  1. game is finally here and no more silly comparisons to whatever. may it be a clean game won decisively, can't say what will happen. NU has lost 14 of 15 to ranked opponents and hasn't been good in road games for years but all that is not relevant to these two young teams. Best team should win. Will pt out that lee didn't play well in only competitive game and has not had to mount a comeback money drive whereas Gabbart has and been a beast in 3rd and 4th quarters. Now who plays better in their first divional rivalry game will determine, most likely, the outcome. Hope the weather holds off more for the fans than the players, they will line up and play irregardless. Don't fret dudes, what will be will be.
  2. as a recruiter I can tell you tht most masters are a waste of time and effort. if it really matters to a company they will pay for it and allow time. Most don't, especially in the fields many athletes major in. Just a lot of windowdressing but yoiu have to admire Petrino, bobby is the biggest BS artist in the biz. And that is saying something, but the kids are buying it.
  3. gabbart didn't chose his competition and has been the most effecient of all big12 qb's against the preseason teams, IL was rated very highly but hasn't done much in fact. He has shown flashes of grtness and made bad decisions that led to sacks, wow what a shock for a newbie. He has ll the tools including being accurate off his back foot and is a force when he runs. to be fair then you have to say lee has fattened up against eh weak sisters he played, looked notsogood against vt made poor decisions, especially in the red zone. Short arms the ball, accurate on the mid and short routes, average runner. what does all this mean? after thursday night you will know who shines against better competition. you won't really know till after season against the tougher b12 D's.
  4. knapp difference is that MU has been the class of the north last two yrs, beat the No 1 team in the land and was No 1 themselves, I know two whole weeks and played for the chance to be in NC game. That is being relevant. as for making predictions or gambling I don't do either. I have an idea how the game could play out but much will be determined by how each staff approaches game, who dominates lineplay, weather, so everthing one thinks could go right out the window. Have to take my dad to atlanta for a wedding have to leave thursday afternoon, so I will miss all the fun live, will dvr for dissection later of course but the game will play out and we all will have more answers about our teams. Will be fun. Next week several outstanding big 12 games including yours against TT and MU's at OKS, of course red river rivalry shootout will be very interesting. Love college football and the b12! Looks like Bo and Carl learned their lesson from last yrs shooting off their mouth about mystery d. it's better when both teams respect the other and let the game stand on it's own. Part of maturing as a HC, good to see. Now if only big mouth Lane K would learn some humility.
  5. someone on this bd posted monday that asante was limping in practice. after he went down so hard without it being apparant what happened to him just was curious, also what was it?
  6. Bo is probably waiting till they do something grt against a very good offense like you see in the Big 12. I actually think more of him for waiting as he knows this game is the one where Huskers find out who they are. preseason games don't mean much and in the one game they really needed to win, they pi** down their legs when they had the opportunity to make a real statement. NU did much better than I and many thought they would so kudo's for that but they still didn't finish the job. Bo knows this is a key game, lose and they descend back down to the middle of the pack in conference and fall off all the national talking hds minds. Win on the road against the best of the North last two yrs, (whether you chose to recognize that reality or not) rebuilding yr or not, it will bring them up closer to MU and gives him something to build on. Bo and his staff need something to sell these kids who don't remember NU for the grt program it used to be and it was, heck they barely remember what happened two yrs ago. IF the D does an outstanding job against a very good Offense and they havn't seen one yet, then it could be time to do something. May the best team win handily, not some kicked ball or silly bounce of the ball decide the game and no injuries! Have a grt time in Columbia!
  7. how is Asante doing? first part of week he was limping noticably in practice and lmted.
  8. have my sympathies, I too will miss seeing the game live. nephew getting married in ATL and my sister informed me, driving her van with our father, we are leaving thursday afternoon. doubtful that I will be able to find something in SEC country, tho I like fro daddy's idea of trying to pick up espn local station. will dvr it and like someone else said, the high profile games can make one nervous. Course tiger fans were nervous going into lincoln last yr, with the vaunted Mystery Defense and the return of the blackshirts going to shut MU down but that worked out ok. Oh well, such is life.
  9. FWIW I won't get overexcited about tigers till they beat not nu or ku they have done that but when they play a competitive game or beat TX! They beat mu as badly as tigers destroyed huskers last yr and you know how that felt.
  10. Bo needs to beat Mu because he doesn't have a big victory yet against anyone of consequence. All the games you guys keep mentioning are morale victories but still losses. Contrary to many or your confidence in Bo, what has he done? You can't really measure a hc before at least 3 yrs preferrably 5 in college football because of recruiting. You can see what he does with the kids he was left with and so far he has done a ok job, got hammered by teams like MU and OU. several of you keep mentioning that NU has much better talent like it is a given, besides suh, helu and asante who are these ubertalented kids as they have done ok against preseason softies and almost did something at vt but not quite. overall mu has upgraded the athleticism and especially the speed of this team, not to be better than NU but to be competitive with TX and OU, they have handled nu quite nicely as you may have noticed last several yrs. BTW MU has beaten OKS on the road last 4 times. IMO it will be a entertaining game that will reveal much for both sides. Enjoy it and see where you truly are, not where you think you are. I don't know who will win, if I was a betting guy, would have my money on MU at home. Bo needs this game and NU needs this game much more, they are further down than the most of the faithful like to believe but a few realistic fans know how far down they are. Last year he was flapping his gums and his brother was trumpeting about a mystery D that would nullify the highflying Tigers, course it failed miserably, so his coaching is suspect untill he proves otherwise. Lets hope the weather is clear and there arn't any injured players, may the best team win!
  11. did you watch the cu/wvu game last night? they don't do anything particularly well. as for MU's running game? It is not as good as in yrs past without question. Just not getting open holes and Washington, one of top backs in conference lst yr, isn't running well at all. Can it be fixed? No idea, not crazy about the scheme myself. Backup Rb is freshmen from TX who is like devine, small and a blazer who has had good success, had two td's called back off long runs by penalties, has had a habit of tripping over yd markers, I kid you not! If he can keep his feet he would be a grt compliment to the bigger washington. as of right now I don't think they will have much success running against huskers line.
  12. remember all the excitement about hawkins after his second or 3rd yr, so much that they extended his contract to 2013? It takes time to evaluate your HC, why all this talk about Bo is puzzling, as he hasn't won anything yet nor beat anyone of consequence, with your best game an morale victory against a good not grt team? Give him time, he could be good or he could be bad. He wasn't a top candidate when he was hired, not like he was a proven name head coach with a track record. hiring assitants sometimes works, sometimes not so much. By end of yr you will know a lot about him. Is this D what you perceive it to by, or what other observers think? Can he recruit, that is the alpha and omega of college coaching, didn't have a good summer, time remains to upgrade. Opinions vary right now outside of the faithful.
  13. With Cu having it's best chance at a conference or division win on the road at manhattan and ISU which they could lose bothand be ofer in conference play, makes me think back to this summers postings on this and other husker boards where they wer discounting MU as a opponent and were all worried about CU? I retorted that CU was terrible and Hawkins not a big 12 worthy coach. So much for perceptions based on long ago glory. You have to see what your team is allabout today. Wonder how old Phil Steele is doing these days after predicting a NU win and KSU and CU ahead of both KU and MU? How is that working for you phil? Or all the husker posters who place a big weight on his prognostications?
  14. thats what bo should be doing, don't want to reinforce a negative, look at how the cubs have to deal with constant talk of 100 years of failure. which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. better than last years "mystery defense" that carl and bo and the local press trumpeted about as did all the posters on this and other huskers bds. How did that one work out? that mystery d got huskers destroyed and didn't work at all. this approach is more professional. just wait and play the game. first ***** in the armor.
  15. pressure is obviously on Bo and the huskers, since they havn't been relevant or done anything to get the attention of recruits for 3 years, which is the time when these 18 yr olds were paying attention. As recruiting is going not well this yr for huskers if they lose at all and especially if they get blown out, this would be disasterous. Remember huskers were consensus choice by the lazy media who didn't do their homework, all 3 top teams had major questions. If they are embarassed for that choice, they won't take another risk and will have a tendency to be negative about NU for some time. as for saying beating mu isn't a big deal, that's funny. MU played in the CCG last two yrs and were at Number 1 in 07, top ten in 08 and were in discussions on the natioinal stage, where NU has not been for some time. Despite your bravado, this is a huge game for perception purposes and NU has the most to lose. Beautiful thing is, none of what anyone says heres matters anymore, game is less than a wk away. You have to beat someone of substance before you are truly relevant. NU has beaten no one in recent memory. To be fair? MU hasn't either, beating a then number 1 overated KU end of 07, just a rivalry game, they wern't top 10 worthy truth be known. BTW just saw a replay on that Holt TD reception on a replay. Why wasn't that a catch, he got both feet inbounds! I know the technicality of the rule and I think it is stupid. To me that was a catch and would obviously have changed the whole VT game, you got hosed. I actually do root for big12 teams outside of games that are hd to hd w mu.
  16. Agree NU needs this game badly as it is high profile and the only game on NT, grt showcase one way or other. MU has been operating under radar, national press has said it is a rebuilding year and not expecting much, if they stumble it will meet perceptions. BUT if NU loses, all the talking hds who have been saying they were easily the best team in north should win easily, grt D, blah, blah will look rather foolish and they don't like that and could turn very negative on huskers. NU has a very hard schedule, tho the faithful havn't talked about it much, going into KU, CU Baylor and a couple of tough south teams? That could be really difficult, especially if you lose nxt thursday. MU strengths are more than capable of exploiting NU's banged up and thin secondary, plus your lbers have so little experience and MU is the master of the underneath routes and is very talented. Won't have much success running the ball, probably, so should come out firing. It will be a rough game for both.
  17. blackshirt man you are doing a grt job of looking more foolish with each posting. Losing to a TERRIBLE OFFENSIVELY CHALLENGED CU team with a desperation, school record FG at HOME, a team MU SHUT OUT when they played them and you try to compare that to losing in a last second blown coverage, something that should be fresh in your memory, to your biggest rivalry game at arrowhead against a damn good Offensive team and you desperately are trying to compare the two? Really? How is that koolaid that is so good it has allowed you to take leave of your senses. Or the fact that your touted bowl win was against the team that was voted the most dissapointing supposedly top preseason team in the land, who couldn't score pts against your mothers bake club. Yeah, that was impressive. MU beat the team it played. Course your little comparison wouldn't have looked as good if you went one game further, would it? OR you could take a look at how you did hd to hd, mano v mano, in your temple of blind worship. But then again that would deflate your argument now wouldn't it? Try keeping it real and relevant. Now once again, Who played in the CCG? It is pathetic losers who hang on to things like co whatever, kinda like getting that trophy in little league for participating. I'll keep it simple for you. That wasn't you. MU lost big in CCG, Nu would have lost bigger. Until someone steps up and wins the CCG, it is all hot air. Again all this SOS nonsense is silly. Dudes teams are about to play hd to hd. You think NU better, Tigers fans think MU will win, shocking as that may seem. May the better team win.
  18. One huge question, how can any of us gain real traction when we are fighting for the leftovers in TX after TX, OU, TT, A&M, AR and LSU have had their pick? That is what we are doing now.
  19. blackshirt you shouldn't make yourself look so bad as to say MU wasn't as good as NU by end of yr, uh they played each other at your temple and destroyed you. as to that silly tied for north, uh MU played in the championship game, beat you handily hds up. beauty of playing each other but so many of you persist in repeating the gospel according to Bo that you beat up on some bad teams and somehow you were better. Uh then what happened when you played a terrible cu team and they almost put another loss on you, at your temple. The same Cu team that MU had just humiliated and shut out in their home field. So just stop with that nonsense about how grt you were after playing a couple of easy games. You got beat, badly, humiliatingly in your house. And if you have not noticed they will play again, so all this pissing match talk is rather silly. Best team will win the game and you won't hear me making some stupid excuse about anything if tigers lose, or saying wow you should have seen us at the end of the season, only thing that matters is hd to hd, period. As for who NU is chasing, all this talk about getting to FL or USC or whoever is rather sad. Untill someone from the north beats the big bad teams from the south, it is just flapping your gums. And who that is has not been determined but to not look foolish wait till you beat someone, anyone who is really good, morale victories don't count. Your vaunted advantages don't matter very much right now, have you looked at who you have recruited so far? Not much and oh BTW, tyler plays just a few miles from my house and is having a rough senior year and hasn't looked that good. Right now we are all, top 3 in N, struggling for our programs identity and are in flux. Who will win out, opinions vary. Only time will tell. I admire all three programs and hope they all flourish (except next thursday and at Arrowhead) and make the south teams our bit**es. You are known for how good your rivals are.
  20. main pt that was relevant is the Ill skill players are better than anything NU has or MU, some rate them best in country, has actually, they are an incredibly talented bunch, Benn is preseason AA (got hurt on first play) and fayson FL transfer player with a NC ring and 5 star talent, several 4 & 5 star receivers and rb's in mix. course with a dud at qb who couldn't get them the ball didn't matter much now did it? Zook is a joke of a HC. Again non of the games played truly matter, in less than one week let's get ready to rumbleeeeeeeeeee! may the best team win!
  21. i don't think mu will have much success running the ball, should come out throwing like they did last yr, that is what will open up running game. Helu should have success against MU, Lee, we shall see, big game on the road, he was not very good in vt game with similar circumstances but not a rivalry game so pressure amped up. We will know wich qb does better soon and it's about time! Tired of all these my daddy can whup your daddy, time to get it on! If MU comes out firing against the weak secondary and lbers of NU they will have grt success and could run away with game, then start running the ball. If they stubbornly try to run it first, distinct possibility, game will be closer and NU has better chance. Game should be entertaining and what college football is all about.
  22. I guess you guys didn't notice I said on the plays I saw, Lee is who we thought he was and didn't come close to completing a downfield pass, nor did the wr's get any seperation or make a play simple. in LA game it was a quarter or so before asante injury and a few after that. parts of the vt game. watched a lot of several teams to get a feel for them. one that stands out for execution and downright fun to watch is Houston. JMO. as for who is younger, blah, blah blah on both sides. heck they both play a lot of young guys ok. let it go, geesh, pt established. After the preseason schedule no one has stood out. huskers played best team of 3 but lost it in puzzling fashion. KU has the weakest D but best established O. One thing stands out about all 3, and I know this will set you off but here goes, all 3 Olines are average at best, with KU's not very good at all. I know both you and MU thought we would have much better line play but hasn't happened as of yet, there is a lot of youth there so that could improve going into conference play, or it could be worse playing better athletes. SOS, ok they both played a lot of average teams, degree of which doesn't mattr and NU executed better but then one wonders if playing from behind and having your qb have incredible 3rd and 4th quarters is relevant as opposed to having it easy? you decide. as for better athletes and who can do what and when, you say tomatoe we say potato will know nxt thursday. there is another interesting pt, NU has had much acclaim, mostly about it's D, while MU has hd little and reduced expectations. What happens IF NU loses a close game or worse gets hammered? There is the potential with the rough road and south scedule coming right ahead of them to really have a rough go. MU? if they lose a close one, will attribute it to young qb, bounce back and do what most observers thought they would do. So who has the most pressure?
  23. some valid pts in all this hot air, some are comical, like Lee has a big arm? Huh? Havn't seen him throw a decent deep ball in all the snaps I have seen, he isn't much of a runner or scrambler either. when running has been unimpressive with decisions. His strength is standing in the pocket and throwing good passes short and medium depths where he has a nice touch. TE's are your best at catching the ball, wr's have been inconsistant. Oline about average, very susceptable to speed rushers off the edge, decent run blocking. Helu is bigtime but can he stand up to being the workhorse in conference play? If he does he will have some bigtime stats, very good in open field. MU has better skilled players but as someone mentioned, how do they execute and no they don't have grt runners in the open field like a maclin but DA is damn good, just won't run away from you as Jmac could. Will be a good game and will stop all this talk, results will be what matters.
  24. just looked at rankings and they have KU, MU and NU all ahead of OU, OSU and USC. Now who can honestly say you could play any of those 3 teams and win. I don't think MU could. Especially since none of them have beaten OU for quite a while.
  25. #6? Even you guys don't think they are that high do you? Why worry about this silliness anyway, was MU the #1 team in the country two yrs ago, no they wern't and OU showed that in a short time. Only time this means anything is when your ready to play for the big prize. Right now whether most polls place you at #24 or #25 or if MU is 20 something or thirysomething, doesn't mean squat. They are about to get to play games that mean something. What difference does a #6 ranking mean if you lose your next game? Nothing. in a month you will know where you stand and wha the pecking order is in big 12. then it will mean something.
