  1. I have made that exact same coment many times. Normally get screamed at for not being a Nebraska fan. Health and spending time with his family. Yea a Congressman is home all the time. The ironic thing about his leaving, that year we fell off the recruiting map with any top level interest. Michigan ties us and gets something near 65% interested on Rivals, that would be 65 listed interest. Nebraska had 2. Something was going on, I have said it for years.
  2. Being in SoCal I hear alot about UCLA. Last year everyone wanted the head coach and staff fired. His offense sucked, his recruiting would never match up with SC. They were going to be losers forever. Coach was an idiot for changing the offense. This year they walk on water. UCLA went through the same changes we are going through. I doubt there is a UCLA fan out ther today wanting their coach fired. Winning and time cure all problems. Not enough time down to know if BC and staff are good or not.
  3. I have said this before and caught hell, but I think TO knew the problems headed the programs way. Unfortunately I think he felt Frank was better liked than what turned out to be reality. Most of the older coaches did not feel Frank should have been head coach and there was problems. Byrne did not want Frank either, but Tom played the power card and it happened. I doubt it would be done the same if the chance was given again. Tom did not like the kids leaving early, he never stopped it but felt they had an obligation to the program and him. He saw that changing, not only here but at other programs. Loyalty was a major concern. I mean nothing negative in my coments, just that hind sight is much better. A lot of mistakes were made no question.
  4. I think the main problem this year is the Oline. Very weak at the left tackle position. It is going to take awhile to correct this problem it appears. Very seldom do freshman step into that position and become playmakers. Again this is not the problem of this staff. It has been an ongoing problem for quite awhile. Some think Fonoti was great, but he was too slow against a top athletic DT. I hear he has balooed to over 400 pounds at GreenBay. We need athletes on the line. The top programs have athletic players. It appears Murtha may work into that but he is way over his head now. Talent accross the board is the problem, but this staff is working on that. Unfortunately we need to win at least two of the remaining games to get a really good class I think. We have to show improvement this year or the recruiting will start to fail. JMO.
  5. I would guess if you looked at the times Taylor has ran and compared them to Joes you would see more positive yardage on Taylor's side.
  6. They won ten games agains who. One team that may have been good, but only later in the season. Explain the losses Former. Who were they and what were the scores? 10 means squat and I do not count Mechicken state a power. Like I said I do not know if this staff is the answer. But firing them with in the next 3 years will destroy this program forever.
  7. I think Urban is doing a good job. I would take him if he had taken the job. But I would not fire BC to get him now. I like the firey attitude he has. He is our coach and I will support him until he isn't, just like I did with Frank. BC is moving the program forward. That is all that can be asked. I have no complaints with him at all. I could care less about his antics. He gets the kids into the game.
  8. Do not get me wrong on this. I support this staff and team with a lot of money every year. My comments are not to be taken as a negative. I will be honest and say that I was not happy about BC being selected. I am still not jumping for joy about it. But I do think he is going to do a good job. He has made recruiting the priority and that has been needed for a long time. We need to get a better record going but that will come with time. I am happy to see the attitude turn around. That indicates the kids are buying in. When that happens things get better quickly. All you have to do is look at UCLA. Their fans were wanting to fire their coach all of last year. Some were amazed he made it another year. Their QB was booed and hated last year, now most think they are the greatest turn around in College football this year. But if I had to pick a coach to run the program it would be Pat Hill at Fresno State. He is firey, smart and will play anyone anytime. He would have been an excellent hire. I doubt he would have taken the job if offered though as Fresno State is his dream job. I truly think he is one of the best in college football. He gets the kids to play for him and makes them much better than they are suppose to be. The only other one that I think could do the job, was Urban Meyers. But he stated he would not go to Nebraska under any circumstance. One other that I thought about was Lane Kiffen at USC. But overall I think we got the best we could under the circumstances. I have no regrets about BC. I just think he needs the time some are not wanting to give.
  9. One thing that is going on is recruiting in high school. People actually move to play for a certain coach. Things have changed at that level too. I think we have a great coach. I think we have inferrior talent to what we once had. But we also play in a much tougher conference than in the past. The big boys that recruit and do it every year are the ones that are winning the NC's period. The only exception was Ohio State the year they won. But they always have good recruiting classes. Steve Spurrier is a coach to look at. He had great talent at Florida and was always in the hunt. He does not have the talent at SC and it is showing. If it was just coaching they should win pretty much every game in the SEC. I think he is the best coach overall in that conference. It takes both. We had neither until BC got here. I do not know if BC is the greatest coach or will ever be considered a good Nebraska coach. I know he is working with his hands tied behind his back with talent. But the talent is moving up and I think his ability will show the closer he gets to what he wants. It just takes time.
  10. Would one of you genius predictors please tell me now what games we are always suppose to win. I keep reading games we should always win. Where is that written. How do you find these gimme games. With your standards, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Alabama should never ever lose a game. You play the games, there are no games anyone should always win. That crap is in the past. Hell TO lost many games he should have won, how do you explain that. Talent, with out it you lose. We are an average team with average talent at this time. We were at the bottom of the barrel. Quit living in the past, There is no god given right for Nebraska to win. We have to play the games, develop talent and work to win any game. Pairity is here. If you look at this terrible weak conference you will see that only two teams out of the whole conference have losing records. That is pretty damned good. Look at thing how they are not how you want them to be. Work to change them, but be willing to understand that it takes time. We do not have a player that would start in any position at Texas, USC, VaTech, Miami, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia and a host more. Our 2nd and third teams would not make the team at most of the top 15. When you finally understand that then you will see progress.
  11. My personal opinon on the firing of this staff, would be the end of Nebraska football. There are very few draws to Nebraska. Tradition to young kids is just window dressing, they truly could care less if we won a million games. What are you doing for me today. Show me the money and how quickly will I be on Sports Center We have a Super Bowl coach, that is the only thing getting top kids to even consider Nebraska. A new offense that they can identify with. BC must stay and he must suceed, if not and he is fired within the next year or two, as stated no one would take the job. If you remember no one wanted the job in the first place. Too much preasure, a dificult area to recruit to, weather, no nite life, and tractors. Kinda pales to other more exciting places. Forget the option and move on. This staff is doing a great job with what they have to work with. It will take more time and top recruiting to get us anywhere near the top ten. I have been saying that for two years. Some on here get their panties in a wad talking about CCG, BCS and MNC. It is not going to happen for at least a couple more years. We were so far down we needed a phone to reach the top. Steps are moving us in the right direction, changing the course now will end this storied program.
  12. Same Crap, diffeent day. NO FRIGGEN TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every recruiting guru has said it. Most of our old coaches have said it Top players from the past have said it. But internet GEEKS no more than all of these people!!! Yea right!!! This staff had no QB or Oline when they got here. That means no QB or Oline to run the friggen option either. They inhereited a team with no heart, no morals and no desire to win against top teams. See the 3 losses to quality talent, I could care less about the 10 or 9 wins how ever you count. You can not correct in one class what was done for the previous seven. Reality is we are at least another 2 years from being remotely competitive with top programs. But Pairity may have a word in that too. Support the team, that is all you have to do! The only losers are the ones that do not see what has happened and what is happening.
  13. I think this staff is doing a tremendous job with what they have. No real National level talent. For years we have heard the recruiting gurus tell us that we do not have the talent to compete with top 15 schools. Not big enough, strong enough quick enough or athletic enough. This started about 7 years ago. Prior we were given credit for better recruiting because TO knew how to use what he had. The prior staff left us with no QB or Oline. And I mean no QB or Oline to run either offense against quality teams. See Texas, Colorado, Missouri and Kansas State. We must learn to admit just how far down the ladder we were and still are. 1 good recruting class does not make up for 7 years. Last year on another board I posted that Texas Tech felt they had more talent than Nebraska, most told me that was the craziest thing they had ever heard. We saw the results. But we see ourselves getting closer. There are no teams we are suppose to beat. Those days are gone with the demise of the little 6 and big 2. When the big 12 came about the money channel opened for a lot of programs. My guess there is more money for at least 4 programs in the south than Nebraska has. Understand where we were and how far we have come in a very short period. I have said since day one we are at least 3 years from being competitive with the top 10. I still feel we are at least 2 years out on the recruiting side. The first year did not count. Most top programs do not depend on Freshman and Jucos to correct a major talent problem. That is what we are doing. It is stop gap for a average season. Not being able to compete with teams with more talent. We have faced several this year. Pitt, Wake Forest, Missouri, Iowa State and Oklahoma. We face Kansas who is about equal and KState the same. Colorado will be another story. The right steps are being taken. We have a firey Irishman at the helm and he is making some mistakes but he is making some good moves also. This was a long long long process and most refuse to understand that. Give it time. We fire this staff and Nebraska as the team we once knew will never ever reappear. We have a chance with that now, but never to the tune of 3 in 4. Those days are over forever. Enjoy it and forget it. Pairity is here. Deal with it.
  14. Sorry misread the title. I thought it said Nebraska.
  15. I think we have 3 straight losses coming. We have no chance of being in the CCG and no reason to even think we deserve to be. Texas would put 100 on this team. Be careful of what you wish for.
  16. Cody has proven to be a very nice surprise. But I doubt the staff felt he could consitently over come the shortcomings of the Oline.
  17. If I am correct it would be a medical redshirt and they can not apply for it until after the year ends. I think that is the intention if it is what Matt wants. I have coached, trained world class Motocross racers. World class mountain bikers. I have dealt with many fractures of the leg. Not terrible hard to come back from a broken lower leg. Femur becomes a different deal. Depends on pins or traction and time in the cast on a femur. Matt had a compound fracture of the tibia and fibia. He also broke and dislocated his wrist. But compound fractures are not only very painful but mentally scarring. It takes much longer for the athlete to mentally recover, if ever from seeing the bone sticking out of his body. I posted early in the year that the chances of him seeing the field this year were minimum. I think that he is on the travel squad even though injured. That indicates the staff still have hopes for him, or are trying to overcome the mental problem. In honesty dealing with this injury is much more mental than physical.
  18. I would like to see the young kids in there to. But BC is fighting for a job that some are already saying he has lost. It is now a question of doing the absolute best no matter who plays. He has to win this year. He has to finish with at least 7-8 wins. If not there will be recruiting problems and way more fan problems. Sad that so many are so convinced he is not a good coach. I think they have done a great job so far this year. We do not have the talent, have not had the talent to contain an athletic QB for years. Missouri/Texas are the two most athletic QB's in the Big 12. We have not had an Oline since 2000. It takes time to get what is needed. There has not been enough time yet. Another two years and we will see the results of this investment. Our talent level was so low when this staff took over is was sad. But one large recruiting class does not correct 5 years of average classes. Give it time.
  19. I do not know where this number 1 class came from. The highest I ever heard was 3. The recruiting class was good no question. But it did not compare to a lot of others in quality. The main reason we were so high was becasue of numbers. Anyone can run the ball. Not a great learning curve in that. My concern is we do not have a QB back up that has played a down. If Zac gets hurt it appears to me the season and any chance of a bowl game is over. Not good. If Leon was the player most think he is, he would be playing running back and starting. The coaches know the true abilities. We do not have AP or RB setting on the bench no matter how hard some want to believe that. We have good to above average freshman, not world beaters. Not saying they will not turn into that, but now they are more of a liablity than anything else. As I stated earlier, top programs do not depend on Freshman and Jucos to turn the program around. We have to. But only so much can be done. I do not think it has anything to do with the play book. That has been blown out of the water so many times it is a joke. Listen to what the team says and the coaches and you would understand they have a large play book, but only use certain plays for each game, not the whole book. I doubt anyone on the team knows the whole play book at this time.
  20. I have not been to a Colorado game for about 12 years I would guess, but we have our share. I think we have a site called Redout or something close. What a bunch of aholes. I can imagine they treat the opposing fans just lovely. It happens every where. I have attended games at FSU, Miami, Rose Bowl with Miami, Holiday Bowl with Arizona, Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennesse, Texas, Tech, Georgia, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, UTEP, San Diego State, Fresno, California, USC, UCLA, Washington, WSU, Arizona State, Iowa, Iowa State, Ohio State, Harvard, Army, Air Force and a few others. You normally get what you ask for. Being a fan of college football will get you through most trouble situations. Just being a fan of Nebraska or any other program will normally cause tempers to flair. All in all the worst I have ever seen are at LSU at nite. But most are so drunk it really does not matter. I attended the Holiday Bowl to support Kansas State a few years back and one of their fans wanted to know why I was there? (In Nebraska gear). I said I support all big 12 teams in their bowl games. And would be cheering for KSU, just as I have for Texas and Texas Tech. I am sure their are exceptions to every rule, but I have never had a bad time.
  21. I attended the Missouri/Troy game. Me and a friend of mine wore our Nebraska stuff to the game. I never heard one rude coment, not one problem all day long. Attended a couple of their tailgate parties. I was not impressed by their support for their team. Very quiet. Some times we are to thin skinned about the other teams fans. Do you take the time to know your opponent. Do you appreciate their good plays? Do you acknowledge them when they make a good play. Are you friendly towards them as you enter the stadium? Do you take the time to get to know the people setting around you? This is college football, it is not war. Some fans take that mentality on both sides. I have attended a lot of football games all over this country. I have never ever had a run in with another fan. I have never been cursed at or spit at. If you win act like you have been there before, if you lose accept their celebration, we would do the same. Calling for a war with Missouri is childish. Grow up and act like you attended this great university.
  22. Sorry, just do not see the game breaker abiity in Lucky. I would guess his longest run is a little over 10 yards. I am all for recruiting, but sometimes they do not pan out. I do not think he is a bust by any means. I just do not see the AP or RB abilities in him at this time. It seems many other programs are playing top freshman and doing good things with them. If this offense is too difficult for him to learn so be it. But I truly believe if BC thought he had the second coming of RB on the team he would be playing no matter the cost. JMHO
  23. I am sorry I just do not buy into the Lucky hype. I just do not see anything that reminds me of Bush. Not even close. He may end up being a good back, but not the real game breaker we need. I hope I am wrong. I live in the LA area and honestly I never heard much about him until we offered and the All Star game. If I remember correctly he had one descent play in that game. Hardly any rushes at all. He played in a very small conference that does not get much pub that is true. He really sprang on the recruiting front due to a Nike camp I think. My feelings are if he was anywhere near being as good as Bush he would be playing alot. I really do not think he is as good as Cory and may never be. Again I hope I am wrong on this one more than any of you.
  24. We are not competitive at this time. You can throw in at least another 21 teams that have superior overall talent very easily. But the idea is we are making improvements. We are taking the steps to get to where we want to be. If the old Nebraska had fallen 21 or 24 points behind anyone we would never have come back. I am not down on the team. I just realize after watching Missouri and Texas play this weekend, just truly how far we are down. When we come to accept this it will be easier to understand what is happening and how the staff is correcting it. Living in denial is not the answer. We have no offensive line, other than Mann. That is not this staffs fault. We do not have a seasoned QB or even a descent back up. Again not this staff's fault. Most of our CB and Safetys are too small. You are going to see more and more of the 6'4" to 7" wide receivers. No matter how much we do not want to believe it, college is going more pro attack. They have taken stop gap measures, but in reality there is a reason kids end up in Juco's. Some may not have belonged there, but overall it is not the fix we need. I am not talking about Zac here. During the 2003 season numerous media types continually stated even when our D looked good, that we were way down on talent and Peilini was doing it with mirrors. Pelini even made the same coments. We do not have the speed or athletic ability to compete on a levl field. I am very concerned about the conditioning of the OL. I think they are to big and to slow to compete with the top teams. Most look like they are nailed to the ground Saturday. I think the staff is doing the absolute best with what they have to work with. It is just going to take more time than some are willing to give I am afraid.
