  1. Well, beating out OSU and Florida for a recruit wouldn't suck. Come on, Mirko, the pipeline is coming back and you can be a part of
  2. If my understanding is correct, his scholarship would've been charged to the football program anyways if he plays both so this can't be it. Yes, he would be a football scholarship and basically a walk-on in baseball. So there's no way Erstad vetoed a free player, no matter what his potential is in baseball. Sounds more like he's just not ready to end the recruiting process. Too bad.
  3. I agree. Certainly makes me feel better about our chances of holding on to him.
  4. Yup, out of a class of 25 (including k Williams), I only see three that aren't coming: Harrison, Wills and Stewart. That's 12%, which isn't a particularly high attrition rate. Maybe I missed someone?
  5. That is an interesting combination of events. Kid is obviously an athlete.
  6. Agreed. No need to slam his character. People like money.
  7. Good luck with your purchase, Ole Miss.
  8. Good news is a small market team like the brewers probably won't be willing to pay fines to pay him higher than his slot. He's also their third pick, so we can hope the first two negotiate for more than their slots, leaving less for Monte. In all likelihood though, he'll have a choice between (roughly) a million dollar signing bonus and going to school. I don't love our odds, though they are better than what most people were predicting.
  9. Anything's possible, but the odds are pretty long. I hope he does come in trying for a spot on the field and pushes the guys ahead of him. Everyone should come in with that attitude and our coaches certainly encourage it.
  10. They have time spent learning our offense and the technique of playing OL, not to mention learning how to deal with the physicality of the position at the college level day after day. It's rare enough for a kid to be physically ready to play OL as a true freshman, and Tanner looks like he could be one of those physical freaks, but being mentally ready as well is a whole nother thing. How many true frosh can you recall starting at OL for NU? Not very many and there's a reason for that. Moore did recently due to injuries and lack of depth, but we don't lack depth at Guard currently. Fonoti did back in the day, but he was a freak of nature. I hope Tanner can force his way on the field as well, but it's extremely unlikely.
  11. Agreed, Buster. I would be shocked if he didn't redshirt. Cotton is a stud at LG, so unless there's an injury problem, tanner would have to beat out Moudy, Price and Kondolo for RG. Not going to happen, no matter how good he is. It takes time to figure out the position and those other guys aren't chopped liver.
  12. Technically, he could come in under a baseball scholarship. The second he stepped on the football field in a game though, he'd count against the 85. Considering the limited scholarships in baseball, this would never happen. He'd come in on a football ship from the start.
  13. I thought we'd end up around 18 prior to adding String and K Williams to the roster. I certainly wouldn't expect to exceed 18 now.
  14. I hope it's a very slight concern, as you're basically concerned about the 2017 season. We need long term planning, but we've already got Stanton and Darlington for that year, along with whoever we get in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Granted, we won't want to rely on a true freshman, but the point is, our future QB situation does not look particularly dire at this point. FWIW though, I'm all for bringing in two athletes at QB this year if we can find the room Edited because I completely forgot Bush. Give him two years to develop and he could easily be a factor in the 2017 QB race.
  15. Dillman is a good enough athlete to play other positions if it comes to that. That's the nice thing about recruiting athletic QBs.
  16. That's huge. Now imagine if Harrison actually sets foot on campus, too. Wow.
  17. So he's still "100% committed" then? As I said, we need to stay in communication with other backs or "athletes" if we want to ensure we get one in this class. Hard to rely on a kid that is clearly still considering his options. On the bright side, keeping his recruitment open and hitting camps will probably move him up to a five star. Just might not be our five star by the end of it.
  18. Yup. Let him make these choices and take responsibility for how they turn out. Damn shame.
  19. Nice personal attack, by the way. Just keep telling yourself there's nothing to see here when he just happens to stop by some top SEC programs in the months to come. As I said, I'd love to have a kid this talented on our team, but kids that have made up their mind don't continue to visit other schools. We're nothing more than the leader in the clubhouse with some big hitters still walking the course.
  20. Maybe, maybe not. Depends how bad these kids want to play for a big time program that they grew up cheering for. I'll never fault a kid for taking the full ride elsewhere, but there's a reason kids turn down scholarships every year to walk-on in Lincoln. Just comes down to what your dream is and how bad you want it.
  21. Sure, we'll "suspend" him for 2014. In case you're serious, no, you can't punish a kid for what he did elsewhere. You can accept him or not and set whatever rules you like, but you can't retroactively enforce rules when he wasn't here.
  22. Not even remotely close to the same thing. The point is that you're either committed or your not. Words have meanings.
  23. If those offers are legit, this kid should have four stars.
  24. If you were engaged, would you let your fiancé continue to go on dates "just in case"? People who are 100% committed don't continue to see other people so they can have a backup plan. Maybe he is 100% since the Arkansas visit. Maybe he's done with recruiting now. All I know is he re-affirmed his commitment almost immediately before visiting another school. That concerns me and I hope it concerns the coaches. I would expect some clarification on what commitment means for both sides.
