And an option to the right, Tommie on the keep turns the corner 25 30, eludes a tackler, 35, Tommie Fraizer 37 38 39 40, 45, 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, he's gonna go! Holy Cow, Touchdown Tommie Frazier!" Gives me goosebumps all the time.
