  1. probably should wait and see how things go before you start slinging names and making predictions, there are many questions still yet to be anwered in my opinion.
  2. This year i actually got to see more games, they broadcast more this year in the big Hoosier for some reason, seemed to me like it was some of both. JD seemed kinda lost and rattled on a regualar occasion, and it seemed like in the later it got in the game the recievers were being kinda lazy on their routes. Anyhow, if the trainers say that Heiran isnt ready, then he probably isnt and shouldnt play, for his own health #1 and #2howeffective will he be if hes not physically ready, and possibly mentally from his injuries? might be some fear of reinjuring himself if he thinks hes not healed, might play scared and be alot less productive.
  3. This kinda brings up a question ive always had. Darren Deitrick(sp?) why didnt he get more carries when he played? i never understood why, seem like a fairly talented guy from what i saw, maybe had injury problems? some of you hometown guys can probably answer that question, or its just like the above pictured book, QB keeper all the way. never really understood that, especially with Lord, seemed like a strong runner, but didnt make good decisions when running the option.
  4. I admit it, i voted for Phillips, just loved watching that guy when he had the ball, he was absolute garbage off the field though. Also a big fan of Corey Schlesinger(sp?) really though he was kind of an X factor in the option game, he seemed to come up with some impressive runs when given the chance, excellent classic fullback is what im getting at i guess.
  5. You instate guys probably don't realize it, but us out of state guys don't have near as many channels for info. like you do. Chances are that we are hearing the bulk of the negative things coming out and none of the positive like you do, which is why its nice to hear things from instate fans, gives you a better perspective about whats going on, thats one of the main reasons i come here. There just isn't much info. about what's going on with us out of state guys.
  6. I agree with you there FF Pitt was junk this past year, highly over rated, and NU didnt look very impressive against them.
  7. I like that he is positive, but still sounds kinda inflexable, does he really have enough time to "refine" very much in a college football players career? I really dont know how complicated his offense is, but it seems like all the players had some touble adjusting. I'm also getting the imprssion that he kinda expected to lose, by the way he answered all those other questions, but maybe it's just me. Well anyway sounds like he's trying to foucus on the weak points of the team anyhow, thats good to hear.
  8. I'm gonna disagree with most of you on the effectiveness of the option as ran by TO and FS. The option can still be effective with the proper personel, even in the power I formation, or wishbone variations, proven by Navy this year against equally talented teams. The 94' and 95' teams kinda prove that too, they played against very fast and very agressive defenses and won, as a matter of fact throttled an extemely athletic UF defense that they wouldnt have a chance against if i remeber right, because the had equivialant talent. The talent level in college football has remained the same for the most part, its just that you cant seem to draw it to an option based offense as easily anymore, so its not very popular as the main atttack. The WCO has the same basic scheme as the option, short consistant gains with losts of different "choices", WCO lots of short routes, Option has three runners and possible pass, not much different on basic philosophy, just how they plan to get those short consistant yards, it just requires different athletes than NU had in stock, which is why BC should have adjusted his offense until he got his type of personel, he seems to be kinda inflexable which is what im not happy with so far, which is why you should be so happy Irish. Hopefully with some consistant recruiting and adjustment on offense BC can make the change sucessful, but like Irish i'm hoping we're not seeing the second coming of the Bob Davie, Tyrone Willingham era at NU instead of ND.
  9. Buffs, seems like you guys can handle yourselves from what i read, i would expect the same would happen to someone like that if they came on here, none the less the guys dont seem to bright, because they are pilgrams in an unholy land on your board.
  10. This offensive style should work here, has other places, its just gonna take some time and some definate "tweaking" before it becomes effect, seems kinda complicated for kids that have school as their main priority. I agree the option is still effective, football is just athletes on athletes, execution is the key when talent levels are similar, just seems that the athletes in the key positons wern't there anymore for whatever reason, although i believe that the option can hide talent problems better than a "WCO" style of attack. The change in offense and differences between the players and the new coaching staff had a major part in last years sub-par year IMO. If the previous staff remained with no changes i think last years record would have been better, but because of the reasons listed above mainly im still not sold on BC by any meanes, but he is gonna be here for a short while at least, so im gonna try to be positive, in hopes that things will improve, which that is noticeable positive steps forward in the program, if not i think we should continue the search for the correct man.
  11. My neighbors to the east have a bigger fan base then anything here in Indiana, and the is Ohio State. I think Ohio State football is bigger than Indiana basketball, i always see those little flags on cars going through when they have a game to the west of here. I dont know if its as big as Nebraskas support, cause there are very few of us here, and i dont make it to Nebraska very often, but the Buckeyes are big in Ohio for sure.
  12. If properly coached a lesser or equal team can beat a better one, and so far Solich seems to be a better coach, because he seemed to do better with the talent level that is here than BC, and you cant really credit or condem either of them with the bulk of recruiting, they have staff that does that for them, blame them for having poor staff and not adressing it or for having good staff. I also cant understand why everyone still wants to hack Solich down, hes gone, hopefully to have a sucessful career somewhere else too, and yes he was sucessful at NU, look at his W-L %, just not sucessful enough to please many people.
  13. I really dont know if you can doubt Cosgroves ability, he must have somthing or he wouldnt be where he is, i think the real problem will be whether he can fit himself into this program, and the same goes for BC, no matter if your a good coach or not, if you cant adjust to where your at your not gonna make it. Major changes in systems, your gonna have problems, but you cant keep forcing it when it doesnt work, i think after a 70-10 blow-out you need to adjust to fit your personel better personally. Its good that they are getting good recruits, but they are gonna be freshman, and dont expect a few to come in and make a difference in a year. I live in Indiana, and everyone watches Notre Dame here, fan or not its on every channel, or used to be.........and they made some bad coaching changes, not that the coaches were bad, but just not right for the program, they are still suffering even with good recruiting classes. This year will be a good measure to see if the current staff can do much, if both sides of the ball still suffer, there may be a major problem ready to start. Hopefully these coaches can get somthing rolling, because if they dont here in a couple more years at most, i would say that NU has made the same fatal error the ND made, i hope not, but time will be the only way to answer these questions. Strange that Rudd was complaining about BC too, wonder what his excuse was? not lack of PT, maybe hes just as frustrated as everyone else, probably like the other players that are leaving early or have already left, im sure it has been hard for players and coaches to adjust.
  14. wow.......i said i hoped i was wrong what else do ya want, if they make money doing it with the help of the alumni that would be great.
  15. May have jumped to conclusions, hopefully there is nothing too important, and done as promotional things.
  16. Those things may seem minor to you, but what about the players that earned them, and what they have meant to the NU program. Seems like they desereve just a little spot to still shine since they were major parts of the sucess that the program has had, lets just sell the NC trophys while were at it ehh.
  17. Hes about a dud, is that stuff you just sell, maybe thats why ive got a poor attitude about the coaching changes and things that are going on in the program. If you need to generate revenue, find a better way then selling pieces of school history.
  18. Is any game in college football really a "gimme" anymore? yea a few weak teams, but upsets do happen. Games in the big 12 will all be tough, the confrence has either evened out or some teams have just gotten weaker. As far as Pitt goes NU's win over them last season was none too impressive for me to count out a loss. Time will tell how things are going in the BC camp, hopefully for the best, but im not convinced enough yet to go with a 7-0 start, im actually hopeful for an above .500 season, some kinda progress.
  19. Tommie Frazier was a winner, no one can argue that, playing in the pros or not. NU hasnt had someone like that since Crouch left, they just win, and that is a major problem with the program. You just cant find guys like that everyday though, and who cares what they are doing in the pros, not that i dont wish the alum sucess, but mobile or drop back type im worried about what they can do when they are part of this program mainly. NU doesnt need a certain kind of QB they just need a leader and a winner like Tommie Frazier was. Just for the record i think that NU would do better with a mobile type/option type/ run oriented QB because thats what they have been doing since Noah built the arc and its what they are known for, IMO they have a better chance for recruiting those types of players to fit that type of system.
  20. I agree that BC should be given time, hes here and more changes will cause more termoil and uncertainty. IMO FS should have been given at least one more year after improving from his previous record, even if there were doubts about his recruiting ability. Fact is he knew he had problems in his 02 season and adressed the problems, maybe he could have solved more problems and doubts in another year or two. To the comment about what kind of coach/program NU should have i would have rather kept one that the coach had been a part of for over a decade and understood the traditions involved with it, i really dont like what the players leaving are saying about not being like family anymore and i dont like him cutting down on the walk-on program. NU has had alot of productive players as walk-ons and you know they are totally commited to program, unlike some highly sought after recruits. I think that with the departure of FS the program may have lost the feeling that all of us like, or should have liked and that was that commited Huskers were always part of the program, and im not sure that is something that an A.D. that has been there a short time can come in and make a call on. For better or worse we've got BC, as frustrated as i may get with him its not gonna stop me from sticking with the Huskers.
  21. Speed is a major issue with the defense, but i think the bigger issue is the lack of offense. Past teams have always had a ball control offense to help them stay off the field and stay well rested, which is huge with defense, makes them look so much better. IMO scheme and talent are kinda secondary when youve gotta play so much and when you have sucess your offense turns the ball over or goes three and out on a regular basis. I think a good example of that was the colts and pats game, pats defense looked awsome, and they are very good, but they played half as much as the colts defense. I'm not saying you dont need good players to have a good defense, im just saying that even the best of defenses can look suspect when forced to play the majority of the game.
  22. Hoyamann i think you missed the point, the talent wasnt as deep as it used to be, also i really dont think it matters who is there right now whether it be Solich, Callahan, or whoever there was gonna be some down time. The "overachievers"from last year played better as a team, not any more or less talented then this years team as a whole. I am just hopeful that BC can make next years team "overachievers" until everything gets rolling for NU again.
  23. Say what you want about Polini hating Pederson, but he wouldnt have tried to get the job if he didnt like the program, and didnt want to stay part of it. He may be bitter, but bitter enough to thrash on the players/program he was with? I don't know him personally, but most coaches just don't do that to players they like, and he must have liked them, because he wanted to stay. As far as the kid goes everyone on here sure will be watching for him next year won't they, and know exactly who he is.
  24. Thank you junior for finally saying it, things were getting thin at key positions when TO left. I get tired of hearing that Solich was the cause of whats going on, lets look at his overall record and then come back and say that, and if he was so stacked when TO left and did so well, why are the Huskers doing so bad under BC its not like they didnt go 9-3 last year, but Solich left it bare..........lets get real here. There has always gotta be a fall guy when things get rough, programs go through ups and downs, look at the run NU has had going, it had to taper off some, really didnt matter who was coaching. If anyone thinks that it wouldnt have been back up under Solich they should really think about that, the program is the major draw not the coach. The progem isnt gonna build any faster under BC, changes are gonna slow the process even more.
  25. Everyone has to know that Polini has to hate what has happened to the program he was once part of, maybe he has somewhat of a right to a little critisism, if he really even said anything that damaging. Sounds to me like there is an 18 year old kid who is tryin to make a name for himself more than anything.
