  1. I think we will see a much better defense this year. As some have mentioned the defense should be better due to better offensive production. But I think this year we will be closer to a team. Most on the defensive side did not like Bohl, and fell in love with Pelini. His departure ripped this team apart and he did not help the situation after leaving. His affects should not be noticed this year, and with the new talent coming in we should be pretty good. Depth is the main concern for sure. Hopefully they will be in full swing by conference play. It could get a little scary in the Pitt and WF game but I think the mind set is there this year to be a fighter till the last second on the clock clicks off. That is what I want to see. If we a lose a couple of games so be it. But give me the real black shirts back and I will be happy to allow Coz more time to perfect the system.
  2. Ill bet that Washington is off the team and out of the NFL within 3 years. Deon he aint and he can not take tough times. I honestly wish him no luck for what he did to this team. Quitters never win and winners never quit. Draw your own conclussions on how I feel about him. Maybe Pelini can use him as a grad assistant down the road.
  3. We had a flock of quitters on the team last year. Two of the worst are gone. We had no pass rush so zone would not work very well. We had slow LB's and one very good LB. Our top DE was injured early in the season. Yes Joe did throw interceptions at an alarming rate there is no question. But quitters never win and winners never quit. When the top two players on defense decide to throw in the towel, which they did, you end up with a defense like we had last year. Another flaw in recuriting by the prior staff, character flaws did not help last year either. Good ridance and I think we will see a markedly improved defense this year. It will be amazing to see how smart Coz will be when he has players that want to play for him, have speed and size and loyalty, dedication and are true Huskers.
  4. Returning 10 starters on offense and 9 on defense is not an inexperienced team. This team played a much tougher schedule than Nebraska last year and played every single ranked team close till the end or lost in overtime, except Miami. I would guess if we faced FSU, VaTech and some of the others our record would not have been 5-6. They have an All American Punter and what they expect to be an All American kicker. There will be no fear of Nebraska. They feel they have played in tougher stadiums and faired better than we did last year. Our good fortune is that their strenght is their running and I think our d will shut that down. If Taylor and crew are a team by the second game we will be okay. Anyone who thinks this team is a joke, go back and look at last years stats against top teams and you will find out just how weak this team is. They are well coached and will be one hell of a battle. If we were playing them in their house I would really be worried. This is a team that never ever quits. We better hope no one is looking past this game to Pitt because if that is the case it is a sure loss. 27-24 in the last minutes of the 4th quarter.
  5. It is too bad we don't have a coach for fans. Then maybe would not have former fans.
  6. I would tell him nothing, other than he has my support 100% and thank you for your efforts in returning Nebraska to the top.
  7. You do not have to be old or young to understand college football. This a major game of sales. Good sales, highend buyers you do well, poor sales, low investment buyers you end up where we are. If you do not sell the program and all of its attributes you fail. Too many other places for the average/above average/top player to go. Other programs that will recruit what we want and some of what we do not even look at. That hurt this program. I fit into the category of old, not 1920's old but close enough. You have to sell what the customers want and are buying. We are now and I am all for it. I could care less if there is ever another option play ran at Nebraska, I do not care if they paint the field purple and pink. I do not care if they put a dome on it. All I care about is that the program is clean and kids come to play their best. And that we are out actually selling our program from day break to sundown every single day. That includes the staff and every single fan that calls himself/herself a Husker. If you are no promoting this program you are not a true fan. I do not know, nor does anyone else know for a fact we have the right coach, but one single year is not enought to know one way or another. I do not judge a coaches success on winning National Titles. Those are more luck than anything else the way the system is now. Play hard and be in every game and I will be happy to continue to invest my hard earned money into this program as I have for the last 25 years.
  8. The fact that they have replaced it is the important thing as Rawhide says. This will help keep some injuries down and lord knows we do not need any this year. Sorry for getting on the high horse/ soap box. I just want us to move forward and look at the positives, we have enough to bring up the negatives all the time and some that just look for those. I personally see nothing wrong with the appearance. I have seen cut fields that looked similar. My guess there will be a Nebraska helmet in the center of the field. With red and white endzones and a new color to some of the seats. It will look great when they are done and I would guess a lot like the Utah stadium. Their's is a pretty new stadium and if we can get this grand old lady to look as good I am all for it.
  9. That would be correct Pill. I own a business in Beaumont, Califonria. But I have been to Beaumont, Texas a long time ago. We had a motocross race close by if I remember correctly.
  10. Well being near 60 I would be considered an old timer I guess. Most likely in better shape than half on the board though!!! lol. The game is all that is important. I would go watch Nebraska play in a tent. I do not care what the field looks like, or honestly what color it is. Traditions is a bunch of crap. They don't play with leather helmets, they do not smoke, we finally know what a forward pass looks like, you don't drive the Model A to the games and you watch it on a big screen. Traditions are just a way of explaining not moving ahead. Play friggen ball and forget the trivial crap.
  11. There was a car accident here in Beaumont and 9 were killed, followed by a major fire that destroyed 85 homes, the water from the fire department drowned three little kids while playing in the water, as the mothers ran to help, they were all hit by a semi, the semi driver lost control and plowed into a chuch and exploded, all 312 were killed, the steeple on the church fell into power lines shutting off electricity to the hospital ans all the life support victims died, one of the victims children, lost it and killed all the nurses on the floor. Friggen Pud has to be the blame for this too. Note: this is a made up story, but it makes just as much sense.
  12. Well practice has made perfect for you FF. You normally get everything wrong and you practice it all the time. Congrats.
  13. Again it goes back to the players wanting to play cover 2. That would be both of the Bullocks and Washington. You can read this in one of my posts prior to the Colorado game on BHF.com. Coz would not agree to it due to the fact that Super D which basically was our pass rush the year before was gone. No one to preasure the QB left cover 2 out of the equation. But the players still wanted to play cover 2 to raise their draft status. The staff was doing what should have been done. If you do not have the personel you do what you have the personel to do. They never agreed and it showed. My feelings are they are gone and now to be forgotten. Get over it. Move on. If the defense fails again this year then we have something to complain about. Until then I am not going to worry about it.
  14. Congdon will be the kicker with out a doubt. Kid was making 50+ kicks during his senior year. He gets them up enough to clear the line. That is the problem we need to overcome. He can do it.
  15. The loss of Ruud will be felt, the other two were not playing for most of the year so I do not feel their departures will be anything but an improvement. I look for a team this year. We had a bunch of quitter cry babies last year that were suppose to guide this team. They did not get things their way so we saw the results. Things will be different this year, trust me.
  16. I will be very surprised if Bullocks is a captain. Ross no question in my mind. He and Ruud were the only players we had last year that truly were Huskers. Leave everything you have on the field. Man I can not wait to see this new group on the field. I think there will be some major improvements and Coz will not look as bad as some thought he did last year.
  17. Sounds good. I am going back for my 40 year class reunion. I will get to see the Wake Forest and Pitt game. My son just took a job at the University of Missouri running their MRI/CT lab. He has got tickets for the Nebraska game. Will be going back for that one to. Other than that will most likely be around. I do hit some of SC and UCLA games if interesting. Thinking of buying San Diego State season tickets this year. Almost all their home games are at nite. No decession yet. Went to see a few of their games last year and had a good time. Easy to get in and out of compared to the Rose Bowl or SC. May have extra ones as the wife normally gets called in on the weekends at her hospital.
  18. Hey Rawhide, Just rode around Diamond Valley lake this afternoon. Not a bad ride, pretty flat, but windy.
  19. Having grown up there, I know a little about it. As stated after dams were put in place up river the river changed direction in two locations. I do not remember the name of the area to north but there is a Nebraska part on the Iowa side, just like Carter Lake is on the Nebraska side. Iowa would not trade the people (taxes) for birds and fish, so they just remainded as they were. It is Iowa from the center of the lake and a small strip that crosses Abbot Drive. When I was there many years ago, we attended Thomas Jefferson in Council Bluffs. If you missed the bus you had to walk across the Missouri on the train bridge. It was not something you wanted to do more than once.
  20. Welcome Nameless!!!!!!! All the rest has been said.....
  21. I was at Misty's about 5 years ago and they had some of the best ribs I have ever had. The place was packed and the band and cheerleaders showed up prior to a Baylor game if I remember correctly. Not much into pizza so can not make a recommendation.
  22. You are talking about a snake that would eat its own children. This man is no friend of Nebraska and never has been. It was always about Bo. The best thing Pederson did was show him the door, the one he nearly broke going out. He has caused this program problems since his departure. He is pretty much hated at OU. Thank god he is gone before his temper brought major embarassment to this program.
  23. FF, Frank basically shut down recruiting from the time fall practice started. Kids were allowed to come but were not recruited actively during that period. He felt game preperations were the most important parts of his job and let the others slip. Some times we can not see the forest for the trees. He worked his but off but did not have the quality onboard to accomplish what needed to be done. His failing to make recruiting a priority was a major complaint of the big boosters, so they quickly got Pederson's ear. Recruiting has always been Pederson number one priority, it was his job at Nebraska to begin with. Business men believe in stocking the shelves with quality items, most felt we did not have the talent we had in he past and it truly became evident in the Colorado game. Once people understood our weakness they planned for it. We had no option(no pun intended) to go to. From some comments I have heard Frank would have had more time if he would have went whole hog into recruiting. He just never liked the job. The year after the firings was no different, not a full class and very few top kids had been contacted. With the losses to major powers being so embarassing, Pederson felt recruiting would not recover under Frank no matter what he did. That according to some very high end boosters is the reason Frank is gone. Take if or what it is worth.
  24. FF, As you know I am a big Frank fan, but I can not say he was a good head coach. Being a head coach is more than just winning and losing. It is developing the program, ensuring it is moving forward. Frank failed in recruiting and had since the day he took over. I followed recruiting form the day he took over. Lack of difference makers, short classes, failing to use the system to recruit is where he failed in my mind. If you look at it closely you will see that a 7-7 season should have been a 5-6 season. We should not have been in Shreveport. Our 9-3 season looks good, but 3 losses are what hurt. But the main thing that got Frank fired was his decession not to follow the instructions of his boss. Direct disobedience does not go over well anywhere. He misjudged his boss. Saying 90% of the other programs would have been happy with his results is misleading. If that is true, we do not want to be in the that group. The top 10% is where the winners of MNC's reside. That is where we wanted to be. Your idea of 90 out of 100 would want him seems flawed as he ended up at a team that is ranked 110th and it was truly his only sniff at a job. Others that have considerably more knowledge about football than any of us felt he was not qualified to run a major program or he would have been hired. Key would be Tyrone Washington being fired by ND and in two days being at Washington. Florida brings up another situation, South Carolina and on and on. If Frank was truly as qualified as some think he would have been offered those jogs, and not had to settle for Ohio University one year later.

I am very glad we have SC next year. They will be a little down and we should be starting to get things together. But as FF says we really do not know if we will be ready to play them. I think the staff makes a lot of progress this year. I just do not know how they could be worse than what they replaced. In 2006 we will have one of the toughest schedules in the country if not the toughest. We need those cream puffs to survive the physical beating our kids will take next year. We certainly do not need to add another top 15 program for the next two years. Getting through Texas, A&M, USC and possibly Oklahoma or Texas Tech in 2006 will be enough for anyone, not to mention KState most likely being back. Western Illinois and Maine were schedule replacements. I doubt we will see them again.
