  1. If you don't care about stats that other teams put up, why are you basing your aguments on "top half defenses"? Those are mostly built on stats against other teams. 2 of the 3 we played a majority of the game with a gimpy quarterback that was forced into doing things that he doesn't do well at. In the Texas game the scheme and playcalling certainly wasn't the issue, it was the execution. I would also argue the same in the A&M game, Watson's play had Reed in position for a TD, but an awful throw by Martinez ended up as an interception. Even in the OU game, it was poor decision making by Taylor that cost us the game. I put the A&M and OU losses on the coach that wanted Martinez in the game, and that wasn't our OC. I am basing it on top half defenes because I thought that was a fair starting point to use. Dont you? I get what your saying about the plays "being there", I have coached for 10 years and with the exception of the QB sneak, spike and kneel, I have NEVER seen an offensive play that was drawn up that was not "there" or was not designed to score a TD. They all are, the thing is, you have to know what to call, when to call and how to play to your players strongest points. That goes for defense too, you probably wont see Bo having a DE cover a WR.
  2. I appreciate the stats you laid out but I dont care about what other teams did or didnt do against the same team. I care about what NU did vs those teams. Watson has shown, time and time again that vs top half defenses, he basically poops his pants. This year we saw it again UT AM OU How many TOTAL points did he offense score in those 3 games? Was it 6, 6, 20? So, yeah, 32 points, so less then 11 points per game. The defense in those games let up, 20, 9, 23 (I think), so 52 points or about 17.5 points per game. Now, you can say what you want but I think that a good team should be able to let up 17-20 points per game and still win.
  3. I thought OU's defense was in the mid 60's, I could be wrong. I guess I would say this, How many times has the defense held opposing teams under their average point and yardage totals since Bo has been here? Then I would say, how many times has Watsons offense been held under its point and yardage average when they play what is considered to be an average defense. I would say even a top half defense, in the nation, so what is that, about 1-64? My thinking is that Bo's defense has done much better in this area then has Watsons offense. Even in the championship games the last two years. What did UT and OU average per game, about 35 points? Bo held them way under those totals.
  4. I guess my question, for the fans that want Watson around, would be this. What has he done to make you want him around? I am not a Watson hater but I do think he is average at best, especially when he plays a defense with a pulse.
  5. Well, UNL might be closed to the general student/public but probably not to the coaching staff and profs, if they need something done. I don't know that for a fact but its just a guess. I mean, my school is closed right now but if I did need to go there and get something done, even if it was the admission of a new students, I could go an do it. The NCAA part on the other hand, sure that could take longer.
  6. Not to sound like a jerk but getting papers in order (such as crazy transcripts from weird schools and classes taken on the interweb) are what the NCAA and really all colleges as well have a hard time with. Not ACT scores.
  7. Transcripts will not be an issue unless he changed schools a few times or went to a charter school, which as far as I know he did not. I mean, unless there is something super weird. I dont mean to sound like a know it all but I am just talking from experiences with kids coming into K-12 schools. The only issues are lots of transfers and weird charter schools.
  8. Decent defenses just eat the guy up, they always have. It is just a terrible combo. Bo eats up good offenses and Watson gets eaten up by good defenses. It is no way to win big games.
  9. I'm not defending him, I think there are definite reasons to want a change. However, if you are going to have an opinion get an informed one. Too many good coaches have lost their jobs because a fan that doesn't know sh#t but has money ran their mouth about wanting a change when a good candidate wasn't readily available. Frank Solich comes to mind... I actually didnt mean you(I think its just that my post came right after yours) I meant anyone defending him. I do have an informed opinion though, just like you, with lots of stats to back up what Wats does when he plays a team that has a defense in the top 75. I also agree with you on Frank
  10. If you want to defend Watson and read about how great he is just go to HI. The Mega-V's there defend him all day.
  11. I think we saw w/ Tevin that recruiting is primarily about location for many of these stars. That's been proven time and again. You wouldn't buy a house if it wasn't in the perfect neighborhood (though some of us have made that mistake in the past). There's a lot that goes into it no doubt, but ultimately your decision will be based on what sets each of those "homes" you enjoy apart from the others. In this case it's coaching, academics, and location that diferentiate the final groupings. I think we are saying the same thing. Location is the built in part of the house search. You are not going to look for a new house in a sh**ty area to start with. In this case it came down to NU and Arkansas. He felt "at home" or it "felt right" for him at Arkansas, for whatever reason it was.
  12. I think people forget that recruiting is more like buying a house. You can look and look and look, then one day you walk into one and it just feels right. If recruting was all about stats or location then coaches wouldnt even do visits, there would be no need to.
  13. Well yeah probably but I think you also have to look at it from their point of view. These guys are usually not "fans" of the school they are coaching at. I dont mean that in a bad way but in the end for them it is a job and a way that they make a living. In JP's case he knows he will never be DC at NU so long as Carl is here, at UT, assuming that Muschamp becomes the HC soon he could then possibly slide into the DC roll there. Maybe he wont be seen as a true DC since Muschamp will still be doing a lot of it, just like Bo does here but the title is always important as is the raise.
  14. I was at UNL in the 90's for all the championships. Its easy to be classy when the game is over at halftime. I am not a jerk of a fan and I am not going to clap for the other team either. I am just loud and LOVE drinking at the games.
  15. Its weird to me because guys that want to protect Watson love to use stats. Then when the stats show that he is really good against bad teams and really bad against good times then they fight those states. Stats for many BCS teams (good ones) are inflated on offense because the first 4 games of the year they are usually playing against teams that so simply very over matched. Those 4 games of great stats stick with a team for a long time. Look, here are the stats again. From the OWH An examination of those instances shows futility at the most crucial moments of the 2010 season: Nineteen total drives began with Nebraska trailing or tied after halftime. (Six against Oklahoma, four against Texas A&M, five against Iowa State, four against Texas). Ten drives ended with a punt, including seven 3-and-outs. Five ended in a turnover: one interception, one fumble, three failures to convert on fourth down. Three ended with a field goal. The only touchdown came in overtime at Iowa State, when Nebraska took possession at the 25-yard line. Startling numbers. But take a breath, because the information gets more complicated before it clears up. The 19 drives consist of 112 plays, about 1½ games worth of work. In those 112 plays, there were 38 in which Rex Burkhead carried or received the ball. Those plays gained 233 yards, 6.1 per play. There were 74 plays in which Burkhead didn't carry or receive. Those plays gained 176 yards, 2.4 per play. Here's another way to look at it: The 38 Burkhead touches produced 13 first downs and the touchdown at Iowa State. The 74 other touches produced nine first downs. That's what Burkhead does under pressure. What about Taylor Martinez? In the sampling of 19 drives in which NU trailed or was tied after halftime, Martinez was on the field for 12. Keep in mind that 10 of those 12 occurred against Texas A&M and OU. Martinez's 12 drives produced seven punts, two giveaways, two turnovers on downs and one field goal. Three points. And on the field-goal drive against Texas A&M, guess who rushed the ball seven of the 11 plays? Burkhead. What about Martinez's arm? What happens when the freshman drops back to pass in pressure situations? The data show 32 plays gaining 68 total yards. That's 10 incompletions, six sacks, one interception and only three completions of more than 8 yards. How many of those 32 plays picked up a first down? Three. So when Martinez dropped to pass, Nebraska's chances of moving the chains were less than 10 percent. Yes, the sample size here is small. Yes, there are different ways to define a pressure situation. Statistics never tell the entire story. But the point is this: Saturday night, during the biggest drives of the year, Nebraska coaches hitched their wagon to a freshman quarterback who has struggled in pressure situations. A quarterback they'd already benched twice this fall. A quarterback who couldn't run his bread-and-butter play the zone read because of two gimpy wheels. A quarterback who'd already made critical mental mistakes in the first three quarters against Oklahoma. They could've ridden Rex Burkhead to Nebraska's first conference title in 11 years. Instead, Watson asked Taylor Martinez to mount a rally from the pocket. The most telling moment of all came on the ultimate play fourth-and-4 at the NU 47, 1:07 left. Brandon Kinnie lined up wide right and ran a 3-yard slant. Even if Martinez had connected, Kinnie likely would've come up short of a first down.
  16. Zoogies The reason that coaches have QB's roll out to pass is because it is easier for them. You cut the field in half or a third, you get way more protection, you have back side gimmack plays to use and you can run/pass. I am not sure how much you watch high school football, but the roll out pass is used all the time because it simplifies things.
  17. Fades can be thrown by anyone, you just throw it up and let your WR try and make a play. I think we are both agreeing that outside of the 70 yard TD run, Caliwats had another bad day.
  18. The offense had that 70 yard TD run to go up 7-0 and then the second TD came with good field position, didnt it? I dont remember where that drive started, was that the one where NU returned the pick down to the 15 or so? QB draws would have been a great call because the O-line is not pass blocking but run blocking, they are going forward. Its the same thing as the wildcat, which for the most part, was working very well. Fades can always be thrown, assuming there is not a two-deep safety look and OU had lots of guys around the LOS. Caliwats does two things well, he does a good job in the first quarter and he does a good job getting out-adjusted the rest of the game.
  19. Ummm, they were up 17-0 right? The defense got them that huge lead, everything was fine. Then Caliwats became all caliwatsy, like usual. What didnt we see, we didnt see QB draws, we didnt see easy fade routes where T-mart isnt forced to hold the ball and then try to creat a play but end up with a pick in the endzone, we still never saw a screen pass against a super fast attacking defense that was teeing off on a dropback passes. Its always the same. The other team can make adjustments on defense but caliwats cant make adjustments on offense.
  20. Mega virgin. However, I don't really know what that is either. Seems people 'round these parts call members on other message boards mega virgins for some reason. I thought it meant that if you haven't posted 1000+ times that you had no credibility and your opinion is worthless. If you post three times a day for the next year, you will become more reliable. Can we just give this post of the year right now!!! This is funny!!
  21. This is a very good call! I forgot about the classic glasses bit, add in the ponytail with the glasses and you have the classic 80's nerd girl look. Then, glasses off, hair down and BAM! Lets not forget the cheerleader in Heros! I also keep thinking about the movie Just One Of The Guys.
  22. Cause most of the "inside" info is terrible and the guy is a dick and a Mega-V.
  23. This is a very good call! I forgot about the classic glasses bit, add in the ponytail with the glasses and you have the classic 80's nerd girl look. Then, glasses off, hair down and BAM!
  24. Was it Teen Wolf or Wolverine that could heal fast? I always forget. You know whats more unbelievable then T-Mart being 100%, Teen Wolf (Scott Howard) passing up that hot blonde to be with Boof at the end of the movie. I just realized something, if I am the only Teen Wolf fan on here then this post is going to come off as pretty creepy.
  25. does that put to bed all the wild rumors and speculation? Or Do you think there will still be some Mega-V's over on certain boards that still make stuff up. I noticed one of the Mega-V's has been banned from the other board where lots of people feel he has super insider knowledge. So, if T-Mart starts, does this all end finally?
