  1. riverrunner is correct this is all about TV sets and money and tradition is not a viable currency. the fans who think that NU can compete against the big 10 powers while retaining their recruiting base in Tx are not being realistic. Number 1 why would anyone want aschool that doesn't bring a ton of tv views? That has been the driver in this whole process. especially one with a good football program but a miserable BB program? FB was great many years ago and in this day and age anything past two years ago is ancient history so it doesn't mean much. Besides you think OSU, MI and PSU would want Nebraska if they thought they would come in and beat them? Don't think so. Is why Pac 10 took CU, a nothing school with terrible athletics but the Denver TV market. What does Huskers bring to the party? Omaha isn't anything Big 10 cares about. Actually keeping the b12 going is the best outcome for all. You think stoops and brown the top HC's in the conference want to go out and have to hear Lane Kiffin whine about them and proclaim their superiority constantly? Not hardly. Or compete against USC who will get past sanctions and be a dominate power again. NU is best served in the 12 and if rumors are correct Fox sports is dangling a big new tv deal to the 12. THAT would make it worthwhile to stay and be able to compete financially and the logistics would make more sense. Would give huskers football the needed resources to take the next step back.
  2. been to LA quite a few times and you guys trying to rationalize why they had no trouble getting a great class together are missing the pt, should be why don't they have one every year. Have you been to westwood? the area is incredible and strolling around there compared to lincoln or any midwestern college town, there is no comparison. was just at USC's campus to visit dinlaw who is graduating from Med school there and in august before classes started, was stunned by a few beauties who strolled by. also saw pete conducting practice, cool. places like that FL, TX or Miami are going to win the recruiting wars when they have a topend coach, period. just the way life is.
  3. placing too much emphasis on one game played in a monsoon isn't wise. MU handled NU for 3 quarters and a rookie hurt qb cost them momentum and smarter playcalling would have helped. If we want to play that game we can go back to Lincoln in 08 but then that would destroy your fun. Worst thing in that game IMO was the many drive killing penalties called by a just bad officiating crew on the Olinemen, some were penalties some not, that truly changed the game for first half. It could have been as ugly as 08 in Lincoln. Next year is next year, we shall see how NU does post Suh and Asante and see if blaine learns anything from last year as far as picking up secondary targets and how all those big, very fast wr's take over the offense and does the poor playcalling improve. That's the thing about college football, personell changes so much every year, takes a while to see what you have. As always it's entertaining.
  4. uh, great offensive lineplay is kinda Football 101 stuff and is essential for success but why can't you upgrade the wr and skill positions as well? after taking one ok wr in 09 and only one average wr in 10, that is kinda crazy when the skill level was very ordinary on the roster. MU took 3 highly rated and big O Tackles this year and last but added a bunch of big highly rated wr's/athletes as well. while bo and staff should be complimented for coming on strong at end of recruiting season after a dismal start last summer and subsequent loss of multiple 4 star offensive players, it is just puzzling why they did so poor on skill positions? concentrating on D is always a good thing but truly missed out on an opportunity to upgrade the problem area of team. Having better wr's would have helped out a average qb like Lee ot whoever starts as well. pellini's had a very good year on defense and should be solid next but would make it so much better to compete if they get more consistancy on O. you know best D is a good O or they can't score if they don't have the ball? after being so bad for most of year, offnese had outstanding bowl game but which part is the true husker O?
  5. congrats on a very solid class! after all the moaning by the faithful all summer they finished very strong. getting cooper is a huge deal as he is outstanding. have seen rome play and don't get his high rating, he wasn't best D linemen on his team and didn't do much and I watched him closely. Same with Ty Gabbart who was a 4 star as well but was rather average. Most articles I saw on carnes said he was an outstanding athlete who would play another position in college, wr or db. Bo's guys went out and recruited a bunch of high level D players and Olinemen but where were the skill players on O they so desperately need? One wr and he is ok and no top flight qb that is needed to put in competition, NU needed at least 4 high level wr's to upgrade position after only one last year and he wasn't much. Rb recruit is rated highly, looks like bo is going back to his roots with a big OLine and going to pound the ball and play ball control. North will be interesting next year between mu and nu. strong d against a talented O. rest won't be much of a factor.
  6. unfortunately there were several "pinkel factor" losses to take away from what was a transitional year. losing to nu when they were winning handily is a classic pulling a pinkel. tigers had throttled the huskers easily and were winning the kicking game, with a baby qb who was suhdified and hobbling should have kept it more conservative and won out. d coaches didn't have tigers prepared at all for tx, not pressing wr's was huge mistake and were outcoached overall. okie state game was very competitive and if kemp catches easy td pass game is different but he didn't. then they were outcoached, again and oks made good adjustments, mu didn't, again and they were put away easily. Baylor was a travesty, winning 27-13 and dominating the game, bu saw what worked with 3rd string qb, throw it short with huge cushion db's gave up, mu didn't adjust, again and got beaten, at home by the dormat of the conference. classic pinkel factor loss to an inferior team. navy game exposed inexperienced coordinators who couldn't make adjustments a JFl coach would have, refused to take what was given on O or put enough numbers on edge to stop option, which iowa did against a superior team running triple option in GT and stopped them for most of game, it just wasn't that hard. MU has a great recruiting class coming and will have a huge edge in skill players over rest of north and it's not even close and best returning QB in conference but with same coordinators who just arn't very good not sure if it will make much difference. fans are desperately defending bad coaching and are happy with mediocrity, pinkel has no clue as to what would make a good d and no d coaches that know either, so that will offset superior talent. If Gabbart starts picking up secondary receivers and stays healthy he will have a monster year, has a fleet of very fast, big recievers for next year already with several good ones in new class as well. won't mean much if they can't stop anybody. bo is a superior schemer and defensive strategist but his recruiting of offensive talent is strangely not good. what's up with that? no qb in class and medicore wr's? too bad his staff couldn't keep original commits and they would have had something. Green will have to produce as Lee is what we thought he was, just a guy. If green can take the job and show some of his very good talent, would make a huge difference for nu. best thing for huskers is pinkel is too loyal to really good guys he has for assitants but they arn't coaches good enough to make a difference, they are just a bunch of guys who can recruit but not coach up the talent they attract. Pinkel's stubborness and ineffectiveness on gameday is only reason Mu won't get past the level they are now. But it's NU's opportunity. Rest of north didn't recruit anyone and won't do much.
  7. Leach is an arrogant azzhole who deserved getting cut. His ego was writing checks his body couldn't cash. Was a constant pain to admin and they finally had enough. Reports on what he did to that kid, and no I don't care who his daddy is, are terrible. He doesn't need to be at a HC position in college, go to the pros or be a OC, which is what he is good at. could you imagine what he could do as the OC at MU or OKS with all the talent they have?
  8. Congrats on your domination of a good AZ team! Way to represent in CCG and bowl game, have to give props to the pellini sisters, sorry couldn't resist, they had their players prepared and ready to play. Where were some of those wrinkles you had in AZ game, which were good adjustments by watson, in the CCG? Could have made a big difference. Oh well. Sorry the tigers couldn't represent as well, coaches just didn't do a professional job of preperation or calling the games, not sure what game they were watching. Nosight bowl was outofsight on NFL channel, saw the ratings number and it was a minus 10, basically only friends and family saw the game, kinda like HS. Will be interesting next year to see how KU comes out with TG as HC. He wasn't much of a HC at buffalo but has put together a very solid coaching staff with two solid, proven Coordinators.
  9. huskerals with you covering CU hs football, what is up with one kid, last I looked, commiting to CU who is from colorado? seems strange to me. does hawkins have that bad a relationship with the CO hs coaching community?
  10. some big mary has a problem with you guys discussing recruiting possibilities on a discussion board. Go figure! What nerve. that's like some guy calling in to a talk show! Especially on a section devoted to recruiting discussions and possibilities! Unbelieveable!
  11. have seen a couple of stories that there is a bigtime investigation of dirty dealings at FL and that is what is driving this leave of absence. mentions of death penalty popping up. have no idea myself, anyone here heard anything or have more specifics? Is this the stress that has made a real hrt condition turn worse?
  12. on Norht recruiting, did you all think it strange that ISU after what was a very good yr for them after several notsogood, has one kid from Iowa in it's class? Or one kid from colorado going to CU? talk about closing the borders, NOT!
  13. as for TG's 4 star rating? he had a lousy senior year but hardly played with anyone who could truly compete. how will he do? have no idea and I live not far from his HS and spoke with many people who saw him play. Is one of big reasons he decommited as NU has few skill players and the offenses play and playcalling down strech was godawful and he wanted to go where the talent is now and that was MU without question. Even the faithful can't argue about that, more talent already there and terrific wr's coming next year with him. Now whether he can win the job in a couple of years especially with franklin, who has been ugraded quite a bit after a terrific sr season and one of the best qb's in midwest already commited for 2011? who knows, that is why they practice and play the games. But he is a good kid from a good family, despite what you all think, decommitting doesn't change who one is if he truly feels a change of heart.
  14. MU did get both sassar and lucas plus IL commit from KC dexter mcdonald who is a terrific athlete slated to play corner. as for ratings and stars? they are a decent indicator of talent but utah, byu, boise state and tcu have done very well against bcs opponents with classes closer to 100 than 1. when you are dealing with 18 yr olds and their potential many things can happen along the way. Only time will tell. I would say that MU addressed a lot of needs and have been upgrading it's athleticism all over the field. Still questions on the defensive side as to the coordinator and coaches, they havn't seemed to be as good as their talent. then you have to talk about whether stability and a family atmosphere is more important than going out and bringing the best coaches you can. If i was a nu fan and I am a part time husker fan since they are in north, would seriously question why bo's guys attracted some top talent and positions of desperate need but failed to hold them. there was a lot of instant pt avialable and that should have been very attractive, yet they went elsewhere. Now adding a few seemingly lesser players and not much quantity, while loading up at positions that seem to be strengths already. If bo had a decent O as you all know, would have won b12 CCG and been playing in bigtime bcs bowl. truly puzzling and would have been grt for north. Proof on these classes will come in a few years, speculating on who did better now is entertaining in the winter months.
