Cody Green should have a real opportunity to get some snaps against South Dakota State.

I live in Everett, Washington and I was telling Husker fans leading up to the week of the game that Husky fans are a great bunch of fans. They didn't disappoint. It was a friendly environment with classy fans.

I concur totally...This was merely intended to be a "side story" to the game. I didn't mean to take anything away from priority one..win the game.

A lot of talk about Jake Locker being a heisman candidate. Will we be the team that kills off his heisman hopes? Sound off huskernation.

Welcome to the board! I'll be attending the game from Everett, Washington and regardless of the outcome, I look forward to shaking hands with Husky fans. No bad blood in this game...that's what I like about it.

I traveled with them in '98 to Lincoln and was the only guy riding the bus from Omaha dressed in Red and White. They treated me very well. There's no bad blood here. Husky fans are okay in my book.

I thought Cody Green played well and he showed improvement. His passes looked pretty good and he even threw a 24 yd TD to Niles Paul. But with the play of Taylor Martinez it begs the question: What will Cody Green do now? Will he continue to compete and try to win the starting job? Could he still win the starting job before this season is over? When Bubba Starling and Jamal Turner arrive on campus will he transfer? Lots of questions surrounding this young man. I like Cody Green and hope he will continue to compete.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade either because he is an exciting player, but the reality is that it was against Western Kentucky. While I hope he does turn out to be even better than the second coming of Eric Crouch, we'll have to see how he does against better defenses.

Absolutely right. We won't know how good this team is until at least Washington.

Just my two cents....Against an 0-12 team from last year the defense looked like it ran out of gas mid to late in the 3rd and gave up an embarrasing run up the middle which almost resulted in a TD for WKU if it weren't for the fumble at the 1-yard line. Then, on P.J Smith's interception he carries the ball like a loaf of bread and coughs it up and gives the ball right back to WKU. The Hilltoppers put together at least two nice drives in the second half and looked like a team that never gave up. On a positive note, Lavonte David showed he can be a playmaker Offensively, while Martinez had a good first outing as a starter, we must remember that this game was against Western Kentucky and one game does not necessarily cement your position as the starter for the whole season. The kid definitely has some wheels and as the year goes on he could prove to be a problem for defenses. Green played better than what we saw last year and showed some significant improvement. I think the "true" starter remains to be seen IMO. Niles is playmaker but every so often he drops a pass which leaves you wondering how the heck he dropped it; especially when it's right on the numbers. I noticed some good play action from Brent Qvale too and Jermarcus Hardrick. The OL looked pretty good. Overall, a good effort but showed it was the first game and there's some things to work on. Go Big Red.
